Samsung’s Unpacked event for August 11 confirmed, new foldables teased

Samsung has finally confirmed that it will be holding its next Galaxy Unpacked launch event at 10 AM ET on Aug. 11. The teaser released by the brand hints at the arrival of new foldable devices. It can be said based on recent rumors that the company will announce the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 through Aug. 11 event.

The event will be held online, and it will be live-streamed across its social channels. Apart from announcing the new foldables, the company is also expected to unleash the Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, and Galaxy Buds2.

For the past few years, Samsung has been launching the Galaxy Note series phone in the month of August. However, it was confirmed by the brand earlier this year that it will not be announcing the Galaxy Note 21 this year.

The Galaxy Z Fold3 is expected to arrive as the first Fold series device from the brand with S Pen stylus support. This device is also said to be equipped with an in-display camera, a first from Samsung. On the other side, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G clamshell is expected to sport a refresh dual-tone design, a redesigned vertical dual-camera setup, and a larger secondary screen.

The Galaxy Watch4 series is expected to feature a more powerful chip called Exynos W920 and they are likely to arrive with 16GB of built-in storage. However, the major attraction of Watch4 lineup is that it will come with One UI Watch, which is a modified version of Wear OS. The Galaxy Buds 2 is expected to arrive with support for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and it will arrive in three colors. It is speculated that the shipments of the Watch4 series will begin on Aug. 11, while the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 will begin on Aug. 27.

Recent reports have claimed that Xiaomi will be announcing the Mi Pad 5 series of tablets in August in China. Three new devices that are believed to be the upcoming tablets from the company have received approval from the 3C authority of China. This indicates that the company may at least three Mi Pad 5 tablets in the coming month.

As can be seen, the 3C authority has approved three Xiaomi tablets with model numbers M210581AC, 21051182C, and M201581C. As can be seen in the screenshot, the K81A and K81C models are likely to ship with a 67W charger. It appears that among the two models, only the K81C will carry support for 5G connectivity.

According to Digital Chat Station, the K81A and K81C tablets will be driven by the Snapdragon 870 chipset. Previous reports have claimed that the K81C model could be housing an 8,720mAh battery. Both models may house a 48-megapixel main camera along with an LCD panel that offers 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Probably, the K81A and K81C could be the same tablet with the former being a Wi-Fi-only edition and the latter arriving as its 5G variant.

On the other side, the 82C model could be shipping with a 33W fast charger. The tipster claimed that it will be featuring the Snapdragon 860. A recent leak claimed that the Snapdragon 870 variants of the Mi Pad 5 may launch first, while the SD860 version may arrive later. The tipster claimed that this model also features an LCD panel that offers a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh. Past reports have claimed that it may feature a 12-megapixel main camera and a 12,400mAh battery.

Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia has seen a rebound from its dull performance in the rapidly expanding and lucrative Chinese 5G infrastructure supply market last year. A report by China’s largest telecom provider, China Mobile, has indicated that Nokia got one of its three 5G radio infrastructure contracts this year. The rebound follows a poor 2020 for the Scandinavian company in China, in which it did not secure any contract. On the other hand, Swedish-owned Ericsson saw a dip in its fortunes in the Chinese 5G market, possibly as a result of the political tensions that came to the fore by Sweden blocking Chinese companies from participating in the 5G rollout in the Scandinavian country, on national security concerns.

According to the documents released by China Mobile, Chinese powerhouses Huawei and ZTE retain the lion share of the 5G radio contracts, with Nokia getting a 10% share from one of the contracts. At the same time, Ericsson nicked 9.6% from another contract. The total 5G contract sum is about $6 billion, showing Nokia’s 4% overall share worth $240 million, while Ericsson had roughly half of Nokia’s share, which is about $120 million. Ericsson’s performance shows a decline from its good showing in 2020. However, some big announcements are still expected from China Telecom and China Unicom, two of the other big players in the Chinese tech firmament.

China is the global leader in 5G network infrastructure deployment and provides a very lucrative market for tech companies with important 5G technologies. Nokia hopes to provides further details of its performance in China when it releases its earnings report by July 29. On the other hand, Ericsson does not expect a significant jump in its contracts in China when China Telecom and China Unicom announce the successful 5G bids. The company projects that it is unlikely that the two Chinese telecom providers will go beyond the bands shown in its China Mobile contracts.

Samsung has announced the unveiling of the 65-inch model of its The Serif TV to its home market of South Korea. The company says that a global rollout will also follow the Korea launch shortly. Previous The Serif models are the 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch TVs, and now the more expansive 65-inch model is priced at KRW 2,790,000 (~$2,420). The new 65-inch The Serif TV is available on Samsung Digital Platform offline stores across South Korea.

The smart TV sports a collaborative design, with a great touch from furniture maker Ronan & Erwin Bouroullec. It serves a dual purpose in the room, both as a smart TV and a furniture item when it’s not in use. This is because the Serif TV looks like a painting canvass, with the in-built Magic Screen feature of the TV accentuating its effect and aesthetic appeal in the room’s interior.

The Serif TV is a smart QLED TV with 4K resolution and a high display refresh rate of 120Hz. It comes with a raft of technologies that combine to give the viewer all-round video and audio entertainment when using the TV. It has HDR10+, Dolby Digital Plus, Adaptive sound, Active Voice Amplifier (AVA), and Dialog enhancement features. With multiple HDMI and USB ports, the smart TV can easily connect to several input sources simultaneously. It also has Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity and Wi-Fi 5 support for internet connectivity.

The Samsung Serif 65-inch smart TV runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS and provides a raft of applications that expands the possibilities and the entertainment that could be gotten from the TV. It also has NFC, screen mirroring capability, and Voice Assistant support. With the SmartThings app, Samsung Health, and Microsoft Office 365 features, users are guaranteed greater depth in using their 65-inch Serif smart TV.

Huawei P50 series to capture real-life colors from its cameras

Huawei will officially launch the P50 series on July 29 in China. One of its major highlights will be the cameras. Just yesterday, the company shared its first teaser video highlighting the cameras, and today, Huawei has yet again shared another teaser video showcasing the colors captured from the phone’s cameras.

According to the video, the Huawei P50 series’ cameras will capture true-to-life colors. The images will have colors of exactly what you see in the real-life.

For starters, a recent leak revealed a triple rear camera system on the Huawei P50. It will feature a Sony IMX707 primary lens, a Sony IMX600 sensor, and lastly a 3x telephoto lens. On the other hand, the P50 Pro will feature a quad-camera system with a Sony IMX800 primary lens, an OVA64A OmniVision sensor, a 5x periscope lens, and a ToF sensor.

Additionally, a teaser from Huawei revealed that the phone has LEICA-powered lenses and just below the branding there was a writing that stated, “VARIO-SUMMILUX-H1:1.8-3.4/18-125ASPH”. It means that the phone will come with a Vario-Summilux lens by Leica with an aperture between f/1.8 and f/3.4.

Apart from the cameras, the Huawei P50 series will also come with powerful internals. For China, the P50 and P50 Pro will come powered by the Kirin 9000 SoC with 4G connectivity. The global markets are slated to get Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 powered units, but again, it will be limited to 4G connectivity.

The series is expected to feature a large display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Specifically, the Pro model is touted to boast a 2.5K (1224 x 2696 pixels) resolution display.

We are yet to learn the other hardware details of the series, but what we know are the color variants. A few days back, a Sparkling Pink color happened to pop up in the leaks, and it looked quite fancy. Other color variants could possibly be Black, White, and a Golden shade.

LG Electronics recently announced its exit from the smartphone market, having shed its smartphone arm as a result of some retooling of the operations of the South Korean tech company. It was also reported that some of its smartphones that were caught in the decision to exit the smartphone production were given out at a hugely discounted price to its Korean employees.

Reports monitored from South Korea now indicate that LG Electronics will begin the sales of Apple iPhones in its 400 LG Best shops across the country in a move that is already drawing some flak from some industry watchers. Indeed LG faced a lot of resistance even from the national distributors association. Still, the company is undeterred in its decision, which can be viewed as a shrewd move from the business angle. It is also known that LG is still in talks with the Distribution Association as regards its iPhone sales decision.

The story first broke a couple of weeks back but LG later jettisoned the idea due to several backlash in the domestic market, especially from the Distribution Association. However it looks like the company has now decided to go ahead with the sales of iPhones in its LG Best shops in Korea.

LG Electronics officially withdrew from the mobile business effective at the end of July, hence its decision to begin iPhone sales in its extensive LG Best shops network in South Korea. The move seems a delicate one, as a few other Apple products are included in the sales plan of LG. These are Apple watches and iPads, although the Macbook and other Apple PC offerings are excluded because LG is still producing these devices. There is no after-sales support in the sales decision by LG. So buyers of Apple devices from the LG Best shops will have to seek customer support elsewhere for their devices.

It is most probable that LG and Apple had reached some understanding for the sales of Apple iPhones in LG Best shops across South Korea. It is known that Apple had earlier approached LG on the possibility of using the LG Best network of shops for the sale of Apple iPhones when it became known that LG was exiting the smartphone market. Ultimately, both LG and Apple will benefit from this sales arrangement.

Earlier, a renowned tipster, Digital Chat Station revealed that the upcoming MIUI 13 software skin will release soon. And, it will be pushed to all the Xiaomi phones launched in the last two years. Now, a fresh leak from a Chinese leaker named Bald Panda, reveals key features of the MIUI 13, taking us closer to the official announcement.

According to the leaker, MIUI 13 skin will come with multiple features. The most significant changes over the current MIUI 12 would be in the design and looks. The MIUI 13 skin is said to come with new animations and fonts. It will also come with redesigned app icons and fresh wallpapers.

Apart from the design, the leaker also revealed some system-based features. The next-gen MIUI will feature a floating window for games. So far we’ve seen floating windows for apps but when it comes to games, it is unlikely to be seen on any software system. This will change with the upcoming MIUI 13 software skin.

Additionally, the UI will bring memory fusion technology and a layered rendering system. The memory fusion technology will work similarly to the virtual RAM feature, where users with limited RAM will be able to improve the performance by using the phone’s ROM.

Other than this, the MIUI 13 update is yet to be announced by Xiaomi. A previous leak revealed that the update will be rolled in mid or late August this year.

Some upcoming phones launching with MIUI 13 will be the much-anticipated Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 and the Xiaomi CC 11 series.

Fujitsu is making its debut in the Indian Consumer PC market by unveiling its UH-X and UH-X convertible laptops in India. The Fujitsu UH-X series features some innovative designs and functionality that the Japanese manufacturer hopes will excite the Indian consumers. The two models are already available from Amazon India, starting from Rs. 80,990 ($1,085) and Rs. 86,990 ($1,165) respectively.

Regarding the processor, RAM, and internal storage, two variants of the Fujitsu UH-X and UH-X convertible laptops are available in India, namely an 8GB and 16GB RAM variant while the UH-X convertible comes in a 512GB or 1TB internal storage option. The UH-X is available in a single 512GB storage option pairing with the two RAM sizes.

The UH-X and the UH-X Convertible laptops have some similar features across their variants. They both pack the Intel Core i7 and the Intel Core i5 processors have the same 50Wh battery that offers up to 11 hours of service. The processor comes with the Intel Iris XE graphics card.

In addition, the Fujitsu UH-X Convertible and UH-X feature a 13.3-inch anti-glare display with LED backlight and FHD resolution. The laptops also come with a multi-gesture touchpad, Wi-Fi 6, and both models run on Windows 10. The UH-X Convertible laptop features a touch screen, and it comes with a front and rear camera setup. Both models weigh under 1kg, with the UH-X convertible weighing 997g while the UH-X weighing slightly less at 877g. The Fujitsu UH-X laptop has a fingerprint sensor as an additional layer of security and supports Windows Hello.

Fujitsu is making a big statement with its strong entry into the Indian PC market. It remains to be seen what the reception will look like for the two models in India.

iQOO 7 Monster Orange variant launching in India soon ahead of Amazon Prime Day sale

Vivo’s independent iQOO brand will soon launch a new color variant of the flagship iQOO 7 in India. The iQOO 7 was first launched in India in April this year. Just a few days back, the company released a teaser on Twitter that shows that a new variant of the iQOO 7 was on the way but the poster didn’t specify the change that will be onboard the new variant. It has now emerged that the new variant will be a Monster Orange color option. The new variant will join the Storm Black and Solid Ice Blue color options with which the flagship device was launched.

This bit was shared on Twitter by noted tipster Ishan Agarwal. The tipster hinted that the new variant will be available during the Amazon Prime Day sale which will hold on July 26 and July 27. The new variant will be available in 8GB+128GB memory configuration and 12GB+256GB options. There is no word yet on the pricing but we don’t expect it to be any different from the two existing color variants.

As a reminder, the iQOO 7 features a 6.62-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (FHD+). The display also packs a 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. It also supports 1300 nits peak brightness level, 6000000:1 contrast ratio, and HDR10+.

The iQOO 7 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. The device sports a triple camera setup on the back consisting of a 48MP Sony IMX598 primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP 120° ultra-wide unit with support for macro mode (2.5cm focus distance), and a 2MP monochrome sensor. At the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera on the centered punch-hole.

Infinix Hot 10 Play gets a cheaper 3GB+32GB variant in India priced at Rs. 7,999 (~$107)

BBK subsidiary Infinix first launched the Hot 10 Play in India in April this year. The smartphone is an affordable budget offering carrying a starting price tag of Rs. 8,499 (~$114). The device was available in a single memory variant of 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Right now, Infinix has added a new memory variant made of 3GB RAM and 32GB storage to the mix. The storage variant will be available for sale in India from July 21st at 12 noon. It will be sold exclusively on Flipkart. The device will retail for Rs. 7,999 (~$107).

Apart from the memory setup, this new variant retains all other specs of the Indian version of the Hot 10 Play. Recall that the Infinix Hot 10 Play launched in India packing a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset as against the Helio G25 SoC onboard the global version.

The Hot 10 Play packs a massive 6.82-inch LCD screen with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1640 pixels and a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S starts receiving MIUI 12.5 update

In mid-June, Xiaomi confirmed the MIUI 12.5 update for a bunch of yesteryear flagship smartphones. All those models have received the promised update in the past few weeks, except for the Mi MIX 2S. Now, it has also started receiving the latest version of MIUI.

MIUI 12.5 was unveiled at the Mi 11 launch event at the end of December 2020. Xiaomi began to release the stable update in late March 2021. Since then, it has updated most of its portfolio in China.

The Mi MIX 2S is one of the last few older flagships eligible for the MIUI 12.5 update. Hence, it is getting the update only now. The latest system update for the handset in China arrives with build number V12.5.1.0.QDGCNXM.

The software build is currently in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase. In other words, it is being rolled out in batches for a select few users. At the end of the day, the update should be available for all users in the coming days.

Since Xiaomi released Mi MIX 2S outside mainland China, the device also has two other regional software builds – ‘Global’ and ‘Russia’. Handsets running these builds will be also getting the new update soon.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S launched with MIUI 9 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone has received three MIUI updates (MIUI 10, MIUI 11, MIUI 12) and two Android updates (Android 9.0 Pie, Android 10). Hence, it will most likely not get MIUI 13 and Android 12.

Xiaomi applies trademark for “Magic Control”, could be a smart remote controller

Xiaomi has just applied for a new trademark application that could be an upcoming consumer electronic product. The application is for the “XIAOMI MAGIC CONTROL,” which could possibly be a new smart universal remote controller.

This trademark application for Magic Control was filed for multiple categories including advertising sales, design research, scientific instruments, and communication services. At the moment, the trademark is still waiting for registration. Unfortunately, apart from the name of this product, we have no real information to go on as of right now since it is just an application (spotted by ITHome). Although, we can make certain speculations regarding the nature or function of this device.

The name ‘Magic Control’ is quite similar to a previously launched gadget from the Chinese tech giant dubbed Mi Magic Controller. This was practically a cube that will function as a standard remote controller. It offered users various forms of controls and actions and worked with a number of Xiaomi products including lamps, TV sets, Air Purifier, along with smart TVs and other smart products as well.

The most notable aspect about this product was that certain actions were input through simply shaking the cube, moving it, and even rotating it 90 degrees or 180 degrees, or by making a double tap on it. So, the Magic Control might be similar to this product. However, it might also arrive with additional features like gesture support or even air gestures as well. But we have no way of knowing for sure.

Earlier today (20th July 2021), Redmi had held an online launch event in India in which it unveiled its latest smartphone, the Note 10T 5G. During this live stream on YouTube, the company also teased the launch of its RedmiBook series of laptops in the region.

At the end of the live stream, the Chinese smartphone maker teased the arrival of various products. This includes smartphones, power banks, Redmi Audio, Fitness, upcoming smart TVs, and right before the end it spelt out the incompleted “RedmiBoo,” which clearly implies the brand’s own lineup of notebooks. Unfortunately, this is all the information the company shared regarding this matter as of right now.

In other words, we have nothing but this split second teaser to go on at the moment. Although, this does mean that the company is finally bringing its laptops to the region, which could be beneficial to the company as work from home/ remote working along with online education lifestyles are still common amid the pandemic. Furthermore, if Redmi follows its value for money philosophy with laptops, we might see capable hardware in aggressively priced notebooks.

Previously, Xiaomi had also launched its Mi Notebook 14 laptops in India that saw strong sales at its price point. So, this could’ve been one of the reasons why even its subsidiary will be launching its own RedmiBook series as well. We had also recently reported that the new RedmiBooks arriving in India and are rebranded Mi Notebook Pro and Mi Notebook Ultra 15 that have launched in China.

realme narzo 20 Pro receives Android 11 stable update

Handset maker realme has been working on releasing the realme UI 2.0 update for its devices since September 2020. Ten months later, the brand is yet to update its portfolio to the latest version of its software based on Android 11. The next model to receive this update is the realme narzo 20 Pro.

Smartphone brand realme kicked off realme UI 2.0 Early Access program for the realme narzo 20 Pro at the end of December 2020. This means the company took almost 7 months to deliver stable Android 11 update for this handset.

According to a tweet by @thegadgetshub (via PiunikaWeb), the realme UI 2.0 stable update for the realme narzo 20 pro arrives with firmware version RMX2161_11_C.09 and weighs a whopping 3.04GB in size.

Like any other OTA system update, this one is likely being rolled out in batches. As a result, it may take some time to reach every unit. At the end of the day, the update should be available for all users in the coming days.

At the moment, it’s not known whether the realme narzo 20 Pro will be updated to Android 12. Going by realme’s slower update rollout, the smartphone may not be eligible for the next version of realme UI.
