Blackview BV9800 Pro coming soon to bring thermal camera designed for outdoor adventures

Blackview is known for making phones for adventurers as they make some of the best rugged phones out there. Adventures, by definition, should include elements of fun, thrills, and sometimes even danger. But if you carry reliable gear, you have nothing to fear. Blackview recently launched the new rugged BV9800 Pro, the first thermal camera phone designed for outdoor adventures.

Blackview BV9800 ProThe BV9800 Pro helps serious adventurers increase situational awareness via the integrated FLIR® Lepton® that “sees” heat which is invisible to the human eye. Thermal vision is a key capability in areas of national defense, public safety, and firefighting and provides diagnostic capabilities for utilities, construction, and inspection. The ability to create an image based on differences in heat allows users to see in total darkness and know the temperature of all the objects in the scene. In addition, the BV9800 Pro comes with a Sony® 48MP camera as well as the standard IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810G certifications that all Blackview rugged devices come with. Also, there is GPS/GLONASS/BEIDOU navigation systems, air-pressure sensor, and a 6580mAh battery that offers a battery life of up to 840 hours in standby or 27 hours of talk time.

Blackview BV9800 Pro

A thermal camera may seem like a gimmick but it can prove to be useful in a number of situations. For example, imagine that you are out camping in the forest and start a campfire to warm or cook. To make sure that the fire is out before you leave, you can use the thermal camera to check because it is very common for fires to seem extinguished but they rise again. It is similar to what firefighters do to check for any “hotspots”. The BV9800 Pro can confirm that a campfire is completely out before you go to sleep or break camp. And while sitting around the campfire, you can see if that noise in the darkness is an animal or your friend trying to scare you.

Blackview BV9800 ProMany animals are naturally camouflaged and very hard to see with the naked eye, even when they in plain sight. Wildlife photographers can often use the thermal-camera capability of the BV9800 Pro to spot an animal’s heat (unless hidden by foliage or behind terrain). With the exact position of the animal known, you can change the lens to the Sony® 48MP camera to capture photos of animals in their natural environments.

Blackview BV9800 Pro

Specialized thermal cameras are used in public safety for search and rescue and suspect pursuit. They are especially valuable after dark when a traditional camera is useless. There are countless news stories of lost hikers, children, or pets being found using a thermal camera at night. Unfortunately, accidents can happen in the great outdoors, and a BV900 Pro can be a useful tool in low-light conditions or total darkness. Capable of seeing a person-sized object at up to 30 meters away in the dark, the new BV9800 Pro provides aid for detecting people or other warmer objects in total darkness. To learn more about it and how its new thermal imaging features can help you in various situations, check the product page here.

Europe’s Honor 9X Pro will differ from Chinese version

The Honor 9X Pro is heading to Europe more than two months after it launched in China. However, when it does, there will be a major difference between the European version and the one sold in China.

According to Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414), press renders of the Honor 9X Pro heading to the Old Continent, show the phone has its fingerprint scanner on the back. Yes, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and not a side-mounted one like the Chinese variant.

As at the time of writing, we do not know why Honor is making this change. We also cannot say if this will be the same for the model launching in other markets such as India.

Other than the change in the position of the fingerprint scanner, we have not learned of any other differences. Based on that, the Honor 9X Pro should arrive in Europe with a 6.59-inch FHD+ display, a 16MP pop-up selfie camera, and a 48MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera setup.

It should have the Kirin 810 processor with 8GB of RAM, though there is a chance it may get a 6GB RAM version too. Storage should also be 128GB or 256GB. Other features are a 4000mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, an audio jack, and EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie. The press renders show the phone will be available in Magic Night Black and Phantom Purple.

There is still no date for the launch but once we know, we will share it with you.

HMD Global confirms Android 10 update for its entry-level smartphones

Weeks after Google officially started rolling out the new Android 10 update to its smartphones, the company announced the Android 10 (Go Edition) earlier this week. Now, HMD Global, the company behind Nokia has confirmed the Android 10 update for its entry-level smartphones.

The Finnish company has revealed that the Nokia 1 Plus, which runs Android Pie Go Edition, will be getting the Android 10 Go Edition update in the first quarter of 2020.

Another smartphone is Nokia 2.1, which was released back in August last year running Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition). It was the first Android Go Edition phone to get Pie update back in February this year.

Now, the company has confirmed that the Android 10 update will roll out for the phone in Q2 2020. On the other hand, the Nokia 1 was introduced back in March last year running Android 8.1 (Oreo) Go Edition, and it received Pie update back in June. Purported Huawei Mate X 2’s design revealed through patent filings

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, Huawei had showcased the Huawei Mate X foldable phone. It is expected to hit the market in the coming month. A new patent that was filed by Huawei with United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in February was been granted approval on Sept. 26. The same patent was also included in the database of World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The new patent showcases a design for a foldable phone like Mate X along with a dedicated slot for a stylus.

In the renders created from the patent images of the new foldable phone design by Lets Go Digital, the compartment for the stylus can be seen in the side bar where the camera system is present. Somehow the company could be making a space to insert the stylus in the sidebar. The Mate X has a USB-C port in the same location. Probably, this could be the design of the rumored Mate X 2.

The visualizations of the alleged Mate X 2 suggest that the addition of a stylus compartment could result in reduction of battery size. At present, there is no information available on the specifications of the successor of the Mate X.

Alleged Huawei Mate X 2 Design with stylus

It is not the first time that the Huawei phone has been seen with a stylus. The Mate 20 X phablet from last year that featured a massive 7.2-inch display supported the company’s M Pen stylus. Since a foldable phone offers user with a larger experience, the inclusion of a stylus will offer better productivity experience. The Mate X has a price tag of 2,300 euros. Hence, it remains to be seen whether the purported successor model with stylus support commands a costlier price tag.

Alleged Huawei Mate X 2 Design

Huawei is expected to announce its new P-series of flagship phones in the first quarter of 2020. Probably, the company may also unleash the purported Mate X 2 with stylus support alongside the next P-series phones.

What’s your opinion on the design of the alleged successor of the Mate X? Share us your thoughts by posting your comments below.

Moto Z2 Play starts receiving Android Pie updates via OTA

Motorola has reportedly started pushing Android Pie update to the Moto Z2 Play. This is coming more than a year after Android Pie was released and the Pie has even got a successor which has started rolling out for over a month running now.  Several members of the XDA community have reported getting OTA updates for Android Pie.

The update may be coming quite late but it is better late than never. Android Pie brings several features that aren’t available on phones running Android Oreo. The Moto Z2 Play is the midrange version of the Moto Z2 and was released in 2017 running Android Nougat. It got updated to Android Oreo last year. This update may be the last that Motorola will push to the model.

Since after Motorola was sold by Google to Lenovo, software update doesn’t seem to be a priority. We the company was still owned by Google, Android updates were faster. We can recall Motorola phones usually get updates around the same time as Google’s Nexus phones. In some cases, the Motorola devices even got it even faster, like the original Moto X which got Android 4.4 KitKat before the Nexus 4.

As with the Oreo update for the Moto Z2 Play which first rolled out in Brazil, Z2 Play users in Brazil have started receiving the update. We expect the OTA to be pushed to Z2 Play users in other regions.
