Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro & Redmi K80 Ultra may launch with an Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor

Xiaomi might be bringing an enhanced security system to two of its upcoming budget flagship smartphones. The brand might be bringing a fingerprint sensor technology that is typically reserved for premium smartphones, so here’s everything we know so far.

Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro & Redmi K80 Ultra Leak

The latest information arrives from the known tipster Smart Pikachu (Via TechOutlook). In the Weibo post, the Redmi K80 Ultra and the Xiaom Civi 5 Pro will house an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the display. Apparently, the Chinese tech giant is currently testing this sensor for the Civi 5 Pro and K80 Ultra models. So you’re getting a better sensor for fingerprint security over the predecessors, which are the Civi 4 and K70 series.

Redmi-K80-and-K80-Pro

Back in October, we covered a list of reasons why the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is better for smartphone security. These sensors can create 3D images of your fingerprints, over the 2D mapping of optical scanners. These are also faster and can read through wet, oily, or dirty fingers as well. Recently, a bunch of smartphones that are not from the ultra premium segment have started featuring this technology, so it won’t be surprising that the Civi 5 Pro and K80 Ultra also ship with this feature.

The Redmi K80 series has already broken records with over 1 million units selling in just 10 days. We recently unboxed the new Redmi K80 and K80 Pro as well. Both models launched a couple of weeks ago in China and saw impressive sales on day one. However, Xiaomi’s new Civi lineup and the K80 Ultra model have yet to be announced. Rumors have hinted at the next gen Civi 5 series to be equipped with the Dimensity 9400, which is a flagship grade processor. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more updates.

Why the Honor 300 Ultra Doesn’t Make Sense

Honor recently unveiled its new number series phones, the Honor 300 Pro and Honor 300 Ultra. While both phones target the high-end market, a closer look at them reveals they are surprisingly similar. So this begs the question whether the Ultra model justifies its higher price.

Here’s why the Honor 300 Ultra might not make much sense when the 300 Pro offers nearly identical specifications at a significantly lower cost.

Honor 300 Ultra design(1)
Honor 300 Ultra

Next

Conclusion: Why Pay More?

Considering these factors, the Honor 300 Ultra feels like a tough sell. While it offers a few incremental improvements over the Pro, these differences are too minor to warrant the price jump. For the vast majority of users, the Honor 300 Pro provides better value for money without compromising performance, display, or even camera quality in meaningful ways.

The Ultra seems more like a “halo” product designed to showcase exclusivity rather than delivering meaningful upgrades to earn its “Ultra” label. Unless you specifically need its niche features, the Pro remains the smarter choice.

Galaxy S25 series will remove background noise and enhance voice in video recording using AI

Samsung officially announced One UI 7 Beta on December 5, which will first be available on Galaxy S24 series devices in Germany, India, South Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The stable version of Android 15-based One UI 7 will debut alongside the Galaxy S25 series on January 2025.

Now tipster ICE Universe claims that the subsequent version of One UI 7 will add a new “audio eraser” feature, which is not currently available in the Beta1 version. This audio eraser feature in One UI 7 enables users to adjust the volume of specific sounds in a video. For example, it can reduce or remove noise from wind, traffic, or other background distractions while preserving the clarity of voices. This innovative tool is set to enhance the overall user experience without needing external software.

The One UI 7 Beta introduces several exciting updates, particularly focusing on AI-driven features to enhance user productivity and device functionality.

Other key features and improvements in One UI 7

Advanced Writing Assistance: One UI 7 integrates advanced writing tools within the system’s AI capabilities. These tools can help users summarize content, check spelling and grammar, and automatically format notes into bullet points. This integration ensures seamless multitasking, allowing users to select text without needing to switch between apps.

Automatic Call Transcription: A major upgrade to the call feature in One UI 7 is the ability to automatically transcribe call recordings once they are enabled. This feature removes the need for manual note-taking during calls, making it ideal for those who need to capture important information on the go.

NowBar: A redesigned notification system called Now Bar simplifies communication and provides easier access to important notifications directly from the device’s lock screen. This feature reduces the need to constantly unlock the device, enabling users to handle key information more efficiently. The Now Bar will be supported on future Galaxy S series devices and will evolve to offer an even smarter experience in future updates.

Redesigned Camera UX: One UI 7 also includes a revamped camera interface, offering more intuitive control over advanced settings. The camera buttons, modes, and controls have been redesigned to ensure easier navigation and a clearer preview of photos and videos before they are captured.

6. Pricing and Availability

The Honor 300 Pro is available in multiple configurations, with the base model starting at 3399 yuan ($467) and going up to 3999 yuan ($550) for the top-tier variant.

The Vivo S20 Pro starts at the same price, 3399 yuan ($467), and goes up to 3999 yuan ($550) for its highest configuration. Pricing is nearly identical, so the decision will depend on your preference for features and design.

7. Conclusion

Honor 300 Pro is an excellent choice for users prioritizing wireless charging, a flat display, and a robust Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. On the other hand, the Vivo S20 Pro is perfect for users looking for a premium design, curved display, and exceptional camera setup. 1. Performance Gains and Efficiency

Though concrete benchmarks are limited, reports from Huawei’s internal testing indicate a remarkable 40 percent overall performance boost compared to the Kirin 9010. This improvement is attributed to the enhanced CPU and GPU, as well as optimizations in power management.

Interestingly, the Kirin 9020 appears to be more power-efficient than its predecessor, the Kirin 9000s. Tests suggest a 20% reduction in power consumption, achieved through architectural refinements and a more efficient manufacturing process.

2. Connectivity and Features

Early reports suggest that the Kirin 9020 might be the industry’s first 3GPP R18 5G-A SoC. This advanced technology integrates satellite access into 5G systems, promising seamless communication even in remote areas. The chipset also likely includes a dedicated satellite module for enhanced connectivity.

3. A Unique Design

Teardowns of devices powered by the Kirin 9020 reveal a larger and thicker carrier board compared to previous Kirin chips. This suggests a more complex design and potentially the integration of additional components, such as the rumored satellite module.

Despite the limited official information, the Kirin 9020 has undeniably made a strong impression. Its unique CPU configuration, powerful GPU, and focus on power efficiency point towards a top-tier chipset capable of delivering exceptional performance. The potential inclusion of advanced 5G-A technology and satellite connectivity further solidifies its position as a cutting-edge processor.

CMF Phone 1 blast kills one, and injures another person in India

A man in Maharashtra, India, died tragically on Sunday after a Nothing sub-brand CMF Phone 1 exploded in his pocket while he was riding a motorcycle. Another person on the bike sustained serious injuries, according to reports from Marathi news channel ABP Majha.

The details surrounding the incident remain limited at this time. ABP Majha reports that the phone, which was purchased just over a month ago, exploded in the victim’s pocket while he was riding, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. This led to the fatal accident, while the other person suffered injuries.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. However, according to reports from different sources, the phone’s battery might have been the culprit.

It’s concerning, to say the least, especially considering the CMF Phone 1 was only launched in July 2024. Nothing has yet to comment publicly on the incident.

This is the first reported incident of a CMF Phone 1 explosion, but smartphone blasts are not uncommon. In the past, similar cases have involved brands like OnePlus, and even an iPhone 14 Pro Max exploded while charging just last November.

This incident is a reminder for all smartphone users to prioritize safety. Keep these essential tips in mind:

  • Be aware of overheating: If your phone feels unusually warm, especially when charging or during intensive tasks, turn it off and let it cool down in a well-ventilated area. Avoid using damaged or non-certified chargers.
  • Look for signs of battery swelling: A bulging back panel can indicate a swollen battery, a significant safety hazard. If you notice this, stop using the phone immediately and contact the manufacturer or customer support.

Keep software updated: Manufacturers often release updates that address battery management issues. Keeping your phone’s software up-to-date can help mitigate potential risks.
