JioBook key specifications emerge through Geekbench listing

Back in March, XDA Developers revealed that Jio is working on a low-cost notebook named the JioBook. It appears that the company could be internally testing its performance as it has appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking site (via) today.

Recently, variants of the JioBook with model numbers such as NB1118QMW, NB1148QMW, and NB1112MM were spotted at the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) authority. The NB1112MM model has now appeared at Geekbench with some of its key specs.

JioBook MediaTek

The listing shows that the JioBook notebook with NB1112MM model number is powered by the MediaTek MT6788 chipset and 2 GB of RAM. It was found running on Android 11. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the device scored 1178 and 4246 points, respectively.

XDA’s report had revealed that the JioBook’s display will offer an HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The screen size of the device is not known yet. The report revealed that the notebook will be powered by the Snapdragon 665 chipset, which will come equipped with a Snapdragon X12 modem for 4G connectivity.

The JioBook’s base model is expected to arrive with 2 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 32 GB of eMMC storage. Its higher variant may include 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.

Apart from 4G LTE, JioBook is expected to offer connectivity features like dual-band Wi-Fi and HDMI. It goes without saying the device will be equipped with Jio apps such as JioStore, JioPages, and JioMeet. It is expected also include Microsoft apps such as Edge, Office, and Teams. The existence of the MediaTek model indicates that there could be multiple SoC variants of the JioBook.

realme GT Master Explorer Edition gets realme UI 3.0 Early Access update

Smartphone brand realme announced realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12 in mid-October. It is a tweaked version of ColorOS 12, which went official a month earlier. So far, users could experience the software on a single device called realme GT. But not anymore, as the brand has now begun to recruit testers for realme GT Master Explorer Edition.

realme GT Master Explorer Edition realme UI 3.0 Android 12

The realme GT Master Explorer Edition is a China-exclusive smartphone. It has become the second device to be part of the realme UI 3.0 Early Access program after realme GT.

According to the official announcement post on realme Community, the company had opened registrations for recruitment yesterday at 11:30 AM (local time). It will continue to recruit testers until its selects 700 applicants.

In other words, there’s no deadline to participate. However, since it is FCFS-based (first come, first serve), it is better to register sooner than later if you happen to own this handset and want to desperately try out realme’s take on Android 12.

As usual, realme asks applicants to back up data before installing the update, which is pushed within a day from the selection. It also recommends having at least 10GB of free space. Finally, the phone should not be rooted and battery capacity should be above 60%.

At present, it is not known when this handset will get access to the stable update.

The Watch GT Runner moniker was spotted at the Bluetooth SIG certification site last month. The listing revealed support for Bluetooth 5.2. Last month, Huawei announced the Watch GT 3 in the UK. Hence, it is likely that the company also announce the Watch GT 3 alongside the GT Runner on Nov. 17 in China.

It was reported at the beginning of this month that Huawei’s next smartwatch will be able to measure blood pressure. It is unclear whether the Watch GT Runner has a blood pressure tracker.

OPPO once again recruits ColorOS 12 Beta testers for Find X3, OnePlus 9 series

Ahead of the ColorOS 12 announcement in mid-September, OPPO kickstarted an early access program for its flagship smartphones, namely OPPO Find X3, OPPO Find X3 Pro, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9 Pro. A few weeks later, these phones got access to public beta builds in early October. Now, a little over a month later, the company is recruiting even more testers before the stable release.

OPPO Find X3 Pro OnePlus 9 Pro Featured A

According to the ColorOS Assistant Weibo account, OPPO has once again opened ColorOS 12 public beta registrations for its premium smartphones in China yesterday. The registrations will close at 12 PM today (November 12).

In order to enroll, users should be on the following firmware versions.

  • OPPO Find X3 Pro Mars Explorer Edition – A.28
  • OPPO Find X3 Pro – A.28
  • OPPO Find X3 – A.30
  • OnePlus 9 Pro – A.12
  • OnePlus 9 – A.12

As per the schedule shared by the company a few days back, these handsets will get access to the stable update on November 25. Hence, users need not wait longer to experience new ColorOS features and Android 12.

Anyway, like any other software update, this one will be also rolled out in batches. Therefore, the rollout will most likely continue till at least mid-December.

This rebranded HUAWEI nova 8 Pro is no longer available

Last week, an interesting device called TD Tech N8 Pro went official in China. This smartphone is nothing but a rebadged HUAWEI nova 8 Pro with 5G connectivity and different software. In fact, Huawei itself listed this phone on its official stores across eCommerce platforms. However, for some reason, this handset has been now delisted from everywhere within days of its launch.

TD Tech N8 Pro Featured A
TD Tech N8 Pro

According to a report by ITHome, the TD Tech N8 Pro is no longer listed anywhere online. Hence, the publication says that the smartphone has been discontinued. But unfortunately, we don’t have any proof for the device’s discontinuation.

Huawei’s smartphone business is in turmoil ever since the company was added to the entity list by the US government. With the subsequent sanctions, the firm had to even sell its sub-brand HONOR.

Since the once world’s largest smartphone company can now no longer sell phones with 5G connectivity, it has been providing its hardware to other companies, which have licenses to trade 5G handsets.

The TD Tech N8 Pro is one of these phones. As mentioned earlier, this device is a HUAWEI nova 8 Pro inside out. But since it is from a different firm theoretically, it has 5G connectivity.

On the other hand, the now independent HONOR brand registered immense growth last quarter in China. But sadly, the future of Huawei’s smartphone business is not bright at all.

Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE vs Realme GT Master Edition: Specs Comparison

If you are looking for a complete mid-ranger with specifications suitable for gaming and close to the high-end segment, you have two amazing choices in the global market with a price tag of around €300. We are talking about the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE and the Realme GT Master Edition: these two handsets are the perfect rivals of the midrange segment and they can replace flagships for most of the users. But which one is worth going for, given that the prices are very similar? We decided to highlight the differences between these two models in a comparison between their specifications.

Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE vs Realme GT Master Edition

32 MP f/2.5 front camera
BATTERY 4250 mAh, fast charging 33W 4300 mAh, fast charging 65W
ADDITIONAL FEATURES Dual SIM slot, 5G Dual SIM slot, 5G

Design

The Realme GT Master Edition comes in a special color variant designed by the known Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa and sports a leather back with a texture that reminds of a suitcase. This Voyager Gray color option is definitely one of the most beautiful and unique designs in the midrange segment, and I would prefer this device for this reason. But you should not underestimate the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE: with a thickness of just 6.8 mm, it is one of the thinnest last-generation phones and even one of the most lightweight ones. Further, it has the IP53 certification making it dust resistant and splash resistant.

Display

On the paper, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE sports the most advanced display. Its AMOLED panel has a diagonal of 6.55 inches and it is able to show up to one billion colors. It sports the HDR10+ certification, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision enhancing the image quality. The Realme GT Master Edition has a higher 120 Hz refresh rate and it is more interesting for gamers, but it does not show one billion colors and it does not support HDR10 and Dolby Vision, that is the reason why Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE should provide a superior image quality. Note that Realme GT Master Edition has an in-display fingerprint reader, while Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE does not. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is the only one with stereo speakers.

Specs & Software

The hardware departments of Realme GT Master Edition and Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE include a Snapdragon 778G mobile platform with a max frequency of 2.4 GHz, good for gamers and advanced users, but not a flagship chipset. The Realme GT Master Edition wins the hardware comparison because it offers up to 12 GB of RAM, while Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE has a max of 8 GB of RAM. Naturally, this applies only if you choose the most expensive variant of the Realme GT Master Edition. Both the phones run Android 11 with a highly customized user interface on top, and they have fast UFS storage.

Camera

The Realme GT Master Edition and the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE are more or less at the same level when it comes to the rear cameras. The only difference in terms of hardware is the macro camera: you get just 2 MP with the former and a 5 MP telephoto macro lens with the latter. On the other hand, the Realme GT Master Edition has a better front camera with a resolution of 32 MP.

Battery

The Realme GT Master Edition has a slightly bigger battery with a capacity of 4300 mAh and, alongside its smaller display, it should guarantee a slightly longer battery life. Last but not least, it features a faster charging technology with a power of 65W.

Price

In the European market, you can find both Realme GT Master Edition and Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE with starting prices of €299/$343, which naturally raise if you choose higher-end configurations. I personally prefer the Realme GT Master Edition due to its faster charging technology and original design in its leather version, but Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE provides a better display, as well as the IP53 certification, powerful stereo speakers, and a sleeker body. Which one would you pick?

Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE vs Realme GT Master Edition: PRO and CONS

Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE

PRO

  • Better display
  • Thinner and lighter
  • Wider screen
  • IP53 certification

CONS

  • Inferior front camera

Realme GT Master Edition

PRO

  • Unique leather design
  • Better front camera
  • 120 Hz refresh rate
  • Faster charging

CONS

Motorola Edge X/ Edge 30 Ultra 5k renders surfaced ahead of official release

A couple of days back, Motorola teased the Edge X smartphone in the Chinese market hinting at an imminent launch. Rumours are also rife for another Edge series smartphone dubbed the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. Now, leaks reveal that the Edge 30 Ultra won’t actually be a new device rather it may be a rebadged model of China’s Edge X smartphone. In addition, 91Mobiles in collaboration with OnLeaks has shared 5k renders of the device.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

The Motorola Edge X a.k.a the Edge 30 Ultra sports a modern design. The device has a large 6.6-inch flat display with a punch-hole cut-out at the top. It seems to have thin bezels all around the edges and may have a 144Hz screen refresh rate. The screen is touted to be an OLED panel with HDR10+ support.

As for the cameras, the smartphone boasts a triple camera system placed vertically at the rear. It is said to be a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP secondary lens, and lastly a 2MP tertiary lens. Upfront, it has a 60MP selfie snapper.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

The device has a Motorola branding at the back but it does not double up as a fingerprint scanner. Rather, Motorola seems to have employed an in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone has a USB Type-C port at the bottom and a speaker grille beside it. It has a power button on the right side and a volume rocker on the left. Unfortunately, the phone does not seem to have a 3.5mm headphone jack, as per the renders.

Apart from this, what’s inside will be a new SoC – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset. It will be paired with 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The smartphone will pack a 5,000mAh battery and is expected to have fast charging support.

Google rolls out Adaptive Sound feature on the Pixel 6 in waves

Google has silently rolled out its adaptive sound feature to some of its Pixel 6 devices. The feature that was once thought exclusive to the Pixel 5, directed towards compensating for its disappointing under-screen speaker performance, is now coming to the Pixel 6 series.

Google Adaptive sound

The feature was discovered by @MishaalRahman who noticed it while scrolling through the settings menu of his Pixel 6. This technology works by utilizing the device microphone to access the surrounding audio and noise levels, adjusting the equalizer, resulting in a better, clearer sound.

With the Pixel 5, the feature was observed to work nicely when the speaker audio output was kept anywhere between 40% to 80% of its maximum capacity. Beyond that, the difference was hard to notice.

The adaptive sound feature was also introduced in the Pixel 4a 5G which came out in September of last year and the Google Pixel Buds, but the buds only offer some adjustments in noise cancellation and tweak the volume levels according to the surrounding noise.

It is yet too early to say how the feature will perform on the Pixel 6 series devices. As more devices receive the update, we would have a clearer picture of this quirky feature.

Xiaomi’s wearable sales exceed 2 million units just 30 minutes into the 11.11 campaign

Xiaomi’s wearable brand has proved to be very popular right from the Mi Band 2 to the smartwatch era. A recent report by Canalys showed that the brand surpassed Apple in Q2 2021 to emerge as the number one wearable brand globally. While that may not last for too long considering it was after the release of the Apple Watch Series 7, it shows how far the brand has come in the wearable market.

Xiaomi’s wearables continue to make waves in the market and this year’s Single’s festival (11.11) is yet another opportunity to prove that. Data released by the company shows that it sold over two million wearable devices just 30 minutes into the 11.11 campaign.

On Jingdogn (JD.com), Xiaomi’s most-popular wearable devices include the Redmi Watch 2, Mi Rabbit Children’s Phone Watch 5C, Mi Watch Color 2 among others. OnePlus to pay for medical expenses of Nord 2 explosion victim, Refunds amount

On November, 3 a OnePlus Nord 2 unit exploded inside a victim’s jeans in India’s Dhule. This was the second time such an incident had happened with this particular model. A Twitter user close to the victim tweeted about the trauma he suffered and warned OnePlus of further consequences.

In an update regarding the case, The company said, “We take such incidents seriously. Our team has already reached out to the user, and we are in the process of collecting the details to investigate this further.”

OnePlus provided further information regarding the incident. The company has collected the burnt Nord 2 from the user and the device has been sent for further investigation to its Pune facility. Additionally, the victim confirmed that OnePlus has refunded the amount and assured that the company will take care of the medical expenses. The company’s operational head is said to be in constant touch with the victim.

The phone was in the victim’s pocket when the incident took place. According to the victim’s relative, he was riding a bike when the smartphone caught fire. The relative informed that the phone was purchased on Amazon India and the victim never faced any overheating issues with the phone, adding that the weather was cold on the day of the incident. The victim suffered severe second-degree burns and is currently admitted at the hospital.

The issue is very concerning as a few months ago a similar incident took place with a Delhi-based lawyer. However, the customer refused to hand over the device for further investigation to OnePlus, after which the company called the claims “disparaging” and “defamatory” and sent the customer a cease and desist notice.

Google Pixel 2 XL gets its first Android 12 custom ROM

The aftermarket Android community has been pretty active recently, making Android 12 ports for various new and old devices. The devs have also released custom Android 12 Generic System Image (GSI) packages to facilitate any Project Treble-supported device to boot the latest version of Android. Owing to Project Treble, the four-year-old Google Pixel 2 received its first unofficial Android 12 based custom ROM, the ProtonAOSP.

For those unfamiliar with the custom Android community, ProtonAOSP project is a custom ROM created by Danny Lin also known on the XDA forums as kdrag0n. This time however the XDA members Lunarixus, RealOkabe, RallySnow, and Dollscythe take the credit for bringing a functional build of the Android 12 based ProtonAOSP to Google Pixel 2 XL (via XDA). As of now, a separate build for the regular Pixel 2 is in the works and should be available soon.

Primary functions such as the cellular radio interface layer (RIL), camera, GPS, Bluetooth, and fingerprint reader are working well in this version. With regard to bugs and things now working, encryption isn’t functional yet, and the SELinux is set to permissive mode, which raises serious security concerns. Despite that, the devs have still achieved an impressive feat, as it can be a real hassle trying to get a ROM fully functional without radio or camera issues.

To flash this ROM, ProtonAOSP has provided a factory image that enables you to directly flash the OS via Fastboot. But be careful and back your data up before flashing, as you might need to re-partition and eventually wipe the internal storage of your Pixel device. As it is an unofficial ROM, it is strongly advised to be careful about your sensitive information.
