Flipkart and Amazon India have achieved record sales this festive season!

The ongoing festive season sales have turned to be the latest battleground for India’s top two online retailers to achieve supremacy of this fast-expanding market. Walmart-backed Flipkart and Amazon India have both claimed record sales on the first day of sales on the back of strong demand from cities beyond the major metros.

Flipkart claimed that it recorded two times sales growth on the first day of the festive sales, compared to last year’s opening day sales of the TBBD, as the number of transacting customers from Tier II, III, IV cities doubled. Travel is the fastest-growing category on Flipkart, with 12X growth compared to last year, according to the company.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, chief executive, Flipkart in a statement said: “There is no doubt that e-commerce has not only lifted consumer sentiment but has also driven the industry to set new benchmarks. Affordability and value-driven themes clearly are the pulsating chords for India and Bharat. We are in the centre of it all and are able to serve the ecosystem for their unique needs.”

Amazon India aren’t resting on their laurels either. According to Amazon’s senior vice-president Amit Agarwal, the company also saw the single-largest day of Prime sign-ups, with 66 per cent of Prime members shopping in 24 hours coming from tier II and tier III towns. The company added that 91 per cent of new customers were from smaller cities.

“Whether it is the Diwali festival season or any other shopping event, the primary objective for us is to add as many new customers as we can and convert the existing customer into Prime members. We are relevant to customers, no matter the macroeconomic conditions,” said Agarwal.

Flipkart’s The Big Billion Days (TBBD) started on Saturday night (8pm), while Amazon India’s Great Indian Festival sales began on Saturday noon for Prime subscribers and opened for all 12 hours later. Both festive sales will come to a close on October 4th, if you’re in India you’ll probably want to rush for a new device before the sales are over.

OPPO is the official smartphone partner for League of Legends

OPPO has just announced that it is the official smartphone partner for League of Legends starting 2019. This will be a multi-year deal where the sponsorship will continue till 2024. The smartphone maker will sponsor the Mid-Season Invitational, the All-Star Event, and the World Championship.

OPPO League of Legends

This partnership marks OPPO’s first entry into the e-sports big leagues. The smartphone maker will join the likes of Mastercard, Alienware, and Louis Vuitton as the official sponsor of the game. This move isn’t surprising since OPPO has sponsored big names such as FC Barcelona, Wimbledon, and even ICC (International Cricket Council). Given this announcement today, it won’t be surprising to see a limited League of Legends edition for one of its flagships later this year. The company follows a similar tradition after its FC Barcelona tie-up. We have already seen FC Barcelona Editions for the Reno 10X Zoom, R11, and even R9 models.

Starting the 2019 World Championship of LoL, OPPO will have activations for ‘MVP Presented by OPPO’, ‘OPPO Cam’ for behind-the-scenes footage, and ‘Welcome to the Rift’ for teams making an inaugural appearance at the World Championships.

“Esports is a fast-growing sport globally, and League of Legends has become a lifestyle of many young people in recent years,” said Brian Shen, OPPO Vice President and President of Global Marketing. “As a consumer-centered brand, OPPO always seeks the right way to communicate with young people, our target audience. This is a great move for Riot and OPPO; the partnership will allow us to continue to strengthen our bond with the young as we join them in celebrating the victory of each game.”

Huawei has already begun working on 6G reports CEO, Ren Zhengfei

When it comes to the development of 5G network and compatible networking equipment, Chinese tech titan, Huawei comes out on top. While most countries in the world are still working to embrace 5G, which is deemed the next generation of mobile telecommunication, Huawei has already begun research on 6G claims company CEO, Ren Zhengfei.Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO

According to the official translation of his Mandarin comments, Huawei has been parallelly working on both 5G and 6G. However, the “development of 6G” is still in its “early phase” and there is still “a long way to go” before it is commercially available. While providing a time period, he stated that the technology is about 10 odd years out from now.

As previously mentioned, 5G is currently regarded as the next generation of telecommunication. For readers who are unaware, the data speeds that it promises will serve as the underpinning technology for driverless cars and critical control of remote devices like heavy machinery. As of now, the adoption of 5G has been limited to a handful of countries like the UK and South Korea, whilst China is expected to implement it soon.

6G The senior Huawei official stated that before 6G becomes a reality, the industry needs to set the standards which could take years to form. Besides, it is still unclear what will be the uses and applications of this technology.

With that being said, Huawei is currently concentrating its resources and efforts in 5G and it might take a long time before we hear about 6G from the company again. Nonetheless, we will update you if the company shares any further details about its development, so stay tuned.

No other Mi MIX smartphone launching this year, confirms Xiaomi executive

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi MIX Alpha concept smartphone with a staggering price tag of 19,999 Yuan, which roughly converts to $2,807. The phone features a wraparound display and is the world’s first to come with a camera sensor of over 100-megapixel.

The company has already confirmed that the Mi MIX Alpha will go on sale with limited quantities. So, there have been reports about Xiaomi working on another Mi MIX smartphone having some of the features of MiX Alpha that can be mass produced.

Some reports are hinting at Mi MIX 4 which will feature 108-megapixel camera sensor from Samsung, the same one that’s present on the Mi MIX Alpha. We also recently reported that the phone is expected to launch in October, as the listing on JD.com suggested.

Edward Bishop Mi MIX Alpha Claim

However, Xiaomi China’s brand promotion manager and president of the conference, Edward Bishop, confirmed through a post on Weibo that there won’t be any other Mi MIX series smartphone getting launched this year.

The smartphone getting launched in October is not a part of Mi MIX series but will instead be a part of the newly introduced Mi CC series. This also puts the rumours to rest related to a MIX series smartphone with 16GB RAM by several Chinese publications.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is the world’s first smartphone with a curved display that wraps around almost the entire device. Except for the tiny vertical strip that houses the camera at the back, the display surrounds the entire smartphone, including the sides and the back.

This is a single display panel of 7.92-inch that wraps around the entire body bringing the screen to body ratio to a staggering 180.6%! This is made possible also because of the extremely narrow 2.15mm bezels on the top and the bottom.

The device is confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 855+ processor with 5G dual SIM support. There will be at least one version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The battery isn’t very large at 4,050mAh but it does support 40W fast charging just like the Mi 9 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha featured
Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is like a permanently folded phone

It is also the world’s first smartphone to feature a 100MP+ resolution camera sensor. This is made possible by using the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX 108MP camera sensor at the back of the device. The sensor was developed in close collaboration with Xiaomi, hence it’s no surprise that we are seeing it first on the Mi Mix Alpha 5G.

The 108MP primary sensor on the Mi Mix Alpha is ultra-large with a 1/1.33″ sensor which is capable of outputting 12032 x 9024-pixel resolution images. It is coupled with a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera lens.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha will be produced on a very small scale on a trial basis at first. The company has priced it at a staggering 19,999 Yuan (~$2814), which is even more than Samsung’s new foldable smartphone.

Honor Band 5 gets support for changing Music Track and Volume via latest update

In the month of July, Honor launched the Honor Band 5 which is a fitness-oriented smart wearable. The key highlighting features of the device include an AMOLED display, SPo2 meter, and long battery backup. Earlier today, the company announced that the Honor Band 5 will get an all new feature which is useful for music lovers.

With the latest update, the Honor Band 5 will allow its users to remotely pause or change the music track on their smartphone. Besides, it can also be used to increase or decrease the volume which we feel is a handy addition. The feature is compatible with all Android devices that are running Android 5.0 or a newer version.

Honor Band 5 Music Control copy

An ideal situation for using this feature would be while running or working out. While most users tend to use a pair of wireless headphones when performing a physical activity, pulling out their smartphone every time to modify playback options is a cumbersome task.

Therefore, the latest feature on the Honor Band 5 can simplify this process to a great extent. As it is much easier to use the fitness band which is strapped to the wrist rather than a smartphone which is often kept in a denim pocket or bag.

All in all, the ability to change tracks and alter volume via the Honor Band 5 is a worthwhile addition. Besides, the Mi Band 4 from Xiaomi already supports this feature. Hence, the latest update will allow Honor’s offering to better take on its rival.

If you want to see a detailed comparison between the two fitness bands, you can do so by clicking here.

Xiaomi users are reportedly getting banned from Pokémon Go

To ensure fair play for online games and services, companies routinely ban users who they deem problematic, which includes violating terms of service, community guidelines, or cheating. However, it seems that some players of Pokémon Go game are being banned for something far less conventional — using a Xiaomi smartphone.

Xiaomi Pokemon Go Ban

If the reports on Reddit are to be believed, then Niantic, the company behind Pokémon Go game, is banning users with Xiaomi devices even though they have done nothing wrong. Some users are speculating that anti-cheating measures built into Pokémon Go are misidentifying an app or system process which is unique to Xiaomi phones.

The players are getting banned with a 30-day suspension to permanent account closures. From the report, it seems that the ban issue may only affect certain devices from Xiaomi, running MIUI 10.3.2 but it has not been confirmed if that’s the only culprit. Niantic has not yet responded to this matter.

Pokémon Go is an augmented reality (AR) game by developed by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for Android and iOS devices. It uses the mobile device GPS to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual ‘Pokémon’, which appear as if they are in the player’s real-world location. It uses freemium business model and supports in-app purchases for additional in-game items.

Launched in 2016, the game was one of the most used and profitable mobile apps of 2016. By early 2019, the game had crossed over 1 billion downloads worldwide, grossing over $3 billion in revenue. The game, which now has over 480 Pokémon, had over 147 million monthly active users as of May 2018.
