Sony Xperia 1 V might not feature a camera bump, Shady Benchmark reveals massive GPU performance jump

There have been several new Xperia 1 V rumors, but it seems like one of them is not entirely reliable. A potential Sony Xperia 1 V has reportedly been benchmarked on Geekbench once more; however, despite the best efforts of certain fans, the initial record appears to remain hidden from the general public.

According to SumahoDigest, a typically trustworthy source, the purported Geekbench entry is for the “Sony XQ-DT72” model, which is assumed to be an Xperia 1 for 2023. The OpenCL score for GPU testing is 11,647 points, which is essentially twice as much as the previous score (Adreno 740 iGPU vs. Adreno 730 iGPU).

Sony Xperia

Due to the apparent performance boost between the iGPU components of the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 1 V, this specific benchmark leak appears to be rather shady, however, another rumor from ZACKBUKS comes in a more reliable form.

According to the well-known Xperia leaker, the Sony camera team may use LG Innotek’s “Optical Telephoto Zoom Module,” which has the dual advantages of providing 4x to 9x magnification and being so small as to do away with the need for a camera bump. It would be a shocking step for Sony to move away from its own camera expertise.

The Xperia 1 IV launched in China in June and didn’t get on sale in the US until September, and the Xperia 1 III likewise took its time going from China to the US and UK (over two-and-a-half months). However, according to a different insider, Sony is already two months ahead of schedule in the Xperia 1 V’s testing phase compared to its 2022 predecessor. As a result, the launch might happen as early as April 2023. With a little luck, this might mean that fans of the adored line outside of China could see the arrival of the Sony Xperia 1 V in the US, UK, and other countries by June.

India Could Boost Incentives To Get Production of MacBook

Apple recently started manufacturing the latest iPhone 14 in India, and the government is now apparently looking to get the production of MacBooks in the country. According to a report, Delhi is planning to increase the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware to nearly Rs 20,000 crore, against the existing outlay of Rs 7,350 crore.

A TOI report reveals the Indian government is keen to get production of the MacBooks and iPads in the country. Sources in the IT ministry have reportedly claimed that the government wants Apple’s manufacturing ecosystem to grow in the country as the company considers a “China plus one” strategy for global product sourcing.

Macbook production in India

“We have tasted success with the iPhone production as Apple’s all the top manufacturers—Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron – are now making smartphones worth billions of dollars in the country. “The next step for us is to get the production of MacBook and other products, such as iPad, in India,” the sources told TOI.

A proposal to increase the outlay of the scheme has already been forwarded by the IT ministry, which is responsible for growing electronics production in the country. The matter is now up to the court of finance and other related ministries.

Apple is anticipated to produce more devices in India as early as next year. A recent report revealed the company is in talks with a number of its suppliers for increasing the production of AirPods and Beats headphones in India.

Foxconn and other assemblers could soon start producing Apple’s hearables in the country. This move will likely help the company to counter supply chain issues that arise due to Covid and other factors.

Realme’s 240W Charger Appears in Live Images

Smartphone charging continues to evolve, with new technologies and standards being developed all the time. We have already seen smartphones with up to 210W fast charging, and now Realme is gearing up to push the envelope further with a 240W charger. It is expected to arrive soon with the Realme GT Neo5. Ahead of an official announcement, the charger’s live images have surfaced online, revealing its design and a few details.

The images show the adapter with the model number VCKCJACH. It carries a SuperVOOC branding and shows 20V power at 12A current. The charger appears slightly larger and bulkier than standard chargers. This is usually the case with fast-charging chargers because they require larger power components.

Realme 240W charger

Reports suggest the charger has a customized USB-C connector with lower impedance to further reduce the contact resistance, and it also uses thicker wire cores to enable high-current and high-power power transmission. Realme has apparently used an E-Marker encryption chip in the device, which can eliminate security risks.

Higher charging speeds can be associated with more heat, which could potentially damage the phone or its battery. However, Realme is said to have implemented five layers of security protection to counter these risks.

As mentioned, the new 240W charger will debut with the Realme GT Neo5 in Q1 2023. The GT Neo5 will also be launched in a less powerful 150W charging version. The smartphone could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. It is rumored to have a Sony IMX890 primary camera with OIS support.

In addition, the Realme smartphone could pack a 6.7-inch OLED display that offers a 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, a 2160Hz PWM dimming, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. It is expected to have a 4,600mAh battery.

TSMC Could Manufacture the Majority of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chips

Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets are expected to power the majority of flagships in 2024. The chipsets are rumored to be sourced from both Samsung and TSMC to reduce manufacturing costs. However, according to a report, the Taiwanese company will get to manufacture the majority of SD 8 Gen 2 chips due to the high 80 percent yield rate of its 3 nm process. Here are the details.

A Business Next report, citing experts specializing in semiconductor studies, claims that TSMC’s 3nm process node has a yield rate of about 60 to 70 percent, and even around 80 percent in some cases. There are many key factors that affect the yield rate, including materials, parameters, and machines, all of which are variable.

Qualcomm-Snapdragon-5G

It is estimated that the current yield rate from a 3nm GAA wafer is 60–70%, but TSMC is somehow managing to get a yield rate between 75–80%. If the data provided by the report is anything to go by, both Apple and Qualcomm won’t have shipping issues with their next-generation chipsets, the A17 Bionic and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Samsung was reported to get a yield rate of about 20% before partnering with US company Silicon Frontline Technology. This is likely the reason why the majority of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 orders will be fulfilled by the Taiwanese manufacturer. According to those familiar with Samsung’s plans, the company’s wafer yield is only 10%.

As a result of the added costs and complexities associated with this manufacturing process, Qualcomm may have to charge its smartphone partners more per chipset. This should mean that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones will be slightly pricier compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Could Ditch the 128GB Base Model

Although flagship smartphones have long abandoned 64GB as the base model, 128GB still remains the industry standard. But that seems to be changing now as Samsung is rumored to launch the upcoming Galaxy S23 series with at least 256 GB storage. While this might be good news for the power users, the normal ones will not be as thrilled.

The piece of information comes from Ahmed Qwaider, who has a decent track record of Samsung-related leaks. If 128GB is indeed gone, then we can expect the higher-end Galaxy S23 Ultra to come with only 12GB RAM. Notably, Qwaider revealed only one storage option for the S23 and S23+ but three for the S23 Ultra.

It goes without saying that the increase in base storage would translate to a higher starting price. To recall Samsung Galaxy S22 series was launched last year with a starting price of around $883. But this year, we may see a significant jump in those numbers.

Samsung’s 2023 flagships are just around the corner. The lineup should include the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The brand is rumored to launch the new smartphones alongside the One UI 5.1 and the next generation of Samsung Galaxy Book on February 1. However, an official launch date is still awaited.

Earlier today, a leak revealed the color options of the upcoming models. Apparently, the brand will not offer the S23 smartphones in white this year. The devices may arrive in Phantom Black, Green, Lavender, and Cream. In addition, rumors suggest the series will feature a new, robust thermal management system for better performance. The brand is also said to be addressing the CPU throttling issue.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi K60 series comprising the regular, Pro and K60E variants in China last month. The K60 and K60 Pro went on sale in the country yesterday. Today, the Xiaomi sub-brand announced the success of the first flash sale of the smartphones. The company revealed on the microblogging platform Weibo that it has sold the first batch of 3,00,000 units of the Redmi K60 phones in 5 minutes.

The sales numbers sound impressive considering that 3,00,000 units were sold in 5 minutes. This means that 100 units were purchased every second or 60,000 units were purchased every minute. Unfortunately, despite the success of the first sale, the Redmi K60 series still falls short of the sales record of its predecessor. The Redmi K50 comprising of two devices sold 3,30,000 units in the first day. This is a 10 percent decline in the first flash sale.

The Xiaomi sub-brand said that users loved new features like a 1220p screen, wireless charging, and Snapdragon 8 processors. It remains to be seen if the overall sales of the Redmi K60 series will surpass the Redmi K50 series.

As for core specifications, the Redmi K60 series feature a 6.67-inch OLED display bearing a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The regular, Pro, and K60E come with 60MP, 50MP, and 48MP main sensors paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth snapper. Oppo Watch 3 Could Take on Galaxy Watch 5 in Global Markets

The Oppo Watch 3 series made its debut in China in August. It has been more than four months, however, the brand is yet to make an official announcement regarding the availability of its latest wearables in international markets.

But a report recently suggested that the Oppo Watch 3 will make its way to India by the end of March or early April.  Unfortunately, the report did not reveal anything more about the product.

Oppo Watch 3
Oppo Watch 3

In 2020, Oppo debuted the first-generation Oppo Watch in international markets. That wearable featured different chipsets in mainland China and other regions.

The Oppo Watch 2 series remained exclusive to China. Now, if the report is to be believed, the Oppo Watch 3 will be released in international markets.

Since the first-gen model had different specs across regions, there’s a chance that the Oppo Watch 3 for global markets could be different from the original sold in China.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Oppo launches the recently debuted Oppo Watch SE as Oppo Watch 3 outside mainland China. Because this particular wearable could help the company maintain competitive pricing.

Either way, we hope that Oppo brings any of these smartwatches to global markets. Because the options for watches with Wear OS are way more limited than in previous years.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series of wearables are currently the default choice for anyone looking for a proper smartwatch on the Android platform. The only other options are Fosill Gen 6 Wellness Edition and Google Pixel Watch. But these two are only sold in select countries, unlike Galaxy Watches which are available in almost all regions.

Oppo Watch SE

Both Oppo Watch 3 and Oppo Watch SE feature great hardware. The former is powered by a Snapdragon W5 chip, while the latter houses a Snapdragon 4100 Plus SoC. They also come with co-processors, namely Apollo 4 Plus (Watch 3)  and Apollo 4s (Watch SE).

The aforementioned hardware is enough to run the latest Wear OS 3.0 smoothly. Thus, if Oppo brings either of these watches to global markets, they can take on Samsung.

These wearables also offer features, such as eSIM, Bluetooth calling, multiple sports modes, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen level monitoring, sleep tracking, 5ATM water resistance, and more. But they lack ECG and blood pressure monitoring, which are offered on Galaxy Watch 4/5.

That being said, we are looking forward to learning more details about the Oppo Watch 3 global variant in the coming days. Do let us know your expectations of this upcoming wearable in the comment section below.
