Xiaomi initially announced MIUI 12.5 at the Mi 11 China launch event in late December 2020. Later, the company unveiled MIUI 12.5 Global at the Mi 11 launch event for international markets. At the same event, the firm even revealed the list of eligible devices. In fact, the Chinese smartphone maker had even started recruiting global pilot (beta) testers before the announcement. Now, a little over a month later, Xiaomi has opened registrations for MIUI 12.5 India beta program.
For those unaware, Xiaomi (Mi, Redmi, POCO) smartphones run different MIUI builds based on the regions they are sold in. Since India is the company’s largest market outside mainland China, almost all phones sold in India ship with MIUI India ROM.
Talking about MIUI 12.5, it is the latest version of Xiaomi’s mobile operating system. It is a minor upgrade over MIUI 12, which was introduced in late April 2020. The new version focuses on performance, privacy, sounds & haptics, and uninstallable system apps to name a few.
The company has been rolling out MIUI 12.5 weekly beta builds in China since the initial announcement. Similarly, the company has been even running MIUI 12.5 Global Beta program for quite a while now.
Hence, Xiaomi has now started recruiting beta testers for MIUI 12.5 India. Since Mi Community India is now disabled in the country, the company seems to have shared the registration form via some other media. We are not sure how they shared the form but we came across it through PiunikaWeb.
According to the registration form, the following Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones will be eligible for MIUI 12.5 India ROM.

Samsung hasn’t yet brought the 5G devices to India under the budget or mid-range segment for that matter. The closest example would be the Galaxy A52 4G which launched as a 5G device in certain markets outside India. That should change later in 2021 according to previous reports. Accordingly, a support page for the Galaxy M42 5G has gone live in India.
A new support page for an upcoming Samsung smartphone has gone live in India. This device has the model number SM-M426B/DS. Here, the DS generally notes that it’s the Dual SIM variant. If you recall, this device has already been certified at the Wi-Fi Alliance, China’s 3C authority, and others like India’s BIS.
This model number coincides with the Galaxy A42 5G(SM-A426B) that launched in European markets last year. Hence, the device, under Galaxy M42 5G moniker, could share some of the design, specs from the Galaxy A42 5G.
However, the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G should have certain tweaks like the 64MP primary camera instead of the 48MP shooter, 6,000mAh battery instead of 5,000mAh on the A42 5G, 32MP selfie camera, and more. Speaking of similarities, the Galaxy M42 5G could feature a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED HD+ Infinity-U display.
Under the hood, it can very well have the Snapdragon 750G 5G chipset paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage options. We can expect other specs like Bluetooth 5.0, in-display fingerprint sensor, fast charging support up to 15W, MicroSD slot for expansion up to 1TB, run latest One UI 3.1, and more.
Let’s wait for the official confirmation regarding the device from Samsung which is expected to come out in the near future.
Earlier this month, the iQOO Z3 was launched with 120Hz high refresh rate and Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G. Now, a new leak has suggested that a Pro variant is on the way and will feature a higher end Snapdragon 780G along with a 144Hz LCD display.
According to a Weibopost (a Chinese microblogging website), the company is working on an IQOO Z3 Pro, which is a higher end version of its newly launched mid range handset. For those unaware, the base Z3 was launched back on 25th March 2021, and featured notable specs and started from a price tag of 1,699 Yuan (roughly 260 US Dollars). It featured the Snapdragon 768G 5G enabled processor and a 120Hz high refresh rate display.
Now, a leak has revealed that the Chinese smartphone maker’s Z3 Pro will support Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 780G processor and a 144Hz high refresh rate on its LCD display panel. Qualcomm had just recently announced the Snapdragon 780G mobile processor. This would mean that the Z3 Pro would be one of the first smartphones to feature the newly announced 5nm chipset.
At the moment, this chip is expected to first be featured in the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite. So, we can expect other smartphone vendors to launch their own offerings soon. Unfortunately, the leak is still an unconfirmed news, so take this report with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information regarding this upcoming device is available.
Samsung is known to bring improvements to smartphones even after their launch via updates. Recently, it enabled flagship camera features for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G and other older devices. Now, it is bringing more improvements to the entire Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
In a new update that is rolling out to users of India with firmware version G99xxXXU2AUC8, Samsung is bringing camera improvements to the Galaxy S21 series of devices- Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. The update weighs over 1GB and it also has performance improvements for the devices.
Notably, the company seems to have finally allowed users to capture portrait shots via the regular lens. Samsung had introduced new camera features like Director’s View, Low-light portraits during the Galaxy S21 launch. However, it had allowed only ultrawide/telephoto lens to capture portraits so far.
With the new update, users can click portrait photos via the regular sensor as reported by Sammobile. Anyway, along with this, the update also brings the latest April 2021 security patch to the entire Galaxy S21 series.
We can expect the update to expand to other regions as well. That said, if you are living in India, you can try out the new feature by updating the device to the latest firmware. To do that you can navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
Apart from improving the features, Samsung has also been updating its older devices to the latest One UI 3.1 based on Android 11. The company did bring a lot of improvements like the revamped UI, Private Share, GPS location data removal on Images, more Lock screen widgets, improved stock apps & more.
Xiaomi has decided to split this mega launch into two days. At today’s launch, we got the Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Lite, Mi Band 6, and the Mi AX9000 Router. The rest of the products mentioned below will be unveiled tomorrow at the same time.
Original story below..
Xiaomi has scheduled its biggest tech launch event since its inception later today at 7.30 PM CST time in China. The company will be unveiling more than 10 different products from various categories ranging from smartphones, wearables, tablets, to even foldables.
The event is expected to go on for nearly four hours (all thanks to the number of products expected) and Xiaomi has added that some of the product will be announced directly through social media in order to cut short the event time.
That said, here are all the expected Xiaomi products at the 2021 Xiaomi Mega LaunchEvent. We expect at least 15 new product announcements today.
Left: Mi 11i & Mi 11 Center: Mi 11 Ultra RIght: Mi 11 Lite
The Mi 11 ultra is one of the most anticipated smartphones at this event today. Last year’s Mi 10 Ultra came with the latest technology including 120W charging support and this year’s Mi 11 Ultra is expected to be the most powerful smartphone from the brand in the first half of 2021.
Expected features include:
6.81-inch SAMOLED curved edge QHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate
LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage
Snapdragon 888
Harmon Kardon stereo speakers
5000mAh battery silicon-oxygen anode batteries with 67W fast wired and wireless charging with 10W reverse charging
20MP Selfie camera
Samsung GN2 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 48-megapixel telephoto sensor
A possible secondary screen at the back for rear camera selfies
Not much is known about the Pro version but the company confirmed last week that both the Mi 11 Ultra and the Mi 11 Pro will feature new silicon-oxygen anode batteries which will make it thinner and enable faster charging.
Expect the Mi 11 Pro to be a slightly toned-down version of the Mi 11 Ultra.
The rest of the specs are expected to be the same as the 4G version
Xiaomi Mi 11i
There are reports about the Mi 11i being a rebranded Redmi K40 Pro+. Thie phone is likely going to be a toned-down version of the Xiaomi Mi 11 series, but unfortunately, we don’t have any information on its specs.
Xiaomi’s Daniel confirmed the existence of the phone earlier today, calling it the star performer.
Super pleased to be 1st to announce a new star product.
Tonight is about a lot of things, one of the most important to me is that we're going to be rounding off our flagship #Mi11 series.
One of the most exciting products to be unveiled today is the new Xiaomi Mi Mix model. Its been over 2.5 years since the last Mix series was announced in the market. But the company’s premium lineup will make a comeback today, likely in an exciting form factor. While Xiaomi has confirmed the new Mi Mix model will feature liquid lens technology for its camera, there are reports that state that the phone will actually be an inward folding foldable.
So if reports are to be believed, the new Xiaomi Mi Mix model will be the company’s first mass-produced foldable smartphone in the market. It should be the first of the three expected foldables from the brand this year.
The new Mi Band 6 is expected to feature a bigger display, up to 30 sports modes, and should be available in standard and NFC variants. There should also be support for blood oxygen monitoring.
Xiaomi Mi Washing Machine (Front Load)
The teaser reveals a minimalistic design with a single dominating color scheme. The image also shows off a front-facing door, along with a few buttons above it. Note that this will be a brand new model and won’t be similar to the one launched last week.
New Xiaomi Mi Router
Not much is know about the new Xiaomi Mi Router model but the company has confirmed that it will be a premium high-speed router for maximum performance. Expect more details at the event today.
New Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner
A new version of the Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner will be announced at the company’s Mega Launch event today.
New Xiaomi Mi Surge Chip
Another big announcement today should be the new Xiaomi Surge chipset. After the failure of its first-generation Surge S1 chip launched more than four years ago, the company’s chip division will likely make a comeback this year with a new processor.
However, there are reports that say that it won’t be a smartphone chip like its predecessor. Some reports say that the new Surge branded chip could be an ISP for smartphones. There are other reports which say that it could be a chip for smart cars.
Whatever it is, we know for sure we’ll hear about the company’s new chip later today.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Car Plans
Reuters exclusively reported that Xiaomi was partnering with Great Wall Motors to build Electric Smart Cars under its own brand. Unsurprisingly, the report states that the new EV in development will be focused on the mass market.
This is an exciting new development for Xiaomi and we are definitely looking forward to hearing more about their plans at the event today.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 5
According to a popular leaker from China, the long-forgotten Mi Pad lineup will get an update this year with a new model. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 (official name is unknown at the moment) should feature a similar-sized display as the iPad Air 4th Gen (10.9-inch) and iPad Pro 11-inch. The upcoming Xiaomi tablet is also expected to come with Xiaomi Device Control, a feature similar to the HUAWEI Multi-screen Collaboration.
There are a bunch of other products expected at the event today like the Xiaomi Fresh Air fan, a new generation of Mi Air Conditioner, and a new Xiaomi Mi Humidifier.
Note that many of these products might not be announced at the event but they would be revealed via the official social media channels.
As always, we’ll be covering the entire Xiaomi Mega Launch event today. So stay tuned to Gizmochina to keep a track of all the products announced at the big event.

Huami Technology announced a partnership with Amazon Could earlier this week on 25th March 2021. The two firms entered into a strategic partnership to ‘improve global competitiveness.’
The Chinese tech giant announced that it would be using Amazon Cloud Technology’s to leverage its global infrastructure and ‘industry leading security’, along with its cloud technology and services. Furthermore, the known wearables maker also stated that it would also use Amazon’s “chip end cloud,” which covers more than 70 countries and regions across the globe. The company also added that the collaboration would also raise competitiveness, while promoting rapid development in the global market.
Notably, the two companies will also be exploring further cooperation in the future for sectors like cloud based health services. The company said that the reason it chose Amazon Cloud Technology over other cloud based firms is for its flexibility and secure cloud computing environment that it offers. This marks a major partnership that will have Huami utilize the cloud expertise of Amazon.
Fan Meihui, co-founder of Huami Technology and rotating president of the Global Innovation Center stated that “The security and compliance capabilities of Amazon Cloud Technology help make users more trust us to ensure the security and privacy of their personal data, just as they trust Amazon Cloud Technology.”
Infinix is expected to launch the Infinix Note 10 series very soon, as per multiple certifications. It looks like the brand will also announce an entry-level device called Infinix Hot 10i in the coming days. This phone has appeared on Google Play Console revealing its primary specifications.
Infinix Hot 10i | Source: Google Play Console
Infinix Hot series of smartphones are similar to Xiaomi’s Redmi number series. These handsets offer the best bang for the buck in the markets they are sold. They are popular in Africa where Xiaomi and realme do not have much presence.
The upcoming Infinix Hot 10i with model number X658B will be no exception. According to the device’s Google Play Console listing, it will flaunt an HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, 320 DPI, and a centered punch-hole at the top for the selfie camera (as per front render).
Being an entry-level smartphone, the handset will be powered by a MediaTek Helio A20 SoC coupled with 2GB RAM. But thankfully, it will run Android 11 out of the box. Since all three Transsion brands (TECNO, Infinix, itel) are not known for providing proper software support, it is a plus point for this device to come with the latest Android version available.
Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the Infinix Hot 10i apart from the above-mentioned specifics. But we expect to learn more about it before its official announcement sometime later in the coming days.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic that hit the world in 2020, it seemed like the semiconductor based IC design firms would be devastated. But with the rising trend of work from home and online education, the demand for notebooks and networking products surged causing IC design firms to see a spike in revenue last year.
According to a TrendForcereport, the sudden rise of demand for laptops and other products drove manufacturers to significantly ramp up their ‘procurement activities for components.’ Thus, these fabless IC design companies that supply these crucial components had saw great benefits during this time, with these firms seeing notable growth last year. These companies includes major chip makers like Qualcomm, Broadcom, and Nvidia, which saw the highest revenue rise year on year among the top 10 firms.
In 2020, Qualcomm overtook Broadcom for the leading position in the top 10 list due to the sudden rise in demand for network devices, along with Apple’s decision to use Qualcomm’s baseband processors as well. Furthermore, the US sanctions against Huawei also prompted other smartphone makers to ramp up their handset production volumes to seize Huawei’s market share. Notably, the top three IC design firms also saw a whopping 52.2 percent increase in revenue year on year.
While Qualcomm, Broadcom, and Nvidia led the list, other major IC design firms include MediaTek, AMD, Xilinx, Marvell, Novatek, Realtek, and Dialog as well. Last year, MediaTek saw a revenue rise of 37.3 percent year on year, which was a considerable boost over its 1 percent rise back in 2019. Similarly, AMD also made headways in the notebook and desktop PC markets as well, marking a 45 percent rise in revenue year on year.

Apple is facing another lawsuit. This times the company is being sued for a faulty iPad, which might have been the reason for a house fire. The lawsuit was filed by the law firm de Luca Levine.
According to a PhoneArenareport, the incident occurred at Macaluso’s resident in Milford. His insurance company, Allstate Insurance, covered the entire expenditure for for repairs over the fire damage, which costed around 142,000 US Dollars. de Luca Levine is representing the insurance firm and is suing the Cupertino based giant to reimburse the insurer’s payout. The lawsuit alleged that the fire was caused due to a malfunctioning electrical/battery system of the Apple iPad.
Furthermore, the complaint had also added that Macaluso had not “misused, or altered it [his iPad] beyond anticipated handling and operation intended by Apple.” It went on the accuse the iPhone maker of selling a defective/faulty product. The lawsuit was filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania earlier this month and was moved to a federal district court this week.
Similar to this lawsuit, the company also is involved in another ongoing case of a man dying due to a fire caused by another iPad’s faulty battery, which caused a spark. In other words, cases resembling this lawsuit have also been seen in the past, although, these are still rare cases. These devices also use Lithium ion batteries that are known to be volatile, however, future devices are expected to shift to graphene cells, which are better at conducting heat.

Earlier this year, Renesas Electronics Corp’s chip-making plant in Naka, Japan suffered from fire damages. The company had said that 11 machines were damaged but now the company’s spokesperson says that it believes the damage was more extensive than first thought.
While the Renesas spokeswoman would not confirm a specific number, she added that the chipmaker would share the extent of the damage by Tuesday. As per the latest reports, it is believed that the number of inoperable machines was now believed to be around 17.
The company says that it will take at least a month for the production to resume at its 300mm wafer line at the fire-hit plant, but replacing damaged machines could take several months. An extended outage could add to a global shortage of chips which is disrupting some production of cars and electronic devices.
Renesas account for about 30 percent of the global market for microcontroller units used in cars, and two-thirds of the chips produced at the facility are for the auto industry.
The fire was reportedly caused by a power surge in one of the machines. This comes after an earthquake stopped production for three days last month. In 2011, the plant shut down for three months after the deadly earthquake that devastated Japan’s northeast coast.

In recent times, various display makers have launched their own iteration of a foldable display and have been developing the new breed of screen technology. And now, Tianma Microelectronics has announced a new CFOT foldable display, which arrives with various improvements like lowered power consumption.
The Chinese display manufacturer officially announced the new folding screen, which will be commercially available in the near future. This display would be aimed at foldable handsets from smartphone vendors. Furthermore, the display maker also announced that it seeks to develop and invest a lot of resources into the field of small and medium sized screens along with newer display technologies as well. Earlier this month, a new Galaxy S20 FE variant was certified by WiFi Alliance. This smartphone was spotted on NBTC last week with 4G connectivity. Now, a few days later, a new report reveals the chipset present in this handset.
According to a report by SamMobile, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S20 FE model will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. But the device will lack 5G connectivity. It will be limited to 4G, as confirmed by NBTC last week.
This variant of the Galaxy S20 FE will come with model number SM-G780G. It will have the exact same specs as the original Galaxy S20 FE variants, which were unveiled in September 2020. It will also have an MST chip for Samsung Pay, which is not found inside the Galaxy S21 series.
That said, it is not known why Samsung is set to release a new variant of Galaxy S20 FE months after the smartphone’s debut. For those unaware, this phone’s successor (Galaxy S21 FE) is reported to be in the works and could go official in August.
In related news, Samsung will start selling the original Galaxy S20 FE 5G in India starting tomorrow (March 30). This phone is expected to cost under ₹50,000 in India.
