China is one of the world’s leading countries for cashless payment as a report in March 2020, indicated that 83 percent of transactions within are through mobile payment apps, the highest cashless adoption rate for a country in the entire globe. To put into perspective, China has a staggering figure of 776 million mobile cashless payment users, which is more than all population in the European continent combined.
Thus, it is no surprise that the country’s central bank, the Bank of China, is currently conducting a pilot project of Digital RMB, to fully replace the RMB paper notes. The Digital RMB is an app available to download in China via the iOS App Store or Android app stores in the country, and the app even supports devices as old as Android 5 Lollipop.
Digital RMB app
Recently, the well-renowned Chinese tech media site, ITHome, reported the Digital RMB app (pilot version) has received several welcomed quality-of-life software improvements. The latest version of the app is 1.0.9.0, and is now available on iOS and Android from today onwards. The Digital RMB app changelog is as follows:
Smaller overall app size
Faster startup times
Faster load times
Software Improvements on PIN-less Biometric Transactions
Upgraded from a 32-bit application to a 64-bit application
The Digital RMB (Pilot Version) app is an official legal digital currency that is just like your normal RMB paper notes. China is looking forward to transitioning to Digital RMB as the country’s official currency in the future.

The app allows users to create wallets within the app, send and request currency within the app, and allow seamless transactions via QR codes, whether it be sending money to friends or family, or paying for goods and services to a business. And since Digital RMB is set to be the future official currency, merchants in the future must all be using the Digital RMB if they want to earn officially legal money.
Digital RMB App
However, the Digital RMB is still within its pilot testing stages. But earlier in March 2022, the Bank of China did announce the good news that the Digital RMB project will be expanded to more cities within the country like Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Guangdong, Fuzhou and Xiamen in the near future. The institution also announced that Beijing and Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province will be converted into pilot cities for the Digital RMB pilot project as well after the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics are completed.

Samsung is among the handful of smartphone companies that manufacture its own chipsets. The South Korean giant has a lineup of processors under the Samsung Exynos brand, ranging from flagship chips to budget or mid-range.
Recently, there were reports that the company will increase the usage of its own chips in the Samsung Galaxy smartphones. It was also rumored to be working on a dedicated chipset for the flagship devices.
Now, a new report coming from Korea claims that Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division has started the development of an Application Processor (AP), especially for the Samsung Galaxy series smartphones.
Although Samsung has been making Exynos chips for years now, the company has not yet made a processor dedicated to the Galaxy range of smartphones which the company has now decided to work on.
This is similar to what Apple does with the A-series chips, which power devices only from Apple. However, the new AP from Samsung isn’t expected to be available until 2025. Optimization focused on a single product line instead of having a general configuration will definitely help Samsung offer better performance and low power consumption.
So far, the company has been using chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek along with its own Exynos lineup. However, most of the flagship smartphones from the brand come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and its Exynos chips, depending on the region.
Apart from a dedicated chip for its own smartphones, Samsung is also focusing on expanding the market share of Exynos chips and has decided to adopt its own chips on more and more smartphones coming from the brand.
China’s largest carrier China Mobile is known for selling smartphones under a brand called Nzone. These devices are developed by Huawei. Hence, some of these handsets are rebadged or tweaked versions of existing Huawei phones.
Nzone S7 Pro 5G
The telecom giant is now expected to release a new smartphone as a mysterious model has appeared on TENAA. The listing of the device discloses most of its features.
First and foremost, the upcoming Nzone-branded handset will bear model number SP210. It will be powered by a chipset featuring a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU. The SoC will be paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.
The phone will house a 50MP triple camera setup on the rear and a 16MP front-facing camera. It is listed to arrive with support for 10x optical zoom. However, we believe that it could be a typo as Nzone smartphones are usually either budget or mid-range models.
Further, the device will sport a 6.7-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2388 x 1080 pixels (FHD+) and 16.7 million colors. Unsurprisingly, it will have support for 5G connectivity and will be backed by a 4,900mAh battery.
The handset will measure 163.29 x 74.7 x 8.372mm in dimensions and weigh 195g. It will be available in four colors, such as black, white, green, and blue.
China Mobile is yet to tease the arrival of the aforementioned smartphone. Hence, it is not known when the phone will be officially presented.

The same device has also appeared on the BIS India site. The listing does not reveal the specifications of the smartphone but it indicates that it might be launched soon.
It is worth noting that a device with the same model number was also spotted on the FCC certification site. The FCC listing revealed some key specifications of the smartphone. As per the listing, POCO C40 is likely to run MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box. However, it is possible that the handset may carry a lite version of the MIUI software skin. The POCO C40 will carry support for WiFi 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. The listing also confirms that the smartphone will only have 10W charging. It will measure 167.18 x 76.87mm (length x width).
Previous reports have suggested that the POCO C40 will be powered by an unusual JR510 processor manufactured by China’s JLQ technology. Moreover, the smartphone is expected to carry a 6000mAh battery and a dual-camera setup on the back.
POCO has not confirmed any details about the device, however, judging from the specs, it is likely to be priced under $128. The smartphone will see daylight later this year.

Google and Samsung have collaborated to build a new platform called Health Connect. It is an API (application programming interface) that will enable syncing of users’ health data between Android apps and devices.
Health Connect will allow developers to securely access data from different programs to sync and track it across apps and devices. This should make it easier for users to manage their health and fitness data across various platforms.
Health Connect supports over 50 data categories, including exercise and sleep, as well as vitals like heart rate and blood pressure. To guarantee that users have complete control over their data, the new API offers centralized privacy settings that make it simple to provide authorization to the apps with whom they want to share their on-device data.
“We’re working alongside Google and other partners to realize the full benefits and potential of Health Connect,” Samsung Executive VP TaeJong Jay Yang said in a press release. “I’m excited to confirm that Samsung Health will also adopt Health Connect later this year. With users’ permission, this will enable app developers to take advantage of accurate and optimized data measured on Galaxy Watch for Samsung Health and use it in their apps as well”, he added.

Samsung is doubling down on the foldable smartphones, and the company is gearing up to launch the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones in the coming months.
Ahead of the official launch of these upcoming phones, several details about the devices have already surfaced online. In the latest development, it is being reported that the South Korean giant has now started mass producing components for smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Smartphone Render by OnLeaks / Smartprix
The latest report from SamMobile claims that Samsung has started mass production of the core components used in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones.
Samsung expects to ship more than 10 million units of the upcoming foldable smartphones this year. Given the popularity of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 smartphone compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the production of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 could account for about 70 percent of the company’s foldable smartphones.
If the company manages to ship its targeted units by the end of this year, then it will be a milestone as for the first time, the foldable phones could account for about 1 percent of all the smartphones delivered worldwide.
Although the foldable smartphones are still pricier than the traditional phones, we expect the pricing to decrease in the coming years, with more such devices from other brands entering the market. The lower pricing could lead to more people adopting and using foldable phones, increasing their market share globally.

Design
As already mentioned above, the new Google Pixel 6a adopts a new design language that is the same as the Pixel 6 lineup. You get a horizontal camera module, but you should also notice that the materials used are cheaper. While the Pixel 5a 5G has a full aluminum unibody design, the new handset comes with a plastic back and an aluminum frame. Both are dustproof and water resistant thanks to the IP67 certification, but the old model is more interesting in terms of build quality, even though it is definitely uglier when it comes to the look. So what do you prefer? Is it better to have a beautiful look or sturdier materials?
Display
The displays of these two models come with almost the same specifications. They are OLED panels with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and the HDR certification, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. What changes is the diagonal and the position of the punch hole: the Google Pixel 6a has a smaller 6.1-inch panel and a punch hole placed centrally, while the Google Pixel 5a 5G comes with a punch hole placed on the top left corner and a bigger 6.34-inch display. So the 5a 5G is more comfortable for gaming and productivity, but the 6a is more compact and easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket.
Specs & Software
The main advantage of the Google Pixel 6a is its hardware superiority. It is powered by the flagship-class Google Tensor main platform, the same used in the vanilla Pixel 6 and in the Pixel 6 Pro, built at 5 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.8 GHz. The Google Tensor is the first proprietary chipset released by Google and it is able to compete with the Snapdragon 888 by Qualcomm in terms of CPU and GPU performance. The SoC is paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. You get the same memory configuration with the Google Pixel 5a 5G, but with a weaker chipset: the midrange-class Snapdragon 765G mobile platform. Even though it is not mentioned in the name of the 6a, both the devices support 5G connectivity. The Google Pixel 6a runs Android 12 out of the box so it will get longer software support because the 5a 5G ships with Android 11 and already received one major update.
Camera
Both these handsets are equipped with a dual rear camera and they have the same main sensor: a 12.2 MP shooter with OIS. It is a pretty old sensor but it still manages to capture great photos. The difference is in the ultrawide camera: the Google Pixel 6a gets a 12 MP ultrawide lens, while the Google Pixel 5a 5G has 16 MP and a slightly wider FOV.
Last but not least, the battery: thanks to its bigger dimensions, the Google Pixel 5a 5G contains a bigger battery with a capacity of 4680 mAh. So with this device, you can get longer battery life in a lot of scenarios, even though its chipset is built with an inferior production process.
Price
Google Pixel 6a and Pixel 5a 5G hitten the shelves with a listing prices around €450/$450 (the prices vary depending on the markets). The Google Pixel 6a wins the comparison thanks to its better chipset, in-display fingerprint reader, and Android 12 out of the box, but its predecessor still has a lot to offer, such as a bigger display and battery, as well as an aluminum unibody design. Which one would you pick?
