2017 saw the return of Nokia to the smartphone market, thanks to a new licensee, HMD Global Oy. That year saw the release of phones like the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3, and the flagship Nokia 8.
All the aforementioned phones have received two major OS updates since they launched as well as regular security updates just as HMD Global promised. Now, the manufacturer is promising an extra year of security updates for them.
HMD Global says it will release quarterly updates for the phones. Starting from next month, the Nokia 3 will receive quarterly updates up until September 2020 while the Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and Nokia 8 will begin to get their quarterly security patches starting October 2019 up until October 2020. The security patch that arrives will also include changes from the previous patches.
Sadly, this extension will not include the US and Indian Amazon version of the Nokia 6. Updates for this version will cease in October 2019. The Nokia 2 will also stop receiving updates in November 2019.
In a world in which phablets are dominating the scene, it is becoming every day harder to find valid smartphones with compact dimensions. In 2019, mobile phones even passed the 7-inch display diagonal and, with foldable phones, they are becoming even bigger. But there are still a few compact phones out there and we decided to write a specs comparison between three of them. We are talking about the Sony Xperia Ace which is the successor of the XZ Compact line-up, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE that is an affordable variant of the Mi 9 and the Pixel 3a which is currently the most affordable Google phone. All of them are compact and lightweight, but which one is worth your money? Here you should find it out.

Design
When it comes to compact phones, dimensions are more important than design, especially in a comparison like this. Sony Xperia Ace is the most compact phone here and it measures only 140 x 67 mm. That is amazing if you want a phone that is easy to use with one hand or to keep in a pocket all the time. While the Xperia Ace is the most compact one, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is definitely the most beautiful due to its suggestive glass back and the narrow bezels around its waterdrop display. Unlike its rivals, it has a real premium design just like flagship phones. But it is much bigger than Xperia Ace.
Display
The best display experience is provided by the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE as it is the only to be HDR-compliant, so it is able to reproduce colors better, especially in multimedia content. The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is also the only to have a Super AMOLED panel by Samsung and an in-display fingerprint reader. At the second place, we got the Google Pixel 3a which still got an OLED display but no HDR technology. On the other hand, it has louder stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm audio jack which are not present on the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. Sony Xperia Ace has the smallest display with a diagonal of just 5 inches, but it is just an average IPS panel. Stereo speakers and 3.5 mm jack are present on the Xperia Ace as well.
Specs & Software
The hardware comparison leaves no doubts: Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is stronger thanks to its better Snapdragon 712 chipset. Further, unlike its two opponents, it features 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. Google Pixel 3a and Sony Xperia Ace are only available in the 4/64 GB configuration. On the other hand, the Google Pixel 3a comes with stock Android and, given that it is a Google phone, it is more secure and it will be updated faster and in a more constant way with the latest major Android versions and security patches. That is why Pixel 3a is the perfect phone for developers.
Camera
Google Pixel 3a borrows its rear camera sensor from the vanilla Pixel 3 and this means that it provides a flagship-class camera experience. Despite it has just a single camera on its rear side, it wins the camera comparison thanks to a higher-end sensor and a more advanced algorithm, as well as optical stabilization and astonishing performances in low-light conditions. Right after, we got the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE with its versatile triple camera including a 48 MP high-end sensor, a telephoto lens, and an ultrawide sensor.
Battery
Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is not so incredible when it comes to battery life, while Google Pixel 3a and Sony Xperia Ace are much better thanks to their better software optimization, with just marginal differences in most of the scenarios. Overall, Google Pixel 3a is the most convincing one and it also features a very fast charging technology.
Price
While Google Pixel 3a starts from €400/$443 and Sony Xperia Ace costs €396/$440, Xiaomi Mi 9 SE carries a starting price of just €280/$310. At the end of the day, I would personally go for the Google Pixel 3a because of its flagship-class camera, better Android experience, but Xiaomi Mi 9 SE has a higher value for money. You should choose the Sony Xperia Ace only if you want a real compact phone with a very small size, otherwise, its rivals are better devices in terms of specifications and potentialities.

The Redmi-branded Xiaomi phone with the model number M1908C3IC was seen on TENAA yesterday but only the images were revealed. The full listing has now been published and it reveals it will be the Redmi phone with the biggest battery capacity ever.
Based on the TENAA listing, the Redmi M1908C3IC has a 6.2-inch screen. The centered-camera hints at the screen having a waterdrop notch. There is a 2.0GHz octa-core processor paired with 2GB, 3GB, or 4GB of RAM. The phone will also be available with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage depending on the RAM variant. Thanks to a MicroSD card slot, owners will be able to add up to 512GB of extra storage to the device.
The images show it has dual rear cameras. TENAA says the primary camera is a 12MP sensor but doesn’t mention the secondary sensor. There is an 8MP camera in front for selfies.
The Redmi M1908C3IC also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and runs Android 9 Pie. However, its main selling point is its massive battery capacity stated as 5000mAh by TENAA. This is the biggest battery capacity for a Redmi device. Though the Mi MAX 2 trumps it with its 5300mah battery.
TENAA says it supports fast charging even though the 3C certification only mentioned 5V/2A charging.
The Redmi M1908C3IC measures 156.3mm in length thanks to its reduced bezels. However, it is quite thick at 9.4mm while its width is 75.4mm. It also weighs 190 grams. TENAA says it will be available in Black, Red, Blue, Pink, White, Green, Purple, and Gray.
While we are still in the dark regarding its official name, we can’t help but think it will launch as the Redmi 8. The display size, camera configuration, and the fact that it has a 2GB RAM version are similar features of the Redmi 7. Only time will tell if we are correct.

BBK subsidiary Vivo has confirmed the iQOO Pro 5G will feature a 4500mAh battery. A teaser poster released earlier today contained the detail about the battery size. This is a slight bump above the iQOO which had a 4000mAh battery. No doubt, it is as a result of the 5G modem the Pro 5G will have onboard. It will definitely have a slight impact on the weight and size of the flagship.
The iQOO Pro 5G is expected to launch on August 22 packing a Snapdragon 855+ SoC and to also be Vivo’s first model with 5G connectivity. Samsung had released an extensive range of A and M-series devices in the first half of 2019. The Galaxy M20, M30 and M40 have been its bestselling smartphones this year thanks to competitive pricing and impressive hardware specifications. Recent reports have revealed that Sasmsung is gearing up to release the successor to the M-series in the latter half of this year. Fresh details of the Galaxy M21, M31 and M41 that are expected to release in 2020 have surfaced online.
Tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore revealed has shared some key information on the specs of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A-series and Galaxy M-series smartphones. The leak reveals that these smartphones will be arriving with some minor upgrades in features and specifications.
Samsung Galaxy M21 Features and Specifications
The new leak states that the Galaxy M21 will be powered by an Exynos 7609 SoC and its base model will have 4 GB of RAM. Details of the higher-spec variants are unavailable. The device is expected to arrive with a dual camera setup featuring a primary camera of 24-megapixel and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It will be succeeding the Galaxy M20 which uses an Exynos 7904 SoC and 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. It is likely to feature a triple camera setup on its rear. The unit may consist of a 48-megapixel primary lens, a 12-megapixel wide angle unit and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It will be arriving as a successor for the Galaxy M30 is powered by an Exynos 7904 SoC. It is unclear whether Samsung will stick use Sony IMX586 sensor or its proprietary 48-megapixel ISOCELL GM1 sensor on the M31.
Samsung Galaxy M41 Features and Specifications
The Galaxy M41 could be powered by all new Exynos 9630 chipset. It may feature 6 GB of RAM in its base variant. The device may come with a triple camera setup. It could be featuring a primary lens of 64-megapixel, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It will be replacing the Galaxy M40 is powered by a Snapdragon 675 chipset with 6 GB of RAM.
Since there is concrete evidence to corroborate on the above leak, it is advisable to digest the report with a grain of salt.
Motorola just tried to innovate the smartphones sector by releasing the One Action: a phone with an integrated action camera. But innovation is not everything, especially for a midrange device like this. There are a lot of factors which determine the success of a smartphone and the power of the competition is one of the most important ones. That is why we always compare the newly-announced smartphones with their most valid rivals. To compete with the Motorola One Action, we chose the new Xiaomi Mi A3 and the best-selling Samsung Galaxy A50. Through this in-depth specs comparison, we will try to establish whether the Motorola One Action will stand a chance against them in the global market.

Design
Despite the Motorola One Action has a way more attractive punch-hole design, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is undoubtedly the most beautiful and suggestive smartphone if we talk about the design. Indeed, unlike its rivals, it has a premium design with a glass back and an aluminum frame just like flagship phones. Both Motorola One Action and Samsung Galaxy A50 are made of plastic, even though the former is splash resistant with the IPX2 certification. Further, Xiaomi Mi A3 is much more compact due to its smaller display and its narrow bezels. If we exclude the Xiaomi Mi A3, I would go for the Motorola One Action due to its punch-hole design and its splash resistant body, despite it does not feature an in-display fingerprint reader (it is rear-mounted on the Motorola logo).
Display
Xiaomi Mi A3 loses the comparison because despite being equipped with an AMOLED panel, it has just a 720p resolution, so it does not provide a high level of detail. Motorola One Action has a very attractive punch-hole display as stated above, but it is an LCD panel. The most convincing one is the Samsung Galaxy A50 which boasts a Super AMOLED display with a high Full HD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint reader, as well as a bigger display size that is more suitable for multimedia, productivity users and gamers.
Specs & Software
If we consider the most expensive memory configurations, Samsung Galaxy A50 dominates the hardware comparison. On the paper, Samsung Exynos 9610 looks more powerful than the Snapdragon 665 found on the Xiaomi Mi A3, even though there is to consider that the Galaxy A50 is not part of the Android program and it does not have a lightweight user interface. But the Samsung Galaxy A50 is the only to be equipped with up to 6 GB of RAM which means better performance in multi-tasking scenarios.
Camera
If we only consider rear cameras, Motorola One Action is the very game changer here. The phone boasts an ultrawide sensor which works independently from the others and comes with some action camera-like features. It is able to record 1080p videos at 60 fps with electronic stabilization and it records landscape videos even if the phone is held vertically, in order to make mounting the phone easier on external supports just like action cameras. The ultrawide sensor does not shoot photos: for that, the Motorola One Action relies on a 12 MP sensor which also records 4K videos. While Motorola One Action has the most interesting rear cameras, Xiaomi Mi A3 is better at selfies with its 32 MP snapper. Samsung Galaxy A50 is still a great camera phone, but it sits behind Xiaomi Mi A3 and Motorola One Action.
Battery
The battery life champion is the Xiaomi Mi A3 not only because it has a bigger battery, but also because it has to manage a more efficient display with a smaller size and a 720p resolution. Xiaomi Mi A3 also comes with the fastest charging technology (18W power and Quick Charge 3 support). At the second place, there is Samsung Galaxy A50 with its 4000 mAh battery, but despite having just 30 mAh less than Xiaomi Mi A3 it lasts a lot less due to its more demanding display.

Motorola One Action just hitten the European market with a €289 listing price for the 4/128 GB configuration, Samsung Galaxy A50 starts from €250 for the 4/64 GB variant, and Xiaomi Mi A3 carries a €220 price tag for the 4/64 GB configuration. Despite it is not part of the Android One program, I think Samsung Galaxy A50 is a more complete device for a lot of people due to its big battery, an advanced display, good performance, and an overall well-balanced specs sheet. But if you do not care so much about the battery life, then Motorola One Action may be a better option due to its amazing camera. If you like compact phones and beautiful designs, then you would better go for the Xiaomi Mi A3. In each case, you get an amazing mid-ranger with just marginal differences compared to its competitors.
With many aspects of the tech industry having reached a plateau and other blooming, one would say that now is the best and worst time to buy a product. In short, excellent but very homogenous products are available, especially in the gaming peripherals industry.
Many tried and many failed to change this status quo and a new product is ready to try doing that again. It is the GameSir G6s Touchroller mobile gamepad. When you are someone like me that reminisces the analog gamepads of Nintendo’s NES but at the same time loves the magic of the iPhone touchscreen, my expectations were not very high when I decided to try the upcoming gamepad.
Inspired by hybrid cars’ design and philosophy, the company’s engineers and designers unveiled their idea: combine the advantages of the traditional analog sticks and the fancy touchscreen controller. The GameSir G6s touchroller gamepad for iPhone (not a very intuitive name to be honest) comes in a decent package that includes the G6s gamepad, a micro-USB cable, and a manual. Simple and clear. Holding it in hand feels great and you an wait to start pressing the buttons while gaming, as the feel like a mechanical keyboard’s keys. Clicky with clear feedback and pressing distance.
Of course, no matter how fantastic an accessory may seem, it’s a no-go if it isn’t user friendly. Thankfully, it took just 30 seconds to connect it to my iPhone X via Game G-Crux. Apart from that, gamers can customize the button mapping via G-Crux, again, the entire process is just simple and friendly. But time had come for some serious PUBG gaming.
While playing, the left side hosts the analog controllers while my right hand controls the touchscreen and R1 trigger button. Of course, every new gamepad takes a little time to get used to but as good are the ergonomics of a gamepad the fastest you get used to it. And the G6s did a great job since it took just a few minutes for me to feel comfortable using it. Well-thought design GameSir.
Another interesting feature is that the G6s is equipped with dual vibration motors and you can decide which button vibrates relating which action you do in-gaming. With this function, when firing, you can feel a delicate vibration and you feel like holding the real thing in your hand.
Of course, the perfect product is yet to be released and the GameSir G6s has its flaws too. For starters, it comes in only one color (Black) and I hope that the company will add more options in the future. The other important flaw is that there is no information about Android compatibility for the time being. That’s bad news for Android users and I really hope that they take it into consideration. All in all, I would give it an 8.4 overall score:
Innovation: 8.8/10
Quality: 8.0/10
Feedback: 8.5/10
Portability: 8/10
Control:8.5/10
The bottom line is that the G6s combines the advantages of an analog controller with the smoothness of touchscreen, and that could be very promising for the future of mobile gaming controllers. It certainly does serve the manufacturer’s vision of offering gamers the chance to enjoy the pure joy of gaming. The GameSir G6s Touchroller is currently in crowdfunding stage and you can back it on Indiegogo.
Motorola has officially unveiled the Motorola One Action just as scheduled. The smartphone gets its name from the amazing Action Camera which it packs at the rear. The action camera has all the dressings of the regular digital action camera , as it packs a 117° ultra-wide angle lens which can capture videos at 1080p/60fps.
The Motorola One Action sports a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with fullHD+ resolution of 1080pixels and an amazing 21:9 aspect ratio. The display design includes a punch hole at the top left corner which houses a 12MP selfie camera. The device packs a triple camera setup at the rear and this is where you’ll find the Action camera. The triple sensors comprises a 16MP sensor which uses 4-in-1 pixel binning to improve image quality in low light and features electronic image stabilization. The 16MP sensor iis oriented in such a way that it records landscape video when the phone is held vertically. This will make mounting the phone easier as, for example, most bike mounts keep the phone vertical. The camera cannot be used to shoot still photos.
For photos and regular videos, there is a 12MP main camera which can equally record 4k videos but at 30fps. . This one does feature 4K recording (at 30fps). The third sensor is a 5MP depth sensor. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the rear which is embedded inside the Motorola logo.
The device is powered by a Samsung Exynos 9609 chipset paired up with 4GB of RAM and there is 128GB storage onboard which can be expanded with a microSD slot. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie and is part of the Android One program. It comes with an IPX2 waterproof rating meaning it has protection against dripping water when tilted at 15°. The device supports 10W fast charging and even shoos with a 10W charger.
Motorola retained the legendary 3.5mm headphone jack on top edge of the phone. There is also a loudspeaker with Dolby Audio on the bottom edge. The retail box has a protective case inside and in some countries, there will be a complimentary headset.

Huawei’s 2018 flagship, the Mate 20 Pro is still a hot-selling model and an awesome device in all aspect. The company has been consistent in pushing update to the phone and that isn’t expected to stop soon. The Mate 20 Pro started receiving the much-touted EMUI 9.1 update at the end of June. EMUI 9.1 was announced with lots of fanfare, projected as packing several stunning features such as the new EROFS file system, GPU Turbo 3.0, and Moon mode for the camera.
DC dimming wasn’t one of the features the new update brought but right now, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has started getting another update that brings this feature. DC dimming is gaining widespread popularity with each passing month especially among the Chinese smartphone makers. Most of them have already pushed updates or included DC dimming on their models sporting an OLED screens. The Huawei P30 Pro had earlier gotten its update ushering DC dimming earlier in June. The Mate 30 Pro update delivers the firmware version EMUI 9.1.0.135 and is currently on the China ROM. When it starts rolling out globally, you can enable it on your Mate 20 Pro by going to Settings > Display > Eye comfort > Enable Flicker reduction.
DC dimming essentially controls the brightness of the display by varying the power supplied to the circuit. There are two methods to control the screen’s brightness — Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Dimming and DC Dimming. In PWM, the width of the light pulse is varied to control the brightness of the display panel while in DC dimming, the power supplied to the circuit is varied to control the brightness. You can read more about DC dimming from our article here.
The Xiaomi M1908C3IC is actually a Redmi-branded device. The phone has the manufacturer’s name on the chin which itself is quite slim. There is a camera in the middle of the display’s upper portion hinting at the phone having a notch.

On the back, the phone has dual cameras which are arranged vertically and positioned in the middle of the phone. There is an LED flash above the sensors while a fingerprint scanner sits below. The phone also has a Redmi logo on the back. The area where the cameras, fingerprint scanner, and manufacturer’s name occupy has a darker shade than the rest of the phone.
The official name of the Xiaomi M1908C3IC is still unknown. There are speculations it may be the Redmi 8. The Redmi 7 was announced back in March and it also has 10W charging, dual rear cameras, and a notched display. More details about the phone should surface soon, most especially its full TENAA listing.

Xiaomi has got products that cater to the needs of every member of the family including the beloved pet. Here’s a new product for our pet, the Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest. The size makes it suitable for small pets like cats or puppies or even small breeds of dog like the Chihuahua. However, the manufacturer recommends its use for cats below 8kg and small dogs that weigh below 4kg.
The Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest adopts a spectacular design that resembles a space capsule. The entire space is 33L large. There are two entrances located in such a way that the pet doesn’t need to turn around to exit the nest. Both entrances each have a 19cm diameter.
The nest isn’t just a cute shelter for your pet but also comes with smart temperature control which regulates the coldness or warmness of the nest. This is regulated by the built-in precision environmental sensor which uses “semiconductor heat pump” technology. The temperature is thus adjusted as the ambient temperature changes. There is also a new refrigeration system to ensure no condensation in the humid regions.
Aside from that, the Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest comes with a health monitoring feature. There is a “Whistler Bridge” at the bottom of the smart nest to accurately monitor and record the pet’s activities and sleep data in real-time. The data can be viewed via the Moestar app at any time. The app also allows the owner to change the color of the nest’s lighting at any time. The app also alerts the owner if the pet has left a poo inside the nest.
The Moestar Spaceship Smart Pet Nest comes with a price tag of 399 yuan ($56). It is expected to start shipping in China on September 29. There is no word yet on when this product will be available for the global market.
The market of wireless earphones is pretty crowded and it might be hard to choose the right pair of buds, especially if you are on a budget. I’ve come across the Xcentz Bluetooth necklace style earphones that cost about $30 but they are just packed with features.
The earphones are shipped in quite a nice looking packaging where all the accessories are packed neatly.
Inside the box, you can find a few extra ear tips, USB cable, and some paperwork.
DESIGN and COMFORT
As for design, we are looking at a very light necklace-type headset. You rubber material of the necklace is nice to the skin and feels comfortable.
The actual headphones have a quality metal housing and they can be attached to one another using magnets. The overall build quality is really good. The Xcentz earphones look and feel a bit more expensive than they actually cost.
I found the earphones to be comfortable to wear for hours and they do not fall out of my ears, which is really important to any type of music device.
The controller allows you to play/pause, increase/decrease the volume, skip tracks or turn on/off the headphones.

KEY FEATURES and TEST NOTES
The key features of the Xcentz earphones include Bluetooth 5 which has better range (about 30m) over previous generation Bluetooth protocols.
Further, the headset is sweat proof thanks to IPX7 certification meaning you can use the device in the rain or at the gym while sweating and burning calories.
The battery life has been really good. I could get over 8 hours of music playback on a single charge. A 10-minute charge keeps you going for 70 minutes which is another highlight feature of the Xcentz earphones.
The built-in mic assures pretty good call quality as people on the other end could hear me properly and without significant sound distortions.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality is really good considering the price of the earphones.
The sound is balanced, the volume output is really good and I like soft and punchy bass. Further, I like a good separation between lows, mids and highs. Overall, I’m really impressed with the sound quality given the price tag of just below $30.
CONCLUSIONS
The Xcentz neckband earphones are really impressive considering the price. They offer nice design, excellent build, good comfort and most importantly, the sound quality is really good.
I’ve used the earphones for more than 2 weeks and so far, I haven’t noticed any shortcomings.
If you add the latest Bluetooth 5, good battery life with quick charging support and IPX7 water resistance rating, you are looking at a high-quality pair of earphones that I can easily recommend.
