Upcoming smartphones in July 2021: OnePlus, Huawei, Poco, Samsung, & more

It’s the start of the second half of this year, and we have some exciting launches in the pipeline. We have launches expected from the budget segment like the OnePlus Nord 2 and even from the flagship segment like the Huawei P50. There are also some camera and gaming-centric phones like the Realme GT 5G Master Edition and the POCO F3 GT. That said, buyers will get a variety of options to choose from in different price segments this month.

Let’s have a look at the full list of the phones launching in July 2021

OnePlus Nord 2

1OnePlus Nord 2

The OnePlus Nord 2 will be the successor to the original Nord that launched back in August 2020. With the successive launch of the original, the company is all set to once again offer a OnePlus experience on a budget.

So far, we’ve seen that the phone will flaunt a similar design and form factor to that of the original OnePlus Nord. The smartphone should sport a 6.43-inch punch-hole AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

In-display fingerprint scanner, 50MP triple rear cameras, and MediaTek Dimensity 1200 will be some highlights of the Nord 2. The phone should also pack a 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T. Finally, it is expected to come with Oxygen OS based on Android 12 out of the box.

Redmi 10

2Xiaomi Redmi 10 Series

The popular entry-level segment is all set to get a bunch of Redmi 10 devices. Xiaomi has already launched the Redmi Note 10 phones in major markets, and with the upcoming launch of Redmi 10 phones, buyers will be getting some variety to choose from.

Just like last year, the Redmi 10 series will get a couple of versions. We can expect a vanilla Redmi 10, a Redmi 10A, and some other versions depending on the market. The specs for the series are still under wraps but as the series was teased recently, we can expect the phones to debut in the mid-end of July.

3Huawei Nova 8i (Update: Launched)

Huawei Nova 8i is on the leak spree for a while. Recently, the company confirmed that the phone will make its first appearance on July 7 in Malaysia. One of the major highlights of the phone will be the eye-catching camera island.

Apart from it, the smartphone will sport a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen, Snapdragon 662 processor, and a whopping 66W fast charging support. Huawei has already teased its fast charging speeds showcasing that the phone can go from 0% to 100% in just 38 minutes.

It is worth noting that the phone will launch with the EMUI 11 operating system on top of the old Android 10. Rumors reveal that the phone will get the HarmonyOS update in the future.

4Vivo S10

The Vivo S10 had made rounds on various certifications hinting for a launch closer than expected. The phone will succeed the Vivo S9 that launched earlier this year in China. The phone was recently spotted on Geekbench with MediaTek Dimensity 1100 SoC.

It is said to come with 12GB of RAM and a battery with 44W fast charging support. As per its leaked specs sheet, the phone will be good at capturing pictures, thanks to its 108MP rear triple cameras and the 44MP selfie camera. Just like Huawei’s Nova 8i, the Vivo S10 will also boast fast charging support that will juice up the entire device in 38 minutes.

With more certifications on the way, we can expect the device to hit the floors this month.

5Samsung Galaxy F22

In between these Chinese giants, we have Samsung, touted to unveil a mid-range phone dubbed Galaxy F22. The Samsung Galaxy F22 has been officially scheduled to launch on July 6 in the Indian market. Fans can expect a Made in India 4G handset with crazy battery life.

The Galaxy F22 will feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. One bummer would be the rumored HD+ screen on the device. Other specs of the phone are quite impressive, a 6,000mAh battery, 48MP quadruple cameras, and a side-facing fingerprint scanner.

6Poco F3 GT

Xiaomi’s Poco is likely to launch the F3 GT in the Indian market. For those who are unaware, the phone has already made it to the Chinese market but the Indian launch has been delayed since last month. This month, Poco could bring it to the Indian market in the mid-range segment.

Some of the specs of the gaming smartphone are a Dimensity 1200 5G chipset, 5,065mAh battery, and dedicated trigger buttons. The smartphone also has a 64MP triple rear camera and a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED display. For all the gamers in India, this could be one of the gadgets you should be waiting for.

realme x9

7Realme X9/ Realme GT 5G Master Edition

Realme will launch a successor to the Realme X7 smartphone this month. Although an exact launch date is unknown, the leaks point out a July launch. The Chinese phone maker could launch a camera-centric phone in China dubbed Realme GT 5G Master Edition.

The specs for the Realme X9 series are scarce but what we know is that it will be offering a flagship-like premium experience in the mid-range segment. The X9 could also be joined by a sibling dubbed Realme X9 Pro. The vanilla Realme X9 is tipped to offer Snapdragon 778G and the Realme X9 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC.

On the other hand, the Realme GT 5G Master Edition will sport 108MP triple rear cameras, a 6.5-inch screen, a 4,500mAh battery, and support for 65W rapid charging. Recently, there were talks that Realme is working with Kodak in co-producing a camera-centric device. Rumors are rife that the GT 5G master edition could be the one with Kodak powered camera.

8Huawei P50 Series

Huawei P50 series is one the most anticipated flagship series launching this month. According to sources, the series will include a vanilla Huawei P50, a P50 Pro, and a P50 Pro+ smartphone.

Interestingly, the trio will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset but not the usual 5G version. It is said that Huawei only has the consent to use 4G-enabled Qualcomm processors. The Chinese variants will be powered by the in-house Kirin 9000 SoC.

Here we end with our list of the upcoming phones launching this month. Which one are you most excited about? Tell us in the comments.

Huawei MatePad 11 with a Snapdragon 865 chip announced in China

The MatePad 11 briefly mentioned at Huawei’s launch event last month is now official. The device which runs HarmonyOS 2 was unveiled in China today, and just like the MatePad Pro 10.8, it too comes with a Snapdragon processor.

Huawei MatePad 11 featured

Huawei has equipped the tablet with a 10.95-inch LCD display that has a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display has moderately sized bezels of equal thickness on all sides. The front-facing 8MP camera is positioned on one of the bezels.

There is a Snapdragon 865 processor powering the tablet and it is paired with 6GB of RAM. Interested buyers will be able to pick it up in 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB storage variants. There is a MicroSD card slot that allows users to add up to an extra 1TB of storage. We are surprised Huawei added support for a MicroSD card instead of its proprietary nano memory card.

The Huawei MatePad 11 has a 13MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. There is an LED flash and the camera can shoot time-lapse photos. There are four microphones on the device as well as four Harman Kardon-tuned speakers. The tablet works with the M-Pencil 2nd Generation and also has an optional magnetic keyboard that allows you to use it as a small notebook computer. Users will be able to use two instances of the same app side-by-side. The MatePad 11 can also connect to a compatible computer and serve as a digital drawing tablet.

Other features of the tablet include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and OTG with reverse charging support. There is a 7250mAh battery under the hood with support for 22.5W fast charging.

Huawei MatePad 11 Price and Availability

The MatePad 11 will sell for ¥2469 (~$381) for the 64GB version, ¥2799 (~$432) for the 128GB version, and ¥3299 (~$509) for the 256GB version. It will be available in Island Blue, Dark Lime, and Frosted Silver. It can already be pre-ordered on Vmall.

New leak show the Galaxy Buds2 in three colors, will have ANC and better boost

Samsung will announce a new pair of wireless earbuds at its Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for next month. There have been multiple leaks related to the earbuds which will arrive as the Galaxy Buds2 but a new leak that surfaced today gives us our best look at them yet.

The leak comes in form of three gifs posted on Twitter by Evan Blass and they show the Galaxy Buds in White, Lavender Purple, and Olive Green. However, unlike previous Galaxy Buds that come in a case with matching colors, all the colors of the Galaxy Buds2 come in a white case, though the interior has the same color as the earbuds.

While the new earbuds still have an in-ear design, the design has changed. They also look smaller now and come in the same squircle carrying case as the Galaxy Buds Live and the Galaxy Buds Pro.

The case of the Galaxy Buds2 has a USB-C port at the back but it should also support wireless charging. There is an LED in front to indicate when the case is charging and another inside that lights up when the earbuds are charging.

With respect to features, Ice Universe has revealed that the earbuds have active noise cancellation and better bass. It has been previously reported that each of the earbuds may have a battery capacity of 60mAh while the case will have a battery capacity of 500mAh.

Huawei quietly discontinues the 12GB RAM variants of PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate40 RS

Huawei launched the HUAWEI Mate40 series in late October 2020. The PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate40 RS is the most expensive model in the lineup. Initially, the device only came in two storage configurations. A third variant was released in early May 2021. Two months later, the company has now quietly discontinued the first two versions.

PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate 40 RS Featured
PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate40 RS

The PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate40 RS debuted in two memory variants – 12GB + 256 and 12GB + 512GB in China. Internationally, it was only made available in 12GB + 512GB version.

A couple of months back in May, the company launched a new 8GB + 256GB variant for its home country. Since then, the two 12GB models have been mostly out of stock in the region.

Now, according to a Huawei-focussed tipster on Weibo, the company has discontinued the 12GB RAM variants of the PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate40 RS. As per him, the firm will only sell the newly introduced 8GB + 256GB version going forward.

He asks people to purchase the new variant instead of waiting for the 12GB RAM model. He even criticizes the offline retailers and customer service for giving false hopes on the availability of the higher RAM variant in the future.

Interested customers can buy the PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate40 RS with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage for  ¥10,999 ($1,701).

The non-availability of certain models and re-release of multiple premium smartphones with 4G chips clearly say that Huawei is severely affected by the US ban as well as the global semiconductor shortage. The company’s smartphone market share has been now occupied by OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi in China as well as global markets.

Carl Pei reveals features and price of the Nothing ear (1)

This month is an important one for Carl Pei, the former OnePlus co-founder who left to start his own company last year. The new startup will unveil its first product by the end of the month and it will arrive as the Nothing ear (1). Ahead of the launch, the entrepreneur has granted an interview that reveals key details about the earbuds as well as the company.

Nothing ear (1) launch

Nothing ear (1) design

Speaking to Techcrunch, Carl Pei revealed that the delay with the release of the ear (1) had nothing to do with supply issues but the transparent design. He disclosed that making a high-quality transparent product is extremely difficult as they had to consider certain parameters (magnets and glue type) that wouldn’t have mattered if the product was opaque.

Nothing ear (1) features

The Nothing ear (1) will have three high-definition microphones and active noise cancellation alongside other features found on the AirPods Pro. However, it will sell for a much affordable price than the $249 Apple charges for its earbuds. You don’t have to wait until the launch date to find out how much it will cost as the CEO has let the cat out of the bag.

Nothing ear (1) price and availability

The Nothing ear (1) will be priced at $99 in the U.S., €99 in Europe, and £99 in the U.K. That makes it a direct competitor to the new Pixel Buds A series. Pei revealed that they are able to keep the price tag fair because they will be primarily sold online. The manufacturer revealed a few weeks ago that the earbuds will be sold by Flipkart in India.

The earbuds will launch first in the U.K., India, Europe, and North America before making their way to Japan, Korea, and other regions later.  The Nothing ear (1) will be announced on July 27.

Plans for Essential

Shortly after Nothing was formed, the company acquired Essential. In the interview, Carl Pei revealed that they acquired the company for its trademark as it was one of the names they wanted to call the company before settling for Nothing. He added that not only will Essential IP not appear in its first product but they “don’t have any plans to do anything with Essential”!

So if you have had your hopes up about Essential being resurrected by Nothing, they have just been dashed. However, that isn’t to say Nothing can’t change its mind in the future.

Chinese owned Nexperia to acquire UK’s largest chipmaker Newport Wafer Fab: Report

Nexperia, the Dutch semiconductor based company that is a subsidiary of China based firm Wingtech Technology, is apparently planning on buying Newport Wafer Fab, which is the largest chip maker in the US.

According to a SCMP report, Nexperia is planning on acquiring the UK chip maker for a 63 million Pounds (roughly 87 US Dollars). The report arrives from anonymous sources close to the matter last week. The news of the deal arrives amid Beijing’s push for technological self reliance. This move has led to the Chinese government pouring resources into the development of local semiconductor industry. The effort is primarily driven by US sanctions that have disrupted the supply chains of Chinese companies.

Chinese

At the moment, experts in the UK have expressed their concerns regarding security about the Nexperia-Newport deal. A Nexperia spokesperson said the company is still in talks with the Newport Wafer Fab and the Welsh government but has declined to further comment on the matter. Notably, Wingtech had purchased stakes worth 4.14 billion US Dollars into Nexperia, acquiring 80 percent stake in the Dutch firm. This share has now increased to 98.2 percent last year, with the Chinese firm buying out stakes in Nexperia to expand into semiconductor technology.

The realme C15 Qualcomm Edition made its debut at the end of October 2020. As the name suggests, it comes with a Qualcomm SoC, Snapdragon 460 to be precise. The original model is powered by a MediaTek Helio G35 chip. On the software front, the phone launched with realme UI based on Android 10. Now, it has finally started receiving the Android 11 (realme UI 2.0) stable update.

realme C15 Qualcomm Edition realme UI 2.0 Android 11 Stable Update

Chinese handset maker realme opened realme UI 2.0 Early Access registrations for realme C15 Qualcomm Edition by late April 2021. A little over two months later, the smartphone has now begun to receive the stable update.

According to the official announcement post on realme Community, the latest system update for the device arrives with firmware version RMX2195PU_11.A.05. Right now, it is being rolled out in batches. Hence, it could take some time to reach every unit.

Anyway, the update should be available for all users in the coming days. Also, users not satisfied with the software build can revert back to Android 10. However, that process will wipe the device’s internal storage.

Unfortunately, it’s not known whether this phone will get the Android 12 update in the future. We don’t think it will be eligible either. But we believe is that it should get maintenance security patches for a while.

Xiaomi launches new MIJIA Air Pump 1S for 199 Yuan ($30) in China

Xiaomi had initially launched its own Mi Air Pump tire inflator back in 2019. Now, the company has just unveiled a new tire inflator from MIJIA, which is available for 199 Yuan (roughly 30 US Dollars).

Xiaomi

The Chinese tech giant has officially released the new MIJIA Air Pump 1S earlier today (6th July 2021). This new tire inflator arrives with a price tag similar to the one the company launched two years ago and is currently listed for sales on online e-retailers JD.com. As per official notes, the new tire inflator has launched with various improvements and optimizations to offer a better performance over the previous generation.

Furthermore, its total capacity has also be increased by about 45.4 percent, which enables it to fill two car tires that have nearly zero air pressure in just 11 minutes on full capacity. Similarly, it can even inflate eight car tires that have insufficient air pressure. Meanwhile, the previous iteration could only fill about 5.5 of such car tires. The body of the MIJIA Air Pump 1S uses a high precision alloy die cast cylinder block, which only takes 20 seconds to pressurize from 0 psi to 150 psi.

Xiaomi

This even useful for the high pressure requirements of mountain bikes, pressure shock absorbers and even regular road bike tires. A notably upgrade is the the air pressure sensor, which now arrives with a digital chip that can accurate detect tire pressure by just a small margin of error. The device also offers up to 5 different kinds of inflation modes (namely free mode, bicycle mode, motorcycle mode, car mode, and ball mode) and can also prevent over inflation. It is powered by a 2,000mAh battery pack and does not require an external power supply for charging.
