Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Exynos 2400: Which offers superior performance?

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vs Exynos 2400

While Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was announced two years ago, it’s still one of the best high-end chips for Android smartphones. It powers many phones, including the Galaxy S23 models. The Exynos 2400, on the other hand, is a relatively newer chip, rocking the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus.

Surely, Exynos chips have improved in recent years. But does the latest one — Exynos 2400 — have enough power and efficiency to beat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2? Let’s compare them to see how the two chips stack up against each other.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Exynos 2400: Benchmark results

[Note: We tested the Galaxy S23 (powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2) and Galaxy S24 (powered by Exynos 2400) for benchmark results.]

[AnTuTu comparison]

AnTuTu is a widely used benchmarking tool to measure the overall performance of a smartphone. It provides a comprehensive assessment by running a series of tests that measure various capabilities, such as CPU, GPU, memory, and UX.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Exynos 2400 - AnTuTu

The Exynos 2400 is clearly ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a significant margin of around 40%. Even the individual scores are better than those of the Snapdragon chip.

Here’s a closer look at the AnTuTu v10 scores:

[Geekbench comparison]

Geekbench primarily focuses on evaluating CPU capabilities of a device, and again, the Exynos 2400 chip takes the lead.

SD 8 Gen 2Exynos 2400

Multi core4,8366,491

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Exynos 2400: Key differences

While both are strong chipsets for smartphones, there are critical differences that separate them. First is that the Exynos chip has got two additional cores. Even the remaining eight cores on both chips aren’t the same.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has one Cortex-X3 prime core running at 3.2GHz, two Cortex-A715 and two Cortex-A710 performance cores clocked at 2.8GHz, and three Cortex-A510 power-efficiency cores at 2.0GHz.

The Exynos 2400 has a more powerful Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at 3.2GHz. Rest, there are five Cortex-A720 performance cores (two of them run at 2.9GHz and three at 2.6GHz), and four Cortex-A520 cores at 2.0GHz.

Clearly, the Exynos 2400 has a more powerful CPU architecture. However, the Snapdragon chip excels in power efficiency, thanks to TSMC’s more efficient fabrication process than Samsung’s.

The GPUs are also different: Adreno 740 on the SD 8 Gen 2 and Samsung Xclipse 940 on the Exynos 2400, with the latter being more powerful, as suggested by AnTuTu. However, both are great for gaming and support hardware ray tracing.

Another notable difference is the peak download speed on these chips —the Snapdragon chip peaks at 10Gbps (vs. 9.6Gbps on the Exynos 2400). However, the Exynos supports a newer Bluetooth 5.4 standard than 5.3 on the 8 Gen 2.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Exynos 2400: Conclusion

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Exynos 2400 are high-performance chips. They can smoothly handle everyday tasks, as well as gaming. However, when putting them to the test, the Exynos 2400 outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in CPU and GPU tests.

The Exynos 2400 sounds like a better choice. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 isn’t far behind. For everyday tasks and casual gaming, any of the two chips would work just fine.

However, if there’s a hefty discount on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone that makes it a significantly cheaper deal than getting an Exynos 2400 phone, I wouldn’t mind saving some cash.

Oppo A5 Pro teaser video hints top-notch durability, color options revealed

The Oppo A5 Pro, set to be unveiled on Dec. 24, is being positioned as the “Durable God of War” with a focus on ruggedness and reliable performance. Currently, the official teasers are building up excitement for this upcoming release. Today, the brand released posters confirming the A5 Pro’s color options.

Oppo A5 Pro color options

The Oppo A5 Pro will be available in three color variants: Sandstone Purple, Quartz White, and Rock Black. Additionally, the teaser video released by the brand highlights the durability of the device. Probably, it will retain the IP69-level of dust and water resistance that was introduced on its successor, the Oppo A3 Pro.

Oppo A5 Pro specifications (rumored)

The Oppo A5 Pro, which reportedly has the model number “PKP110,” has already passed certification from the TENAA authority in China. It features a 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2412 x 1080 pixels and supports 10-bit color depth, promising excellent visual quality.

Under the hood, it is equipped with an octa-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, speculated to be the Dimensity 7300. The device will arrive with up to 12 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, and a battery of around 6,000mAh capacity.

The Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design is expected to come with key specs, such as a 6.8-inch OLED panel that offers a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a 50-megapixel (main) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 200-megapixel (periscope telephoto) triple camera setup. The device may ship in two configurations: 24GB+512GB and 24GB+1TB.

Honor is likely to introduce other new products at the Dec. 23 event, possibly in the smart wearables or smart home categories. This follows a successful launch event on Dec. 16, where the company unveiled the Honor GT and Honor Pad V9. The Honor GT, featuring a 6.7-inch 1.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform, has already impressed with its advanced gaming optimizations and 100W fast charging capability.

Is Redmi K80 Pro really better than iQOO Neo 10 Pro?

Redmi K80 Pro and iQOO Neo 10 Pro are two flagship smartphones recently launched in China that showcase cutting-edge specifications and unique features in the premium segment.

Both devices target performance enthusiasts and gamers while also offering an excellent multimedia experience. Let’s dive into a detailed comparison of the two smartphones, covering aspects like display, performance, camera capabilities, battery life, and pricing.

REDMI K80 Pro

1. Display and Design

Redmi K80 Pro sports a 6.67-inch 2K (3200 x 1440 pixels) AMOLED display, boasting a peak brightness of up to 3200 nits, which makes it exceedingly bright and ideal for use in various lighting conditions. The display also features a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support, ensuring vibrant colors and smooth transitions. The front of the device features a new ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and maintains a sleek design with an ultra-narrow bottom frame, which is 21% narrower than its predecessor.

iQOO Neo 10 Pro, on the other hand, features a slightly larger 6.78-inch 1.5K (2800 x 1260 pixels) LTPO AMOLED display that also supports HDR10+ and has a higher peak brightness at 4500 nits. This phone offers a 144Hz refresh rate, which is superior for gaming and video playback. The design includes ultra-narrow side bezels and a distinctive straight-edge indium wire middle frame, giving it a robust and stylish look.

2. Performance

Under the hood, the Redmi K80 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. It features the D1 gaming chip and an advanced cooling system, which includes a circular cold pump and vapor-liquid separation design to keep the device cool under heavy usage.

Conversely, the iQOO Neo 10 Pro opts for the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC, which also supports up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Its cooling solution, the 6.4K Canopy VC liquid cooling system, claims a substantial temperature reduction of 14.5°C in 10 seconds, which is impressive for maintaining performance during intensive tasks.

3. Camera

The Redmi K80 Pro features a triple rear camera setup led by a 50MP 1/1.55″ Light Fusion 800 sensor with OIS and EIS. It is accompanied by a 32MP ultra-wide sensor with a 120° field of view and a 50MP 2.5x telephoto lens with a 10cm macro capability, offering impressive zoom and close-up shots. The camera system supports 8K video recording, enhanced by Xiaomi AISP 2.0, which boosts image processing capabilities for dynamic range and clarity.

The iQOO Neo 10 Pro opts for a dual rear camera setup. It features a 50MP Sony IMX921 VCS bionic sensor with OIS, delivering excellent imaging performance. Additionally, it includes a 50MP ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, which provides a broader perspective and matches the K80 Pro’s resolution for wide-angle shots. The Neo 10 Pro lacks a telephoto lens but compensates with strong overall image processing.

On the front, the K80 Pro uses the 20MP OmniVision OV20B40 sensor, while the Neo 10 Pro features a 16MP shooter. Both cameras are capable of high-quality selfies and video calls.

4. Battery and Charging

Battery performance is another battleground for these devices. The Redmi K80 Pro comes with a 6000mAh battery supporting 120W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. This ensures quick charging times and longer periods between charges.

The iQOO Neo 10 Pro features a slightly larger 6100mAh battery but matches the 120W fast charging support seen in the Redmi. However, it lacks wireless charging, which might be a drawback for users seeking that convenience.

5. Software and Other Features

Both smartphones run Android-based custom UIs, with the Redmi K80 Pro featuring Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 and the iQOO Neo 10 Pro running OriginOS 5.0. Both UIs bring feature-rich experiences with extensive customization options. The Redmi K80 Pro integrates a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, providing quick and secure biometric unlocking, and includes features like an infrared sensor, NFC, and Hi-Res audio support.

The iQOO Neo 10 Pro also offers a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and Hi-Fi audio support. Both phones are equipped with advanced connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and support for dual 5G networks.

6. Pricing and Verdict

The Redmi K80 Pro starts at 3699 yuan ($507) for the 12GB + 256GB variant, with higher configurations reaching up to 4999 yuan ($686) for the Champion Edition. In comparison, the iQOO Neo 10 Pro starts at 3199 yuan ($439) for the base 12GB + 256GB variant, making it slightly more affordable across most configurations.

7. Conclusion

Choosing between the Redmi K80 Pro and the iQOO Neo 10 Pro ultimately depends on user preference for certain features like display quality, camera performance, and charging capabilities. The Redmi K80 Pro offers a slightly better display, 8 Elite’s raw performance, and a more versatile camera system, while the iQOO Neo 10 Pro excels in performance cooling and has a slightly sharper design. Both phones offer excellent value, but the choice comes down to prioritizing specific features over others.

Katana-Inspired G-Shock MR-G Watch Now on Pre-Order in the US, Only 110 Units Available

Casio has launched the G-Shock MRGB2000JS1A watch in the US, with pre-orders now open at $8,000. This premium model, limited to just 110 units in the country, merges traditional Japanese craftsmanship with advanced watch technology. It was recently released in Japan as the MRG-B2000JS-1AJR and is expected to launch in the UK soon at £6,700, though the exact date remains unspecified.

Casio G-SHOCK MRG-B2000JS-1A

The watch is a tribute to Japanese sword-making traditions, crafted in collaboration with master swordsmith Kamiyama Teruhira and lacquer artisan Nomura Mamoru. Inspired by the Juryoku-Maru: San katana, the bezel is made of recrystallized titanium, mimicking the edge patterns found on hand-forged blades. A blue-grey AIP coating on the case reflects the polished finish of a sword’s blade, while the band incorporates aogai-nuri, a lacquer technique with mother-of-pearl inlay, mirroring the scabbard’s intricate design.

Casio G-SHOCK MRG-B2000JS-1A

Each watch is unique, featuring an individually numbered backplate engraved by Kamiyama Teruhira. The dial showcases a hishimaki-gara diamond-shaped pattern, traditionally seen on sword hilts, while the watch indexes are subtly shaped to resemble a blade’s curve.

Casio G-SHOCK MRG-B2000JS-1A

Despite its traditional design, the MRGB2000JS1A offers modern features. It comes with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing the wearer to sync it with a smartphone for time adjustments. The radio-controlled timekeeping ensures precision, while Casio’s Tough Solar technology powers the watch. It also includes dual time zones, automatic hand correction, and a Super Illuminator LED backlight for visibility in low light.

The watch remains true to G-Shock’s durability standards. It is shock-resistant, offers 200m water resistance, and features a sapphire crystal face for scratch resistance. The titanium alloy case and bracelet come with a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, ensuring long-term durability and a premium finish. The limited availability and craftsmanship make the G-Shock MRGB2000JS1A a collector’s item, blending Japanese heritage with cutting-edge functionality.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be the ‘best of both worlds’: Writable like before yet Slim like Z Fold SE

Samsung is reportedly exploring ways to make the Galaxy Z Fold 7 slimmer without losing the S Pen functionality, which was the case with the recently released Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Samsung aims to achieve this goal by removing the traditional digitizer—a key component responsible for enabling pen input.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

Samsung could follow in Apple’s footsteps

According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics is actively considering adopting pen input technology that does not require a digitizer for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, expected to launch in 2025. This move comes as part of Samsung’s strategy to make foldable phones thinner—a growing priority in the competitive foldable market.

The digitizer, used to enable electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology, has been part of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold lineup since the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It creates an electric field on the display panel, allowing for accurate and battery-free pen input. However, this technology contributes to the device’s thickness, forcing trade-offs between pen input and slimness.

To address this, Samsung is reviewing a new technology similar to Apple’s Active Electrostatic (AES) method. Unlike EMR, AES shifts the technology from the display to the pen itself, where a small battery and electronic components generate the necessary electric input. While this makes the pen thicker and requires charging, it allows for a thinner phone body, as seen with the Apple Pencil.

Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition

While Samsung is rethinking the pen technology for its foldable lineup, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is unlikely to see similar changes. Following its predecessors, the S25 Ultra will almost certainly retain its built-in S Pen and traditional digitizer technology. This means users can expect the familiar seamless pen experience, with no compromises on usability or design.

If successful, Samsung’s technological pivot for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could deliver the best of both worlds: a slimmer foldable device that still supports S Pen functionality. With increasing competition in the foldable space, this innovation could set the Fold 7 apart in 2025. Unfortunately, Samsung is not building the ‘S Pen’ into its foldable phone and is selling it separately.
