China unveils world’s first 10G broadband network while the world still talks 5G

China has just taken the internet to a whole new level with the world’s first 10G broadband network, launched in the high-tech city of Xiong’an. Powered by Huawei and China Unicom, this 50G-PON tech promises blazing-fast speeds that could redefine connectivity, from instant movie downloads to lag-free cloud gaming.

Huawei

China’s bold step toward building the smart cities of tomorrow

Xiong’an, a futuristic metropolis 70 miles southwest of Beijing, is the country’s testing ground for cutting-edge tech, dreamed up in 2017 under President Xi Jinping’s vision. Now, it’s home to a 10G broadband network that hits download speeds of 10 gigabytes per second, per MSN. That means you could download a huge movie file in seconds or stream 8K video without a hiccup.

This isn’t just about seamless playback on Netflix. The 10G network unlocks wild possibilities like self-driving car systems, immersive VR/AR spaces, and smart city tech that ties everything together. It’s also a boost for AI, powering large language models with seamless data flow. Xiong’an’s “15-minute life circle” design ensures residents have shops and leisure within a short walk, making it a perfect fit for this high-speed rollout.

But it’s not all rosy. Bloomberg reports Xiong’an’s $100 billion build hasn’t drawn the crowds, with some calling it a ghost town lacking the buzz of private sector investment. Still, China is pushing hard to lead the tech race, and this 10G network—set to expand nationwide—shows they’re not messing around. While the world is still catching up with 5G, Xiong’an is giving us a peek at a hyper-connected future. Whether it’ll live up to its utopian hype or stay a quiet tech showcase, only time will tell.

Lenovo has shared some key details about its upcoming Legion Y700 (4th Gen) tablet on Weibo. The brand also revealed that the new model will directly rival the iPad mini, highlighting several upgrades aimed at gamers and media enthusiasts alike.

The upcoming Legion Y700 (Gen 4) is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip —currently one of the most powerful options for Android devices. This hints at flagship-level performance, particularly for graphics-intensive games. Lenovo has gone with an 8.8-inch panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which offers more screen real estate than the iPad mini, making it well-suited for gaming and video playback.

To keep thermals under control during heavy usage, the tablet features a 12,000mm² copper VC cooling system. The build remains compact and comfortable for handheld use, with a width of 128.5mm and a height of 207.58mm. While it weighs 340 grams —slightly heavier than Apple’s counterpart—it still stays within the light tablet category.

In terms of memory and storage, users can pick between 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB internal storage. There’s also a microSD (TF card) slot for expanding storage—an uncommon inclusion in today’s tablets. Powering the device is a 7,600mAh battery, which supports 68W fast charging for quick top-ups. Lenovo has even retained features like dual X-axis linear motors to enhance haptic feedback during gameplay.

With such a spec sheet, the new Legion Y700 seems purpose-built for users seeking power and portability—without being locked into a single platform like iOS. While the brand has confirmed several details about the device, it has not revealed its launch date.

These include the addition of keyframes to give editors granular control over motion and effects and AI-powered tools for quickly changing a video’s aesthetic. Collaboration features are also in the works, allowing creators to share drafts with others for review. More customization options, such as new fonts, text animations, transitions, filters, and royalty-free music, are also expected to roll out in future updates.

Edits is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to support creative professionals, and the company has emphasized that future development will be shaped heavily by user feedback.

OnePlus 13T display details confirmed

These two innovations were first seen in the OnePlus 13 and ensure that the 13T meets DisplayMate A++ standards.

The OnePlus 13T also includes eye-friendly features such as Mingmu Eye Protection 2.0 and full-brightness DC dimming for reduced eye strain during extended use. Stable One UI 7 update now rolling out to Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 in South Korea

Samsung is rolling out its stable One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in its home country. This drop comes alongside updates for the Galaxy S23 series, S24 FE, and Tab S9 and S10 lineups. While it’s a big win for foldable fans, the global rollout is still a bit of a question mark.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Stable One UI 7 update for the 2023 flagships is currently exclusive to South Korea

Samsung is making rapid progress in Korea, pushing One UI 7 to a slew of devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. Owners in the country can install the update by heading to Settings > Software Update and tapping Download and Install. It’s a hefty package, bringing a fresh design with new app icons, smoother animations, and enhanced Galaxy AI features like smarter lock screen widgets and improved Modes and Routines.

Samsung’s One UI 7 rollout has been somewhat messy so far. The company only recently released the update for its 2024 flagships — and even that is limited to its home country. According to Samsung’s official timelines for Germany and India, the stable One UI 7 update will roll out to its 2024 flagships — the Galaxy S24 lineup, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 — in April. Other eligible devices are scheduled to receive the update in May.

The global Tab S9 series, for instance, is also expected to receive the update in May — but it arrived early in Korea. It’ll be interesting to see when global users, especially those with mid-range and budget devices, will finally get to experience the improvements.

For now, folks outside Korea will need to sit tight and keep checking for updates. With One UI 7, the Fold 5 and Flip 5 feel snappier and more polished. We’ll keep you posted as Samsung expands the rollout, so stay tuned for when it hits your region.

Google reportedly pays Samsung big to install Gemini AI on Galaxy devices

Google is shelling out an “enormous sum” to Samsung to pre-install its Gemini AI app on Galaxy devices, a move revealed during an antitrust trial with the US Department of Justice. This deal, echoing Google’s past payments to secure its search engine’s dominance, has raised eyebrows as it’s been flagged as illegal twice before. With Gemini front and center on Samsung’s latest flagship phones, the DOJ is worried Google is tightening its grip on both search and AI markets.

Google is making hefty monthly payments to Samsung to preload Gemini AI on Galaxy phones

Google is no stranger to paying for prime real estate on devices. It’s been forking over billions to Apple devices for default search status and previously paid Samsung $8 billion from 2020 to 2023 to pre-install Google Search and the Play Store, per the 2023 Epic Games lawsuit.

Now, court documents from the ongoing DOJ trial show that Google is making hefty monthly payments to Samsung to ensure that Gemini AI is preloaded on Galaxy phones, starting with the Galaxy S24 series in January 2025. The deal, which could extend to 2028, includes a cut of Gemini’s ad revenue for Samsung, though exact figures stay under wraps. DOJ lawyer David Dahlquist called it an “enormous sum.”

This arrangement powers Galaxy AI features, some exclusive to Samsung, giving Google a massive platform to refine its AI while Samsung cashes in. But the DOJ argues it’s a rerun of Google’s monopolistic playbook, using its search dominance to boost AI and funnel users back to Google. With rulings already deeming such payments illegal, the trial’s outcome could force Google to ditch these deals or even sell Chrome, shaking up its cozy Samsung partnership and the broader AI race.

OPPO Find X8s vs X8s+ vs Find X8 Ultra: How are they different, and which should you choose?

OPPO Find X8s, X8s+, and Find X8 Ultra represent the latest advancements in the brand’s smartphone lineup, offering a variety of features tailored to different user needs. This comparison delves into how these models differ in terms of design, performance, camera capabilities, and battery life. Whether you’re looking for a more affordable flagship with solid features or the cutting-edge technology of the Ultra variant, understanding these differences is crucial for choosing the right model to suit your preferences and requirements.

1. Display Quality

OPPO
OPPO X8 Ultra

The Find X8s and X8s+ use a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (2800 x 1260), a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4500 nits peak brightness. These displays are excellent for everyday use and media consumption. The Find X8 Ultra, however, pushes the limits further with a larger 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED, 3168 x 1440 resolution, and a superior 5100 nits peak brightness.

Verdict: The X8 Ultra’s display is the best in this lineup, offering higher resolution and peak brightness, making it ideal for power users and outdoor visibility, especially for HDR content.

2. Performance and Processor

OPPO
OPPO Find X8s

The Find X8s and X8s+ are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chip, delivering strong flagship-level performance with efficient power management. The Find X8 Ultra upgrades to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which offers not only improved GPU performance but also better AI and camera processing. This makes the Ultra a better fit for gaming, AI tasks, and sustained multitasking.

Verdict: The Find X8 Ultra edges out both the X8s and X8s+ for raw performance and future-proof processing, especially for users who want the best gaming and camera AI features.

3. Camera Capabilities

OPPO
OPPO Find X8 Ultra

The Find X8s and X8s+ both use a similar setup with a 50MP primary sensor, 50MP ultra-wide, and 50MP telephoto, all using OPPO’s advanced image processing for detailed and balanced photos. However, the Find X8 Ultra raises the bar with a 1-inch 50MP Sony LYT-900 main sensor, paired with advanced periscope zoom and professional Hasselblad color calibration.

Verdict: The Find X8 Ultra is the clear winner for photography, especially in low-light scenarios and professional-grade photography, thanks to its large sensor and Hasselblad partnership.

4. Battery and Charging

OPPO
OPPO Find X8s+

The Find X8s and X8s+ are equipped with a 5000mAh battery, with the X8s offering 100W fast charging, and the X8s+ adding 50W wireless charging on top. The Find X8 Ultra also sports a 5000mAh battery but offers even more versatility with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, along with better battery health optimization.

Verdict: The Ultra matches the X8s+ on wireless capability and outshines the base X8s, but the real advantage is in longevity and heat management, giving it a slight edge.

5. Software and Features

All three models ship with ColorOS 14 based on Android 14, delivering identical core features. However, the Find X8 Ultra benefits from exclusive camera features, advanced AI scene detection, and better software tuning for its Snapdragon chip. These extras create a more refined user experience for photography and media.

Verdict: While the software is largely the same, the X8 Ultra’s exclusive camera software and AI enhancements tilt the scale in its favor.

6. Price and Value

OPPO
OPPO Find X8s

The OPPO Find X8s is positioned as the most affordable option at about €550, offering flagship specs for a more mainstream price. The X8s+ justifies its slight premium at around €600 with added wireless charging and a slightly more refined feature set. The Find X8 Ultra, as expected, sits at the top of the range with a price tag of around €700, but it brings truly high-end hardware, especially for photography and performance.

Verdict: If budget is key, the X8s is a solid pick. If you want a well-rounded phone with premium charging and camera versatility, the X8s+ is balanced. For ultimate luxury and cutting-edge specs, the X8 Ultra is the clear winner.

7. Conclusion

OPPO
OPPO Find X8 Ultra

OPPO Find X8s, X8s+, and Find X8 Ultra target different levels of flagship buyers. The X8s and X8s+ both use the Dimensity 9300 chip, offering strong everyday performance, while the X8 Ultra steps up with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3,  better for gaming and AI tasks. On display, the X8s and X8s+ feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED with 4500 nits peak brightness, but the X8 Ultra outshines them with a 6.82-inch 1440p AMOLED reaching 5100 nits, ideal for media and outdoor use.

Camera hardware is another big difference. The X8 Ultra’s additional 50MP Sony LYT-900 sensor delivers superior detail and low-light shots, while the X8s and X8s+ stick to three 50MP sensors. Both the X8s and X8s+ share a 100W wired charging system and 5000mAh battery, but the X8s+ gains an extra feature, 50W wireless charging, which the standard X8s lack.

Verdict: The Find X8s and X8s+ are solid for users who want flagship features at a reasonable price, with the X8s+ standing out slightly due to wireless charging. But for those seeking the highest camera quality, display brightness, and raw power, the Find X8 Ultra is the superior choice.

Sony’s new 50-150mm F2 GM lens is a bright, versatile zoom for Alpha shooters

Sony has announced the FE 50-150mm f/2 G Master, a new full-frame E-mount lens in its flagship trinity series. It is the first telephoto zoom lens to offer a maximum focal length of 150mm alongside a constant f/2 aperture.

The FE 50-150mm f/2 GM joins Sony’s G Master lineup, and like the rest of that series, it’s built to offer both high resolution and smooth bokeh.

Sony FE 50‑150mm f_2 GM Specs and Features

Sony FE 50-150mm f/2 G Master Specifications

According to Sony, the lens covers several classic focal lengths used by professionals, such as 50mm, 85mm, and 135mm, in a single package. The aperture (f/2) remains consistent across the zoom range, so it’s suitable for users who frequently switch between wide, medium, and short telephoto shots without needing to swap lenses.

Internally, Sony has used a combination of advanced optics, including two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two Super ED (extra-low dispersion) elements, and three ED elements. These are intended to control aberrations and improve sharpness and contrast across the frame.

There’s also a floating focus system that helps the lens maintain a 0.4m minimum focusing distance at the wide end, with up to 0.20x magnification.

Sony-FE-50-150mm-F2-GM-Features

The lens also benefits from Sony’s Nano AR Coating II, which helps reduce flare and ghosting in backlit conditions. A circular 11-blade aperture is designed to enhance the overall bokeh quality.

Physically, the lens measures around 200mm in length and weighs about 1,340 grams. Thanks to its internal zoom design, the lens doesn’t extend when zoomed in, which helps keep weight balance consistent.

Autofocus is handled by four XD linear motors and is supported by Sony’s AF algorithms. Sony says the lens is capable of maintaining fast and accurate autofocus even when shooting at 120fps with the Alpha 9 III. It also supports focus breathing compensation and includes Linear Response MF for more intuitive manual focus control during video recording.

The FE 50-150mm f/2 GM is dust and moisture-resistant, with a fluorine coating on the front element to help keep it clean.

Price and Availability

The Sony FE 50‑150mm f/2 GM will go on sale in June 2025 for £3,800 / €4,400. That puts it firmly in the high-end category, but given its specs and build quality, it’s clearly aimed at working professionals who need the flexibility of a zoom with the performance of primes.

Not long after the launch event, our team in China managed to get their hands on a unit to shoot a quick hands-on video (you can watch that below). But if you’re just here for the first impressions, here’s what stood out.

Vivo X200 Ultra first impressions

Right off the bat, the X200 Ultra makes its intentions clear. This is a camera phone, and it doesn’t try to hide it.

Its camera bump alone measures 15.9mm, which is bigger than that of any competing flagships, including Oppo Find X8 Ultra (14.2mm) or the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (15.6mm). Still, the body itself is relatively slim at just 8.69mm (thinner than both competitors), which helps to balance the overall feel.

Vivo X200 Ultra camera bump thickness

The phone also feels surprisingly well-balanced in hand, partly thanks to a curved display on the front. It adds a bit of elegance while also improving grip, so it doesn’t come across as unwieldy.

To make using the camera even easier, the X200 Ultra includes a dedicated camera control button. And its implementation might actually be better than on the latest iPhones. Your finger rests naturally on it, so you’re likely to make full use of it.

Vivo X200 Ultra camera control button

As for the cameras, you get a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide (both using Sony’s LYT-818 sensor), and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens from Samsung (HP9, 85mm). The telephoto module includes Zeiss APO optics, 3.7x optical zoom, OIS, and Zeiss’s T* coating to help with lens flares and reflections.

If that’s not enough for you, Vivo also has a detachable Zeiss lens in the X200 Ultra’s Photography Kit, which extends the focal length up to 200mm. We haven’t had time to fully test that out yet, but we’ll save the deep dive and sample shots for a dedicated camera breakdown later.

The X200 Ultra is also the first Vivo phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Elite Edition chip. On top of that, you get a flagship-grade AMOLED display, a 6000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 90W wired charging, and 40W wireless charging..

We’ll be back soon with a full review once we’ve spent more time with the device. Stay tuned.

Are we getting more GTA 6 info this summer? New trailer could drop in May

Even without being released, the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has achieved an unfortunate record. Typically, near the one year mark, we get screenshots or more details of a new Rockstar title. However, it has been over 500 days since the first ever GTA 6 trailer dropped, and we still don’t have a second trailer or any screenshots. But there’s a chance that gamers will be getting more info soon.

New GTA 6 Reveal Coming Next Month?

So far, all we know is that GTA 6 is set to release sometime in Fall 2025 and will debut on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, held its financial earnings back in February, and the next earnings call is set for 15th May 2025. This has raised expectations that the studio might share more details of GTA 6 on the same date.

There are also rumors of the second GTA 6 trailer dropping during this time, or at least some screenshots being shared. On X (formerly Twitter), people have started speculating that more news regarding the most hyped GTA title would only arrive after the May 15 earnings call. @GameRollGTA stated that Borderlands 4 is getting its own State of Play soon, with Mafia also getting a presentation of its own on May 8.

In other words, we can expect a similar treatment for GTA 6. Last week, there was a report that attempted to estimate the launch timeline of the next Grand Theft Auto game. With Mafia: The Old Country possibly debuting on 8th August, while Borderlands 4 and NBA 2K26 are may get a September release timeline. This leaves only October and November since August and September are crowded and might cannibalize on sales across different titles. So November 2025 might be the month when GTA 6 is announced.

No! Samsung didn’t delay One UI 7 for the S23 series — stable update is already rolling out

When Samsung halted the One UI 7 update for its 2024 flagships, speculation grew about a possible delay for the 2023 flagships — namely, the S23 series and the 5th-generation foldables. But as it turns out, Samsung managed to fix the bug without causing any further delay for the older models.

A global rollout is expected in a few days

The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are now getting the stable One UI 7.0 update in South Korea, soon after the resumed rollouts for the S24, Z Flip 6, and Z Fold 6. A broader rollout is anticipated over the next few days.

Sporting firmware version S91xNKSU6DYD9, the update is a hefty 5GB for non-beta users and about 1GB for those in the beta program, packing the April 2025 security patch. South Korean S23 users can check for it by heading to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.

This update is actually a big deal for the S23 series, wrapping up the One UI 7.0 Beta Program and bringing a fresh, modern look. The package includes revamped app icons, slicker widgets for home and lock screens, and smoother animations that make swiping feel snappy. The battery icon has also got a new look, and there’s a cool charging animation to boot. Galaxy AI features are leveled up too, though specifics are still trickling in.

One thing is for sure: Samsung is wasting no time, at least when we’re talking about the flagships. If you’re outside South Korea and using one of Samsung’s 2023 flagships, just keep an eye on your notifications. This update is set to make the S23 series feel better than ever, with a polished design and AI smarts to match.
