The Redmi Note 7 Pro that features 48-megapixel dual camera was recently unveiled in India. The smartphone is scheduled to go official on March 18 in China. Ahead of its Chinese launch, Redmi has been teasing the features of the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Lu Weibing has shared a night mode shot that was captured using the Note 7 Pro. The image reveals that the smartphone can capture stunning photos in dim-light conditions.

In the below image, the billboard lights and decorative light appear rich and clear. Even darker areas like the ground are also visible. The overall brightness of the image is a bit low.

Unlike the Redmi Note 7 that features Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 48-megapixel sensor in its dual camera setup, the Note 7 Pro is equipped with a more powerful Sony IMX586 48-megapixel lens in its dual camera module. The Sony sensor coupled with Xiaomi’s night mode software optimization makes it possible to shoot brighter images in low-light scenarios.

Today, Xiaomi’s co-founder and President of Xiaomi Group China, Wang Chuan, made an announcement through Weibo that the Xiaomi Mi 8 Fingerprint Edition, which was launched last year, will get the new Game Turbo technology that’s present in the company’s new flagship, Xiaomi Mi 9.

In the same post, he said that the introduction of this new feature will improve the phone’s gaming performance. The Mi 8 Fingerprint Edition will be available for purchase in China from tomorrow 10:00 AM in 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model through major online retailers for 2,499 Yuan, roughly $373.

Xiaomi claims that the Game Turbo technology drastically improves the performance as it dynamically adjusts the CPU frequency according to the game rendering load. With intelligent scheduling of CPU frequency, the CPU is operated at a lower frequency in a less loaded scenario which reduces system power consumption.

On the other hand, the company says that in the scenes with large renderings such as multiplayer team battles, more active system resources are invested, which effectively increases the frame rate of the picture and reduces frame dropping.

As the name itself suggests, the Mi 8 Fingerprint Edition is another variant of the Mi 8 which comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner. According to the company, its unlock speed is 29% higher and the success rate has improved by up to 8.8%.

Rest of the phone’s specifications remains the same as Mi 8. It features a 6.21-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 2248 x 1080 resolution and a notch. There is a Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Alongside having an in-display fingerprint scanner, the phone also keeps the infrared face unlock of the regular Mi 8. The cameras on the rear are dual 12MP sensors with OIS and optical zoom while a 20MP f/2.0 sensor sits within the notch. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box and is powered by a 3,400mAh battery with support for fast charging technology.

Smartphone Market expected to further decline in 2019; 5G adoption to touch 26% by 2023: IDC

It’s been the third consecutive year since 2017 when we will witness a further decline in the smartphone shipments. As per a new report from IDC, the smartphone shipments will drop by 0.8% in comparison with the last year. The smartphone shipments will dip to 1.39 billion this year. Although, the market seems to recover in the second half of 2019 with the year-on-year growth of 2.3%. Moreover, in the coming years, the smartphone industry will boom with a surge in smartphone volumes to 1.54 billion by 2023.

As per the report, the smartphone market is expected to be back on the growth path by the end of this year. 5G smartphones are also going to cater to the growth in the upcoming few years. IDC’s vice president, Ryan Reith has said that the reason behind the expected growth is still unknown. He further added that many reasons such as longer replacements cycles, competition from the Chinese market and various other reasons are the culprit behind sluggish growth in the past couple of years.

“The biggest question that remains unanswered is what will bring the smartphone industry back to growth,” said Ryan Reith, program vice president with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers. “There is no question industry growth has been down for reasons that have already been identified – longer replacement cycles, a challenged China market, and geopolitical headwinds – but it is shortsighted to overlook the possibilities of some important technology advancements that are within reach with 5G probably being the most significant.”

In the year 2019, the industry is expected to witness new advancements with the introduction of foldable devices and 5G smartphones. Mainly, 5G phones are supposed to represent 0.5 percent of the total smartphones shipments among 1.395 billion smartphone volumes. Although, at snail’s pace the 5G shipments will only grow upto 26% in 2023. In other words out of 1541 billion of total shipments 26% percent will be 5G devices. In 2023, the year-on-year growth of smartphones will be at 1.7 percent.

This year is quite challenging for foldable devices. Speaking on the occasion, Sangeetika Srivastava, senior research analyst with IDC added that “Though the 5G developments and foldable screen buzz is yet to have a reality check from users, 2019 will be surely marked as a year of modernization in the smartphone market.”

Many big manufacturers have already announced 5G smartphones. Samsung has launched its Galaxy Fold with other high-end specs, while Huawei has announced the Mate X foldable phone. Similarly, some Chinese smartphone manufacturers have also come up with foldable devices. These launches will surely cater 5G adoption growth in the upcoming few months. Further, many foldable devices are pending for launch by the end of this year.

Talking about 4G shipments, then it will slowly reduce to 1105 billion shipments in 2023 by -4.4% YoY growth from 1336 billion in 2019. In total, 4G market share will dip from 95.4% to 71.7% in 2023. The ageing 3G technology will shrink to 2% in 2023 from 4.1% current market share.

The stats are quite interesting if we take a look at the growth of the smartphone market. The new generation smartphones will be witnessing a significant growth in the upcoming few years.

Huawei sues the United States for banning its Equipments

Huawei said that it is suing the United States of America in a bid to oppose the country’s decision to bar government agencies from purchasing their equipment citing security threat. The Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics manufacturer made the revelation on Thursday.

As part of its most aggressive move yet, Huawei has filed a lawsuit in a US District Court in Plano, Texas, throwing down the gauntlet to a 2019 US defense bill that restricts federal agencies from getting their hands on Huawei-branded products as well as its services.

The new US law even prevents US government agencies from collaborating with third parties that buy products or services from Huawei.

In his latest statement, Huawei’s rotating chairman Guo Ping pointed out that the US Congress hasn’t been able to support its decision to ban Huawei products with sufficient shreds of evidence. As a result, the company is left with no choice but to take this legal action.

“If this law is set aside, as it should be, Huawei can bring more advanced technologies to the United States and help it build the best 5G networks,” Guo Ping added.

According to the United States, equipment manufactured by Huawei is highly likely to be exploited by the Chinese Communist government in order to keep other countries under surveillance and interfere with crucial communications.

Vivo X27 appears in real skin in fresh leak

Vivo has confirmed that the Vivo X27 smartphone will be made official on March 19. The handset will be arriving to replace the Vivo X23 smartphone from last year. A few leaked images of the Vivo X27 has appeared on Weibo.

The Vivo X27 leaked images show that its appearance will be quite similar to the Vivo V15 Pro that was recently announced in India. Like the V15 Pro, the upcoming X-series phone from Vivo features a notch-less display. It features a slightly thick chin while the three bezels are quite thin and appear to be of equal size. It features a pop-up selfie shooter.

The back panel of the Vivo X27 seems to be made out of glass. The side edges of the smartphone’s rear shell are curved. The AI triple camera setup featuring an LED flash between the first and second camera lenses is available on the top-left corner of the X27’s launch. There is no fingerprint reader on the backside of the X27. The reason behind it is that it is equipped with an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Through the TENAA listing of the smartphone, it has been found that it will be featuring a 6.39-inch S-AMOLED display that produces full HD+ resolution. The Snapdragon 710 SoC is speculated to be the driving force of the smartphone. The 128 GB and 256 GB editions of the phone are expected to be equipped with 8 GB of RAM.

The triple camera module will feature a 48-megapixel primary senor. There is no confirmation on whether it will be equipped with the Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor. The other lenses that are available on inside the Vivo X27’s triple camera setup are a 13-megapixel secondary sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It is expected to arrive with a 16-megapixel pop-up front camera. The handset includes a battery of around 4,000mAh capacity. It is likely to include 22.5W rapid charging like the Vivo X23 smartphone. As of this writing, there is no information available on the pricing of the Vivo X27.

Samsung recently launched the third smartphone in its all-new India-exclusive M series — Samsung Galaxy M30. Previously, the company had launched the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 smartphones under its M-series in India.

Now today, the Samsung Galaxy M30 is all set to go on sale for the first time, exclusively through online marketplace Amazon.in and Samsung Online Store, at 12:00 PM IST. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed through Weibo that the Vivo X27 will be announced on March 19 through a launch event in China.

The Vivo X27 launch poster only confirms the unveil date but does not reveal any details on its specs. Rumors are rife that the Vivo phone model number V1829A/V1829T that was recently certified by TENAA telecom authority could be the Vivo X27.

The V1829A/T Vivo smartphone has a notch-less display like the Vivo NEX and Vivo V15 Pro. The 6.39-inch AMOLED screen of the phone is embedded with an under-display fingerprint sensor. The handset is powered by an octa-core processor that clocks at 2.2 GHz. It is speculated that it could be featuring the Snapdragon 710 mobile platform. Black Shark 2 Geekbench listing with Snapdragon 855, 12 GB of RAM spotted

In the past week, a new Xiaomi Black Shark gaming phone was certified by the 3C authority of China. Also, Black Shark CEO Wu Shimin had revealed earlier this week that the Black Shark 2 will be launching soon with Liquid Cool 3.0 technology. Multiple listings of the “Black Shark AAA” smartphone have appeared on Geekbench. As usual, the Geekbench listing has revealed the key specs of the phone.

All the Geekbench listings of the rumored Black Shark 2 show that it is powered by the Qualcomm’s most powerful Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. The SoC is assisted by 12 GB of RAM. The Android 9 Pie OS is loaded on the device. In the single-core and multi-core benchmarking tests of Geekbench, the Black Shark AA handset has respectively scored 3516 and 11413 points.

In January, the purported Black Shark 2 was spotted with Snapdragon 855 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. In the single core test, it had scored 3494 and 11419 in the multi-core test. Hence, it appears that the smartphone will be available 8 GB and 12 GB RAM variants. These handsets may respectively feature 128 GB and 256 GB of native storage. The inclusion of Liquid Cooling 3.0 technology suggests that the Black Shark 2 may come with a larger cooling pipe.

Chinese customs withhold clearance for 1600 Tesla Model 3 over minor issues

Over the past few months, the world has continued to watch as the US/China trade ties continue to deteriorate. China has always been on the receiving end but we expect Beijing to react in its own way. China made have commenced its own clampdown on US companies. A recent report in the media has shown that China’s auto import port customs have suspended the release of Tesla Model 3 even after several units have left the ports already. The Chinese customs says it will notify dealers who have already cleared their shipment not to sell or use the electric car.

The reasons given for the decision to withhold issuance of clearance for the Tesla Model 3 makes this all look like retaliation as the relationship between the US and China approaches its lowest level. Authorities say the logo on the car is out of specification. The Commodity Inspection Department of the General Administration of Customs issued a warning notice on March 1st, referring to the above requirements. According to the Commodity Inspection Department, Shanghai Customs found in the inspection of imported vehicles that four batches of 1600 Tesla Model 3 logos were not in compliance. In addition, the automotive brake fluid tanks on the 1600 models were said to have English warning signs without a corresponding Chinese translation. Ironically, most products from China that ship overseas most times come with Chinese texts on the user manual.

The reasons that were given for withholding customs clearance for the 1600 Model 3 also include such infractions like the absence of a vehicle nameplate or the vehicle model. The motor power indicator also didn’t match the actual power. This may very well be routine safety checks and may be unconnected to the simmering US/China trade dispute.

Opinion poll: Huawei Mate X vs Galaxy Fold – Most respondents prefer the Mate X

This year’s edition of the Mobile World Congress was mostly dominated by 5G and foldable smartphones. Talking of foldable phones, the Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold were the only models showcased at the event but the media attention generated was enough to ensure we keep talking about foldable phones for the rest of the year and beyond. Since Huawei announced the Mate X, debates have been ongoing as to which of the two models is the best foldable phone around. No doubt opinions will be sharply divergent on this question but a recent poll conducted by Android Authority has given us an idea of the model most fans prefer. The Mate X is crowned as the most preferred foldable model. The poll had over 60,000 respondents and was conducted across the blog’s website as well as its social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube). In the end, about 39 percent of the respondents preferred the Mate X while 28 percent prefer the Fold. Surprisingly, about 30 percent of the respondents say they won’t be getting any of the models.

Yours sincerely agrees with the majority view in this poll as the Mate X represents what we consider as a foldable phone, at least while the concept was still brewing. A good number of those who responded think so too with some preferring the Mate X because of its lay-flat design and the larger display screen when in the folded state. The Matex X packs a 6.6-inch display which unfolds into an 8-inch tablet. On the other hand, the Galaxy Fold has a 4.6-inch outer screen and a separate inner screen which is 7.6 inches when unfolded.

Most of the respondents who prefer the Galaxy Fold cite the plastic screen which can easily get scratched for their decision to prefer the Fold over the Mate X. The design of the Fold ensures the folding screen is protected while the smaller screen is in use. However, the Mate X uses the foldable screen for its phone and tablet mode and this, some think can get damaged or scratched easily.

Opinions will continue to be divided but we believe that just like 5G, the foldable phone design and hardware will continue to evolve over time until it gets to a point where durability won’t be one of our worries.
