Xiaomi announced its first smartwatch, the Mi Watch a couple of weeks back. Being a relatively new product category for Xiaomi, users had a couple of questions or rather issues with regards to the watch. Today, Xiaomi’s ecological chain (MIJIA) product director Cheng Liang answered the two major questions about the Mi Watch.
One of the big issues regarding the new Mi Watch was the slow charging speeds. Users were worried whether this was a permanent problem. However, Cheng Liang said that the charging issue on the Mi Watch will be fixed via an OTA update around early December. So, it looks like an issue in the software rather than the hardware.
Unfortunately, we can’t confirm whether this fix will be bundled with the December 3 OTA update. The first OTA update for Mi Watch will reportedly optimize several features, including first pairing, application market, dial market, notification prompts, input method interaction, and weather positioning.
Another big question was about Mi Watch’s eSIM. If you recall, we had reported that carriers like China Telecom haven’t yet configured eSIM networks in China. So you couldn’t use eSIM services in the country, which was one big reason why the new Motorola Razr 2019 foldable didn’t launch in the Chinese market. However, Liang said that eSIM services are expected to be opened by Chinese carriers around mid-December. Once it’s available, Xiaomi will enable eSIM support for the Mi Watch via an OTA update. So users won’t have to do anything from their end to activate the services.
The Xiaomi Mi Watch runs on Google’s WearOS platform with its own MIUI skin on top. It’s almost a mini smartphone coming with the ability to make and receive calls (via eSIM), connect to the internet, and even run apps like WeChat and DiDi.
Despite its stark resemblance to the Apple Watch, the Mi Watch tries to carve out its own identity via its software and features. You can read more about the watch from our Mi watch hands-on article.
Recently we covered the new pocket-sized gimbal released by Snoppa, the Vmate. It is a small gimbal with an embedded camera that you can carry anywhere as it can literally fit into your pocket. There are other similar products like this on the market like the well-known DJI Osmo Pocket and today, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAQlBPJm6kMSnoppa points out the differences between these two. Let’s see what they have to say.
For starters, the Vmate sports a 90 degrees rotatable lens and you can switch from horizontal to vertical orientation quickly. This is something very useful that the DJI Osmo Pocket is missing. In addition, the horizontal axis has a rotation range of 400 degrees so there are no blind spots or dead corners when shooting. On the other hand, DJI’s gimbal reaches up to just 280 degrees. That’s less than a turn.
When talking about connectivity, the Vmatec comes with WiFi built-in and you can preview what you’re shooting on your phone and also use the smartphone as a remote control. Thanks to that connection, the Vmate can wirelessly transmit 4k video files to the phone. The DJI Osmo Pocket is using a USB connection that after a period of time is easy to loosen resulting in poor contact and it’s even easier to break. Not to mention the fact that it’s not very practical when using it as the cable gets in the way. Using WiFi means that you can attach the Snoppa Vmate anywhere on the phone while the Osmo Pocket has to be placed only on the right side of the phone. Lastly, both come with USB Type-C ports at the bottom but Osmo’s uses USB 2.0 protocol which means reduced transmission speeds.
Both devices can shoot up to 4K@60fps video but the Vmate can also shoot slow-motion FHD video @240fps while the Osmo Pocket stays @120fps. In addition, Snoppa Vmate reaches up to 200Mbps bitrate and Osmo just 100Mbps. This means better video quality for the Vmate that has a new hardware module that does away with the focus issues found on Osmo.
Vmate and Osmo Pocket are similar in size but the Vmate handle is 5mm wider to offer a more comfortable grip and it also has a slightly larger display than the DJI. Also, the Vmate has built-in Bluetooth and can be externally connected to a Bluetooth microphone like Apple’s Airpods, Xiaomi, etc. And even more important is the dual microphone of the Vmate that offers 2 functions: Noise reduction or stereo sound recording.
The rest of the differences are found mostly in the software department. The Snoppa Vmate app offers a unique PIP mode besides the standard POV, time-lapse, panorama, and other modes. The PIP mode uses the smartphone’s front camera and vloggers love it. Finally, the Vmate has a TF card slot protected against water and also a lanyard hole if you prefer to carry it on your wrist. The Snoppa Vmate is currently in production and you can preorder it on Indiegogo at a discounted price.
If you thought Redmi and Realme had the best budget smartphone options in India, Vivo is here to change your opinion. The Chinese smartphone company has announced the new Vivo U20 model that features a Snapdragon 675 processor along with a very large 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. The U20 has the hardware and pricing to take on both, Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5S smartphones.
The Vivo U20 Specs include a Snapdragon 675 processor
While Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5S feature Snapdragon 665 chipset, the new Vivo U20 takes things a step forward with Snapdragon 675. There are 4GB and 6GB RAM options with 64GB of storage and a hybrid MicroSD card slot onboard. For display, the Vivo U20 comes with a 6.5-inch FHD+ 2340 x 1080p IPS LCD screen and a 90.5 percent screen to body ratio. Since its a budget device, the phone is built out of plastic.
At the back, the Vivo U20 features a triple camera setup. The primary camera is the Sony IMX499 16MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture while there are two other sensors: a 120° degree 8MP super wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro lens that can shoot objects as close as 4cm. Upfront, the phone features a 16MP selfie camera housed in a waterdrop notch.
One of the biggest highlights of the Vivo U20 is the battery on board. The phone features a 5000mAh battery that comes with an 18W fast charger right inside the box. Even with such a large battery, the phone is both lighter (193 grams) and thinner (8.9mm) than the Realme 5S.
U20 still features MicroUSB unlike the Redmi Note 8
For software, the Vivo U20 comes with Android 9 Pie with Funtouch OS 9 skin on top. The company also confirmed support for Widevine L1 certification, so streaming HD content on Netflix and Prime Video apps shouldn’t be an issue. As for the other connectivity features, you get a fingerprint sensor at the back, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, and Galileo. Available sensors include an accelerometer, proximity sensor, magnetometer, ambient light sensor, and gyroscope.
Vivo U20 Pricing & Availability
Vivo U20 will go on sale on November 28 at 12 PM in India via Amazon.in and Vivo’s online store. The 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant starts at Rs. 10,990 ($153) while the 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant is priced at Rs. 11,990 ($167).
There are two color options at launch: Racing Black and Blaze Blue.
The Huawei Nova 6 5G arrives in a few weeks and today, Huawei has released a promotional video that doesn’t hide anything about the design. The new video comes a few days after the first video ad that showed us just the front of the device.
Unlike the first ad which is animated, this new video ad shows the real device in use. The video shows the Nova 6 5G in blue, the second color variant we have seen. The first being the red version leaked by Evan Blass earlier this month.
The Nova 6 5G appears to have a mesmerizing light effect depending on the angle it is held.
The back of the phone houses three cameras and an LED flash vertically arranged and housed together. Flanking the sensors is a laser focus module.
There isn’t a fingerprint scanner on the back but it isn’t under the display either as the screen is LCD and not AMOLED. Huawei has put the sensor on the side where it doubles as a power button.
Unlike the render leaked by Evan Blass, the Nova 6 5G in the video doesn’t have the Nova logo on the back but Huawei’s own branding.
It has been reported that the Nova 6 5G will be powered by the Kirin 990 5G processor. It will have 32MP + 12MP dual front-facing cameras and a 60MP primary rear camera. The phone will arrive with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a 4000mAh battery, and support for 40W SuperCharge fast charge.
The Redmi K30 is scheduled to arrive in December as the very first 5G phone from Xiaomi’s subsidiary. Ahead of its release date which is still unknown, live photos of the device have been posted on the web and they reveal some very key details.
First, the images don’t give us a look at the design save for the display and this is because the phone has a case on. We do get a good look at the punch-hole that houses dual selfie cameras. We believe the hole will be noticeable for the first few weeks but owners will definitely get used to it.
What the photos do show us is a generous amount of details thanks to the fact that they were taken with system information app, AIDA64, running.
The Redmi K30 has a 6.66-inch display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. While the exact processor is unknown, we do know it is a Qualcomm SoC as the GPU is the Adreno 618. This is the GPU for the Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G and it appears Qualcomm is using it for the SM7250 too.
One important info the first image reveals is that the device has a 120Hz refresh rate which is really exciting news. Xiaomi may be late when it comes to adopting displays with a high refresh rate but it isn’t settling for 90Hz but going for 120Hz.
Another of the image shows the Display Settings menu where users will be able to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz. The menu does mention that switching to a lower refresh rate will save battery. Under this menu, users will also be able to turn on reading mode and dark mode.
The third image is the About Phone page and it shows the Redmi K30 is running MIUI 11 version 9.11.18. This variant also has 64GB of storage and is most likely the base model. There definitely will be other configurations but we hope there is support for storage expansion.
We are pretty excited about the Redmi K30 and its 120Hz refresh rate. We are also looking forward to its camera performance. However, we expect the device will sell for higher than the Redmi K20 when it launches.
The Trump administration is reportedly considering to exempt Apple from the upcoming round of China tariffs on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks reports WSJ. While this would ensure Apple devices stay competitive, Samsung’s current manufacturing situation could have a greater role to play in this decision.
Most of Apple’s manufacturing is based in China. So a tariff on imports from China will adversely affect the Cupertino giant’s sales in the country. And with iPhones and Macbooks becoming costlier, other brands like Samsung would get an unfair advantage. That’s because Samsung has shifted most of its smartphone and device manufacturing outside of China, in huge factories based in countries like Vietnam and India. So if Apple was to bear the brunt of the recent China tariffs, iPhones would get a lot more expensive as compared to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy series in the U.S.
“The problem we have is you have Samsung, it’s a great company, but it’s a competitor of Apple. And it’s not fair because we have a trade deal, we made a great trade deal with South Korea. But we have to treat Apple in a somewhat similar basis as we treat Samsung,” Trump was quoted as saying by WSJ.
Trump made this statement during his visit to the new $1 billion, 133-acre campus in Austin, Texas that’s being constructed beside the already-functional Mac Pro production facility. The campus will house 5,000 employees when it opens in 2022, which can be further scaled to accommodate 15,000 employees in the future.
Probably you don’t have much knowledge about this brand. What if I tell that the brand Realme? Realme is growing rapidly in the India smartphone market in 2019. Well, it’s owned by the brand OPPO. All the technologies you want to experience on Realme smartphones came from OPPO. And another hot brand, OnePlus, also has a pretty strong relationship with OPPO. Their founder, Pete Liu, was also from the OPPO company. Another important information about OPPO is that it is one of the top-five smartphone brands in China. So, considering the intensity of the smartphone industry in China, OPPO is pretty a successful tech-company with a large influence over the smartphone industry.
OPPO Reno Ace Gundam edition hands on
Gundam edition
This time OPPO set up a new standard with its latest model, the OPPO Reno Ace Gundam limited edition, telling its rivals what is exactly the right way to customize special editions in co-branding.
If you are a super fan of anime, Gundam series is absolutely an artwork that you never want to miss. But I believe most of you have heard its name. Bandai Visual, the production company has planned multiple activities and all kinds of souvenirs to celebrate Gundam’s 40th anniversary.
Design & appearance
The design of the Gundam version is inspired by the RX-78-2 Gundam, as known as White Mobile Suit, making its debut in the 1979 original episodes of Gundam anime. It’s pretty exciting when we first saw the classic Gundam colors, white, blue, and red. Apart from the phone itself, OPPO also did a lot of thinking in detail to present why it’s called Gundam limited edition, such as the redesigned package, a special phone case, the unique charging cable, a Gundam charger. If you love the anime, you definitely won’t be disappointed for the full Gundam elements from the hardware to the software design. Especially when you saw a medal of the 40th anniversary, Yes, it’s breathtaking.
Compared to the Gundam design, it seems that the phone specifications are less important. However, OPPO is so generous this time that it equipped all kinds of flagship-level hardware. Considering that the OPPO smartphone used not to be known with high-cost performance, the change here is worth having some applause. A 6.5-inch 90Hz display plus snapdragon 855 Plus provides great gaming experience. The phone features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with 20:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 2400 pixels screen resolution, and 90Hz refresh rate. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Performance & gaming
Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core processor along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage. The company says that there’s a heat dissipation pipe for regulating its internal temperature. In our test, when playing PUBG Mobile, it can easily maintain the highest framerate with the highest-graphic setting. Once the games like PUBG Mobile open their framerate limitation, such kind of phones with high refresh-rate display would absolutely become the most popular gaming phones.
65W Fast Charging
The 4000mAh battery with 65W superfast charging makes the phone become one of the smartphones with the best endurance performance. In our test, you can get a full charge for this 4000mAh battery only in around 30mins. By charging it only for 5 minutes, the battery can gain 27 percent power. And the Reno Ace has pretty good charging compatibility. It also supports other rapid charging technologies like USB-PD and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge.
Cameras
As for the camera combination, the OPPO Reno Ace brought 4 rear cameras to meet different photography requirements. A 48MP SONY IMX586 camera for primary use, a 13MP telephoto camera with 5x hybrid zoom capacity, an 8MP super-wide-angle camera and a 2MP monochrome camera.
The OPPO Reno maintains its likable color style with high saturation. Meanwhile, 48MP resolution provides good sharpness for daily shooting. The wide-angle camera is quite practical for landscape photography. But a problem is that the color differences between the primary camera and the wide-angle camera are a bit obvious. For some night scenes, Reno Ace provides a night mode to balance the general exposure. From the sample, it did achieve a better brightness in general but still had overexposure at some extremely bright detail.

Conclusion
If you like the appearance design of the Gundam edition, there will be no need to worry about the performance. it could somehow fill your dreams that happened in your childhood when you watched the Gundam anime and wished you would be able to have a Gundam Mobile suit. Well, for this time, you can have it but just in a different way, a daily-used machine.
As for the pricing, the OPPO Reno Ace Gundam Edition is priced at 3,599 Yuan which roughly converts to $505. The company has also announced Unicorn Gundam C1 gamepad for the phone, which will go on sale from 11th November for 299 Yuan (~$42).
Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy Fold smartphone will reportedly come with clamshell form factor. Now, a new report related to the smartphone claims that the Galaxy Fold 2 aka Bloom, will come with a small cover display with limited interactivity.
As per the report, the cover display will primarily be used by the company just to show notifications along with some other basic information such as battery info while charging. A couple of charging animations seemingly designed for the Fold 2’s exterior display have been discovered in the One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy Note 9.
According to the source, the smaller cover display will have a much narrower aspect ratio in reality and that they should depict an animated circle as opposed to a rectangle with rounded corners.
Based on the design rumors, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will be similar to the Motorola Razr foldable smartphone which also comes with a clamshell design. However, there’s a possibility that the Galaxy Fold 2 may also have a direct sequel to the existing Galaxy Fold, one that would not have a clamshell design.
A few months ago, it was reported that the next-generation Galaxy Fold smartphone will come with 256GB of internal storage, half of the 512GB storage in the current-generation model. It is said that the phone will have a cheaper price tag to increase adoptability of foldable smartphones in the market.
MIUI 11 brought the dark mode to a lot of Xiaomi and Redmi devices in the market. However, some phones running MIUI didn’t get a system-wide dark mode, so there were a lot of third-party apps that didn’t support it. But that changes with the MIUI 12 as one of the company’s engineers has confirmed that the new version will support a global system-wide dark mode.
Apart from confirming this, he also commented on the recent rumor of OPPO poaching MIUI and FlymeOS engineers for its own ColorOS development. He said that MIUI engineers are working 13 hours a day which leaves them with no time for interviews. So it will be hard for OPPO to poach MIUI engineers.
He also answered the question of why MIUI 11’s AOD screen didn’t support custom GIF loop playback animations. In this regard, he said that custom GIF animations on AOD will bring power consumption issues, which is why MIUI’s AOD doesn’t support this feature.

Huawei has scheduled a launch event in China on 25th November where the company is expected to launch a few new products, including the Huawei MatePad Pro as well as the Huawei Sound X smart speaker. Now, the company had teased the launch of another product — MateBook D.
Today, the company has confirmed that it will also be launching a new notebook during the same event. Huawei has revealed by sharing a teaser poster on Weibo that the company will be launching the Huawei MateBook D at its 25th November launch event in China.
Apart from the name of the product and its launch date, the company has not yet revealed more details about the MateBook D. However, the teaser poster bears some information related to the device.
It can seen in the poster that the notebook will come with two USB ports on the side as well as 3.5mm headphone jack. It is believed that the design of the upcoming Huawei MateBook D will be different from the previous generation devices and the company seems to be focusing more towards the business-class design.
We expect the company to offer more screen-to-body ratio and keep offering the narrow bezel design for the display and some more features to increase productivity. We expect the company to shed more light about this device before its launch through social media teasers, similar to what Huawei is doing with the MatePad Pro and Sound X.
It remains to be seen what the company is planning to launch at the 25th November event in China apart from these three known products — MateBook D, MatePad Pro, and Sound X smart speaker.
A new Xiaomi smartphone with support for 5G has passed through 3C certification process. While the name of the device in question has not been revealed, it’s likely to be the Redmi K30 series device.
During Xiaomi Developers Conference, the company’s founder and CEO Lei Jun had said that the Redmi K30 smartphone will get launched in December this year. The smartphone is confirmed to support dual-mode 5G which includes SA and NSA mode.
Also, this will be the first dual-mode 5G smartphone from Xiaomi. The 3C certification claims that the smartphone will come with a charger having model number MDY-11-EF (CC9 Pro) and will support 30W fast charging technology.
Earlier, the company had shared a partial image of the upcoming Redmi K30 smartphone which revealed that the device will come with a punch-hole display with a pill-shaped cut-out for housing two front-facing cameras.
A recent report claimed that Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphones which carries codename ‘Pheonix’ will come with 120Hz refresh rate display and will have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The report goes on to add that the smartphone could very well be the upcoming Redmi K30.
If this turns out to be true, then it is a huge deal to get 120Hz refresh rate display on an upper-midrange smartphone like Redmi K30 given that the 90Hz refresh rate is going mainstream now that too for flagship smartphones. The smartphone is also expected to feature Sony IMx686 60MP sensor and dual-mode 5G (supports SA/ NSA).
The launch of Redmi K30 next month was a surprising announcement by Lei Jun given that Lu Weibing, General Manager of the Redmi brand had previously announced that the Redmi K30 series will get launched next month. However, this could mean that the Redmi K30 will get launched in December this year while the Pro model will go official next year.
OPPO is one of the biggest phone companies in the world with a product portfolio that covers all categories. The manufacturer is also a pioneer when it comes to designs and technologies. Now OPPO is taking things a step further by developing its own mobile processor called the OPPO M1.
First reported by LetsGoDigital, OPPO Mobile filed a trademark application on November 20 at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The trademark description says it is for or related to a mobile processor.
Based on this, OPPO will be joining the likes of Samsung, Huawei, Apple, and Xiaomi whom all have their own mobile processors. It has been reported that OPPO has poached several engineers from Unisoc (Spreadtrum) and MediaTek.
There are no details about the specifications of the OPPO M1 yet but there are speculations we may find out more early next year. LetGoDigital says OPPO may reveal details about the processor at MWC 2020 or at next year’s edition of Semicon China scheduled to hold in March. It is also reported that it may be much later in the year, specifically during Mobile World Congress Shanghai.
OPPO has invested a lot in research and development, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise. However, OPPO’s entry into the chip business will definitely bring big changes to its products. An in-house chip can ensure better communication between its products just as Apple’s products work better with each other.
Realme is gradually spreading its tentacles into Europe. The Old Continent even got the Realme X2 Pro before India, which is one of its largest markets. Now, the manufacturer has announced the more affordable Realme 5 just in time for the holidays.
The Realme 5 lands in Europe with a price tag of €169 and that gets you the 4GB RAM+128GB version. That isn’t too bad considering the same version sells for INR 10,999 (~€139) in India. The phone will be available in Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple.
The Realme 5 has a 6.5–inch Mini-drop FullScreen display with an HD+ resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 665 processor and packs a 5000mAh battery.
There are four cameras on the back of the phone – a 12MP f/1.8 main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, a 2MP portrait camera, and a 2MP 4cm macro camera. There is a 13MP sensor in front for selfies.
The Realme 5 has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Dual-SIM support, and a dedicated MicroSD card slot. It runs Android Pie with ColorOS on top. For connectivity, you get a MicroUSB port, an audio jack, and Bluetooth 5.0.
Realme says the phone will be on sale at 22:00 CET on November 27 for €159. So you may want to wait till then to get it for less. We don’t know if the other Realme phones sold in Europe will be discounted but there is no harm in checking.
The Realme Europe page says they currently only ship to Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom only.
There are multiple ways to incorporate a secondary display into a device depending on the design, and one such way is to place a second display on the other side of the phone. This is exactly what Xiaomi has done in a patent that has popped up online.
A sketch for the Xiaomi patent has surfaced online and it shows a device with two displays – one on each side. However, this secondary display on the rear is not like that of phones like the Vivo NEX Dual Display or Nubia Z20. Heck! It doesn’t even look like the secondary display of the Meizu Pro 7 Plus. Instead, it is a much smaller display, the same size as the quad-camera housing on the back of the phone.
The sketch shows the screen is placed on the opposite side of the camera housing for symmetry. The display will most likely show caller ID and notification alerts when the phone is placed face down. It should also be able to display miniature controls for music playback.
On the front, the device is shown to have a practically bezel-less design. The primary screen is devoid of a punch hole or notch and the top frame manages to squeeze in a speaker, a proximity sensor, and a notification sensor. There is no selfie camera which means the quad rear sensors will serve a dual function but that is odd since the rear display is too small to serve as a proper viewfinder.
There are no details of the patent just this sketch. So we do not know when it was filed. Nevertheless, this like many more designs we have seen in the past may not appear in a commercially-available device.
