Huawei Enjoy 9S in pictures: Sleek design, triple cameras on a budget

Huawei continues to blaze the trail in the design of its smartphones and the internals as well. Little wonder the company still continues to sail stronger despite stiff pressures from the US. The Chinese smartphone market leader took the wraps off two Enjoy 9 series smartphones dubbed Enjoy 9S and Enjoy 9e which was launched alongside the MediaPad M5 Lite. Among the trio, Huawei Enjoy 9S stands out for its sleek premium body despite being a mid-range model. It is just apt that we share these cool pictures of the Enjoy 9S while we wait for a review unit to reach our team.Huawei enjoy 9S pictures

Huawei Enjoy 9S design isn’t really one that we haven’t seen before. It bears semblance on the front aspect with the budget Enjoy 9 launched in December last year. Even though this model packs features that definitely places it in the midrange segment, it is priced like a budget model. For one, the Enjoy 9S packs a triple camera setup at the rear arranged in a similar manner as the P20 Pro. The cameras include a 24MP primary sensor paired with a 16MP super-wide angle lens with an expansive 117° field of view. The third sensor is a 2MP depth sensor. With such an arrangement, we expect the device to be a photography expert. The back is covered with glass with an NCVM finish which gives it a ceramic outlook. there is equally a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.Huawei enjoy 9S

At the front aspect, the device features a 6.21-inch display with the waterdrop notch which houses an 8MP sensor for selfies. The screen has an 89 percent screen ratio with the bezels more prominent at the bottom edge. It also has an 85 percent wide color gamut. The display also has an Eye Comfort mode to protect your eyes from blue light.

Enjoy 9S

At the heart of the mobile phone, is a Kirin 710 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone will be available in 64GB and 128GB storage options priced at just 1499 yuan (~$223) and 1699 yuan (~$253). The sleek device also comes with GPU Turbo 2.0 for an optimum gaming experience. Proving the interface is an Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 OS. Keeping the lights on is a 3400mAh battery. The Enjoy 9S is indeed a topnotch beauty as can be seen on the pictures splash down below. It is expected to go on sale April 2.

Huawei executive teases 40W power bank that can charge the MateBook

At MWC 2019, Huawei announced the new MateBook 14 and a new version of the MateBook X Pro. Both come with a USB-C 65W power adapter and can be used to charge other devices too. It appears the manufacturer has a power bank in development that will be able to charge the notebook when you are on the road or away from a wall outlet.

Huawei MateBook 40W Power Bank

Earlier today, Huawei’s VP of mobile business, Li Xialong Bruce Lee, shared a photo of a Huawei MateBook connected to a device that’s covered up. Between the cable and the device which we believe is a power bank is a Power-Z USB Voltage Current Tester. The display on the tester shows the device is drawing 19.9V and 1.86A of current. The total power drawn is 37.19W.

Huawei 40W Power Bank b

One can deduce that the power bank supports USB Power Delivery and can support a maximum power output of 40W. Though not as fast as the 65W power adapter, this should keep the MateBook from running out of battery while in use. The power bank should also be able to charge your phones or other devices that support charging via USB Power Delivery.

Xiaomi reveals 100W Fast Charging tech, 4000mAh battery charged in just 17 minutes!

Gone are the days when Chinese companies blatantly copied western giants. In the past few years, companies coming out of China like Huawei and Xiaomi has pioneered a lot of modern-day innovations that go inside your phone. And it looks like the trend will continue for a foreseeable future.

Xiaomi 100W fast charging featured

Xiaomi has just revealed that it has successfully tested 100W fast charging for smartphones. Lin Bin, President and co-founder of Xiaomi revealed this news via a Weibo post a few hours ago. In the post, he revealed that the company’s engineers were able to achieve an astonishing 100W fast charging, which essentially charges a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 17 minutes! That’s nearly twice as fast as the SuperVOOC from OPPO, which is currently the fastest charging technology available in the market for a smartphone.

The company was even kind enough to show us that OPPO’s SuperVOOC could only charge up to 65 percent by the time the Xiaomi model on display was charged completely. By the way, Xiaomi’s 100W charging tech is being called as Super Charge Turbo, at least according to the video.

Unfortunately, apart from this demo, Xiaomi’s Lin Bin didn’t share any more details about the technology. So, the big question now is, whether we’ll see it anytime in the near future. We still haven’t met the real successor to the Mi Mix 3 yet (apart from a 5G edition), so it’s possible that the Mi Mix 4 could house this tech inside. Interestingly, the company seems to have teased the update to the Mix 3 model earlier today. So, it couldn’t have been a coincidence that Lin Bin decided to share this today. Anyway, let’s wait for more details before we get too excited. Stay tuned for more updates.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 2019 Hands on Pictures capture the tablet from all sides

Huawei today launched the MediaPad M5 Lite 2019 model alongside the Enjoy 9S and Enjoy 9e. The tablet is a successor to the model launched last year bearing the same name but having different specs configuration. Some of the design features are also different from last year’s models as can be seen from the hands-on pictures which we have brought to you, thanks to Chinese blog MyDrivers.

The MediaPad M5 Lite is a cheaper and cost-effective version of the MediaPad M5, with a starting price of 1199 yuan ($178) which is pretty impressive. This time around, Huawei made the tablet available in 8 inches and 10 inches display sizes. The M5 Lite is also available in LTE and WiFi versions. The 8-inch LTE version is pictured in these hands-on but we believe it is no different from its 10-inch sibling.Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite

Let’s take a look at the design. The MediaPad M5 Lite uses a metal body that is polished on all sides to give it a curved finish. The tablet weighs just 310 grams, slightly smaller than a bundle of A5 paper. The screen is an IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1200pixels. The display also has a 283ppi and 16:10 fullHD screen ratio. The aspect ratio means there is a sizeable amount of bezels on all four sides of the screen. The display is said to come with Blu-ray eye protection technology, automatic sitting posture adjustment and tablet timeout control settings.

The rear design has the Harman Kardon badge at the bottom which means the dual stereo speakers has the touch of Harman Kardon. The sound also come with support for Huawei’s Histen sound technology in order to achieve optimum sound quality. The tablet also supports voice control from up to a distance of 5 meters. The back is made of metal except for the top and bottom edges made of plastic due to the antenna band that runs through those areas. The rear camera is nested at the top left corner with a pronounced camera bulge. By the way, the tablet also has a selfie camera located at the top centre when the tablet is placed in a portrait position.Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite

At the top and bottom edges are quite pronounced speaker grills at the centre. As a result, the USB 2.0 port is at the bottom left corner and a 3.5mm audio jack is at the same position on the top edge. On the LTE variant, the SIM card slot is at the top left corner and the SIM tray has slots for two SIM while one of the slots also double as a microSD card slot. The right side of the display houses the power button and the volume rocker.

As a reminder, the MediaPad M5 Lite is powered by a Kirin 710 chipset and comes in 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB variants. It packs a huge 5100mAh battery which Huawei says can last up to 28 days on standby mode and can play videos continuously for 10.6 hours. The tablet comes in champagne gold and deep gray colours. Check out more pictures of the MediaPad M5 Lite from the gallery below.

Huawei Enjoy 9S vs Redmi Note 7 vs Honor 10 Lite: Specs Comparison

If you are from a European country and you are a Huawei fan, then you surely know the Huawei P Smart+ (2019), the recently-announced midrange which hitten the European market a few days ago. Well, today Huawei launched a very similar handset in the Chinese market: its name is Huawei Enjoy 9s and it comes with midrange-class specs at a very reasonable price. But will this phone be able to successfully challenge its angry rivals in the same price tag? Among these rivals, there are the best-selling Redmi Note 7 and another Huawei device whose sales may be cannibalized: the Honor 10 Lite. Here, we made a comparison between their main specifications in order to establish which one is the best midrange you can currently get.

Design

You should not worry so much about the aesthetics as all of these devices feature very beautiful bodies. If I was asked to choose one of them just by looking at the design and materials, I would go for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 because of the strong protection for its display (Gorilla Glass 5) and the water resistance (despite it is not IP-certified). Do not worry about the bezels as all of them come with a very high screen-to-body ratio and a waterdrop notch. And you can also get all of them in stunning gradient hues.

Display

The victory on the display side should go to the Huawei Enjoy 9S as it comes with a panel boasting slightly better parameters, at least on the paper. We are talking about a 6.21-inch screen with a Full HD+ resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Honor 10 Lite do not differ so much when it comes to their displays, so it would be better to look at the rest of the specs sheet in order to make a wise choice.

Specs & Software

Just like displays, even when it comes to hardware and performance these handsets are pretty similar. They all come with almost equivalent chipsets: the Kirin 710 on Huawei Enjoy 9S and Honor 10 Lite, and the Snapdragon 660 for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. Honor 10 Lite is the winner of the hardware comparison for a simple reason: it comes in a more powerful memory configuration. Indeed, it boasts up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage which you can furtherly expand with a micro SD card. In each case, you get Android 9 Pie out of the box, customized by a user interface (MIUI for Redmi Note 7 and EMUI for all the Huawei devices).

Camera

Honor 10 Lite loses the camera comparison because of its lower-end rear cameras, but note that it has a better selfie camera with a 24 MP resolution which can provide a very high level of detail paired with pretty nice AI features. Huawei Enjoy 9S is the one I prefer because it has a triple camera setup including an ultrawide sensor which is very useful for today’s photos. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 delivers a stunning photo quality thanks to its 48 MP main sensor found on the rear dual camera setup, so do not underestimate it.

Battery

The battery is definitely the component which makes the difference here. While Huawei Enjoy 9S and Honor 10 Lite have a standard 3400 mAh unit, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 comes with an oversized 4000 mAh battery which makes it last a lot more on a single charge. You can reach up to two days of moderate use with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, while Huawei Enjoy 9S and Honor 10 Lite usually need to be charged before 1.5 days.

Price

If you want to bring a unit of the Huawei Enjoy 9S or the Honor 10 Lite at home, you are willing to pay about €200/$225 and €210/$235 respectively, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 costs just $149 in China and €179/$205 globally. Overall, Redmi Note 7 wins the comparison thanks to its bigger battery, nice build quality, and great cameras.

Sketch and 3D renders of Sharp’s patented foldable phone with clamshell design leaked

Japanese tech giant Sharp decided to shift its focus to the European market in terms of smartphone sales. Since then, we have seen a couple of Sharp models such as the Aquos D10, C10, B10 and others. Despite the seeming success of the models released, the tech company is still a far off from the top tier category of smartphone manufacturers in terms of market share. In a bid to further ramp up its relevance in the industry, Sharp may have concluded plans to launch a foldable smartphone in the near future.Sharp foldable patent

A patent by Sharp suggests that the company may have commenced development of a foldable phone. The patent was actually filed in 2017 with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The sketch of the design shows that the Sharp foldable may come with a clamshell design. With such a design, we should be looking forward to a display which would be around 4 inches when the device is folded. The aspect ratio may also be a source for concern but we believe the device may feature a wider display. Another good thing about this clamshell is that it makes the device to be compact such that it woud easy to carry in the pocket. LetsGoDigital eqully poted some 3D renders designed based on the sketch. The 3D renders, no doubt, gives us better idea of the design.

This year will likely see the birth of several foldable phones. Already, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Fold and Huawei, the Mate X. Xiaomi had also teased its foldabble phone which we expect to drop this year. Other OEMs such as LG, Motorola, and OPPO are also said to hve got a foldable phone in the works. It is yet to be seen if Sharp will release its own foldable phone this year. The clamshell phones of yore are said to be popular in Japan even after they have gone into extinction in other markets. As at five years back, 1 in 4 phones sold in Japan had the clamshell design.

Huawei P30 series will come with EMUI 9.1, new teaser reveals

The latest version of EMUI is version 9.0.1 which began rolling out to some devices and shipping with others right out of the box. However, the Huawei P30 series will be coming with a new version called EMUI 9.1.

EMUI 9.1 + Huawei P30

The info was revealed by the official EMUI Weibo account today along with a teaser poster.

It has become a sort of tradition for Huawei to release a new version of its OS when it launches a new flagship phone. EMUI 9.1 is expected to bring lots of new features but will still be based on Android 9 Pie. We have no info yet but we bet a lot will have to do with AI and new ways to interact with your environment using your phone. The good news is some of the features will be available to older models while some may not due to hardware differences.

The Huawei P30 series will be unveiled in Paris tomorrow. Over the past few weeks, there have been tons of leaks and info about the phones which include the P30 Lite, the P30, and the P30 Pro. One of the most anticipated features of the new series is the 10x optical zoom which lets you take clear and detailed images after zooming in.

Patent shows future Black Shark phones will have a notch and ToF camera

Just last week, Black Shark launched a new gaming smartphone called the Black Shark 2. It is its third gaming phone since it entered into the phone manufacturing business last year. Today, patent diagrams of what might be its next phone have surfaced online and they reveal some big changes coming to the Black Shark line.

The design patent was filed back in December 2018 by Xiaomi at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) before it was published last week.

Black Shark Sky gaming phone patent

All the Black Shark gaming phones released till date do not have a notch but the Black Shark 3 or whatever the next one is named might have one according to the diagrams. One of them has a waterdrop notch and there is another with a wider notch. Since there is a notch, the bezels have been shaved off.

The Black Shark gaming phones support external controllers that are attached to the sides of the phone, so you shouldn’t have to worry about your hands covering the screen while playing.

Another new feature the next phone may have is triple rear cameras. The third camera is said to be a ToF sensor for 3D object scanning, AR, and 3D photography. Since this is a gaming phone, we won’t be surprised if game developers release 3D objects that can be purchased and scanned to be used in their games.

For example, you can purchase a figurine for a new character or weapon and all you have to do is do a 3D scan with the camera which then adds the character or weapon to your profile. So you have a new character/weapon to use in the game and also a figurine which can be part of a collection.

There are also diagrams showing the phone with two cameras. So don’t be surprised if Xiaomi doesn’t add the ToF Sensor yet.

Nokia X71 with 48-megapixel triple camera to debut on April 2 in Taiwan

HMD Global has confirmed to some Taiwanese tech publications that it will be holding a new smartphone named Nokia X71 in Taiwan. The launch event will be held on April 2 in the country. The Finnish firm will be also announcing the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone in Taiwan alongside the Nokia X71 smartphone.

HMD Global has launched couple of smartphones with notched displays in the recent past. However, the Nokia X71 will be arriving with a better full experience than any other phone launched by the company. It could be the first phone from the company to arrive with punch-hole display.

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech expo that was held at the end of February, HMD Global had unveiled the penta-lens camera setup enabled Nokia 9 PureView smartphone and a couple of budget-friendly phones such as Nokia 3.2, Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 1 Plus. Since the company did not announce a mid-range phone at MWC 2019, the Nokia X71 could be arriving with mid-range specs. It could be arriving as a successor of the Nokia 6.1 Plus or Nokia 8.1 smartphone.

The press release by HMD Global confirms that the smartphone will be equipped with a triple camera unit that will include 48-megapixel primary sensor and 120-degree super wide-angle lens. The other specs of the phone are currently under the wraps. The Nokia TA-1167 smartphone that was recently approved by the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan. Probably, the Nokia TA-1167 could be the upcoming Nokia X71 smartphone. The NCC certification of the phone had revealed that it will be coming with the same Salcomp AD-18WU charger that was made available with the Nokia 7 Plus phone from last year.

Also, it could be the same phone that was spotted in 3D renders as Nokia 8.1 Plus few months ago. The 3D renders had revealed that it is equipped with a punch-hole display and a vertically arranged triple camera unit on its rear.

The launch event on April 2 in Taiwan will begin at 1:30 PM (local time). As of this writing, there is no information available on the pricing of Nokia X71 and Nokia 9 PureView for Taiwan.

Huawei Enjoy 9e and Enjoy 9S announced, price starts at ¥999 (~$149)

Huawei had an event today where it announced two new phones – the  Kirin 710-powered Enjoy 9S and the more affordable Enjoy 9e.

Huawei Enjoy 9S

Enjoy 9S

The Enjoy 9S is a beautiful phone covered in glass on the front and rocking an NCVM finish on the back which gives it a ceramic-like appearance.

The phone isn’t just attractive on the outside, it packs pretty interesting specs to match. The screen measures 6.21 inches with a waterdrop notch at the top to house the 8MP front-facing camera. Huawei says the screen has a screen-to-body ratio of 89% and an 85% wide color gamut. The display also has an Eye Comfort mode to protect your eyes from blue light.

The selling point of the phone is its triple rear camera system made up of a 24MP primary camera, a 16MP super-wide angle lens with a 117° field of view, and a 2MP depth sensor. The super-wide angle camera comes in handy for those group selfies and landscape photos while the 2MP depth sensor helps with taking great portrait images.

There are AI features such as scene recognition (over 500), a super night scene mode, and HiVision for real-time translation, calorie calculation, and object identification. The Enjoy 9S can also record slow-motion videos at 480 frames per second.

A less-powerful model but with some few party tricks of its own called the Enjoy 9e was the second phone launched today.

The Enjoy 9e has a 6.09-inch 1560 x 720 display with a Dewdrop notch and an 87% screen-to-body ratio. Above the screen is a thin speaker grille that also houses the proximity and light sensors and a notification LED.

Huawei Enjoy 9e camera

The Enjoy 9e has a single 13MP f/1.8 camera on its back which Huawei claims takes in up to 50% more light than an f/2.2 sensor. The front camera is an 8MP f/2.0 sensor with a beauty mode and support for face unlock.

Although it doesn’t have the Enjoy 9S’s triple camera setup, the Enjoy 9e might come in handy when hanging out with your friends. Switch to Party Mode, and you don’t need a Bluetooth speaker to fill up a room with friends.

Huawei Enjoy 9e SuperSound technology

Huawei claims its audio output is about 50% louder than that of other phones. The Enjoy 9e also has a headset-free FM radio which also takes advantage of the SuperSound technology.

The phone runs EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie, has a dedicated MicroSD card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 4.2, single band Wi-Fi, and packs a 3,020mAh battery. Unfortunately, Huawei ships it with a 5V/1A charger.
