iPhone SE 4 rumored with Dynamic Island once again

Apple has long been rumored to be working on a budget iPhone. In a recent report, a key design element of the iPhone SE 4 was revealed. The company is once again expected to offer a Dynamic Island notch on the 2025 iPhone SE model. So here’s what we know.

Apple iPhone SE 4 leaked with Dynamic Island

The Cupertino based giant’s affordable iPhone model already had its design, specs, and much more revealed. Now, known tipster Evan Blass shared code references for several upcoming Apple devices like the iPhone SE 4. Alongside these details, the evleaks also shared images of the upcoming iPhone SE model that showcases the device with a Dynamic Island. This would mark a major redesign for the iPhone SE, bringing it more in line with the flagship iPhone series.

Alleged iPhone SE 4 design

So we can also expect the Home Button to finally be removed in favour of an edge-to-edge display and Face ID. One of the biggest advantages of the iPhone SE 4 is the Apple Intelligence tools Genmoji, Writing Tools, Image Playground, and even ChatGPT integration. However, there are still doubts about the brand shipping a sub-$500 iPhone with Dynamic Island. So this report does add more weight to previous render leaks.

Apple might skip the iPhone SE name entirely and call this model the iPhone 16E, but this is still unclear. In the leak from Evan Blass, the device is referred to as the iPhone SE 4 in the source code. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed rumor, so take this report with a pinch of salt.

TCL launches K7G Plus smart door lock with 3D facial recognition & 5-6 month battery life

TCL has launched its latest smart door lock, the K7G Plus, in China. It is now listed on JD.com with a price tag of 1,699 yuan ($232). This release follows last year’s launch of the K9G Plus, which featured 3D face unlock, AI capabilities, and a 7-month battery life. Let’s check out the key specs of this new smart lock.

TCL K7G Plus

TCL K7G Plus Specifications

The K7G Plus sports a premium design crafted with aluminum alloy and an IML panel, featuring a sleek bronze finish. It features advanced 3D facial recognition technology powered by TCL’s 6th-generation 3D structured light and AI algorithms.

The lock ensures secure and rapid unlocking in under one second, with improved accuracy and resistance to spoofing methods like photos or videos. With a wide field of view and a design optimized for heights ranging from 0.35 to 2 meters, it can recognize family members effortlessly, from children to adults.

The K7G Plus equips a 4.5-inch HD IPS screen indoors, allowing users to monitor the entrance in real time. Its 24-hour AI surveillance system includes radar-based human detection and a 7-day free rolling cloud storage for video capture. It also integrates a high-performance infrared night vision system to provide clear visuals even in complete darkness.

TCL K7G Plus

This smart lock supports multiple unlocking methods, including 3D facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, password, NFC card, and remote unlocking via the TCL mobile app. It also offers a temporary password feature for guests and service personnel. The fingerprint scanner uses advanced dual-calibration algorithms, making it especially reliable for seniors and children.

In terms of security, the lock comes with a C-grade anti-theft lock cylinder, virtual password input to prevent prying eyes, and an array of alarm notifications, including tampering, low battery, and door ajar alerts. It even has a child-lock mode and auto-lock functionality to ensure safety and peace of mind.

Windows Gaming on a Xiaomi Tablet? Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 Runs Steam with HyperOS WinPlay

Windows gaming might soon be arriving on Xiaomi tablets. The company has started taking in applicants who own the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 and have them test Windows games via HyperOS’ WinPlay engine. But this isn’t an online game streaming platform and lets you play the games without any internet connection. So here’s what we know so far.

Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 Can Run Steam

There are plenty of services or devices that offer cloud gaming streaming access to users’ mobile devices. However, the Chinese tech giant is taking things a step further. It has announced that it is recruiting Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 users from the Xiaomi Community to test the WinPlay engine in HyperOS that lets you play Windows games without an internet connection.

Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro

WinPlay basically allows the tablet to run Windows software directly. Xiaomi claims that WinPlay’s GPU performance loss is only 2.9 percent, which is quite impressive. But that’s not all, the company has even managed to get Steam running on this tablet that brings access to Valve’s vast gaming library. Keep in mind that simply installing Steam doesn’t let you play all of the games as not every title is supported yet. But this isn’t surprising considering how it isn’t a Windows laptop. To recall, even the Valve’s very own SteamOS has issues when running games from its own platform.

Known tipster Digital Chat Station (Via Fonearena) even shared an image of the tablet running Windows games locally based on the WinPlay engine with support for Xbox controllers. The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 was even seen running Tomb Raider. It remains to be seen how Xiaomi will expand this tech and whether these will be included on its smartphones as well. So stick around for more updates.

Samsung confirms when will it rollout One UI 7 for Galaxy S series phones

The stage is set for Samsung to launch the anticipated Galaxy S25 series phone. The event will unveil not only the Galaxy S25 series but also new Galaxy AI features and the long-awaited One UI 7 update.

Samsung has been testing its next major software update, One UI 7, for over a month and has now officially announced a timeline for when compatible Galaxy smartphones can expect to receive it.

One UI 7 launch timeframe

In a press release from Samsung Korea, the company announced that the One UI 7 beta program is its most successful beta program to date, and the first beta update closed twice as fast as the One UI 6 beta.

More importantly, Samsung confirmed that all compatible Galaxy S series devices should receive the One UI 7 update by the end of the first quarter of 2025. So we can expect a rollout completion by March 31, 2025. Notably, the press release omits the latest flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

It’s important to consider that this timeline might be specific to the Korean market. However, Samsung typically follows a similar rollout schedule for global market too, so users worldwide can expect the update around the same time.

An official confirmation of the exact release timeline for all Galaxy smartphones is likely to come during tomorrow’s Galaxy Unpacked event.

What’s coming in One UI 7

The beta updates have offered us enough sneak peek into what you can expect with One UI 7. It will introduce a new feature called Now Bar which is a pill-shaped dynamically updating bar on the lock screen similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island. You can use it to control music playback, timers, and more.

The update also includes a redesigned Quick Settings panel and new app icons. Additionally, the OS includes various subtle UI tweaks throughout the system, including an updated camera app interface and, for the first time, a vertical app drawer.

Android 16 Beta might be rolling out this week

Google might be planning on kicking off the Android 16 beta program soon. The developer preview already went live nearly two months ago, and now, it appears that a Google employee may have revealed the release date for the Android 16 beta builds as well.

Android 16 Beta

The Search Engine giant officially confirmed the Android 16 beta will release the Android 16 beta in January 2025. This would be the first early build, with latter iterations planned to drop in February and March. Unfortunately, Google did not reveal the exact date for the Android 16 beta rollout. However, a comment from a Google employee was recently spotted by Android Authority on the Android Gerrit that may have confirmed the release date.

Android 16 Baklava
Android 16 Baklava

It seems like Google aims to kick off the Android 16 beta 3 on 12th March 2025. On the other hand, the first beta build did not get a set date of release. However, the employee did mention January 22 and February 19th, which could imply the first and second beta build of the Android 16. Since the beta 3 build is arriving in March, we can expect Google to launch the final build of Android 16 sometime in the second quarter of 2025.

So the stable update would likely arrive on Pixel devices around April or May, which is in line with our previous report. To recall, Android 16 is expected to offer a split screen mode inspired by the OxygenOS on OnePlus Open. This means you might be able to split three apps at the same time. There may also be support for improved WiFi security, Adaptive Refresh Rate (ARR), and much more.

Snapdragon 8s Elite: Everything we know about it

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Elite

There’s an “s” edition of Snapdragon 8 Elite in the pipeline, as per reports. If you take a look at the Snapdragon SoCs lineup, you’ll realize where it will be positioned. The Snapdragon 8s Elite will be a toned-down version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip while offering high performance at a more affordable price point.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, unveiled last year, sits below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but got a lot of attention. So, we’re going to see another “s” edition of the Snapdragon flagship — Snapdragon 8s Elite.

While the brand is entirely silent on this, recent leaks have revealed many crucial details about the chip, including CPU, GPU, and benchmark scores. So, here’s a compilation of everything we know about the Snapdragon 8s Elite.

Snapdragon 8s Elite: Everything we know so far

According to a prolific leakster Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8s Elite is able to achieve performance that sits between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3.

Recently, an unknown Vivo phone with the model number V2453A appeared on Geekbench. This is believed to be the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, which, as per Geekbench details, likely runs the Snapdragon 8s Elite. The chip has one core at 3.21GHz, three cores at 3.01GHz, two at 2.80GHz, and two at 2.02GHz.

What’s more interesting is the GPU, Adreno 825, according to the benchmark. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has an Adreno 750, and the 8 Elite has an Adreno 830. The Adreno 825 GPU in the Geekbench listing above is from the same generation as the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which further led to the belief that the Vivo V2453A device runs the Snapdragon 8s Elite.

The Vivo device on Geekbench 6 has received 1,967 single-core scores and 5,827 multi-core scores. On AuTuTu, it gets over 2 million AnTuTu points, as per Digital Chat Station.

Snapdragon 8s Elite benchmark scores

AnTuTu2 million+

What’s more? The Snapdragon 8s Elite chip is codenamed ‘SM8735’ and is leaked to have a CPU architecture consisting of Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 cores. This means it won’t have Oryon cores that were developed in-house by Qualcomm but ARM-designed cores that were used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 generation.

Snapdragon 8s Elite release date

There’s no official word yet on the Snapdragon 8s Elite release date. However, it could be announced around the same time as last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. This means the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 could be announced in March 2025, and phones with this chip might be released in April. iQOO Z10 Turbo could be one of them.

Many Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, Redmi, Oppo, iQOO, and Honor, reportedly have Snapdragon 8s Elite-powered phones in the pipeline. There may also be some ultra-thin phones on the way with this chip.

Qualcomm has also silently released a 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite, which you can read about here.

You won’t believe how much GTA 6 might cost

Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), arguably one of the most highly anticipated video games of the decade, could reportedly launch with a $100 price tag for its standard edition. This claim, stemming from video game analyst Matthew Ball’s “State of Video Gaming in 2025” report, has ignited heated discussions among gamers and industry experts alike.

Is $100 the New Normal for AAA Games?

Ball suggests that Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA 6, may use the game’s overwhelming market appeal to push a new pricing standard for AAA titles. He notes that the gaming industry is “hoping” for this shift, as it could encourage other publishers to adopt higher price points to counter rising development costs and inflation.

Historically, video game prices have remained relatively stable, despite skyrocketing budgets. In 2020, Take-Two was among the first publishers to raise the price of its games from $60 to $70 during the transition to next-generation consoles. A potential jump to $100, while controversial, could set a precedent for future releases.

Critics argue that this increase overlooks the broader economic context. While video game prices adjusted for inflation may appear reasonable, stagnant wages and the rising cost of living paint a more complicated picture. Gamers have also pointed out the prevalence of post-launch monetization strategies, such as downloadable content (DLC) and season passes, which were not prevalent two decades ago.

Despite backlash from fans, industry insiders believe GTA 6’s pricing strategy could influence the market. With development costs at an all-time high and growing consumer expectations for content-rich games, publishers may see this as a necessary move.

As anticipation for GTA 6 builds, with a rumored release date of late 2025, the pricing debate underscores a larger conversation about the sustainability of the gaming industry’s current model. Whether this $100 price point becomes the norm remains to be seen.

iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro may offer 7,500mAh battery, 90W charging combo

iQOO is reportedly planning to launch the Z10-series of smartphones in Q2 this year in China. The lineup is expected to feature the Z10x, Z10, Z10 Turbo, and Z10 Turbo. Reliable leaker Digital Chat Station has already leaked several details about the Turbo variants. Today, the leaker released a Weibo post to share the key specifications of a high-performance iQOO phone.

iQOO Z10 Turbo series battery, charging details leak

DCS leak on Z10 series posted in December 2024

The tipster has previously claimed that the high-performance Z10 series phones with Dimensity and Snapdragon chipsets will pack a battery of around 7,000mAh capacity. Recent reports have revealed that the Z10 Turbo will feature the Dimensity 8400 chip, whereas the Z10 Turbo Pro will have the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite chip.

Shown above is DCS’ Weibo post that he released earlier this month, which states that an iQOO phone is being tested with a 7,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging. In the latest Weibo post, iQOO also has a 7,500mAh battery and 90W charging combination for its high-performance phones, which will come equipped with a flat OLED panel.

The current Z9 Turbo models feature batteries ranging from 6,000mAh to 6,400mAh. With smartphone brands increasingly adopting silicon batteries with higher energy density, the Z10 Turbo models will likely surpass the 7,000mAh battery capacity mark. Therefore, the above-mentioned leaks by DCS reportedly pertain to the Z10 Turbo series.

Rival brand Redmi is rumored to launch the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro with a 7,500mAh battery and Snapdragon 8s Elite chip onboard in April this year. Therefore, the Z10 Turbo Pro, which is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8s Elite chip, may arrive with 7,500mAh + 90W combination to rival the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro.

The Z10 Turbo, on the other hand, may house a 7,000mAh with 120W or 90W charging support. This phone is expected to feature the Dimensity 8400 SoC. It is expected to rival other D8400 phones like the Redmi Turbo 4 and the upcoming Realme Neo 7 SE.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim Leaked CAD Renders

Unfortunately, that is all the information that was revealed regarding this new device. But based on what we know so far, the Galaxy S25 Slim may pack Qualcomm’s 7-core version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Initial rumors had even hinted at an exclusive South Korean release as well. While the official launch date is still unclear, the rumors hint at a May 2025 announcement.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim had its design revealed via leaked CAD renders that showcased its thin profile. The recently unveiled OnePlus 13 sports a revised design as compared to its predecessor. However, the design is not completely different from the OnePlus 11 series, which debuted in 2023. In a recent Weibo post, OnePlus industrial designer Lao Haoran revealed that the 2025 OnePlus phones will arrive with a new design. Additionally, tipster Digital Chat Station has mentioned details about the upcoming OnePlus devices that will sport a renewed design.

Upcoming OnePlus phones confirmed to arrive with a renewed design

OnePlus industrial designer Lao Haoran confirms new design for 2025 OnePlus phones

According to Haoran, OnePlus is planning a significant design overhaul for its 2025 phone lineup. This includes new design languages for both the main OnePlus line and performance-focused phones. OnePlus is also developing new IoT products and accessories with fresh designs. Expect to see devices with unique textures and finishes, thanks to new materials and manufacturing processes. To showcase these design innovations, OnePlus will be launching a dedicated design website.

OnePlus Ace 5s, OnePlus 13 Mini series

OnePLus Ace 5s series, OnePlus 13 Mini to sport new design

As can be seen above, DCS has mentioned that upcoming 2025 OnePlus models will feature a redesigned look, with the Dimensity 9400/Dimensity 9350 and Snapdragon 8 Elite small-screen phones undergoing changes. He added that the Dimensity 9350 model will feature around a 7,000mAh battery and a flat OLED LTPS panel with 1.5K resolution support. For those who don’t know, the D9350 is believed to be an overclocked version of the existing Dimensity 9300+.

The D9350-powered OnePlus phone could be an Ace 5-series offering. It is unclear whether the tipster is speculating if there will be a dedicated D9400 variant or whether he is speculating whether the device will have the D9350 or D9400 chip. While these devices are said to have Ace-branding, there is no clarity about their exact monikers. Some reports have speculated that the D9350 variant could be called the Ace 5V. At the same time, there have been rumours about an Ace 5s series.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite small-screen phone mentioned in the leak refers to the OnePlus 13 Mini. Expected to launch in Q2 2025, the device is expected to arrive with a flat LTPO OLED panel that offers a 1.5K resolution, an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner, a 50-megapixel (Sony IMX906) + 8-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 50-megapixel (3x periscope) camera setup, and wireless charging support. The new leak also states that it will pack a large battery, but unfortunately, the exact size is not known.

Pixel 10a may skip the TSMC made Tensor G5 for Tensor G4, claims new leak

Google‘s mid-range Pixel A-series has been great for those seeking a flagship-level camera and a good build quality without breaking the bank. While Google is yet to announce the Pixel 9a, the Pixel 10 series has already entered the conversation and the latest news is about the Pixel 10a, or more specifically, its chipset.

Google Pixel 9a

People have been waiting a long for Google to switch to TSMC from Samsung Foundry for the manufacturing of its Tensor chips, which will make them more power efficient, reduce heat generation, and improve their overall capabilities. Google is indeed rumored to partner with TSMC for the Tensor G5, which will power the Pixel 10 series, except for the Pixel 10a.

If true, Pixel 10a will be the first Pixel device ever with a year-old Tensor chip. This hurts us more as we have been waiting for a TSMC-fabbed Tensor since the Tensor G1 hit the market.

Pixel 10a could be the first to boast a generation old Tensor

According to AndroidAuthority, Google has not yet made a final decision on whether it will use the ‘custom’ version of the Tensor G5, or the older Tensor G4, manufactured by Samsung Foundry, in the Pixel 10a. While Google has made optimizations with its Tensor chips before putting them in the more affordable devices (possibly to balance performance and heating) using Tensor G4 is expected to increase the gap by a significant margin.

This might greatly restrict the feature set of the Pixel 10a. Many of the features expected to appear in the Pixel 10 series, including several AI features and camera upgrades, are apparently linked to the Tensor G5. With the Tensor G4, the Pixel 10a won’t be able to run those cutting-edge on-device AI models designed for the Tensor G5.

And here’s the fun part. If Google decides to stick to Tensor G4, it will mean using the chip for three years straight: the Pixel 9 series in 2024, the Pixel 9a in 2025, and the Pixel 10a in 2026.

Why Tensor G4 in 2026?

The higher cost of the TSMC-manufactured Tensor G5 could be the main reason for this potential cost-cutting move. Google might wait until the Tensor G6, which is said to be more cost-optimized, before bringing a fully custom SoC to its mid-range devices.

Huawei Regains No.1 Spot in China While Apple Struggles with 18.2% Sales Drop

Huawei has reclaimed the top spot in China’s smartphone market, according to a report by Counterpoint. That’s a big milestone for the Chinese tech giant, which had been struggling in recent years due to US sanctions.

The report states that Huawei captured 18.1% of the market share in the fourth quarter of 2024, achieving a significant 15.5% growth. Xiaomi follows closely behind with a 17.2% share and 3.9% growth, while Apple holds 17.1%, experiencing a sharp 18.2% decline in sales. Vivo (16.3%), Honor (13.6%), and Oppo (12.5%) round out the top contenders.

Huawei’s new launches are a success in China

Huawei’s growth can be attributed to the success of its mid-range Nova 13 series and the high-end Mate 70 series, both of which were well-received by Chinese consumers.

It’s important to remember that Huawei’s journey back to the top wasn’t easy. The US ban severely restricted their access to crucial technologies and components.

However, Huawei persevered by developing its chipsets and building a new supply chain with Chinese companies. This dedication to self-reliance seems to have resonated with Chinese consumers, who view domestic chip production as a sign of national strength.

The news comes just after a report revealed that Huawei maintained its dominance with nearly 50% of the share in the Chinese foldable market, followed by Honor at 20.6%.

The bigger picture

Looking at the bigger picture, China’s smartphone market experienced a slight decline of 3.2% year-on-year in Q4 2024. This is the only quarter in 2024 to show a negative trend.

Despite this, the annual figures for 2024 paint a more optimistic picture. The market witnessed a 1.5% year-on-year growth while Vivo led the pack for the entire year at 17.8%, followed closely by Huawei (16.3%) and Xiaomi (15.7%).

Counterpoint predicts that China’s smartphone market will see continued growth in 2025, albeit at a slow pace. It will be interesting to see if Huawei can maintain its lead, or if Xiaomi or Apple will make a comeback.

Genshin Impact developer fined $20M over Loot Boxes and privacy violations

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has imposed a $20 million fine on Cognosphere, the U.S. subsidiary of Chinese gaming developer miHoYo, for deceptive marketing practices and violations of child privacy laws. The penalty is part of a settlement addressing concerns over Genshin Impact’s controversial Loot Box (gacha) mechanics and data collection policies.

What are the key allegations?

The FTC accused Cognosphere of misleading players through predatory gacha mechanics, which involve purchasing randomized in-game rewards using virtual currency bought with real money. Players, including minors, often spent large sums without fully understanding the low odds of obtaining rare items. These mechanics were likened to gambling due to their psychological triggers, such as suspenseful animations and rare prizes.

Additionally, the company violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by collecting personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. Data such as user IDs and device identifiers were shared with third-party advertisers and analytics firms, breaching privacy regulations.

What settlement terms have been proposed?

Under the settlement, Genshin Impact is barred from offering gacha content to players under 16 without parental consent. The company must delete data collected from children under 13 without proper authorization and ensure compliance with COPPA. Transparency measures will also require clear disclosure of gacha pricing, odds, and features to prevent future exploitation.

Implications for the global gaming industry:

This case highlights growing regulatory scrutiny of loot box practices, which have faced criticism globally for targeting vulnerable players, especially children. Countries like Belgium and the Netherlands have banned loot boxes, while others, including the U.S., are pushing for stricter regulations.

The $20 million fine highlights the FTC’s commitment to holding gaming companies accountable for exploitative monetization strategies. Samuel Levine, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, emphasized the importance of protecting children from deceptive gaming practices, calling for more ethical approaches within the industry.

miHoYo acknowledged the settlement and pledged to implement corrective measures, including stricter parental safeguards and compliance with privacy laws. The case signals a shift towards greater accountability in gaming, urging developers to prioritize transparency and consumer protection.

Samsung’s first tri-fold will launch alongside Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in Q3 2025; claims tipster

Samsung finally seems to be ready to launch its first-ever tri-fold smartphone. According to a new report from South Korea, this long-awaited device could launch as soon as Q3 2025. This timeframe fits perfectly with Samsung’s usual release cycle for foldables, which means the tri-fold could launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Samsung tri-fold

If this report holds true, Samsung is officially stepping into the tri-fold game to compete with Huawei’s Mate XT.

According to the report, Samsung’s tri-fold will unfold into a massive 9.9″ to 10″ screen, meaning it will offer a tablet-like functionality that fits in your pocket. What’s cool is that the device is expected to have a unique folding mechanism that protects the display when it’s folded—something Huawei’s Mate XT doesn’t do.

Although, I have to admit I’m a bit concerned about the weight and bulk of Samsung’s tri-fold. It took Samsung several of generations to figure out how to slim the foldable down, which they have partially achieved with the South Korea exclusive Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

There’s no word on the adoption of the Si/C battery tech for the upcoming Galaxy foldables, so it will be difficult to maintain a slim form factor similar to the one from Huawei without sacrificing the battery capacity. For context, the mate XT packs a 5600 mAh Si/C battery and measures 12.8 mm when closed. Check out our review of the Huawei Mate XT here.

A total of four foldable devices are expected from Samsung

Production is set to kick off in Q2 2025, and Samsung is reportedly limiting the first run to just 200,000 units. That’s not a lot, so if you’re already intrigued, you might want to start saving up now.

Samsung isn’t stopping at the tri-fold, though. The Galaxy Z Flip FE (a more budget-friendly option) is joining the lineup. In total, we’re looking at four foldable models in 2025. Read more about the Galaxy Z Flip FE here.
