Sony Xperia XA3 Plus/Ultra price and color variants leaked

Sony had announced the Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra smartphones through the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) January this year. The XA2 came with a 5.2-inch display whereas the Xperia XA2 Ultra featured a 6-inch screen. The Sony Xperia XA2 Plus handset with 6-inch display was announced in September. Rumors are rife that the Japanese tech giant will be announcing new smartphones at the beginning of the coming year. According to Droid Shout, Sony will be announcing Sony Xperia XA3, Xperia XA3 Plus and Xperia L3 at (CES) 2019 show. The publication has also shared the color variants and pricing of the upcoming large-sized Xperia XA model.

Multiple leaks have claimed that the Sony Xperia XA3 Ultra will be launching alongside Xperia XA3 and Xperia L3 at CES 2019. However, the publication has mentioned XA3 Plus instead of XA3 Ultra as the one of the Sony devices that are pegged to go official at CES 2019. Could this mean that Sony will releasing the Xperia XA3 Plus instead of XA3 Ultra? Newer leaks are expected to confirm on the names of the Sony phones that will be announced at CES 2019.

The publication has claimed that the handset will be carrying a price tag of 519 euros (~$595) in Europe. Also, the handset will be announced in color options such as Black, Gold and Silver.

There is no information available on the specifications of the Xperia XA3 Plus. The handset is expected to feature an 18:9 aspect ratio display like its predecessor. The Xperia XA2 Plus has Snapdragon 630 onboard. Hence, it is likely that the Japanese tech giant may opt for a more SoC such as Snapdragon 636 or Snapdragon 660 or higher. The Sony Xperia XA3 will be featuring smaller display, lesser RAM, smaller storage and a weaker battery than its larger sibling. However, it could be powered by the same SoC. The handset was spotted on Geekbench a few months ago with Snapdragon 660 chipset onboard.

The Sony Xperia L3 will be an entry-level smartphone. The handset is rumored to feature a 5.7-inch display that supports HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Xiaomi Poco F2 Geekbench listing reveals CPU and RAM

A smartphone labelled as “Xiaomi POCO F2” has been spotted on Geekbench. The name of the smartphone suggests that it could be the successor of the well-received Poco F1 budget-friendly flagship phone from Xiaomi. As usual, the Geekbench listing of the Poco F2 has revealed key information on its CPU, RAM and OS.

The Poco F2 listing on Geekbench reveals that it is fueled by Snapdragon 845 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. The original Poco F1 also features the same chipset and RAM. The Poco F2 is loaded with Android 9 Pie OS. In the single-core benchmarking test of Geekbench, the handset recorded a score of 2321. In the multi-core test, it has scored 7564.

Since the Poco F2 is equipped with the same processor and RAM as the predecessor model, it appears that it will be arriving with improvements in other departments such as display, camera and battery. The Poco F1 features a wider notch that houses a 20-megapixel selfie shooter and an IR sensor for dim-light facial recognition. Probably, the Poco F2 could be equipped with an improved display with smaller notch.

Flagship phones from Xiaomi have failed to gain popularity outside of China. Hence, the company reportedly established the Pocophone sub-brand to sell affordable flagship phones. The Poco F1 that features a polycarbonate build is the cheapest Snapdragon 845 chipset powered handset.

Xiaomi has recently rolled out the Android 9 Pie update with MIUI 10 skin for the Poco F1. It is equipped with a 6.18-inch IPS LCD screen that supports full HD+ resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. For photography, the Poco F1 has 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup on its rear. The back shell of the smartphone also features a fingerprint scanner. Earlier this year in October, Microsoft launched two new products in China — Surface Headphone and Surface Studio 2. However, at that time, the company has not revealed the pricing and availability information.

Now, the company has updated the listing of both the devices on its online store indicating that both the devices will be available soon. The company has announced that the devices will be available for pre-sale from 3rd January. However, the pricing details still remain unknown.

Microsoft claims that the Surface Studio 2 is the “most powerful Surface ever.” It promises more “vibrancy, high graphics performance, and fast processing.” The company says that it is 38 percent brighter, with 22 percent more contrast.

It comes with a 28-inch PixelSense multi-touch 3:2 display and is powered by Intel Core i7-7820HQ 7th generation chipset, coupled with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 Graphics / GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 graphics.

It comes with either 16GB or 32GB RAM with 1TB or 2TB SSD. As for the camera, the device comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with support for Full HD video recording. There’s also a 3.5mm headset jack, Stereo 2.1 speakers with Dolby Audio Premium and dual microphones.

It comes with four USB 3.0 ports, Full-size SD card reader (SDXC) compatible, 1 x USB-C, and 1 Gigabit Ethernet port. For connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and Xbox Wireless. The device also comes with Surface Pen, Zero Gravity Hinge, and TPM 2.0 chip for enterprise security.

The Microsoft Surface Headphones is the company’s first premium and smart headphones that is claimed to offer rich audio with 40mm Free Edge driver and hands-free calling. There’s also support for adjustable noise cancellation that features automatic pause and play function. It can even pause the movie or video you are watching when you remove them from your ears.

The Surface Headphones also comes with built-in Cortana digital assistant to offer proactive guidance, read emails and more. Apple files patent of different smartphone designs for a foldable iPhone

Samsung recently demonstrated its foldable smartphone at Samsung Developers Conference 2018, which the company is all set to launch in early 2019. The South Korean giant is reportedly going to showcase the smartphone at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month.

Apart from Samsung, China-based Huawei is also going to launch its foldable smartphone next year. Now, a patent application from Apple reveals that the company is also looking to enter the foldable smartphones market.

Apple filed a patent in March of 2018 and which has now been publicly posted by the US Patent & Trademark Office. The patent shows that Apple is brainstorming various ways to make a foldable iPhone. The illustrations associated with the patent reveals a smartphone that folds both ways — inwards and outwards, known in the industry as fold-in or fold-out configurations.

In comparison, Samsung‘s flexible smartphone flexes only one way — inwards. As per the reports, this is because of unavailability of a screen that can stretch and survive a fold-out motion. However, Apple seems to be planning to do the same.

The patent describes the use of an OLED panel which makes a screen that can withstand multiple bends. Apple has slowly been switching away from LED since last year’s iPhone X. The company has also invented a coating, which combines a polymer with pigment flakes.

The coating once applied to an OLED panel (via spraying, dipping, or even printing), becomes a protective surface that can twist and turn without cracking or wearing easily.

The patent application means that the company is considering to create something but there’s no guarantee that it will be making the foldable iPhones. So, there’s no information available when the foldable iPhones could launch or if they will ever be made.

Recent reports have revealed that Google is working on budget-friendly versions of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. These devices are to release with Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite monikers. Fresh information shared by Android Police reveals that the search engine giant may unleash the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite smartphone in early spring.

Citing information received from a source that is familiar with Google’s plans, the publication has revealed that the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite will be available through Verizon in early spring 2019. This suggests that these handsets may get announced in April or May in the coming year.

In the previous month, the images of the Pixel 3 Lite and its key specifications were revealed by a Russian tech blog. The existence of the Pixel 3 XL Lite was known for the first time when reliable tipster @OnLeaks shared its renders along with Pixel 3 XL.

The Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite will be featuring 18.5:9 aspect ratio displays. The Pixel 3 Lite will be a smaller device with 5.5-inch display whereas the Pixel 3 XL Lite could be a bigger phone with 6-inch screen.

The Pixel 3 Lite will be fueled by Snapdragon 670 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. The Pixel 3 XL Lite may feature the same camera sensors that will be available on its smaller sibling. The larger device is rumored to carry a bigger internal storage and battery. Probably, it could be fueled by the Snapdragon 710 chipset.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 Lite have respective starting prices of $799 and $899. Hence, there is a possibility that their Lite version could be priced around $400 and $500. In the U.S., the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite will be available through Verizon. These handsets could be also aimed towards emerging markets to expand its presence.

Nokia 9 case renders reaffirm penta-lens camera setup

Nokia 9 is trending on the path of becoming just more than an advertised product, though still void of recognition from the phone’s manufacturer, the purported Nokia 9 according to leaks will come with a Penta-camera set up that might bring Nokia “PureView” to a different level.

From a new case render leaks today, featuring different angles of the supposed Nokia 9. The render shares similarities with the former case render that has been seen. All render poses seven holes for housing five cameras set up, one optic sensor and a flash, a mic-hole is positioned just above the Penta-camera set in these recent leaks and the previous renders. Moreover, these renders do not display the front of the device, which was only featured in the supposed OnLeaks renders. However, with these series of renders, we might be expecting a finishing design of the Nokia 9. As at November, there was a leak of a full Computer Aided Diagram (CAD) render of the Nokia 9, and for all we know, these featured renders could be based mainly on those renders and basically a Nokia device. However, since the three models have been officially certified for Bluetooth, definitely a real Nokia should be around the corner.

Following the company’s trademark registration back in August, this device is believed to feature the “PureView” branding. Also, rumour has it that it will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 CPU, 8GB of RAM for the smooth running of the device, a 5.9-inch quality High Definition display (QHD) coupled with 18:9 aspect ratio and an in-display fingerprint at the rear. Several sources have disclosed that the device will be launched in the latter part of January 2019.

Design

Besides having one of the highest screen-to-body ratio and a tri-borderless design without a notch, Honor V20 has one of the most impressive back covers ever seen. Indeed, not only it comes in gradient colors, but it also has a V on its rear panel changing its color and position depending on the viewing angle from which you look at it. If you want a soberer design, then you should go for the Huawei Nova 4 which comes with a beautiful look and gradient colors without that light effect, while Samsung Galaxy A8s is the thinnest one but also the tallest one due to its slightly thicker bezels.

Display

If you want the best display quality, you should not choose any of these handsets. They come with typical midrange displays: IPS panels with a Full HD+ resolution just like most of the devices with price tags above $200. The only amazing thing of these displays are their incredibly narrow bezels and, as said above, the display hole housing the front camera which allows them to sport a tri-borderless design without a notch, a slider and so on. Even Samsung Galaxy A8s has an IPS panel, despite the whole Galaxy A series being equipped with AMOLED displays.

Hardware/Software

Huawei Honor V20 has the most powerful processor, so also the best performance. We are talking about the new Kirin 980 that is the same found on the Huawei Mate 20 series, made with a 7 nm production process. Together with the Kirin 980, you can also get up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage with a micro SD slot separated from the dual SIM slot, so you can use both at the same time. Honor V20 still comes with a high-end processor, but it is the older and less impressive Kirin 970 which is inferior to the Snapdragon 845. At last, Samsung Galaxy A8s has just an upper-midrange SoC: the Snapdragon 710. Android Pie is pre-installed in each case.

Camera

At least on the paper, the most amazing camera department belongs to Huawei Nova 4. It is the first phone to sport the new 48 MP Sony sensor with the highest resolution ever seen in the smartphones market. A sensor offering no loss of detail even while zooming, paired with a secondary 16 MP sensor and a third 2 MP depth sensor. Honor V20 has a 48 MP camera too, but it is a dual camera setup and it only includes a TOF 3D camera besides the main sensor. While on the paper Huawei Nova 4 seems the most impressive camera phone, we will have to try each of these devices to give a final verdict on their cameras.

Battery

Huawei Nova 4 is a bit thicker than its rivals, but it has the biggest battery and it is able to last more on a single charge. With 4000 mAh, you should be able to cover a full day of battery life even in intensive scenarios. Further, it comes with a faster-charging technology. Huawei Nova 4 takes the second place with a smaller battery than Honor V20 but much bigger than Galaxy A8s’ 3400 mAh unit.

Price

The listing price of Huawei Honor V20 is about €460/$526, Huawei Nova 4 costs about €480/$548 and Samsung Galaxy A8s carries a €393/$450 price tag. These prices are referred to the Chinese market as these devices are still not in the global market. I like more the Honor V20 because of its higher performance, magnetic design, and bigger battery, so I would personally choose it.

Nokia 9 PureView may launch in January last week

Nokia fans are eagerly waiting for the launch of the Nokia 9 PureView. Multiple leaks have revealed that the handset will be featuring a penta-lens camera setup. The TA-1094 model number was recently certified Bluetooth SIG body. Usually, it takes around a month for a device to go official once it receives Bluetooth SIG approval. Hence, it is being speculated that HMD Global may launch it by the end of January or early February. According to an active Nokia community from Russia with Nokia anew Twitter account, the Finnish firm will be announcing the smartphone in the last week of January.

The display design of the Nokia 9 PureView suggests that it may feature an 18:9 aspect ratio screen like the Nokia 8 Sirrocco. The handset may carry support for Quad HD+ resolution.

MediaTek Helio P90 AnTuTu benchmarks reveal its good rival for Snapdragon 710

Around two weeks ago, Taiwan-based MediaTek had announced the Helio P90 smartphone. Rumors have it that the new SoC from MediaTek will be present under the hood of the OPPO R19 smartphone that is expected to go official in the first quarter of 2019. The AnTuTu benchmarks of the Helio P90 chipset has surfaced today. It reveals that it is powerful enough to rival with the Snapdragon 710 chipset.

The AnTuTu benchmarks shown below seems to belong to a testing unit. It features a display that supports full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The handset includes 6 GB of RAM and it is equipped with an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. The testing device has acquired an average benchmarking score of 162,861 on AnTuTu. The Snapdragon 710 that powers the OPPO R17 Pro offers slightly better performance than the Helio P90.

The 12nm Helio P90 is an octa-core processor that includes two 2.2 GHz Cortex A75 CPU cores and six 2.0 GHz Cortex A55 cores. Smartphones powered with Helio P90 can feature up to 8 GB of RAM. The chipset includes PowerVR GM 9446 graphics. It supports full HD+ resolution of up 1080 x 2520 pixels, up to 48-megapixel single camera sensor or 24-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual cameras. The enhanced AI on Helio P90 promises four times better AI capabilities than Helio P60 and Helio P70 chipsets. Reports from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) today, has shown how impressive iPhones have sold compared to other phones. Since Apple doesn’t announce the number of units sold, it’s however not easy to determine how iPhones thrive in terms of its sales in the market, more especially when there are reports a slump in its sales. However, the report by CIRP claims 32% of the iPhones sold in the first month of this year were iPhone XR models, while iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max jointly made up 35% of Apple’s market share.

Apple implemented a different strategy for the release of its smartphone this year by launching two expensive iPhones, then in a space of a month launching its newest entry-level tier, giving an opportunity for iOS users to upgrade. According to similar reports, 82% of users were said to have upgraded from older iOS devices, whereas 16% switch from Android. Though the launch in 2017 was a bit different in figures compared to 2018 which 86% upgraded from iOS while 21% upgraded from Android.

From estimation, there was a drop of a few percentages(4%) based on the percentage of iPhones sales in 2017 and 2018 respectively, which was reported to have been 69% as at 2017 and 65% this year. Noteworthy, these figures are estimated values gotten from the statistical evaluation of the 165 participants analyzed after the launch of the iPhone XR within a month of its release date which is October 26 this year.

Last year, Huawei had launched the Huawei Y7 (2018) smartphone. Popular tipster Roland Quandt has shared vital information on the specifications of the Huawei Y7 (2019) smartphone. The tipster has also shared the renders of the successor of the Y7 (2018) handset.

Quandt has revealed Huawei Y7 (2019) will be featuring a 6.2-inch display with a waterdrop notch. The handset will be offering an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and HD+ resolution of 1520 x 720 pixel. The notch houses an earpiece and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. It indicates that the low budget smartphone will be able to capture impressive selfie shots. Motorola Moto G7 series launch tipped in Brazil ahead of MWC 2019

Rumors surrounding the upcoming Motorola Moto G7 series claim it will be announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. Last year, the company had unveiled the Moto G6 series in Brazil. An unnamed source has revealed to Brazilian publication that Motorola will be debuting the Moto G7 series at Brazil before the MWC 2019.

The publication has no information on the exact launch date of the Moto G7 series. However, it is quite confident that it will be made official ahead of MWC 2019. It will be a global launch event, claims the publication. This year, the Moto G6 series was introduced in the second quarter of the year. However, if the new reports are true, Lenovo’s sub-brand could be working on launching the G7 series earlier in Q1 2019. Past reports have revealed that the Moto G7 series will include four handsets such as Moto G7, Moto G7 Plus, Moto G7 Power and Moto G7 Play.
