According to a security researcher Mossab Hussein, Samsung was leaking sensitive data – credentials, source code and secret keys for several important projects. The company had unknowingly given “public” access to the critical files in its development lab on GitLab and was even not protected with a password.
The exposed data contained credentials for the Amazon Web services account being used for the development of Samsung services. It revealed 100 S3 storage buckets attached to the same AWS account containing analytics and logs data. Employees’ GitLab access tokens are also part of the sensitive data that was discovered. The security researcher gained access to various public and private projects with the access tokens, increasing the exposed project count from 43 to 135. “I had the private token of a user who had full access to all 135 projects on that GitLab,” claims Mossab Hussein.
Majority of the publicly visible files contained data related to Samsung’s SmartThings and Bixby services. He further reveals that it could have been “disastrous” if any bad actor manipulated the code.
Samsung hosts multiple projects on the Vandev Lab – a Samsung hosted GitLab repository for development purposes. The same repository holds projects like Samsung’s SmartThings platform and Bixby services.
However, Samsung has now revoked the access of all the keys and credentials on the testing platform. The company is further investigating to find evidence for any external access.

After much anticipation, Google finally launched its mid-range Pixel series smartphones at an event on 7th May — Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Now, both the smartphones are available for purchase.
The team at iFixit decided to teardown the phone to see how the device is manufactured. In the rapairability score, the Pixel 3a series scored 6 points out of 10, which means that it’s fairly easy to repair. For those not aware, 10 points mean the phone is easiest to repair.
Most of the smartphones getting launched nowadays are not easy to get reapird and it’s a welcome move from Google for the Pixel 3a series, which scored 6 points in terms of repairability. The teardown of the phone showed that most of the components are modular and can be easily replaced once you remove the display assembly.
However, the iFixit team says that the display has foam adhesive that makes the opening process not very involved. It also added that while the display does come off first, it’s quite thin and poorly supported.
Then comes the battery, which is secured using the stretch-release adhesive and is said to be very repair-friendly. The only screws inside the new Pixel smartphones are standard T3 Torx fasteners, so there’s need for any weird screwdrivers.
The report points out that the main issue is that there are myriad long and thin ribbon cables that are connecting the phone’s internal components, and these can be hard to work around without accidental tears.
It reveals that the display panel on the both the phones — Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL comes from Samsung. The flash storage and RAM come from Micron. The phones also come with Google’s Titan M security chip, as well as a modular USB-C port.

These images are quite different from the case images of the ZenFone 6 phone that had appeared earlier this week. It revealed that the phone is equipped with a large cutout on the rear side for dual rear cameras. Probably, it could be also arriving with a notch-less display with slider design. Probably, by sliding the display, it may flip the rear camera to the front for capturing selfie shots like the Samsung Galaxy A80 phone. This handset could be the purported ZenFone 6Z flagship phone.
Last year, the ZenFone 5Z competed with the OnePlus 6. The ZenFone 6Z that will be made official two days after May 14 launch of OnePlus 7 could be arriving as its major rival. Some of the other features of the phone that has been confirmed by the Taiwanese manufacturer include 3.5mm audio jack, a notification LED, a triple slot for dual SIM and a microSD card slot, a dedicated smart key which can be also seen in the above shown images.

Earlier this year, Samsung officially unveiled its much anticipated and futuristic smartphone — Samsung Galaxy Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone. The phone was all set to go on sale from 26th April but just a couple of days before sale, it was postponed.
Now, Samsung CEO DJ Koh has revealed that the South Korean company will confirm the foldable’s revised release date in a matter of days. He also said that the defect was caused from substances that entered the device and the official conclusion will be reached in a couple of days.
Samsung had earlier sent out review units of the Galaxy Fold but within a day or two, many reviewers started complaining serious issuus related to the phone’s display. In a statement, the company said that it will thoroughly check the affected devices but has not hinted about the delaying the launch.
However, after negative press, the company announced its plan to postpone the launch and confirmed that the decision to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold smartphone was taken based on the initial feedback.
As for the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone presents a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display with a 1536 x 2152 resolution. In this mode, you can use three apps at the same time which Samsung calls Three-app Multitasking.
When folded into phone mode, it offers a 4.6-inch 840 x 1960 display. It comes with a feature called App Continuity which automatically adjust an app when you switch screens. It is powered by a 7nm processor paired with 12GB of RAM.

OnePlus 7 series smartphones are set to go official on 14th May globally and the company has already teased features of the devices. Thanks to teasers and leaks, we already know almost everything related to the upcoming flagship smartphones — from specs and design to pricing.
However, the latest information regarding the OnePlus 7 Pro is new and it’s related to the phone’s vibration motor. As per the report, the company has ramped up the quality of the vibration motor on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Oneplus 7 Pro
This is a major reason to rejoice for the existing OnePlus customers who have criticized the vibration motor on the OnePlus smartphones for years, mainly because of its weakness and inconsistency of the vibration.
In an interview with CNET, OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau said, “We are constantly listening to feedback from the community on what features and characteristics they would like to see implemented on OnePlus phones. Their feedback helps us focus on certain features… Our team had to rethink the internal design of the OnePlus 7 Pro, to fit inside the body without increasing the thickness of the device, which could lead to a less ergonomic feel. At the same time, we had to ensure that the haptic motor was in the right position so that the haptics would be strong, yet even across the device.”
The company claims that to power more intense and precise vibrations, the OnePlus 7 Pro needed a larger motor than past models. As per the company, this new engine is 200 percent stronger than previous iterations.
The device also offers three customizable vibration settings for notifications — “light,” “medium,” and “strong.” The motor’s vibration pattern has an additional six settings, and users can “tune the vibration” to tailor how the keyboard feels while typing.
The smartphone will come with a triple camera setup on the back and a pop-up front-facing camera. It will be powered by Snapdragon 855 octa-core chipset and will feature an AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate.

Last month, OPPO had introduced the OPPO Reno and Reno 10x Zoom Edition smartphones in China. Within few weeks after the launch, 91mobiles had revealed that the Chinese manufacturer will be launching OPPO Reno series in India by June end. The same publication has today shared a leaked poster for the Indian market. It reveals that the OPPO Reno phones will be launching in India on May 28.
OPPO, Vivo and OnePlus are smartphone brands that belong to China’s BBK Electronics. While OPPO seems to have planned May end launch for its OPPO Reno series launch in India, OnePlus will be debuting the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro smartphones on May 14. It is speculated that that the iQOO flagship phone will be also coming to India in June. Since they are all powered by Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and carry similar specs, these brands may end up rivaling with each other in Indian market.
OPPO Reno Specifications
The OPPO Reno standard edition phone has a 6.4-inch notch-less OLED screen shielded by Gorilla Glass 6. The display is embedded with an in-screen fingerprint reader. The smartphone is fueled by Snapdragon 710 mobile platform.
The rear shell of the phone features a 48-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup. A selfie snapper of 16-megapixel with LED flash is placed inside a “shark-fin” shaped pop-up camera module. POCO F2 Coming?
The names of the upcoming Redmi phones are not known yet. However, one of them has appeared on the database of Singapore’s IMDA authority with M1903F10G. Popular tipster Ishan Agarwal has claimed that the model numbers of the upcoming Redmi flagship phones are M1903F10 and M1903F11. He added that the Poco F1 had “E10” in its model number which suggests that M1903F10 Redmi phone could end up as Poco F2 outside of China. At least, the M1903F10 model could be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC.
It is unlikely that Redmi will launch two flagship phones with powered by the same Snapdragon 855 SoC. Hence, the other model could be an inferior model featuring the Snapdragon 730 SoC. Readers are advised to digest the report with a pinch of salt. With the launch expected this month, more details on the Redmi flagship phone may appear in the coming days.
The Mi Fit app is the official app for Xiaomi and Huami‘s (Amazfit) activity trackers and smartwatches. It also works with a bunch of other smart fitness products made by Xiaomi and its partner companies such as the Mi Smart Scales and smart shoes made by 90, Li-Ning, Kangnai, and Sprandi. The app was updated on Wednesday, May 8, and the update brings a new User Interface and some new features.
The new update gives the app a “Xiaomi -Orange” paint job but there is still a lot of white too. The important details such as your sleep activity, heart rate, and weight are now summarized in a centralized box instead of separately. Selecting any one of them will open a more detailed breakdown of the parameter. The images below show the difference in UI between the old version of the app (Left) and the new version (right).
[envira-gallery id=”252472″]
The changelog for the app on the Play Store says the data view has been optimized and the app now supports more types of workouts. However, there are already some reviews faulting the new user interface and the multiple “clicks” required to get to certain details which used to be at the forefront of the old app.
A report by IPlytics, an authorized patent data firm, shows that Chinese tech companies lead in worldwide 5G patent applications with Huawei in the first position. Chinese organizations bested the rundown for most 5G Standards-Essential Patents applications in correspondence frameworks as at the end of April, representing 34 percent of the world’s aggregate, the report indicates.
Chinese tech giant Huawei played a major role, laying claim to 15 percent of Standards-Essential Patents, according to the report. Standards-Essential Patents (5G SEPs) are mandatory patents any company will have to use when implementing standardized 5G technology licenses. Three the giants from China made it into the top 10 5G SEPs patents with Huawei leading the entire pack. Fellow Chinese firms ZET Corp and China Academy of Telecommunications Technology clinched the fifth and ninth spots, respectively. Another Chinese firm on the list is the Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunication Corp with 207 5G SEPs.
The next big thing in the tech industry is, no doubt, 5G technology. The race has been on between China and the U.S on who will be the first to roll out the technology. From the look of things, China has the upper hand and was billed to officially roll out its 5G network in Q1 2019. However, the technology is still being tested in both countries.
A report by Counterpoint Research on Wednesday indicates that Samsung has risen to the top of India’s premium smartphone segment in the first quarter of 2019 spurred by the Galaxy S10 sales. This is coming after the Korean giant had lost the top spot to OnePlus for three quarters in a row.
The underlying take-up for the Galaxy S10 arrangement drove Samsung to the number one position in the premium segment, said the statistical analytics firm. OnePlus came second as its seasonal cycle near. However, the OnePlus 6T retains its title as the best-selling premium smartphone in the first quarter of 2019, a title it has held since its launch last year.
The top three premium brands in India in Q1 2019 including Samsung, OnePlus and Apple accounted for 90 percent of the shipment made in the segment. Other smartphone brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo share the rest of the 10 percent of the market share. However, Apple, however, is still struggling to curtail its decline as a result of its excessive pricing. The company may start manufacturing iPhones in India in order to save 20 per cent import duty on its devices, the report added.
According to Karn Chauhan, Research Analyst, Mobile Devices at Counterpoint, “The success of Galaxy S10 series and OnePlus 6T highlights the trend of an expanding premium segment in India.” He also added, “Users who are buying their second or third smartphone are already considering an upgrade into the premium segment. Another reason for the growth in the premium segment is a plethora of offers and installment plans available.”

Design
The design is undoubtedly the main focus of the Huawei P Smart Z. As said above, it is the first Huawei’s phone with a pop-up front camera, which allows the display to reach a screen-to-body ratio close to 100 percent without the need of a notch, neither a punch-hole display. A trend launched by Vivo with the NEX, and it is becoming one of the most used solutions to get rid of bezels around the display. Further, the Huawei P Smart Z comes with a very attractive Google Pixel-like back cover composed of two pieces of different colors. Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are still very beautiful with their waterdrop display and their stunning glass backs available in gradient hues, but Huawei P Smart Z is definitely more original and innovative.
Display
Even when it comes to the display, Huawei P Smart Z is my favorite one. It has a wider 6.59-inch panel which is more comfortable for multimedia and productivity, as well as high brightness, good viewing angles, and no notch. It is still a midrange-class panel, but it is definitely more interesting than Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite. On the other hand, Huawei P30 Lite offers a smaller and more compact display (easy to use with one hand) with similar quality.
Specs & Software
Huawei P Smart Z is powered by the new Kirin 710F chipset, while Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are equipped with the Kirin 710. According to Huawei, these two processors offer the same performance but different packaging processes. So, what really makes the difference is the memory configuration. And under this point of view, Huawei P Smart Z loses the comparison. Indeed, Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite (Chinese version only for the latter) come with up to 6 GB of RAM, while Huawei P Smart Z stops at 4 GB. In each case, you get Android Pie out of the box customized by EMUI.
Camera
Again, Huawei P Smart Z is the loser here. It has an average dual camera and it is far from being a true camera phone. In its most expensive variant, with its triple camera setup composed of a main 48 MP sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens and a 2 MP depth sensor, Huawei P30 Lite wins the camera comparison. But if we consider front cameras, then Honor 20 Lite is better with its astonishing 32 MP selfie snapper.
Battery
Alongside its innovative design, the battery is the strongest point of the Huawei P Smart Z. It wins the battery life comparison thanks to a big 4000 mAh unit, while Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are equipped with average 3400 and 3350 mAh batteries.
Price
Honor 20 Lite costs €299/$335 in the global market (4/128 GB), Huawei P Smart Z costs €280/$315 (4/64 GB) and Huawei P30 Lite starts from €290/$325 (4/128 GB). Overall, Huawei P Smart Z looks better due to its big battery, bigger display, and more innovative design. But if you want higher-end cameras, then go for the Huawei P30 Lite.
Two of the features Android Pie brings are Adaptive Brightness and Adaptive Battery. Android Q brings another one called Adaptive Sleep.
Some of those who have installed Android Q Beta 3 have discovered the new feature under the settings menu. If you are running Android Q Beta 3, search for Adaptive under the settings menu. If it is available for you, it should be among the search results.
The description for Adaptive Sleep says “Your screen would not dim and go to sleep if the device detects your present attention.”. From the description, it appears the phone will be able to detect if you are looking at it even if you are not touching it and prevent the screen from going to sleep.
This is similar to Samsung‘s Smart Stay which launched with the Galaxy S3. The feature made use of the phone’s front-facing camera to know if the user is looking at the screen.
