4. Quick Settings Revamp: The Quick Settings view, located where the time is, has been revamped for a more user-friendly experience. 5. Enhanced Privacy Controls: Chromebook users can now enjoy enhanced camera and microphone privacy controls. This year, a one-click solution in the Settings menu will allow users to manage these settings across the operating system easily.

The Chinese smartphone maker launched the T2 Pro back on September 22. The device sports a tall 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display that has a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,300 nits of peak brightness, and Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, the Vivo T2 Pro is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC that is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.

The front houses a 16-megapixel selfie camera, while the rear features a 64-megapixel dual camera setup on the rear. A 4,600mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 66W fast charging. The Vivo T2 Pro has finally gone on sale in India. The smartphone is available in two color options, namely New Moon Black and Dune Gold. It has a starting price tag of 23,999 INR for its 8GB + 128GB configuration. On the other hand, the 8GB + 256GB model will sell for 24,999 INR. As a part of its special launch offer, the brand is even offering a 2,000 INR instant discount on ICICI Bank and Axis Bank Credit cards. Three brands are expected to debut new handsets as early as the first week of October. Two of them have officially scheduled events, while one of them is rumored.

1. Vivo V29 Series

The Vivo V29 series is set to go official on October 4 in India. It will be announced in a live stream scheduled for 12 PM IST.

The brand will unveil two devices, namely Vivo V29 and Vivo V29 Pro. Both phones will be equipped with a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus and a ring LED flash (Aura Light) on the rear.

The Pro model will come with an OIS-assisted 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor and a 12MP Sony IMX663 with a 2x telephoto lens for portraits. It will be backed by a 4,600mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging.

2. Google Pixel 8 Series

The Google Pixel 8 series will be officially presented on October 4. It will be made official at an event in New York, which will start at 10 AM ET and will be live-streamed on YouTube.

The lineup will include two models, such as Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The duo will be powered by Tensor G3 chip and will receive software updates for 7 years.

The Pro variant will offer better cameras like a 48MP ultrawide unit and a 48MP 5x periscope zoom unit. It will also sport an LTPO OLED display (1-120HZ refresh rate).

The Pixel 8 is tipped to cost $699, while the Pixel 8 Pro will retail at $999. These prices make them $100 costlier than their predecessors.

3. Samsung Galaxy S23 FE

Samsung is tipped to unveil the Galaxy S23 FE on October 4. This handset will act as the successor of Galaxy S21 FE and the third Galaxy S FE model to date.

The device will be powered by Exynos 2200 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets depending on the markets it will be sold in. Its front will be fitted with a 6.4-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with noticeable bezels all around.

The phone will arrive with a 50MP (wide) + 12MP (3x telephoto) + 8MP (ultrawide) triple camera setup and a 10MP selfie camera. It will draw energy from a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging,

Finally, the product is expected to start from $599 in the US.

Alongside Geekbench, the Tecno Spark 20C was also spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website, which confirmed the marketing name of the device as Tecno Spark 20C (BG7). As per the listing, the smartphone will have Bluetooth v5.0 support. The handset with model number BG7 appeared on Geekbench, running MediaTek’s octa-core Helio P35 SoC.

In addition, the smartphone gets 4GB of RAM and runs Android 13 out of the box likely with HiOS 13 skin on top. Tecno Spark 20C managed to get 168 points in Geekbench’s single-core test and 928 points in the multi-core test. Other specifications of the Tecno smartphone are still anyone’s guess. The handset should launch soon as it has already bagged multiple certifications.

Tecno has also been rumored to be working on Tecno Spark 20. As per a leak, the Tecno Spark 20 will be announced in October or November in India and the global market. 3nm chip demand to fall in 2024, Apple to cut orders: analyst

Chipsets based on the 3nm process node have just started to hit the market, with Apple A17 Pro being the first. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests the demand for this emerging technology might not be very strong next year, pushing major players to hold back. Apple will apparently cut orders for the 3nm chips next year, forcing chipmaker ASML to reduce EUV equipment shipment for by about 20-30%.

The semiconductor sector might bottom out in 2H23

According to Kuo, demand for Apple’s 3nm chips will be lower than expected next year. The analyst attributes this to a significant decline in MacBook and iPad shipments in 2023, which fell by approximately 30% and 22%, respectively, to 17 million and 48 million units.

“The sharp decline is attributed to the end of work-from-home (WFH) demand and diminishing user appeal for the new specifications (Apple Silicon and Mini-LED). Looking ahead to 2024, Apple’s 3nm demand is negatively impacted by the lack of growth drivers for MacBook and iPad,” he writes in his blog on Medium.

This might result in ASML, a Netherlands-based semiconductor company, lowering EUV equipment shipment for 2024 by about 20-30%, suggests Kuo. In addition, the TF International Securities analyst says Qualcomm’s 3nm demand for 2024 would also be lower than expected due to Huawei’s decision to stop sourcing Qualcomm chips and the higher-than-expected penetration rate of Exynos 2400 in Samsung smartphones.

For those unaware, Huawei has recently achieved significant progress in chip development by equipping its flagship Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro with its own 7nm Kirin 9000S 5G processor. The Chinese company had previously depended on Qualcomm’s 4G flagship processors.

In addition, Samsung, which had been using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips in all the Galaxy S23 models this year, is planning to significantly reduce its orders. The Korean company appears to be reintroducing Exynos chips to its S series, starting with the Exynos 2400.

Although Xiaomi downplayed the news, describing it as merely “a continuation,” there’s more to it than meets the eye.

The deal struck between the two companies centers around Padget Electronics assembling Xiaomi smartphones in its facility located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Atul B Lall, Dixon’s vice-chairman, hailed the partnership as a “major milestone” for the project aimed at bolstering domestic manufacturing.

So why is Xiaomi so modest about the new deal? The reason lies in Xiaomi’s already substantial Indian operations. Padget Electronics is but one of five contract manufacturers the company has in the country. The alliance, then, isn’t a game-changer but rather a calculated move to reinforce its standing in what is the world’s second-largest smartphone market. Xiaomi currently holds about 15% of India’s smartphone market, trailing behind Samsung and Vivo.

In a recent radio interview, Carsten Senz, a Huawei executive in Germany, pointed out that Huawei’s technology has been employed without any security issues in Germany for years. The company further cautioned that the ban would escalate costs for both telecom operators and consumers in Germany.

While Huawei’s argument centers around economic consequences, the EU has been nudging its members to be cautious. In 2020, the EU recommended restricting or banning Huawei’s involvement in 5G rollouts. However, only a third of EU nations have followed suit so far.

The telecom industry in Europe finds itself caught between two giants: China and the U.S. What’s more, Huawei has been deeply intertwined with Europe’s 5G development since its early stages. As of 2019, almost 60% of Huawei’s global 5G contracts were with European operators.

In the early stages of the Apple vs. Epic case, things seemed to be going quite well for the gaming company. In fact, in 2021, Epic Games had won the case, effectively opening the door for payment methods outside of the Apple Store. However, despite these developments, The company appeals overshadowed Epic Games’ victory.

The High Court’s decision rejected the request to loosen Apple’s App Store rules. However, the battle isn’t over, as Epic Games has asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling in the antitrust case against Apple. In its petition to the Supreme Court, Epic argues that the 9th Circuit’s ruling is wrong and that Apple’s App Store policies violate federal antitrust laws.

Epic specifically argues that Apple’s monopoly power in the App Store allows it to charge high commissions on in-app purchases and that this harms consumers and developers. If the Supreme Court agrees to hear Epic’s appeal, it could have a major impact on the future of the App Store and the mobile app market.

A ruling in favor of Epic could force Apple to change its policies and could make it easier for developers to compete with Apple. The company isn’t leaving out one of its popular accessories line – the MIJIA Suitcase. The Chinese tech giant has launched a 20-inch suitcase dubbed MIJIA Aluminum Frame Suitcase. The product carries a price tag of 549 yuan ($75).

In terms of design, the MIJIA Aluminum Frame Suitcase uses a 6-series aluminum alloy middle frame and has “zinc alloy corner guards” to achieve sturdiness. This ensures the frame can’t get easily deformed. In addition, the suitcase also has double TSA locks, a high-performance composite PC sheet, a self-developed high-precision bushing universal wheel, and an antibacterial degree of up to 99%.

The suitcase also has a four-position adjustable drawbar, which is said to be made of stable aluminum alloy manufactured using an anodized aluminum process. In addition, the suitcase has also passed a series of national standards such as impact resistance test, fatigue resistance test, weight drop test, walking test, and lifting shock test.

However, the issues I’ve mentioned and all the problems in the project don’t necessarily mean the Apple Car project will be canceled. Remember, Apple is likely not struggling to make a car, but to make a perfect car. If Kuo’s predictions are accurate, the car will enter the testing phase in 2025 and will be ready for sale in 2026. Nonetheless, it’s essential to point out that this timeline has been postponed multiple times before, so the Apple Car’s release might be delayed even more.

Open AI and former Apple designer Jony Ive plans to secure up to $1 billion in funding from Softbank for creating a new AI device. The AI Device Project has been termed the iPhone of artificial intelligence and Japanese conglomerate Softbank has already backed the project.

Open AI’s Sam Altman will collaborate with Jony Ive’s LoveFrom for the development of the first-ever OpenAI consumer device. The two companies have been reported to have held talks at Ive’s San Francisco studio. The goal is to create a new consumer product focused on OpenAI’s technology. The new device will deliver a more intuitive and natural user experience for AI engagements. The plan resonates with the Apple iPhone’s trajectory and its revolutionary impact on mobile internet for the mass market.

The AI Device Project is in the early stages of its design but various ideas are now under consideration. One of the important details is that ARM will have a significant contribution to the product. The Minisforum UM690S mini PC has been unveiled. The new Minisforum product is equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 processor and has a more powerful cooling architecture than its predecessor.

The UM690S mini PC has dimensions of 129 x 126 x 48mm and is part of the Minisforum Venus series. Its premium AMD Ryzen 9 processor is paired with DDR5 memory and a PCIe 4.0 SSD. The Minisforum UM690S comes with essentially the same specs as the UM690 but with upgrades. It comes with an improved cooling system that enables the mini PC to keep performance levels for longer periods. There are two extra fans at the bottom of the device housing. Minisforum says the new cooling solution results in a drastic reduction in SSD and RAM temperatures.

The AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX has eight Zen 3+ cores and up to 4.9GHz while its Radeon 680M integrated graphics is based on the RDNA 2 architecture. There are two DDR5 SODIMM slots in addition to the PCIe 4.0 slot. There is also enough space to accommodate a 2.5-inch SATA storage device on the UM690S. The Minisforum UM690S has two USB-C ports (USB4 and 10Gbps), four USB-A (each at 10Gbps), two HDMI (@ 4K, 60Hz) and a 3.5mm audio combo jack. The mini PC also has a 2.5GbE LAN port and support for wireless card integration with its M.2 2230 E-key slot.

The Minisforum UM690S Venus Series mini PC is already available on order from the Minisforum website. The barebone version of the device is priced at $351 while the 64GB RAM. 1TB SSD version costs $575. It is noted that the current prices are discounted and the Minisforum UM690S will revert to the original prices later. The earliest shipment of the mini PC is November 2023.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Says Company Committed to Complying with Digital Markets Act, Despite Concerns

The EU Digital Markets Act is a new law designed to ensure fair competition in the digital sector by regulating big tech companies. In essence, it prevents monopolization, like what we see with the App Store and Play Store, where a manufacturer controls its own store and dominates the entire economy of that platform. This law is particularly relevant for Apple products, especially since they don’t allow sideloading. Because of this, some people even refer to the DMA as the “Apple Law.”

However, pushing Apple to do something isn’t that simple. That’s why CEO Tim Cook met with the EU industry chief, Thierry Breton, on September 26 to talk about the Digital Markets Act. Breton urged Cook to make Apple’s hardware and software ecosystem more accessible to competitors. He believes that Apple device users should have the advantage of choosing from a variety of competitive service providers.

Apple has previously criticized the DMA, claiming that it poses risks to users’ privacy. However, Cook has also said that Apple is committed to complying with the DMA. It is not yet clear what specific changes Apple will make to its business practices in order to comply with the law.

The DMA is expected to come into force in 2024. It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to the law and how it changes its business practices as a result.

Xiaomi has launched the MIJIA Automatic Soap Dispenser 1S on the Youpin crowdfunding platform. The new product comes with a price tag of 79 yuan ($11) which will be stable during the crowdfunding period until October 8.

The MIJIA Automatic Soap Dispenser 1S uses an infrared induction design that does not require pressing for 0.25 seconds to produce foam, reducing the risk of cross-infection and providing “micron-level” plump foam. The new product also upgrades to a USB Type-C charging design. It also has a built-in lithium battery and is equipped with a high-efficiency micromotor. Chinese companies are making huge progress in artificial intelligence (AI), with Baidu recently announcing its industry-grade medical AI model and its ChatGPT-rival Ernie gaining a lot of public attention. Smartphone maker Oppo has also entered the AI chatbot scene and is making decent progress. The company has announced that its AI model— AndesGPT— is only second to OpenAI’s GPT-4 in terms of knowledge and encyclopedia capabilities.

Oppo making serious progress in generative AI

Oppo’s Xiaobu Assistant has announced that its AndesGPT model has made it to the September rankings on the SuperCLUE evaluation benchmark. For the unaware, AndesGPT is a generative large language model similar to ChatGPT and Bard.

AndesGPT’s external testing started in early August alongside Oppo’s intelligent assistant, Xiaobu, with the aim of providing a kernel-level upgrade to traditional voice assistants. On the SuperCLUE Top Ten Basic Ability Rankings, AndesGPT achieved a score of 98.33 in the “knowledge and encyclopedia” capability test, ranking second only to GPT-4 and taking the top spot in China.

OPPO announced that it has significantly improved the coverage and accuracy of its AndesGPT large language model in terms of knowledge and encyclopedic abilities by incorporating high-quality knowledge graphs, a large number of QA questions and answers, and optimizing pre-training and fine-tuning techniques.

OPPO announced last month that it will soon launch a large-scale experiential campaign for its all-new Xiaobu Assistant, which is built on the foundation of its AndesGPT large language model. It is said to be capable of generating content tailored to users’ needs based on given text inputs, and its AI capabilities in summarization and synthesis will also see significant enhancements.
