Apple Watch users in India are vulnerable to phishing

All Apple Watch users, especially those who are running versions older than watchOS 8.7, have received a high-alert warning from the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology through its nodal organization, CERT-In. There are potential and major phishing risks in India. The problem is so serious that consumers are being advised to take quick action if they are impacted. The warning makes it clear that remote hackers are currently focusing their attention on the Apple Watch with deadly intentions as this department mostly deals with cyber security issues like phishing and hacking.

Apple Watch Edition Series 7

According to the government, the Apple Watch has several flaws that allow remote hackers to get through the targeted device’s security measures. It is thought that the hackers submit a specially constructed request that allows them to run any arbitrary code. Access to the user’s data is possible if successful.

The Cause

The buffer overflow in the AppleAVD component, according to the CERT-IN, is what leads to these vulnerabilities in Apple Watch; “an authorization issue in AppleMobileFileintegrity component; out-of-bounds write in Audio, ICU and WebKit component; type confusion in Multi-Touch component; Multiple out-of-bounds write and memory corruption in GPU Drivers component; out-of-bounds read in Kernel component; and memory initialization in libxmI2 component.”

The solution

Fortunately, Apple has already released the latest watchOS 8.7 update, which addresses the aforementioned vulnerabilities and fixes the issues. As a result, owners of the Apple Watch may now defend themselves against phishing attacks by updating WatchOS 8.7. This is how:

  • Ensure a Wi-Fi network is active on your Apple Watch.
  • Navigate to the watch’s Settings app.
  • After choosing General, click Software Update.
  • If a new software update is available, a message will appear on the screen. After selecting Install, heed the prompts on the screen, and wait for an update to appear.

Refrain from worrying about the issue as soon as you update the operating system of the Apple Watch.

Nothing Phone 1 vs POCO F4 5G – Specs Comparison

The Nothing Phone (1) was launched in early July, and it is placed in a segment that’s very competitive. There are a bunch of good phones available at its price point from the likes of OnePlus, POCO, and even Motorola, making the choice harder for consumers. That’s the reason we have been covering a lot of Nothing Phone 1 comparisons over the past few weeks.

In this comparison, let’s take a look at how the Nothing Phone 1 compares against the POCO F4 5G. Both are value-for-money devices, but are targeted at a different set of users. Read on to find out which one excels in each department.

Nothing Phone 1 vs POCO F4 5G

Design

The POCO F4 5G might not feel as fancy as the Nothing Phone (1) but it can stand on its own in its segment, all thanks to its premium design. The phone takes a more traditional approach of using frosted glass with a matte frame and curved edges, giving a comfortable grip while still enabling an expensive feel. The three color options of Moonlight Silver, Night Black, and Nebula Green also look pretty premium unlike the Nothing device which comes in just Black and White.

However, the Nothing Phone (1) stands out in this price segment featuring a transparent back cover with a matrix of LEDs which the company calls the glyph interface. The white color model would be the obvious choice for many and comes with a clear view of the internals like wireless charging coils and customizable LED lights.

Both phones have IP53 rating, so they have dust and water resistance.

Overall, it’ll be a matter of personal choice whether you prefer POCO F4’s traditional but premium design or the more unique design profile of the Nothing Phone (1).

Display

Both, the Nothing Phone (1) and the POCO F4 5G come with HDR10+ certification, FHD+ resolution, and 120Hz display with Corning gorilla glass 5. The Nothing model is slightly more compact at 6.55-inch while the POCO phone features a 6.67-inch screen. Note that the POCO model would be a bit brighter than the Nothing model owing to its 900 nits (High Brightness Mode) over the 500 nits typical brightness on the Nothing phone.

Overall, both the displays are well-matched in this department.

Specs & Software

The POCO F4 5G clearly has an edge in the performance department of this comparison. The phone comes with the popular Snapdragon 870 chip with up to 12GB of RAM, which means you will have no problems gaming or running high-intensive tasks on this device.

On the other hand, the Nothing Phone 1 comes with a less powerful, mid-range Snapdragon 778+ processor. This chip is good for mid-range tasks and medium to light gaming, but is clearly no powerhouse. But unless you are a power user, this chip should be fine, especially if you get its 12GB RAM with 256GB ROM version.

The Nothing Phone (1) comes with a cleaner Nothing OS on top of Android 12. On the other hand, the POCO F4 5G features MIUI 13 based on the same Android 12 version.

Camera

The Nothing Phone (1) has a dual camera setup, with one 50MP primary camera with OIS and one 50MP shooter for ultra-wide angle shots. Coming to the POCO F4 5G, it uses a more traditional approach of a 64MP primary shooter paired with an 8MP ultra-wide angle shooter and another 2MP macro camera.

The POCO F4’s primary camera is enough to capture good details and colors in well-lit situations. But it won’t likely blow your mind and the Nothing Phone (1) is likely to output better images, especially when you compare the ultra-wide cameras on both devices. As mentioned above, there’s an additional Macro camera on the POCO model, and it can surprisingly capture good macro shots in well-lit situations.

But overall, the Nothing model should be able to capture better pictures with its dual camera setup. That said, only a direct camera sample comparison between the two phones would help us get a final verdict regarding its cameras.

Battery

Both phones come with 4500mAh batteries but the POCO F4 adds a faster 67W charger inside. On the other hand, the Nothing Phone (1) supports only a 33W power brick.

Unfortunately, Nothing does not feature a charger inside its box, and you’ll have to buy it separately as an accessory. However, it does have an edge in the battery department, which comes in the way of wireless and reverse wireless charging at 15W and 5W respectively.

Price

The Nothing Phone (1) starts at  ₹32,999/£399/€469. On the other hand, the POCO F4 5G is available for a slightly cheaper price tag across the globe(₹27,999/$329/€420).

The POCO F4 5G would be a safe bet for a flagship killer at this price range. It comes with a powerful processor, good display, decent cameras, along with a fast charging battery. On the other hand, the Nothing Phone (1) brings a unique design profile with LED lights, a good set of cameras, and wireless charging too.

Your choice would depend on your priorities and budget, so end of the day, it’s up to you to decide which features are more important to you.

OnePlus Nord Watch design revealed via health app screenshots

Back in March 2021, OnePlus launched its first wearable dubbed the OnePlus Watch. However, the brand has not released any other wearable smart device since then.

Recent reports suggest that the company is trying its hand again at a new wearable that will be called the OnePlus Nord Watch, and the device has even made an appearance on the BIS certification database, meaning that it will launch in the Indian market.

Now, tipster Mukul Sharma has shared a new leak giving us our first look at the OnePlus Nord smartwatch.

The tipster informs that the device will feature a dedicated “N Health” app, which has revealed the first look of the smartwatch. From the screenshot, we can see that the Nord Watch has a rectangular dial instead of the circular dial featured on the OnePlus Watch.

The screenshot reveals what appears to be a metal frame with rounded corners, and a crown button which is likely there for ease of navigation with the UI.

Other than that, the screenshot also has revealed six watch faces coming for the Nord Watch. You can also see the “Custom dial” feature, which let you customize your watch face using photographs from a connected device.

The OnePlus Nord Watch’s step counting feature and its sports modes for outdoor cycling and outdoor walking are both confirmed in one of the photos. Additionally, according to the source, the OnePlus Nord Watch will have a SpO2 sensor, heart rate monitoring, and sleep tracking capabilities.

Currently, the launch date of the OnePlus Nord Watch is still under wraps but considering that it has already received the go-ahead from BIS, we can expect it to launch in India sometime in Q3 2022. As for the pricing, a previous report suggests that the Nord Watch might be launched in the segment between 5,000 INR and 8,000 INR.
