Huawei Mate 70 specifications tipped: could adopt ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and larger batteries

Huawei‘s Executive Director Yu Chengdong (also known as Richard Yu) revealed at the last Huawei Developer Conference that the Mate 70 series will be released in Q4 2024. In the latest news, Weibo tipster 智慧皮卡丘 has revealed the specifications of the Mate 70 series.

HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02

According to the tipster, all models of the Huawei Mate 70 series will use customized top-level 1.5K panels. He added that ‘some models’ of the series will be equipped with four-equal-depth screens, while the others will equip flat displays that will also be slightly more compact.

He also revealed that the company has worked on an ultrasonic fingerprint solution. There is a chance the series could equip the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. For context. the predecessor packs an under-display optical fingerprint scanner. In addition to that, the entire entire series is expected to pack larger batteries inside, which reportedly use different substrate material and may have a higher energy density. A higher energy density allows devices to pack more capacity without getting bulkier.

Notably, the company is also working on a new tablet, which is expected to be released alongside the Huawei Mate 70 series in November this year. The Huawei Mate 60 series was released towards the end of August last year. This delay is expected to be due to the company’s development of HarmonyOS Next, which is said to bring major improvements to the overall user experience.

A previous report suggests that the phone’s chipset could use the same 7nm fabrication. The chipset is speculated to be the Kirin 9100 which somehow achieves a relatively higher transistor density. The 7nm process could be SMIC’s N+3 process node. The reason behind using the 7nm process is reportedly low yield rates and high cost of the foundry’s current 5nm process node.

Upcoming Smartphones: Realme C63 5G

After a long while, there won’t be many smartphone launches in the next few days. As of writing this post, only one brand has scheduled a new release.

This company is none other than Realme, which has been pushing so many phones over the past few quarters. For the unaware, there’s at least one new smartphone launch a month from the brand.

Almost all of them have been budget models. The forthcoming device will also be the same. It will be an entry-level 5G smartphone.

Let’s check out what this yet-to-release handset will offer.

Upcoming Smartphones Next Week

1. Realme C63 5G

Realme C63 5G

The Realme C63 5G is set to launch in India on August 12 (Monday). As the name suggests, it will be a 5G variant of the recently released Realme C63.

Not much is known about this product, except for its design. The phone will sport a flat frame and a squircle camera island. It will be available in gold and green color options.

We expect it to feature an entry-level 5G chip and a large battery. Just like most budget smartphones, it will likely flaunt a big display with an HD+ resolution.

Lastly, it will most likely house a MediaTek chipset. If it was the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, the company may have teased it already. And Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will be the first to debut this SoC in a handset later this year.

Apple’s 2024 Mac mini could get even smaller & feature the new M4 chip

Apple is apparently planning on a major redesign for its compact PC, the Mac mini. This would mark the first ever change in the product line in over a decade. Despite a more compact form factor, Apple could also equip this mini PC with its new M4 chipset.

Apple 2024 Mac mini: What’s coming?

The news about the Cupertino based giant’s next gen Mac mini arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. He claimed that the company is making the Mac mini even more compact. The Apple’s new PC could become the smallest Mac mini. Gurman added that this model will have a form factor comparable to the Apple TV. While the device may get a smaller form factor, the hardware on the inside is getting an upgrade. The Mac mini will reportedly launch in two configurations, namely M4 and M4 Pro chipsets.

Mac mini with M1 chip
M1 Mac mini

Connectivity options include three USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a power cable. The higher end M4 Pro variant may launch with support for additional RAM and enhanced graphics. Although the overall physical footprint is smaller, it could be slightly taller than the existing Mac mini. To recall, the Apple mini PC measures 1.4 inches in height. The newer model will retain its iconic aluminum body like its predecessors. Mark Gurman referred to the M4 Mac mini as an “iPad Pro in a small box.”

Apple is rumored to refresh its Mac lineup of PCs with M4 chips in 2025. On the other hand, the Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and iMac could transition to these newer chips within this year. Apple is expected to launch the Mac mini in a couple of months, with the high end model possibly releasing in October. Unfortunately, there is no word regarding the pricing. There is a chance that the 2024 Mac mini will get a price hike, but that is still unclear.

SK Hynix demonstrates the next generation of UFS storage

According to a recent press release from South Korean semiconductor manufacturer SK Hynix, the company has developed a series of new storage products, which the company showcased at the FMS 2024 Summit. The development includes USF 4.1 universal flash memory.

SK Hynix showcased two UFS 4.1 universal flash memories with capacities of 512GB and 1TB respectively. Both of them are based on 321-layer stacked V9 1Tb TLC NAND flash memory. The company not only displayed the announced 1Tb capacity and 2.4Gbps rate TLC, but also exhibited the industry-leading 3.2Gbps V9 2Tb QLC and 3.6Gbps high-speed V9H 1Tb TLC particles for the first time.

Unfortunately, detailed specifications of the UFS 4.1 storage chips have not been officially released yet. It was rumored that the UFS 4.1 storage offers a data transfer rate of 8 gigabits per second (GB/s), which is an improvement over the 4 GB/s offered by the UFS 4.0 storage chips.

The latest UFS specification that has been published is UFS 4.0 in August 2022. UFS 4.0 specifies a theoretical interface speed of up to 46.4Gbps per device, and USF 4.1 is expected to further improve the transfer rate.

Back in May this year, the company also announced its development of the ZUFS 4.0 (Zoned UFS). According to the company, this is a NAND flash memory chip that improves the efficiency of data management and optimizes data transfer between the operating system and storage devices. The application of this flash memory product includes various electronic devices such as digital cameras and smartphones. According to the company. it also improves the performance of the on-device AI applications.

UFS 4.1 is expected to further improve the storage performance of smartphones and other electronic devices. According to a previous leak, we could be able to experience the improvements offered by UFS 4.1 with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Is Infinix Note 40x 5G the best value 5G phone?

Last week, Infinix announced the Infinix Note 40x 5G as the most affordable Note 40-series phone in India. The Dimensity 6300-powered phone has a starting price of Rs 14,999. It is currently the most affordable Infinix phone among its recent offerings. Here are the top reasons why it could be the best value 5G phone on the market right now:

1. Generous memory and storage

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The Infinix Note 40x 5G offers up to 256GB of storage with a budget of around Rs 15,000. I found this particularly useful for multitasking and storing a large amount of data without worrying about running out of space. The 8GB and 12GB RAM variants both provide ample room for various apps and media. In addition, it offers a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card.

2. Capable primary camera

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The 108-megapixel Samsung HM6 primary camera, coupled with a quad-LED flash, performs well in bright conditions. In addition, the low-light performance is good when there is sufficient artificial lighting. It is good to see the portrait mode offer 1x and 2x zoom options. When it comes to video shooting, it can capture up to 2K (30 fps) video footage with 1x and 3x zoom options.

I appreciated the flexibility offered by the 15+ camera modes, including dual video and pro mode. The 8-megapixel front camera with an adjustable dual-LED flash produces decent results. The front camera can be used to capture wide and regular selfies and up to 2K videos (30 fps). The front and rear cameras can capture 720p portrait blur videos.

3. Enjoyable viewing experience

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The 6.78-inch FHD+ punch-hole display with a 120Hz refresh rate delivers smooth visuals. I noticed a slight blue tint on the screen initially, but fortunately, the device offers various color schemes. I was able to adjust the display settings to a warmer tone, which made for a more comfortable viewing experience. With 500 nits of brightness, the display remained clear even in bright environments. The interactive dynamic port feature added a wonderful touch. In addition, the dual speakers allow the phone to offer a pleasing viewing experience. As far as content streaming is concerned, the device comes with Widevine L1 support.

Ideally, it would have been beneficial if the company offered an AMOLED screen like the other Infinix Note 40-branded phones.

4. Reliable performance with Dimensity 6300

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

Without noticeable lag, the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor handled daily tasks and more intensive applications. This price range typically pairs the SoC with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. Running on Android 14 with XOS 14, the phone provided a smooth experience. No major Android upgrades have been promised for the device. However, the device will receive two years of security updates.

As far as AI features are concerned, it comes preloaded with an AI Wallpaper Generator and an AI Cam. As can be seen in the below images, the AI Wallpaper Generator feature functions satisfactorily.

5. Decent battery performance

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The 5,000mAh battery lasted through a full day of use, including streaming and heavy usage. With the in-box 18W charger, it takes around 1:30 hours to achieve a full charge. The device offers battery-related features, such as wired reverse charging, smart and ultra powering modes.

6. Design is okay, could have been better

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The Note 40x 5G has a good in-hand feel, thanks to its multi-gradient finish and chrome accents. Available in Lime Green, Palm Blue, and Starlit Black, it offers a range of colours to suit different tastes. On a personal note, I found that the device’s design gives it a more premium appearance, somewhat reminiscent of the Hote series, rather than the typical Note 40 series look.

The retail package of the device includes the Note 40x 5G handset, an 18W charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable. a plastic case, a user guide, a warranty guide, and a SIM ejector tool.

7. Good audio experience

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The dual speakers with DTS audio processing provide a decent audio experience for media consumption, delivering a balanced sound overall. However, I noticed that around 70 percent of the sound output seems to come from the bottom speaker and 30 percent from the top. This difference isn’t noticeable during regular use but becomes apparent if you place your ear directly on each speaker separately. The four sound modes—Smart, Music, Video, and Game—are still practical, enhancing the audio based on what you’re listening to or watching.

8. Only phone with NFC in its price segment

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

The Note 40x 5G is unique in its segment for including multifunctional NFC technology. This feature simplifies transactions and data sharing, allowing you to make secure payments, exchange contacts, or pair with other NFC-enabled devices effortlessly. This adds a valuable layer of convenience to your daily tasks. Apart from NFC, the Note 40x 5G promises good 5G coverage with support for multiple 5G (n1/n3/n5/n8/n28/n38/n40/n41/n77/n78) bands.

9. Infinix Note 40x 5G price in India and competitors

Infinix Note 40x 5G in Palm Blue

The Infinix Note 40x 5G’s 8GB + 256GB variant is available at Rs 14,999, while the 12GB + 256GB variant costs Rs 15,999. Apart from Starlit Black, the Note 40x also comes in Palm Blue and Lime Green shades. Other phones powered by the Dimensity 6300 are available in India:

  • Oppo K12x (6GB+40Xfor Rs 12,999)
  • Oppo A3x 5G (4GB+64GB for Rs 12,499)
  • Oppo A3 Pro 5G (8GB+128GB: Rs 17,999)

Some of the other phones equipped with different chipsets in the same price range include:

  • Moto G64 5G (Dimensity 7025, 8GB+128GB for Rs 13,999)
  • CMF Phone 1 (AMOLED screen, Dimensity 7300, 6GB+128GB for Rs 15,999)
  • Realme P1 5G (AMOLED screen, Dimensity 7050, 6GB+128GB for Rs 15,999)
  • Redmi 13 5G (Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE, 8GB+128GB: Rs 15,499)
  • Poco X6 Neo 5G (AMOLED screen, Dimensity 6080, 8G+128GB: Rs 14,499)
  • Samsung Galaxy F34 5G (AMOLED screen, Exynos 1280, 8G+128GB Rs 14,999)

10. Verdict

Infinix Note 40x 5G
Infinix Note 40x 5G

With the exception of the Moto G64 5G, which offers similar higher memory configurations but at a different price point, the Infinix Note 40x 5G stands out as the only phone in its segment to provide 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB variants at such competitive prices. This makes it an exceptional value-for-money choice, especially for users who need ample storage and RAM for a smooth and efficient smartphone experience.

Overall, my experience with the Infinix Note 40x 5G has been positive. It offers a well-rounded package of features at a competitive price, making it a strong candidate for those seeking value in a 5G smartphone.

The CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2, a wearable launched in July 2024, is receiving a new software update. Version 1.0.0.51 is rolling out in phases to users, bringing a mix of minor tweaks and a single key feature: Google Health Connect integration – but only for Android users.

The update changelog details a series of optimizations. Incoming call notifications now have a revised light animation, while the presentation of weekly temperature data has been adjusted for better clarity. The world clock function has received a minor tweak in how daylight saving time information is displayed.

Additionally, specific widgets on the watch now offer an improved presentation for calorie and exercise duration measurements. Finally, the update promises a general “boost” to the user experience, though the changelog lacks specifics.

The most significant addition in version 1.0.0.51 is undoubtedly Google Health Connect integration. This functionality, exclusive to Android devices, allows users to sync health data collected by the Watch Pro 2 with Google’s health data platform. This integration could offer users a more comprehensive view of their health data by combining information from the Watch Pro 2 with data from other fitness trackers and health apps within the Google ecosystem.

The accompanying CMF Watch app, available on both Android and iOS, also receives an update alongside the Watch Pro 2 firmware. Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 3 renderings exposed again

We have already seen the design of the upcoming Pixel devices thanks to a leaked promo video of the Pixel Watch 3 and renders of the Pixel 9 series. Now more renders of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Pixel Watch 3 have surfaced on the internet, thanks to tipster Arsène Lupin.

Pixel Watch 3:

You can see the renders of the Pixel Watch 3 below, which looks very similar to the predecessor. However, it was reported that the Pixel watch 3 will come with a brighter display and possibly slightly slimmer bezels. The strap seems to retain the design of the predecessor. You can also see the speculated color options from the images below.

According to a previous report, the watch 3 series will continue to use the same Qualcomm 5100 chip and the Cortex M33 coprocessor. as the predecessor. It will be paired with the same 2GB RAM and 32GB eMMC storage, which is also the same as the predecessor. So the watch will have a very similar computing power as the predecessor. However, it is expected that the new watch will come equipped with Wear OS 5 out of the box, which may offer some improvements to the new watches. It is also speculated that the refresh rate has been upgraded from 30Hz to 60Hz.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold:

The tipster has once again shared high-definition renders of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which you can check out below. According to sources, Google plans to launch two storage versions for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold phone, 256GB and 512GB. These two versions are expected to be priced at US$1,799 and US$1,919 respectively.

According to previous rumors, the phone will come with an 8.0-inch inner screen with specifications of 147×141 mm, and a resolution of 2152 x 2076 pixels. The panel will have a pixel density of 374ppi, which is very similar to the Pixel Fold. The predecessor was slightly taller than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which comes with a 6:5 aspect ratio.

The outer screen is measured at 6.24″. For context, the predecessor offers a 5.8″ cover display. The outer panel on the upcoming device will reportedly reach 1800 nits in high brightness mode, while the predecessor reaches 1200 nits.

It has managed to score 967 points on the single-core test and 1971 points on the multicore test of Geekbench 6.

Samsung Galaxy A15 5G

The phone is rumored to feature a 50 MP primary camera, 5 MP secondary camera, and 2 MP macro camera. On the front, it will likely feature a 13 MP selfie sensor. More details are not available at this point, however, it will likely have a 5,000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging. OnePlus Nord 4 proves incredibly risky to repair, scores 4 out of 10

The newly released OnePlus Nord 4 is the first 5G phone to feature an aluminum unibody construction. While this design choice offers a more rugged feel and potential for better impact resistance, it throws a wrench into independent repairs.

Tech teardown specialist PBKReviews recently delved into Nord 4’s internals, and the process wasn’t smooth sailing. The video reveals that the metal back, which gives the phone its rugged feel, is extremely difficult to pry open, making it hard to access the core components.

Even removing the top glass cover was tough, despite the YouTuber’s initial success with a plastic tool. However, removing the metal back required metal tools which increases the the risk of scratching or denting the phone’s sleek aluminum shell.

However, the Nord 4 might have a silver lining (pun intended). The aluminum build seems sturdier than the ubiquitous glass-backed phones. Its Oasis Green shell withstood bending attempts despite the slim profile. Additionally, an IP65 dust and water resistance rating suggests the phone can handle minor spills and dust exposure.

The news isn’t all bad for DIY repairs. The phone’s 5,500mAh battery utilizes an adhesive pouch for easier removal and replacement. Furthermore, it might be possible to remove and replace its high-end Aqua Touch 120Hz AMOLED display – just watch out for the ribbon connector in the lower left corner.

Despite these positives, PBKReviews awarded the Nord 4 a disappointing 4/10 repairability score, falling short of even the recently reviewed CMF Phone 1. While the metal construction enhances durability, it seems independent repairs on the Nord 4 will be a time-consuming and potentially risky endeavor.

Realme 13+ 5G to feature Dimensity 7300, 80W charging reveal Geekbench, certification listings

Recently, a Realme phone with the model number RMX5002 was approved by China’s TENAA certification platform. The listing revealed images and key specifications of the device but did not disclose its name, chipset, or rapid charging capabilities. In a new development, the Realme RMX5002 has received approval from Indonesia’s SDPPI certification platform, which confirms that the device will be called the Realme 13+ 5G when it launches. This suggests that the RMX5002 listed in TENAA’s database could be the Chinese variant of the Realme 13+ 5G. Additionally, the device has already appeared in the databases of Geekbench and TUV Rheinland Japan, revealing details about its chipset and rapid charging capabilities.

The Realme 13+ 5G’s TENAA listing revealed that it runs on a 2.5GHz octa-core chip, but it did not specify the name of the chipset. As can be seen above, the Geekbench listing reveals that the device is powered by the 2.5GHz MediaTek MT6878 chipset, which includes the Mali-G615 MC2 GPU (via source code). These details are sufficient to confirm that the Dimensity 7300 powers the Realme 13+ 5G.

The Geekbench listing further reveals that the Realme 13+ 5G has 6 GB of RAM and Android 14 onboard. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the device scored 1043 and 2925 points, respectively.

Huawei’s tri-foldable phone spotted in real, launching soon

Huawei launched the Huawei Mate X as its first foldable phone in 2019. Now, the brand is reportedly working on announcing the world’s first tri-foldable phone. Social platforms in China are circulating the following image, which shows Huawei CEO for Consumer Business Group, Yu Richard holding the upcoming tri-foldable phone.

Huawei’s tri-foldable phone revealed

Huawei’s Richard Yu was spotted using Huawei’s first tri-foldable phone

In recent Weibo posts, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station said that he has seen a prototype of the world’s first tri-foldable phone. This device features both an inward and outward fold with a dual-hinge mechanism. The screen size is estimated to be around 10 inches, and the crease control is reportedly well-managed.

However, the thickness of the device is more than that of a regular foldable phone, which is understandable. Additionally, the phone incorporates several cutting-edge technologies, making it unlikely that any competitors will emerge in the near future. He also said that the device will carry a premium price tag.

DCS stated in today’s Weibo post that Richard Yu’s actual tri-foldable phone matches the prototype he previously used during the research and development phase. As can be seen in the image, the screen has a punch-hole for the camera in the upper-left corner.

Under the hood, Huawei’s tri-foldable phone will feature the Kirin 9-series chipset. He stated that the device would make its debut before the Mate 70.

Earlier this month, Huawei unveiled the Nova Flip in China. It is speculated that the Nova 13 series of smartphones may break cover this month or in September. Reports indicate that the Mate 70 series will not launch until Q4 2024. This suggests that Huawei’s tri-foldable phone may break cover in September or October.

Purported Redmi Note 14 / Poco X7 Neo receive BIS certification, launch imminent

Recently, a Redmi phone with the 24094RAD4C model number was approved by China’s 3C authority. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in India has now approved the Indian variant of the device with the 24094RAD4I model number. Alongside the Indian variant, an upcoming Poco phone has also emerged through BIS certification.

Alleged Redmi Note 14 / Poco X7 Neo BIS certified

As can be seen above, two upcoming smartphones with model numbers 24094RAD4I and 2409FPCC4I have received approval from the BIS authority. As mentioned above, the former seems to be the Indian version of the Redmi Note 14. In June, Europe’s EEC certified the global version of this same device, bearing the 24094RAD4G model number.

Redmi Note 14 (global) EEC certification

The letters “PC” mentioned in the 2409FPCC4I model number suggest that it is an upcoming Poco smartphone.  To recall, Redmi announced the Redmi Note 13 5G, equipped with the Dimensity 6080 chipset. In March, Poco announced the Dimensity 6080-powered Poco X6 Neo as a tweaked version of the Redmi Note 14. Hence, it seems like the 2409FPCC4I could be the model number of the Poco X7 Neo.

Readers are advised to digest the above information with a pinch of salt. The 3C certification of the purported Redmi Note 14 revealed that it may ship with a 45W rapid charger. Unfortunately, the other specifications of the device are yet to be revealed.

Reports indicate that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and Dimensity 7350 chipsets, respectively, will power the Redmi Note 14 Pro and 14 Pro+. Both phones may feature a 1.5K resolution OLED panel with curved edges and a 50-megapixel triple camera system on the back.
