It was reported last month that OPPO is gearing to launch the OPPO A16K mid-range phone by early January 2022 in India. Mahesh Telecom has shared a poster of the device that reveals its pricing, configuration, and color variants of the device. It appears that it may not take too long for the A16K to go official.

The OPPO A16k poster shows that it will carry a price tag of Rs 10,490. At this price, the device will offer 3G GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It is unclear whether the company will be offering in other variants. The handset will come in two colors such as black and blue.

The poster further reveals that the OPPO A16k has a 6.52-inch LCD panel with a waterdrop notch. It will offer an HD+ resolution and an eye care feature that will probably protect eyes from harmful blue light emitted by the screen. The device will run on Android 11, which is likely to be overlaid with ColorOS 11.1.

The device will offer users a 13-megapixel camera with an LED flash on the back. The frontside of the phone features a 5-megapixel snapper. It is backed by a 4,230mAh battery that supports 10W charging. It will be sporting a slim design measuring only 7.8mm in thickness. The device lacks a fingerprint scanner.

While the A16k is a new phone for India, it has already launched in the Philippines back in November 2020. It’s a toned-down edition of the OPPO A16, which came with specs like a 6.52-inch HD+ display, Android 11, 13-megapixel triple cameras, an 8-megapixel front camera, Helio G35, 4 GB of RAM, a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging. The A16k is likely to feature the Helio G35 chip.

Xiaomi MIX 5 Pro may feature Surge C2, camera configurations leaked

Xiaomi is reportedly working on the Xiaomi MIX 5 series of flagship phones. The lineup may include two models such as Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro. A fresh report claims that the Pro model could be equipped with the Surge C2 ISP.

The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro have respective shortened model numbers such as L1A and L1. Xiaomi offered its first Surge ISP called the Surge C1 with the Xiaomi MIX Fold last year. According to Xiaomiui, the “MIPISEL” feature has been found in the Mi code of the MIX 5 Pro. It relates to the Surge C1 chip, which was found on the MIX Fold and the company’s unannounced flip phone. The MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro are likely to differ in two departments: camera sensors and camera processor.

The report states that the second-generation Surge C2 ISP or the existing Surge C1 could be made available on the MIX 5 Pro. It further states that the MIX 5 may feature the Surge C1 chip. At present, there are no details available on the features of the C2.

To recollect, the Surge C1 controlled the multi-functional telephoto camera that was coupled with the liquid-lens technology on the MIX Fold. The 3A algorithm of the Surge C1 regulated autofocus, automatic white balance, and automatic exposure simultaneously. It assisted MIX Fold users to capture better shots in low-light conditions.

Xiaomi MIX 5, MIX 5 Pro camera details

The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro will have a 48-megapixel front-facing camera. The MIX 5’s rear camera setup will have an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel (8192 x 6144 pixels resolution) main camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 48-megapixel camera with 2x optical zoom. On the other side, the MIX 5 Pro will have an OIS-ready 50-megapixel (8192 x 6144 pixels resolution) primary camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, and an OIS-assisted 48-megapixel lens with 5x optical zoom.

The resolution of 8192 x 6144 pixels resolution is associated with 50-megapixel Sony sensors such as IMX766 and IMX707. Hence, the MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro models may come equipped with these camera sensors.

The leaked render of the Redmi K50 Pro reveals that the smartphone will come with a single punch-hole cutout in the top-center position and the display will have rounded corners, similar to the phone’s body.

On the back, the device will have a camera module placed in the top-left corner. The black-colored square section will hold the three camera sensors in a triangular format and a silver-colored rectangular section will house the LED flash. The render also reveals that there will be a 64-megapixel primary camera sensor.

We have exclusive images of the transparent silicone case for the Redmi K50 Pro smartphone which, as mentioned above, is in line with the leaked render. This pretty much confirms this to be the phone’s final design.

As for the specifications, it is said that the 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary sensor will be coupled with a 13-megapixel OV13B10 ultra-wide angle lens. The third sensor could be a 2-megapixel GC02M1 or an 8-megapixel OV08A10 macro lens. It could feature a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Apple iPhone SE with 5G support expected to launch in March

Apple has an affordable iPhone in the form of iPhone SE and the company is now gearing up to launch a third-generation model. Ahead of the device getting official, several details have already been leaked online.

Now, a new report claims that the new Apple iPhone SE, which is said to come with support for 5G connectivity, could go official sometime in March or April this year at an Apple event.

Apple iPhone SE 2020

According to the report from Mark Gurman in Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple is expected to host its first major event of this year sometime in March or April, and similar to previous events, this one will also be conducted virtually.

Reports indicate that the upcoming iPhone SE could get launched at this upcoming event from the tech giant and will apparently be the focus of the event. Apple has a track record of launching new products at an event in March or April so the event is likely to happen.

Based on the previous leaks and reports, the iPhone SE 2022 will be similar to the model available right now in terms of design but will arrive with better specifications. It will look like an iPhone 8 but will feature upgrades in terms of internals.

The phone is expected to come with a 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD display and will also feature a Home button with a fingerprint sensor embedded. It is likely to be the last Apple smartphone to come packed with an LCD display panel and a home button.

It will be powered by the Apple A15 processor along with 3GB of RAM while there could also be a Plus variant that will pack 4GB of RAM. The chipset also brings support for 5G connectivity to the phone. There will still be a 12-megapixel single camera sensor on the back with improved photography features.

A recent estimate from J.P. Morgan claims that the upcoming iPhone SE could lure nearly 1.4 billion low to mid-range Android phone users as well as about 300 million older iPhone model users.

John Deere unveils autonomy kit that allows its tractors function unmanned

The autonomous vehicle transformation is fast catching up with the agricultural sector with the announcement by John Deere of an autonomous tractor. Agricultural automation has been improving gradually over the years and this is certainly a milestone in the sector.
Agricultural equipment maker John Deere says the fully autonomous tractor combines machine learning with the company’s GPS-powered auto-steer features in its operation. The tractor allows the farmer to remotely monitor the equipment while also engaged in other activities. This means the farmer can take his hands off the wheel of the tractor, leave the cab completely or be elsewhere and still have the tractor do his bidding using his smartphone.

John Deere has reiterated that the autonomous tractor is not a demo and production will commence this fall. The company says it is not a concept machine and had been under development for several years.

John Deere has been at the heart of the silent transformation in agricultural automation, with several tailor-made solutions to different aspects of the agricultural ecosystem. Auto-steer systems which use GPS to locate and guide tractors are at the heart of farm automation. Farmers first map the boundaries of their fields either with beacons or a drive around the perimeter. Thereafter a dedicated software plots a route which can then be finetuned by the driver if necessary. Indeed, John Deere says its AutoTrac solution has been evolving for 20 years and the new move builds on these solutions.

The autonomy kit includes six pairs of stereo cameras to get a full view around the tractor, and this combines with machine vision algorithms for a seamless movement and navigation of obstacles by the tractor. The tractor could work for 8 hours on a full tank, and there are humans in the loop, the teleoperators — a call center of third-party contractors.
When the actual models come into circulation, that’s when a full evaluation of the new autonomous tractor could be done. For now, we await the release of the equipment to tie some loose ends like pricing and full specs.

Damon Motors showcases its 170mph HyperFighter Colossus electric motorcycle

CES 2022, the premier consumer technology showcase event saw a lot of innovative offerings. Canadian company Damon Motors is not to be left out of the shindig as it showcased its new lineup of super-fast electric motorcycles called the HyperFighter Colossus line. Back in the summer of 2019, the company had unveiled the prototype of its first electric hypersport motorcycle. The hypersport electric bikes were priced at $40,000 but it is unlikely that the first units have been delivered to customers more than two years after.HyperFighter Colossus electric motorcycle

Damon Motors had claimed that the new electric bikes had received significant interest from Millenials and this latest showcase of its second line seems unaffected by the seeming failure in delivering the first model on schedule. The Damon HyperFighter Colossus is priced at $35,000. It will be the forerunner of two other models in the HyperFighter line. The same design philosophy and foundation will be the building block for the HyperFighter Colossus as with the previous Damon Motors models. Majorly, this includes the HyperDrive powertrain and a structural battery setup.

The target customer base for the HyperFighter Colossus is the streetfighter segment of the market. According to Damon Motors CEO, Jay Giraud, the new motorcycle line will disrupt the streetfighter segment with groundbreaking technology pioneered by the company. The HyperDrive will serve as the nucleus for the rapid innovation that will be part of the HyperFighter Colossus line and the company continues to aim at bringing the most electrifying motorcycles that can be seen in the market.HyperFighter Colossus electric motorcycle

The CoPilot system is a proprietary platform developed by Damon Motors to provide a 360-degree advanced warning system using a combination of several technologies. Damon says the battery of the HyperFighter Colossus offers up 146 miles and it can reach a top speed of 170mph. The next models in the lineup will be scaled-down models that could be sold between $19,000 and $25,000. A $250 refundable deposit will provide the opportunity for pre-orders although it is unclear when the motorcycle will launch. It may also be a difficult task in convincing would-be customers since it has not met its first obligation two years down the line.

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition spotted on Geekbench, TENAA, 3C: To sport Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and 120W charging

The Redmi K50 series is officially confirmed to launch in China next month as revealed earlier by Redmi themselves. However, one Redmi K50 series device, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition in particular, has been recently spotted online several times on various platforms such as benchmarking websites like Geekbench 5 and certification databases like TENAA and 3C certification.

The first source comes from China’s 3C electronics certification database. The 3C certification shows the device’s model number is 21121210C, and that it will come with a staggering 120W fast-charging power adaptor in the box. As usual, the 3C listing doesn’t reveal any other details about the device, but the model number appears again on a TENAA listing, and Geekbench 5.

In Geekbench 5, the Xiaomi 21121210C scored 1226 points in the single-core tests and 3726 in the multi-core tests. These scores are just merely behind the Xiaomi 12 Pro scores, and the test heavily indicates the model is using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under the hood. For context, the Geekbench listing also reveals that the model is sporting an octa-core processor with a 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration, with one performance core at 3.0GHz peak clock frequency. It can be deduced that this is the Cortex-X2 core present in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

The Geekbench results also reveal that the model tested is equipped with 12GB of RAM and is running on Android 12. This further solidifies that the Redmi K50 series will be launched with MIUI 13 on Android 12.

As for why the model number Xiaomi 21121210C was linked to the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is because previous leaks from insiders in China mentioned that the Xiaomi 21121210C is the model number for the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.

In addition to sporting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 120W fast charging, Redmi themselves have also officially confirmed that one of the Redmi K50 devices will be sporting a 4700mAh battery and a Double VC Cooling System inside to keep the performance smooth under intensive workloads.

And that is not all: despite being powered by the most powerful chipset out there, they are even available at great listing prices as they are not among the most affordable phones in the market and they provide a very high value for money. That is the reason why a lot of people with a good knowledge of the actual smartphone market are wondering which one they should buy. This is a comparison between the specifications of the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones.

Design

If you want the cutest design, then I think you should choose the Xiaomi 12. First of all, its dimensions are a lot more compact. Further, the design of the camera isle is somewhat very modern and well-made. The handset is thinner than the Motorola Edge X30 and it has a higher screen to body ratio: two other added values for a device like this. The Motorola Edge X30 has a water repellent coating which may turn useful under the rain and in other situations, while the Xiaomi 12 has more resistant glasses thanks to the protection provided by Gorilla Glass Victus by Corning.

Display

The specifications of these displays are very similar on paper, but the Motorola Edge X30 offers something more for those users who want more. With its wider diagonal of 6.7 inches, the Motorola Edge X30 is a better option for gaming and productivity, while the Xiaomi 12 has a very compact display and it is not the best for the ones who play advanced games and work with their phones. Further, the Motorola Edge X30 has a higher 144 Hz refresh rate which provides a smoother viewing experience. For the rest, these displays do not differ too much: they are OLED panels with one billion colors, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and the HDR10+ certification.

Specs & Software

As already mentioned, these phones are fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform, and for this reason, they are two of the fastest and most powerful phones in the whole Android world. In both cases, they provide up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. They both run Android 12 but are customized by different user interfaces. Note that the Xiaomi 12 has an in-display fingerprint reader, while the Motorola Edge X30 has a side-mounted scanner which is less comfortable.

Camera

The Motorola Edge X30 is a better camera phone and this is its biggest pro if compared to the Xiaomi 12. It is equipped with two rear cameras sporting a 50 MP resolution and an additional 2 MP macro camera. The 50 MP ultrawide camera is what makes the difference, as well as its amazing 60 MP front camera making it one of the best phones to shoot selfies. It is worth mentioning that there is a special edition of the Edge X30 with an under-display front camera.

Battery

Thanks to its bigger dimensions, the Motorola Edge X30 has room for a bigger battery: with a capacity of 5000 mAh, it offers 500 mAh more if compared to the Xiaomi 12 and it is able to last more on a single charge. The Xiaomi 12 has a smaller battery, but it supports wireless charging, unlike its opponent. And we are talking about very fast wireless charging technology, thanks to 50W power.

Price

The starting price of the Xiaomi 12 in China roughly translates into €510/$580 at the actual change, while the Motorola Edge X30 begins at €420/$480. The Motorola Edge X30 wins this comparison thanks to better cameras and a bigger battery, as well as a wider display. But you should note the Xiaomi 12 is currently the most compact last-generation flagship with Android.

After seeing the back of the OnePlus 10 Pro for almost weeks, OnePlus finally gave the tech world something new and fresh to admire. This morning, OnePlus China could not resist the urge anymore and decided to reveal the OnePlus 10 Pro in all of its glory in its official Weibo post.

From the poster shared, the OnePlus 10 Pro seems to feature a dual-curved screen with very narrow bezels on both sides, as well as the chin and the top. Compared to the OnePlus 9 Pro, it seems that the curves on the OnePlus 10 Pro seem to be more muted in the poster and the screen-to-body ratio on the 10 Pro seems to be larger than the 9 Pro. The hole-punch stills remain in the top left corner, same as last year as well.

OnePlus will be unveiling the OnePlus 10 Pro flagship phone on Jan. 11 in China and Pete Lau, the founder of OnePlus, has revealed many of its features prior to the launch event.

Sony patent 3D Scanner that adds Real-World Items Into games & VR

The Japanese tech giant Sony recently unveiled the PlayStation VR2 at CES 2022 and provided some of its specs along with some in-game footage showcasing its functionalities. And now, a new patent has surfaced revealing a 3D Scanner that might allow gamers to put real-world items into video games and VR spaces.

According to a report by GameRant, the patent was initially submitted to the patent office back in June of 2021, however, Sony has had to resubmit it with adjustments due to conflicts with other patents.

sony 3D scanner patent

In a figure provided in the patent, we can observe that the upcoming tech will allow users to scan real-life objects, which can then be rendered into the virtual space. Sony has not mentioned any explicit use of the technology. Still, some possible applications can be using it in VR games to render real-life items into the game, uses in the evergrowing metaverse to generate your real-life possessions into the virtual space, and even a tool for animators and game developers which could potentially make their jobs a lot easier.

Readers should note that the patent has not been granted to sony yet therefore we might have to wait for a while before this technology is made available.

Huawei’s New Beitong Smart Gaming Controller is now available in China, functions as a TV remote as well

Huawei is diversifying its product catalog with its Matebook laptops, MatePad tablets and Vision Smart Screen TVs. And now Huawei has an official gaming controller for its belt, called the Beitong Smart Gaming Controller.

Huawei-beitong-gaming-controller-promo

The Beitong Smart Wireless Gaming Controller is designed to be an accessory to the Huawei Vision Smart Screens TVs, and therefore the controller has been engineered with large screen gaming in mind.

For starters, when gaming on a big screen, a wireless controller is preferred as you don’t have to worry about tripping cables on the ground or the cable accidentally being pulled out of the port during an intense gaming session. Another advantage of wireless over wired controllers is the flexibility it provides. To illustrate, instead of being just confined to the couch, gamers can now follow the movements of the gaming action on screen without worrying about the cables being tangled, since it is a wireless controller!

However, one con among many wireless controllers is their high latency. Huawei solves the problem by equipping the Beitong Smart Wireless Gaming Controller with improved hardware inside that can provide up to 8ms super-low latency. This was achieved with Beitong’s new innovative wireless communication modem that utilises both 2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 to ensure that when gaming, the controls information will be relayed in the fastest lane if one of the 2 connections becomes congested.

Besides local gaming, the Beitong Smart Wireless Gaming Controller has also been optimised for cloud gaming and online gaming as well. With its brand new “EXTRA RAPID PRO” Smart Engine, the controller can now optimise itself to provide the lowest latency possible it can with its hardware and with the server.

Another highlight is that it supports the Huawei Smart Life app available in the Huawei App Gallery. In the app, you are able to adjust the controls, vibration and sensitivity of the controller, plus another option to use the controller as a TV remote when you are not using it during gaming.

The Huawei Beitong Smart Wireless Gaming Controller is available for sale in China for 249 RMB (~USD 40) starting from 8 January onwards.

Realme to enter the US market in 2022, but don’t expect phones

Realme has been growing rapidly since its inception. The insane growth of the company is backed by new markets and sales. In fact, it is currently the fastest-growing smartphone brand even without the presence in the largest consumer market – the United States.  The firm plans to change this in 2022.

Realme GT NEO logo featured Review

In an interview with Android Authority, Realme’s Madhav Sheth has confirmed that the brand will enter the US market this year. Unfortunately, the executive did not provide a timeline.

However, he did confirm certain details, which may not be good news for the fans in the states. Because just like Xiaomi, Realme will not be bringing its smartphones to the United States.

Instead, the company is planning to release IT and AIoT products. We can expect the firm to launch products like streaming devices, robot vacuums, truly wireless earphones, smartwatches, power banks, and others.

The US is a tough market for any brand to sell smartphones. Most sales in this market happen through carriers and they have more power over manufacturers. Above all, Realme is a Chinese company, which makes it even tough.

So far, only a few Chinese companies have managed to sell phones in the United States successfully. One of them is Realme’s sifter brand – Oneplus. Perhaps, Realme might crack the formula one day.
