Xiaomi recently just announced its Xiaomi 12 series in its December Flagship Launch Event. It announced the Xiaomi 12X, its budget Flagship sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 Chipset, and its fully-fledged flagships, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, both sporting the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under the hood.
Besides the higher base clock, greater CPU and GPU performance, one thing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offers over the Snapdragon 870 is its support for 64-bit applications. This is because of the newer ARMv9 architecture present on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which includes the newer ARM Cortex A510 and Cortex X2 cores that run on 64-bit instruction sets.
One of Xiaomi China’s official spokespersons, Cici_Laowei on Weibo, shared that with the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro supporting 64-bit applications, here’s how you can upgrade your current 32-bit applications to its 64-bit counterpart.
Step 1
First, open up your Xiaomi App Gallery, then select “Application Upgrade” on the left of the app gallery’s starting page.
Step 2
Next, you should see a 64-bit sticker next to the app(in the example below, the Starbucks app now has a 64-bit version to be upgraded) and you may now select to upgrade the available apps to 64-bit with a simple click.
Step 3
Xiaomi also mentions why you should upgrade your apps to 64-bit is because the 64-bit versions consume less battery compared to the 32-bit versions of the app.
Xiaomi’s Cici Laowei on Weibo sharing her Xiaomi 12 endurance with 64 bit apps
Xiaomi’s Cici_Laowei shared that after upgrading to 64-bit, her Xiaomi 12’s battery life had a massive boost. From 9 am till night, the Xiaomi 12 lasted her throughout the day with 25% battery left to spare. Her detailed usage was 5 hours and 31 minutes of screen on time(SOT) and a usage time of 13 hours and 29 minutes.

Note that the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro are now available on Giztop for $699 and $899 respectively.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google’s vice president for Android, Chrome OS, Play, Photos, and Chrome, has tossed perhaps the harshest remarks at Apple yet for its iMessage policy. Accusing Apple of using iMessage to sell more iPhones, he linked the strategy to promoting bullying and peer pressure.
The comments come in the form of a tweet that shared a Wall Street Journal article about iMessage’s dominance and how it has led youngsters that own Androids to feel alienated from their iOS counterparts:
Apple’s iMessage lock-in is a documented strategy. Using peer pressure and bullying as a way to sell products is disingenuous for a company that has humanity and equity as a core part of its marketing. The standards exist today to fix this. https://t.co/MiQqMUOrgn
The “documented strategy” the VP is likely referring to is a 2016 email from Apple’s Phil Schiller that recently came to light during the legal tussle with Epic, where the executive expressed that “moving iMessage to Android will hurt us more than help us.”
A similar comment was also made by Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple: “iMessage on Android would simply serve to remove an obstacle to iPhone families giving their kids Android phones.”
Lockheimer’s comments are a part of the mounting barrage from Google against Apple for its refusal to adopt the RCS standard.
RCS or Rich Communication Services is Google’s answer to iMessage and aims to modernize SMS with features we have grown used to on various chat apps like typing indicators, read receipts, high-quality photos, and more.
iMessage should not benefit from bullying. Texting should bring us together, and the solution exists. Let’s fix this as one industry. 💚💙 https://t.co/18k8RNGQw4
If Apple opens up the walled garden iMessage is currently to Google Messages, the Google executive insinuates it would reduce the pressure on teens to get an iPhone. iMessage has become a must-have tool for teens in the US, failure to use which does result in bullying, just as the WSJ report says.
Not only that but iPhones and Androids will finally be able to communicate with each other in perfect harmony without having to worry about security. Currently, chats on iMessage are only encrypted when there’s an iPhone at both ends. But when an Android user comes into the picture, chat bubbles turn green and security risks begin to creep in.
Sure, in countries like the US, the green bubble situation isn’t that common of an occurrence considering a whopping 87% of teens own an iPhone. But elsewhere, Android users outnumber Apple users 3 to 1, and the lack of proper compatibility between RCS and iMessage means it’s near impossible to fully secure messaging on iMessage.
At the end of the Xiaomi 11i series launch live stream, the company teased the arrival of yet another 120W fast-charging smartphone dubbed as ‘The HyperPhone’. Today, the firm has officially revealed the handset and its launch date for India.
The upcoming ‘Xiaomi HyperPhone’ is nothing but the Xiaomi 11T Pro, just like we expected. This smartphone has been confirmed to launch in India on January 19.
For the unaware, the Xiaomi 11T Pro was unveiled alongside the Xiaomi 11T in mid-September 2021. It debuted as the first handset with 120W fast charging outside mainland China. Nearly four months after its initial release, the phone is finally set to make its way to India.
Although we know everything about this device, Xiaomi India has a dedicated page on its website, which will be disclosing the key features of the phone in the coming days.
Apart from 120W fast charging, the Xiaomi 11T Pro also features other interesting specs. These include Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, 6.6-inch FHD+ 120Hz 10-bit AMOLED display with Dolby Vision, and Gorilla Glass Victus.
Other features include 108MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide) + 5MP (telemacro) triple camera setup on the rear, 16MP selfie camera, Dolby Atomos-supported dual stereo speakers tuned by Harmon Kardon, MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11, and 5,000mAh battery.
A new report has just revealed that Tencent Group is planning on buying the Black Shark brand and integrating it with its own Content Business Group. The move from the company arrives as it apparently plans to step into the Metaverse.
The news arrives from 36Kr and multiple independent sources who stated that the Chinese tech giant aims on acquiring the gaming smartphone maker. It adds that the gaming smartphone making company will also undergo a business transformation after the acquisition process is complete. In other words, Black Shark as a brand would likely see an expansion once the transaction is completed.
This diversification process will reportedly grow to include VR (Virtual Reality) based technologies and devices. So, the software content for VR will be provided by Tencent while Black Shark manufactures the hardware. For those unaware, the gaming smartphone brand is a relatively young company that was established back in 2017 and was backed by another Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi. As of right now, Xiaomi is the majority shareholder, holding around 46.4 percent stake in Black Shark. Unfortunately, Tencent has yet to official comment on this news at the moment.
Although, with tech companies moving towards the AR/VR field, especially after the introduction of the Metaverse, it was only a matter of time before the Chinese company would also make its move. Back in Q3 2021, the brand had even filed for a number of trademarks for technologies for the Metaverse. While the company has yet to confirm this news, it makes sense that the group would seek out an experienced brand that has its own facilities for R&D and manufacturing to build a platform through which its content can be accessed.
This isn’t something new either, since Facebook had previously acquired Oculus in the past to fill up the hardware gap in its plans to provide both VR content along with the devices that allows you to access the VR world. Another source added that Tencent was likely in contact with all AR/VR related projects on the market, such as HTC. But since the group is known for a number of its popular gaming titles in the market, it isn’t odd that it chose Black Shark. Both brands have also previously partnered up for the latter’s gaming smartphones as well.

As the name indicates, in the always-on display feature, the screen remains active on the device during sleep mode, making it easy for the users to check time as well as some other important information and notifications without having to unlock the phone.
In a recent teaser, the brand had revealed the front design of the upcoming smartphone, showcasing that it features minimal bezels, rounded corners, and a single punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner of the screen.
The device has also been confirmed to be the first to come pre-installed with OPPO’s latest ColorOS 12.1 in the Chinese market. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 80W SuperVOOC wired charging 50W AirVOOC wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging.
As for the camera department, the phone will have a second-generation Hasselblad camera module on the back panel, consisting of a 48-megapixel lens, a 50-megapixel sensor, and an 8-megapixel sensor for the triple-camera setup. On the front side, it will be equipped with a 32-megapixel selfie snapper.
To know more about this flagship smartphone in terms of specs and features, as well as its pricing and availability details, we will have to wait for a few more hours for the official launch event tomorrow.

OPPO A16k specifications
The poster further reveals that the OPPO A16k has a 6.52-inch LCD panel with a waterdrop notch. It will offer an HD+ resolution and an eye care feature that will probably protect eyes from harmful blue light emitted by the screen. The device will run on Android 11, which is likely to be overlaid with ColorOS 11.1.
The device will offer users a 13-megapixel camera with an LED flash on the back. The frontside of the phone features a 5-megapixel snapper. It is backed by a 4,230mAh battery that supports 10W charging. It will be sporting a slim design measuring only 7.8mm in thickness. The device lacks a fingerprint scanner.
While the A16k is a new phone for India, it has already launched in the Philippines back in November 2020. The A16k is likely to feature the Helio G35 chip.
Xiaomi is reportedly working on the Xiaomi MIX 5 series of flagship phones. The lineup may include two models such as Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro. A fresh report claims that the Pro model could be equipped with the Surge C2 ISP.
The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro have respective shortened model numbers such as L1A and L1. Xiaomi offered its first Surge ISP called the Surge C1 with the Xiaomi MIX Fold last year. According to Xiaomiui, the “MIPISEL” feature has been found in the Mi code of the MIX 5 Pro. It relates to the Surge C1 chip, which was found on the MIX Fold and the company’s unannounced flip phone. The MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro are likely to differ in two departments: camera sensors and camera processor.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 4
The report states that the second-generation Surge C2 ISP or the existing Surge C1 could be made available on the MIX 5 Pro. It further states that the MIX 5 may feature the Surge C1 chip. At present, there are no details available on the features of the C2.
To recollect, the Surge C1 controlled the multi-functional telephoto camera that was coupled with the liquid-lens technology on the MIX Fold. The 3A algorithm of the Surge C1 regulated autofocus, automatic white balance, and automatic exposure simultaneously. It assisted MIX Fold users to capture better shots in low-light conditions.
Xiaomi MIX 5, MIX 5 Pro camera details
The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro will have a 48-megapixel front-facing camera. The MIX 5’s rear camera setup will have an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel (8192 x 6144 pixels resolution) main camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 48-megapixel camera with 2x optical zoom. On the other side, the MIX 5 Pro will have an OIS-ready 50-megapixel (8192 x 6144 pixels resolution) primary camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, and an OIS-assisted 48-megapixel lens with 5x optical zoom.
The resolution of 8192 x 6144 pixels resolution is associated with 50-megapixel Sony sensors such as IMX766 and IMX707. Hence, the MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro models may come equipped with these camera sensors.
Last year, OnePlus was merged with OPPO and the company’s founder and CEO Pete Lau rejoined OPPO as a Chief Product Officer along with continuing with his existing role of being the chief executive officer at OnePlus.
Today, Pete Lau has announced that Li Jie will be the President of OnePlus China and he will be responsible for the company’s operation in the Chinese market.
Li Jie, President of OnePlus China
Li Jie had joined OPPO in the year 2010 and during his 11 years of working at OPPO, he has played many roles, ranging from product planning for the Find series smartphones, including strategic planning of hardware, and product roadmap. He also served as the Head of User Operations for the company in China.
He says that he aims to act as a bridge between OnePlus and its customers to better convert the voice of the customers to his team. He is also hoping to provide better products and services to expand the brand’s footprints.
The development comes at a time when the company is gearing up to launch its next-generation flagship smartphones under the OnePlus 10 lineup. It has already started taking pre-orders for the OnePlus 10 Pro, which is set to officially launch on 11th January in the Chinese market. If the reports are to be believed, then the global release of the device could take place sometime around March or April.
Xiaomi has already teased the upcoming Redmi K50 series smartphones and has also confirmed that the devices will go official in the month of February. As the name indicates, the phones will launch as a successor to the Redmi K40 lineup.
Now, ahead of the official launch, a render of the Redmi K50 Pro has surfaced online, showcasing the phone’s design. Also, we have exclusive images of the phone’s case, which is in line with the leaked renders, confirming the phone’s design.
The leaked render of the Redmi K50 Pro reveals that the smartphone will come with a single punch-hole cutout in the top-center position and the display will have rounded corners, similar to the phone’s body.
On the back, the device will have a camera module placed in the top-left corner. The black-colored square section will hold the three camera sensors in a triangular format and a silver-colored rectangular section will house the LED flash. The render also reveals that there will be a 64-megapixel primary camera sensor.
We have exclusive images of the transparent silicone case for the Redmi K50 Pro smartphone which, as mentioned above, is in line with the leaked render. This pretty much confirms this to be the phone’s final design.
As for the specifications, it is said that the 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary sensor will be coupled with a 13-megapixel OV13B10 ultra-wide angle lens. The third sensor could be a 2-megapixel GC02M1 or an 8-megapixel OV08A10 macro lens. It could feature a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the smartphone will come powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. It will also feature a dual VC liquid-cooled heat dissipation unit with a large surface area.
The company has revealed that the device will be powered by a 4,700mAh battery and will have support for 120W fast charging which can fully charge the device within 17 minutes. We expect the phone to come running the latest Android 12 operating system with the newly released MIUI 13 custom user interface.
Apple has an affordable iPhone in the form of iPhone SE and the company is now gearing up to launch a third-generation model. Ahead of the device getting official, several details have already been leaked online.
Now, a new report claims that the new Apple iPhone SE, which is said to come with support for 5G connectivity, could go official sometime in March or April this year at an Apple event.
According to the report from Mark Gurman in Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple is expected to host its first major event of this year sometime in March or April, and similar to previous events, this one will also be conducted virtually.
Reports indicate that the upcoming iPhone SE could get launched at this upcoming event from the tech giant and will apparently be the focus of the event. Apple has a track record of launching new products at an event in March or April so the event is likely to happen.
Based on the previous leaks and reports, the iPhone SE 2022 will be similar to the model available right now in terms of design but will arrive with better specifications. It will look like an iPhone 8 but will feature upgrades in terms of internals.
The phone is expected to come with a 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD display and will also feature a Home button with a fingerprint sensor embedded. It is likely to be the last Apple smartphone to come packed with an LCD display panel and a home button.
It will be powered by the Apple A15 processor along with 3GB of RAM while there could also be a Plus variant that will pack 4GB of RAM. The chipset also brings support for 5G connectivity to the phone. There will still be a 12-megapixel single camera sensor on the back with improved photography features.
The autonomous vehicle transformation is fast catching up with the agricultural sector with the announcement by John Deere of an autonomous tractor. Agricultural automation has been improving gradually over the years and this is certainly a milestone in the sector.
Agricultural equipment maker John Deere says the fully autonomous tractor combines machine learning with the company’s GPS-powered auto-steer features in its operation. The tractor allows the farmer to remotely monitor the equipment while also engaged in other activities. This means the farmer can take his hands off the wheel of the tractor, leave the cab completely or be elsewhere and still have the tractor do his bidding using his smartphone.
John Deere has reiterated that the autonomous tractor is not a demo and production will commence this fall. The company says it is not a concept machine and had been under development for several years.
John Deere has been at the heart of the silent transformation in agricultural automation, with several tailor-made solutions to different aspects of the agricultural ecosystem. Auto-steer systems which use GPS to locate and guide tractors are at the heart of farm automation. Farmers first map the boundaries of their fields either with beacons or a drive around the perimeter. Thereafter a dedicated software plots a route which can then be finetuned by the driver if necessary. Indeed, John Deere says its AutoTrac solution has been evolving for 20 years and the new move builds on these solutions.
The autonomy kit includes six pairs of stereo cameras to get a full view around the tractor, and this combines with machine vision algorithms for a seamless movement and navigation of obstacles by the tractor. The tractor could work for 8 hours on a full tank, and there are humans in the loop, the teleoperators — a call center of third-party contractors.
When the actual models come into circulation, that’s when a full evaluation of the new autonomous tractor could be done. For now, we await the release of the equipment to tie some loose ends like pricing and full specs.
CES 2022, the premier consumer technology showcase event saw a lot of innovative offerings. Canadian company Damon Motors is not to be left out of the shindig as it showcased its new lineup of super-fast electric motorcycles called the HyperFighter Colossus line. Back in the summer of 2019, the company had unveiled the prototype of its first electric hypersport motorcycle. The hypersport electric bikes were priced at $40,000 but it is unlikely that the first units have been delivered to customers more than two years after.
Damon Motors had claimed that the new electric bikes had received significant interest from Millenials and this latest showcase of its second line seems unaffected by the seeming failure in delivering the first model on schedule. The Damon HyperFighter Colossus is priced at $35,000. It will be the forerunner of two other models in the HyperFighter line. The same design philosophy and foundation will be the building block for the HyperFighter Colossus as with the previous Damon Motors models. Majorly, this includes the HyperDrive powertrain and a structural battery setup.
The target customer base for the HyperFighter Colossus is the streetfighter segment of the market. According to Damon Motors CEO, Jay Giraud, the new motorcycle line will disrupt the streetfighter segment with groundbreaking technology pioneered by the company. The HyperDrive will serve as the nucleus for the rapid innovation that will be part of the HyperFighter Colossus line and the company continues to aim at bringing the most electrifying motorcycles that can be seen in the market.
The CoPilot system is a proprietary platform developed by Damon Motors to provide a 360-degree advanced warning system using a combination of several technologies. Damon says the battery of the HyperFighter Colossus offers up 146 miles and it can reach a top speed of 170mph. The next models in the lineup will be scaled-down models that could be sold between $19,000 and $25,000. A $250 refundable deposit will provide the opportunity for pre-orders although it is unclear when the motorcycle will launch. It may also be a difficult task in convincing would-be customers since it has not met its first obligation two years down the line.
The Redmi K50 series is officially confirmed to launch in China next month as revealed earlier by Redmi themselves. However, one Redmi K50 series device, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition in particular, has been recently spotted online several times on various platforms such as benchmarking websites like Geekbench 5 and certification databases like TENAA and 3C certification.
The first source comes from China’s 3C electronics certification database. The 3C certification shows the device’s model number is 21121210C, and that it will come with a staggering 120W fast-charging power adaptor in the box. As usual, the 3C listing doesn’t reveal any other details about the device, but the model number appears again on a TENAA listing, and Geekbench 5.
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition found on 3C database.
In Geekbench 5, the Xiaomi 21121210C scored 1226 points in the single-core tests and 3726 in the multi-core tests. These scores are just merely behind the Xiaomi 12 Pro scores, and the test heavily indicates the model is using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under the hood. For context, the Geekbench listing also reveals that the model is sporting an octa-core processor with a 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration, with one performance core at 3.0GHz peak clock frequency. It can be deduced that this is the Cortex-X2 core present in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

The Geekbench results also reveal that the model tested is equipped with 12GB of RAM and is running on Android 12. This further solidifies that the Redmi K50 series will be launched with MIUI 13 on Android 12.
As for why the model number Xiaomi 21121210C was linked to the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is because previous leaks from insiders in China mentioned that the Xiaomi 21121210C is the model number for the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.

The brilliant strategy of releasing a Dragon Ball Z Limited Edition of its already popular Realme GT Neo2 worked out excellently as the reception from Realme and Dragon Ball fans alike made all 5000 units of the smartphone sell out within its first sale. And by overwhelming demand, Realme has decided to launch a second flash sale of the Realme GT Neo2 Dragon Ball Z edition soon on January 10 at 12 am CST at its official Realme China online store, its official Tmall store, and at the Oppo China online store.
Specs-wise, the Dragon Ball Z Limited Edition is identical to the original Realme GT Neo2. Under the hood, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset with a large 5000 mAh battery. Juicing up the battery is Realme’s in-house 65W SuperDart Charging that can take the phone from 0% to 100% in an hour. For multimedia consumption, buyers will be glad to hear that the phone is equipped with a 6.62” E4 120Hz Samsung AMOLED display with dual stereo speakers to boot.
The main difference between the Dragon Ball Z Limited Edition and the normal GT Neo2 is its design and what comes inside the box. Design-wise, the new Dragon Ball Z limited edition equips the Realme GT Neo2 with a glass back design with an orange matte finish, with matte blue stripes and blue metal side rails. The design is very reminiscent of the overalls that the main character of the shonen anime, Goku, was wearing during his battles against evils.
