Sony records over 25 million PS5 console sales

Sony just recently shared its latest earnings report, which revealed that its PS5 consoles are seeing robust sales. The company has sold more than 25 million units of its PlayStation 5 console model to date. So here are all the details.

As per official notes, the Japanese tech giant shared that it sold around 3.3 million units of PlayStation 5 consoles in just this quarter alone. With this, the company has managed to sell over 25 million units of the PS5 to date. Furthermore, the brand also projected that it would sell a total of 18 million PS5s by the end of the fiscal year 2022. Although, the brand has only sold around 5.7 million units halfway through the fiscal year, which means it is far short of its sales expectation as of right now.

Sony

However, despite Sony not seeing any notable rise in unit sales over last year, the revenue from the sales saw a noticeable rise of 12 percent. This was thanks in part due to the hike in pricing earlier this year. But, the profits were down by a significant 49 percent due to the company’s recent acquiition of known game developing studio Bungie, which was behind the original Halo trilogy.

Sony only sold around 11.5 units of the PS5 game console last year, so we can expect the 2022 sales to be more than the previous year. But it remains to be seen if the company manages to achieve its 18 million units sales target. Back in May 2022, the brand had also announced that it will be ramping up production of the PS5 to meet demand while the supply chain issues were easing. Since it still sticking to an 18 million units target, the company might have an ace up its sleeve. So stick around for more updates.

Google no longer forces app developers to use its in-house billing system with 30% fee in India

Google has announced that it will be stopping its enforcement of a policy, which had mandated app developers to use its in house billing system in India. This means that developers no longer have to pay the 30 percent service fee to the company. Here’s all we know about this matter.

The Search Engine giant has said that it will no longer force app developers to use its proprietary billing system when they are selling digital products. This news arrives following a new ruling by the local government’s antitrust body. For those unaware, the brand had previously set an extended deadline of October 31 to allow developers in India to integrate apps with its Google Play billing system. This system would also charge a commission fee that ranged from 15 percent to 30 percent for each sale.

Google

If this sounds familiar, Apple also employs a similar structure and also had a legal battle with Epic Games regarding this system. And similarly, even Apple started letting app developers skip their billing system to avoid the commission fee. For those unaware, the CCI (Competition Commission of India) ordered Google not to restrict app developers from using third party billing or payment processing services within India last week. Apart from this, the company was also hit with a sizeable 113 million US Dollar fine as well.

A couple of days ago, Google also stated that the requirement to use the billing system is still is still applicable for users outside of this country. Furthermore, it will also be looking into taking legal options in the region. Both Apple and Google have been facing criticism, with allegations of both firms holding a solid monopoly in the app market. Since then, both companies have lowered the service fee but maintain that a charge is set to ensure funds to a safe and secure mobile ecosystem.

Apple iPhone 14’s screen is easier to repair, but there’s a catch

A new report has revealed that the latest Apple iPhone 14 series of smartphones are seemingly easier to repair than their predecessor. However, it’s not all good news since there is a catch. Here’s what we know.

The Cupertino based giant has claimed that the new iPhone 14 lineup will be easier to fix than the previous iterations. However, this easier fix is apparently not available to third party repair stores. The news arrives from sources within the third party repair community who told Engadget that breaking down an iPhone 14 sure is easy, although, putting it back together and having it work as intended is another issue entirely.

Apple

As per the report, the iPhone 14 has two ambient light sensors that help control the brightnes of the display. However, using an unauthorized display for the replacement has these two ambient light sensor stop working entirely. What this means is, your iPhone’s display will be completely black, unless you somehow remember the exact position of the screen brightness slider and manage to manually adjust the brightness. But now, you’ll have to manually adjut it every time. The issue stems from Apple’s “part pairing” restriction, which basically adds a unique digital ID to individual components that the iPhone 14 recognizes. So using unauthorized parts causes some components to stop working.

To verify new parts, one would need Apple’s in house software and an Apple authorized technician. In the past, third party repairer could use a special device called the EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory) programmer, which lets you rewrite the information stored on an EEPROM microchip. This let technicians read the ID from the original display and put it only in the replacement panel. However, this process seems to be impossible on the new iPhone 14 series.

Huawei Watch GT Cyber hands on images showcase a sporty design

Huawei had recently teased a new smartwatch called the Watch GT Cyber, which is set to launch with the P50 Pocket S foldable smartphone. But ahead of the official announcement, the hands on images of the upcoming smartwatch have been leaked. So let’s have a look.

Huawei

The news arrives from a known tipster @RODENT950 who shared hands on images with the Watch GT Cyber on Twitter. Looking at the image, we can we that the new smartwatch will come with a sporty look. Furthermore, the design language also makes it appear a bit bulky as well. Although, the live images showcase that the Chinese tech giant did not exaggerate anything in the marketing materials, so the design is exactly what was teased before.

The most interesting aspect of the Watch GT Cyber is the disconnecting dial, which can be dismounted from its external case. These leaked images show that this external part is quite big and would even dwarf the Apple Wach Ultra. The images also showed a digital crown with a crown guard, but no other physical buttons are visible. It is also unclear if the new smart wearable will support replaceable straps and other accessories.

As of right now, the Huawei Watch GT Cyber is only expected to be launched in China. So, it is unknown if the brand will be releasing this model outside of its home market. But if the company does go for a global launch, it will take at least a few months. The Watch GT Cyber is set to launch alongside the P50 Pocket S foldable phone, with the annuncement set for November 2.

Apple iPhone SE 4’s display size yet to be confirmed, OLED panel in rumors

Leaked information that surfaced around two weeks ago revealed that the Apple iPhone SE 4 would sport a design similar to the iPhone XR. However, display analyst Ross Young has claimed (via. Macrumors) that the iPhone SE 4’s display size has not been finalized yet. It appears that the Cupertino-based company is mulling over different display sizes for the iPhone SE 4.

The existing iPhone SE is equipped with an LCD panel. According to a recent report, the iPhone SE 4’s design will be similar to the iPhone XR, which debuted back in 2018. Hence, it is equipped with a notched display on the front and a single camera with an LED flash on the back. To recall, the iPhone XR featured a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display.

For the iPhone SE 4, Apple is reportedly considering 5.7-inch to 6.1-inch LCD panels from two suppliers, as well as a 6.1-inch OLED panel from two suppliers. Hence, it is unclear whether the iPhone SE 4 will feature a 5.7-inch or a 6.1-inch display with OLED or LCD technology.

Other reports have claimed that the iPhone SE 4 could be the company’s first phone with a side-facing fingerprint scanner. Renders of the iPhone SE 4 that surfaced last month showed that it might still have a Lightning port.

The fourth-generation iPhone SE may come equipped with the Apple A15 or the latest A16 Bionic chip. Like the current iPhone SE, the device may arrive in black, white, and red colors. Rumors are rife that the iPhone SE 4 will break cover by early 2023.

Moto Watch 200 leaked images suggest both circular & rectangular models

Almost a year after Motorola launched the Moto Watch 100, the brand is rumored to be working on its successor, called the Moto Watch 200. Earlier this month, the smartwatch was spotted on the FCC database, revealing its design and box image.

It is clear from these images that the smartwatch will feature a rectangular display, unlike its predecessor, which comes with a circular dial. Now, popular tipster SnoopyTech has tweeted out marketing images of the Moto Watch 200, which reveal a circular display.

Although it is in conflict with the FCC revealing a square dial, it is possible that Motorola is working on two designs for the smartwatch. This won’t be an uncommon practice, as we have seen brands like Amazfit and OnePlus (Nord Watch) do it before.

The FCC ID (MOSWZ200) of its squarer sibling is included alongside the brand name “Moto Watch 200” on the back of the circular smartwatch. In addition to a heart rate sensor and interchangeable watch bands, the round model allegedly offers proprietary wireless charging. The image also reveals the smartwatch hooked to a wired charger, which could or could not be a USB Type-C.

In a similar vein, the FCC’s leak stated that the Moto Watch 200 would debut with an aluminum case as well, as well as Bluetooth LE and GPS capabilities. Unsurprisingly, the smartwatch will also be water-resistant up to 5 ATM. Although a debut date has not yet been revealed, official marketing materials suggest that Motorola is very close to releasing the product. The Moto Watch 200’s FCC certification indicates that the smartwatch will also be released in North America.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro is the new king of camera phones on DxOMark

Google’s latest Pixel 7 Pro laid claim to the number one spot on DxOMark’s best camera list only recently, sharing it with the Honor Magic4 Ultimate. However, both of these devices have now been dethroned by the Huawei Mate 50 Pro, which has finally made its global debut.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro DxOMark

The Mate 50 Pro has scored 149 points in DxOMark’s smartphone camera test thanks to its new triple camera system of 50MP + 64MP + 13MP shooters enhanced with features such as OIS, 3.5x optical zoom, and variable aperture technology. The Pixel 7 Pro and the Honor Magic4 Ultimate are currently sharing the second spot with 147 points each.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro

According to DxOMark, 50 Pro has subjectively “pleasant” color reproduction (in good lighting), “pleasant” bokeh, “good” detail even at high magnification, as well as efficient auto-focus and “well-controlled” video in terms of panning. The camera is also praised for having a wide dynamic range in both photo and video modes.

The test also revealed that the Mate 50 Pro had some white balance flaws, and in some circumstances, its new XMAGE AI processing was a bit slower in capturing the scene. These minor differences, however, were insufficient to prevent the Mate 50 Pro from receiving a final total score of 149.

The top-class camera performance certainly adds value to the Mate 50 Pro, which lacks both 5G and Google Play Services. However, it still might not justify the €1,199 price tag, which is considerably higher than both the Pixel 7 Pro and the Honor Magic4 Ultimate.

Notably, you can also get the device via stores like AliExpress for around the same price tag.
