Redmi Note 8 camera samples showcase its low-light photography capabilities

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is all set to launch its next-gen Redmi Note series smartphones in China — Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro. After sharing a few camera samples of the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the brand’s general manager has now shared samples of the Redmi Note 8 smartphone on Weibo.

The camera samples of the upcoming Redmi Note 8 smartphone showcases the phone’s capabilities when it comes with low-light photography. Along with this, he has also confirmed that the phone will have a 48 MP primary sensor in its AI quad-camera setup.

Out of the two images shared by Lu Weibing, one of them is shot using the Super Night Mode while the other one is shot using Long Exposure. He also claims that the phone offers superb day-light photography experience. Looking at the camera samples, the phone seems to be offering an impressive output.

The company recently confirmed the camera specifications of the Redmi Note 8 smartphone. The 48 MP primary camera sensor will be paired with a super wide-angle lens, depth of field camera sensor, and a super macro camera lens. This confirmed that the fourth camera is not a ToF sensor.

It also confirmed that the phone will come with a different camera design from that of the Pro model as seen in the image above. While the camera sensors on the Pro variant are aligned vertically and placed in the top-center position, the vertically-aligned camera sensors on the Redmi Note 8 are placed in the top-left position.

In the top-center position, there’s a fingerprint sensor for added security. It has been confirmed that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 665 processor. The poster also seems to be hinting that the smartphone will be available in a white-blue gradient color variant.

Along with the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro smartphones, the company will also be launching its 70-inch Redmi TV at its launch event on 29th August in China. To know the phone’s pricing and availability details, we’ll have to wait for a couple of days.

Samsung begins pre-registration for the Galaxy Fold smartphone in China

Samsung announced its first foldable smartphone — Samsung Galaxy Fold earlier this year. However, days before the phone was scheduled to go on sale, it’s launch was postponed as many reviewers started complaining about the phone’s display breaking in just a couple of days of usage.

After around three excruciating months for the company’s foldable department, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Fold smartphone will be officially released in September. However, no launch date has been revealed by the company. Now, Samsung China has started taking pre-registration for the Galaxy Fold smartphone on its website.

Samsung Galaxy Fold featured

Samsung had explained that it made several important changes to the phone’s design addressing the flaws in the original product. Further, it added that the phone was put through ‘rigorous tests’ to validate this new design. In an official release, the South Korean giant explains the key changes made to the phone’s design. They are as follows:

  • The top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display has been extended beyond the bezel, making it apparent that it is an integral part of the display structure and not meant to be removed.
  • Galaxy Fold features additional reinforcements to better protect the device from external particles while maintaining its signature foldable experience:
  • The top and bottom of the hinge area have been strengthened with newly added protection caps.
    • Additional metal layers underneath the Infinity Flex Display have been included to reinforce the protection of the display.
    • The space between the hinge and body of Galaxy Fold has been reduced.

Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone presents a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display with a 1536 x 2152 pixels screen resolution. In this mode, you can use three apps at the same time which Samsung calls Three-app Multitasking.

When folded into phone mode, it offers a 4.6-inch display with 840 x 1960 pixels screen resolution. It comes with a feature called App Continuity which automatically adjust an app when you switch screens. It is powered by a 7nm processor paired with 12GB of RAM and packs 512GB of internal storage using UFS 3.0 technology.

The phone comes with a camera module that’s made up of a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP telephoto camera, and another 12MP wide-angle camera. On the front side, it comes with a 10MP sensor. It runs the latest Samsung One UI with Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box. The phone packs a 4,380mAh battery which is split into two units.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold retains the same price tag as before, $1980. Since the company has started pre-registrations for the same, the launch of Samsung’s first foldable smartphone should be just days away.

Honor President confirms Honor V30 to come with support for 5G connectivity

Soon after Xiaomi’s VP Lu Weibing confirmed the Redmi K30 smartphone with 5G support, Zhao Ming, President of Honor, has confirmed on Weibo that the Honor V30 will be the brand’s first 5G smartphone.

He has revealed that not only the Honor V30 will come with 5G support, the smartphone will also have support for full 5G SA and NSA network, similar to the flagship smartphones. However, he has shared no further details about this phone.

Honor V30 5G Confirmed

However, we expect the upcoming 5G smartphone from Honor to come powered by the company’s own flagship Kirin processor for powerful performance. Since the Kirin 990 SoC is set to get launched in a couple of weeks, we expect the Honor V30 to come powered by the same chipset.

Honor’s parent company Huawei has started selling its first 5G smartphone in its home country China. Huawei Mate 20 X 5G smartphone is now available for purchase in China costing 6,199 Yuan, which roughly converts to $881. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage in Emerald Green color.

The Huawei Mate 20 X 5G features a massive 7.2-inch OLED display with a waterdrop notch, Full HD+ screen resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The 7nm Kirin 980 chipset is present under the hood, along with Balong 5000 5G modem that brings 5G connection on the device. It is a dual SIM phone that supports a 5G SIM and a 4G SIM at the same time.

Huawei Mate 20 X 5G

On the front side, the phone comes with a 24-megapixel selfie camera having f/2.0 aperture. The rear shell of the smartphone features Leica engineered three camera sensors housed inside a square-shaped module. It includes an LED flash, an f/1.8 aperture 40-megapixel primary sensor, an f/2.4 aperture 8-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS and a 20-megapixel ultrawide lens.

Other features on the device include Dolby Atmos support, facial unlock, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. It comes pre-loaded with Android 9 Pie OS that is customized with EMUI 9.1 and is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 40W fast charging.

Vivo NEX 3 5G confirmed to launch in September; key specifications leaked online

Vivo’s NEX lineup of smartphones has been special for the company as it launches innovative devices under this series. Vivo NEX was the world’s first phone to have a pop-up camera while Vivo NEX 2 came with two displays.

Now, the company is gearing up to launch its next-generation Vivo NEX series smartphone, dubbed as Vivo NEX 3. Li Xiang, Product Manager at Vivo has already teased a few features of the upcoming phone and now some of the key specifications of this upcoming smartphone have been leaked online.

Vivo NEX 3 5G

Additionally, as expected, the company has today officially confirmed that the Vivo NEX 3 5G smartphone will be launched in China next month but no date has been specified. Making the announcement on Weibo, the company posted an image with a caption that reads: “Here it comes! #5G Vivo NEX 3 releasing in September!”

Another image, detailing key specs of the upcoming smartphone has leaked online, which reveals that the Vivo NEX 3 5G will come with an impressive 99.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. Offering such high screen-to-body ratio is possible because the company has adopted a Waterfall Screen design.

Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core processor which was launched recently as an upgrade over the Snapdragon 855 flagship octa-core chipset.

Vivo NEX 3 5G Specs Leak

As per the leak, the device will be featuring a 64 MP primary camera sensor on the back in a triple-camera setup. Coming to the front-facing camera, since there’s no notch on top of the display, we expect the NEX 3 to come with a pop-up camera, similar to the Vivo NEX. There are reports hinting at in-display camera sensor but it seems unlikely.

It is said that the smartphone will also come with a headphone jack unlike other flagships in the market today. Further, the phone is also expected to come with 44W fast charging support. While the company has not yet revealed the launch date, we expect the smartphone to get launched around mid-September.

Lu Weibing reveals Redmi K30 is coming, will have 5G support

Since it launched in May, the Redmi K20 has received several reviews praising its design, features, and affordable price tag. While we do not expect a successor anytime soon, it has now been officially revealed that there will be one and it will be called the Redmi K30.

Redmi K20 featured
Redmi K20

The announcement was made yesterday by Redmi General Manager, Lu Weibing, on his Weibo page. He not only disclosed the name of the Redmi K20’s successor but also revealed that the phone will have 5G support.

Redmi K30

There is still a lot we do not know about the Redmi K30 but there is a high chance we will not have to wait until May 2020 for its launch. It is exciting news to also know it will support 5G and it may very well be the first mid-range Redmi phone with 5G support. Based on this news, the Redmi K20 Pro’s successor (Redmi K30 Pro) will also have 5G support.

The Redmi K20 has a full-screen design – no notch and no punch-hole – but it has a motorized pop-up selfie camera. Redmi may re-use this design with slight modifications or go with a brand new one for the Redmi K30. Features like an AMOLED display and an in-display fingerprint scanner are definitely going to make a comeback on the K30. However, it may sport more cameras, probably a quad-rear camera setup; a 4000mAh or bigger battery capacity seeing as it will have 5G support; and maybe even a faster-charging technology too. These are our guesses for the upcoming phone and may or may not be correct. Nevertheless, we are already excited about the device.

Which features do you want to see on the Redmi K30? Let us know in the comment box.

RedmiBook 14 with 10th Gen Intel Processor to launch on August 29

The RedmiBook 14 launched as the Redmi brand’s very first laptop. Unveiled back in May with an 8th Gen Intel processor, Redmi has now announced that it will launch a new version with a 10th Gen Intel processor on August 29.

The new RedmiBook 14 will come with a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. We do not know if this processor is one of the 10nm Ice Lake CPUs or one of the 14nm Comet lake CPUs that were announced last week. What we do know is that the 10th Gen RedmiBook 14 computer will cost more than the top-end model powered (Core i7 + 512GB SSD) by an 8th Gen processor which is priced at ¥4999 (~$704).

RedmiBook 14 with 10th Gen Intel Processor

Other than a new CPU (and graphics card), the RedmiBook 14 with a 10th Gen Intel processor should look the same as the models powered by an 8th Gen Intel processor. So you get a PC with a 14-inch display and an 81.2% screen-to-body ratio, a full-sized keyboard, HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It should also come with Smart Unlock 2.0 which lets you unlock the PC using your Mi Band.

The new RedmiBook 14 will be announced alongside the Redmi Note 8, the Redmi Note 8 Pro, and the Redmi TV.

Redmi Note 8’s camera configuration revealed, doesn’t have a ToF sensor

The Redmi Note 8 will be coming with big changes when compared to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 7. The biggest physical change you will notice is the rear cameras which are now four in number – double that of the Redmi Note 7. Today, the official Redmi account has revealed the camera configuration of the Redmi Note 8.

The Redmi Note 8 will come with a 48MP primary camera which will be paired with a super wide-angle camera, a depth of field camera, and a super macro camera. No, the fourth camera is not a ToF sensor.

The Redmi Note 8 will also have a different camera design from that of the Redmi Note 8 Pro as seen in the image above. The quad cameras are arranged on the left side of the phone and not in the middle like that of the Pro version. The poster also reveals the phone will be available in a white-blue gradient color variant. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back even though it isn’t very visible in the image above.

Official: Redmi Note 8 will have a Snapdragon 665 processor

Redmi already confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 Pro will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio G90T processor but the Redmi Note 8 will come with a different processor entirely.

The official Weibo account for Redmi has announced that the Redmi Note 8 will be powered by the Snapdragon 665 processor. This is the same processor inside the Xiaomi CC9e and the Xiaomi Mi A3.

Redmi Note 8 Snapdragon 665

Redmi Note 8 Snapdragon 665

The 11nm chipset was announced back in April and the Xiaomi CC9e was the first phone to come with the processor. Redmi General Manager, Lu Weibing, explained why they decided to settle for the Snapdragon 665 which technically isn’t as powerful as the Snapdragon 660 with respect to core performance.

In his Weibo post, he revealed that the Snapdragon 665 is an 11nm chip which is smaller than the Snapdragon 660 which is a 14nm processor. This smaller node size translates to an increase in power efficiency. He also stated that the Snapdragon 665 also supports Vulkan 1.1 API which brings a 20% reduction in power consumption compared to Open GL ES.

Lu Weibing Redmi Note 8

The Snapdragon 665 also has a better AI Engine – the third generation Hexagon 686 DSP as against the Snapdragon 660’s Hexagon 680 DSP. There is also the Hexagon Vector Extension (HVX) which brings advanced imaging and computing power and an overall improvement in AI performance.

Mr. Weibing added that based on their test, the Redmi Note 8 takes better photos and has a better battery life than the Redmi Note 7. He ends the post with the statement that the Snapdragon 665 has “lower power consumption and higher IQ”.

Anker Nebula Soundbar Fire TV Edition gets Bluetooth certification

Android TV is available not only on dongles and TV boxes but is now also on soundbars. The $400 JBL Link Bar is an example. If you prefer Amazon’s Fire TV, then Anker may soon announce something similar to the JBL Link Bar.

Anker may be best known for its power banks, chargers, and adapters but it also makes great and affordable audio products that are launched under its Soundcore sub-brand and also projectors under its Nebula sub-brand.

A Bluetooth listing has revealed the manufacturer may soon announce a soundbar with Fire OS built-in. According to the listing details, the product will be called Nebula Soundbar – Fire TV Edition. We are surprised it is not launching as a Soundcore product, to be precise, as the Soundcore Infini – Fire TV Edition. Infini is Soundcore’s line of soundbars.

Nebula Soundbar
Picture of unreleased Nebula Soundbar

Technically, this isn’t Nebula’s first soundbar. Back in May, it was revealed that a Nebula Soundbar was in development. There was even an image but little or no details back then and the soundbar is yet to launch. There is a possibility Anker may have scrapped that in favor of the Nebula Soundbar Fire TV Edition.

The device was certified on August 23 and the listing was first discovered by Android TV Rumors (@androidtv_rumor). The soundbar will have Bluetooth 5.0 and its model number is given as D3000. That is all we know for now about the first Fire TV soundbar.

The Stratos was first launched in 2017 as a successor to the Amazfit Pace which is the first-gen Amazfit Smart Sports Watch.

Huami’s vice president, Qi Fandi, has hinted that the upcoming smartwatch will simply be called Amazfit Sports Watch 3 without the “smart” attribute since all their smartwatches are smart”. Honor KSA-AL10 TENAA listing may be the Honor 8S Pro

The Honor 8S was announced back in April. It was first launched in Russia before making its way to China. A new listing on TENAA hints at the launch of a Pro version (Honor 8S Pro) or a successor (Honor 9S), though we believe it is the former.

The Honor phone has the model number KSA-AL10 which is nearly identical to that of the Honor 8S (KSA-AL00) and also has the same design. The specs are also the same, save for the processor which is now a 2.0GHz octa-core processor, unlike the Honor 8S which has a 2.0GHz quad-core Helio A22 processor. We believe the new chipset is the Helio P22 which is practically the Helio A22 with four more cores.

[envira-gallery id=”272046″]

The Honor KSA-AL10 has a 5.71-inch 1520 x 720 display with a waterdrop notch for a 5MP selfie camera. The processor is paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of expandable storage. The rear camera is a single 13MP sensor.

The battery capacity is given as 2920mAh and there is no fast charging available. The dimensions are the same as those of the Honor 8S which is 147. 147.13 x 70.78 x 8.45 millimeters while weight is 146 grams. It will be available in Magic Night Black, Platinum Gold, and Aurora Blue.

We have no idea when the Honor 8S Pro or whatever Honor decides to call it will launch but it should be around the corner.

It even comes with a very high screen-to-body ratio thanks to very narrow bezels around the display and a waterdrop notch, unlike its two rivals. But if you prefer a gaming-centric design with RGB lights and additional keys to enhance the gaming experience, then go either for the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro or the Nubia Red Magic 3 depending on your personal tastes. I prefer the Black Shark 2 Pro because it is thinner and lighter.

Display

Here, you basically have to choose between a higher refresh ratio and a bigger diagonal, or a more compact display with better touch sensing. The device which offers a higher refresh ratio (90 Hz) and a wider display is the Nubia Red Magic 3, and that is what I would choose. The one with 240 Hz touch sensing is the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro, but it has a smaller display and a standard refresh rate. I define the refresh ratio as a more important element than a higher touch sensing, so my choice would be the Red Magic 3. Both Red Magic 3 and Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro offer 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage, while Vivo iQOO Pro has a standard AMOLED display with non-amazing color reproduction and a standard refresh ratio, so it loses the comparison.

Specs & Software

While Nubia Red Magic 3 is equipped with a standard Snapdragon 855 chipset, both Vivo iQOO Pro and Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro are powered by the new Snapdragon 855+: an upgrade version of the SD855 offering a higher clock frequency and a graphic performance improvement up to 15 percent. I think Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro will offer higher performance in long session due to its advanced cooling system. Further, in its most expensive configuration, it has more internal storage than Vivo iQOO Pro (up to 256 GB against 128 GB). Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro even comes with very optimized software experience.

Camera

None of these handsets is a real camera phone: all of them have midrange-class cameras. In these cases, I prefer the most versatile device, so the one which offers the highest amount of features. My choice would be the Vivo iQOO Pro due to its triple camera including an ultrawide sensor and a pretty nice 48 MP shooter. But Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro is all but a bad camera phone, especially with its great telephoto lens enabling 2x optical zoom, as well as a decent selfie camera.

Battery

Nubia Red Magic 3 has a huge 5000 mAh battery, while Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro and Vivo iQOO Pro come with just 4000 and 4500 mAh, respectively. But the Nubia Red Magic 3 has a real cooling fan to manage (as well as a bigger display), so it is not said that it will always last more than Vivo iQOO Pro.

Price

€410/$460 for the Vivo iQOO Pro, €450/$505 for the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro and €500/$560 for the Nubia Red Magic 3. Overall, we think the most demanding gamers should go for the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro, but if you are a casual gamer, then Vivo iQOO Pro may be a better option.

OnePlus 7T 3D renders show triple rear camera design with a circular housing

This year’s OnePlus T-series will be arriving earlier than usual going by the leaked dates. Rather than an October launch, the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro will be announced in September. Today, 3D renders of the phone have surfaced, thanks to OnLeaks in collaboration with PriceBaba, giving us an early look at the flagship.

OnePlus 7T

The OnePlus 7T will be wearing a different design from the OnePlus 7, at least on the rear. OnePlus has decided to go with triple rear cameras for the phone, one sensor more than that of the OnePlus 7. The camera configuration is unknown but the extra sensor is most likely an ultrawide angle sensor.

The extra camera is not the only difference. The cameras are in a circular housing with a bump. The cameras are arranged horizontally. There is a dual-LED flash below the middle camera inside the housing. A few millimeters below the cameras is the familiar OnePlus logo. The OnePlus 7T is covered in glass and it is curved at the sides just like the OnePlus 7.

The front of the OnePlus 7T has not changed. It keeps the flat display of the OnePlus 7 with a cut out for the speaker at the top. The size of the bezels hasn’t changed either. The screen size is said to still be 6.4-inches and the resolution may remain FHD+.

The OnePlus 7T has only one grille at the bottom instead of two like the OnePlus 7. The SIM tray is now at the bottom opposite the USB Type-C port while the right side of the frame houses the power button and alert slider and the left is home to the volume control. The phone’s dimensions are given as 161.2 x 74.5 x 8.3 millimeters.

[envira-gallery id=”272034″]

The OnePlus 7T should come with a Snapdragon 855+ processor. It should also come with improved cameras and maybe even Android Q out of the box. It will launch first in India alongside the OnePlus TV before launching in other markets.

Moto E6 Plus rocks waterdrop notch and dual cameras in leaked live photos

It has been over two months since the Moto E6 Plus was seen on Geekbench but after that nothing has been heard about the phone until today. A couple of high-quality live photos phone have leaked on the web.

The source of the photos is Roland Quandt (@rquandt) and the photos reveal the Moto E6 Plus will have a waterdrop notch. The bezels are not the thinnest we have seen on a phone, most especially the chin but this is a budget device, so we can’t complain.

The back of the phone is home to dual rear cameras but unlike the Moto E5 Plus, the cameras are not in a circular housing but arranged vertically on the left side. The two sensors are housed together while an LED flash and microphone sit below. There is also a fingerprint sensor buried under the Motorola batwing logo on the back. The photos also show the Moto E6 Plus has its power button and volume rocker on the right side of the frame. The back is also very reflective and will be a fingerprint magnet.

The phone will run Android 9 Pie out of the box and will have dual-SIM support. None of the photos show the bottom and top, so we can’t confirm the type of port it has and if there is an audio jack.

Geekbench already revealed that the Moto E6 Plus will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. There should be a 3GB RAM version too when it launches. We still don’t know if it will come with a big battery capacity like its predecessor but we expect the worst seeing as Motorola ships the Moto E6 with a smaller battery capacity than that of the Moto E5.

The phone may launch first in China seeing as the version in the photos is the Chinese version. The Moto E6 launched for $149, so the E6 Plus may be priced at $179 or thereabout. But at that price, you are better off buying the Moto G7 Power which has a 5000mAh battery, a Snapdragon 632 processor but a single camera for $184.99.

Leaked OnePlus TV specs reveal MediaTek SoC, 3GB RAM and more

The OnePlus TV should arrive in about a month and some few days. There is a lot we already know about the TV from official sources but more details have surfaced now, thanks to a leaked spec sheet.

An image which appears to be a screenshot from a Google Play Developer Console page has key specs of the TV listed. Prior to this, a device with the same name was certified by Google on August 22. According to the photo, the OnePlus TV is codenamed “Dosa” and the variant here is for India.OnePlus TV specs

The TV has 2560MB of RAM and it is paired with a MediaTek MT5670 processor. This is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The chipset has an ARM Mali G51 GPU. The resolution is given as 1920 x 1080. The source explains that the TV menu is always in 1080p which is why that is the resolution displayed as OnePlus already revealed it is a 4K panel.

The OnePlus TV will run Android TV 9 but we already know it will be customized by OnePlus, so the UI will be different from that of other devices running stock Android TV 9.

The OnePlus TV will have a 55-inch QLED display. It will launch first in India and Pete Lau says it will have a price tag that reflects it is a premium device. The decision to launch first in India not only stems from the fact that India is its biggest market but also because it already partnered with content providers Nevertheless, it should be more affordable than offerings from LG and Samsung. The OnePlus TV will also be announced in Europe, the USA and China in October.

This is not a one-off project as OnePlus plans to release successors that will bring new features and will be very different from the traditional TV. The OnePlus TV will not only have great quality but also a great user experience said OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau.
