Samsung begins mass-producing its latest DRAM packages to improve on-device AI processing

Today Samsung announced it has begun mass production of the “industry’s thinnest” 12 nanometer (nm)-class, 12-gigabyte (GB) and 16GB LPDDR5X DRAM packages. This development is expected to solidify the company’s leadership in the low-power DRAM market.

Image: Samsung

With this development, the company plans to expand its business in the low-power DRAM market by supplying its latest 0.65mm LPDDR5X DRAM to mobile processor makers and device manufacturers.

Samsung has been able to deliver ultra-slim LPDDR5X DRAM packages that can pack more capacity within a given volume. It reportedly also offers better thermal control, a factor that is becoming increasingly critical, especially for high-performance applications, an example on which will be on-device AI processing.

Speaking of the on-device AI processing, the company is currently rumored to be working on expanding its Galaxy AI beyond the S series flagships and rolling it out to select A series devices, starting this year.

“Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM sets a new standard for high-performance on-device AI solutions, offering not only superior LPDDR performance but also advanced thermal management in an ultra-compact package,” said YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to continuous innovation through close collaboration with our customers, delivering solutions that meet the future needs of the low-power DRAM market.”

With the new LPDDR5X DRAM packages, Samsung will offer the industry’s thinnest 12 nm-class LPDDR DRAM in a 4-stack structure. According to the company, it will reduce the thickness by approximately 9% and improve heat resistance by about 21.2%, as compared to its previous generation.

The company also noted that they have managed to make the new LPDDR5X DRAM package is “as thin as a fingernail” at 0.65 millimeters, which is reportedly the the thinnest among existing LPDDR DRAM of 12GB or above. They are using an ‘optimized’ back-lapping process (grinding the backside of a wafer) to reduce the thickness of the DRAM package.

Huawei launches MatePad Pro 12.2 tablet with dual-layer OLED display

Huawei has just unveiled the MatePad Pro 12.2, their latest flagship tablet designed specifically for professional creators. The tablet features a stunning dual-layer OLED display and comes with the latest version of Huawei’s Tianshenghuihua digital painting app. Let’s dive into the details.

Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 Specifications

The MatePad Pro 12.2 emphasizes portability, weighing just 508 grams—making it the lightest 12-inch tablet on the market, according to Huawei. This lightweight design is achieved thanks to a 0.5mm ultra-thin aviation-grade glass fiber back, finished in a distinctive “gold silk.”

The highlight of the MatePad Pro 12.2 is undoubtedly its display. Huawei claims it to be their most advanced yet, featuring a double-layer OLED panel with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and a 2.8K resolution. Huawei claims its dual-layer or Tandem display triple the lifespan of a OLED panel and offers a 33% improvement in power efficiency.

The screen also includes “flash point elimination technology” to reduce flickering and enhance visibility in bright conditions. Other display features include a 144Hz refresh rate, a P3 wide color gamut, and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

Huawei remained mum on the tablet’s chipset as well as battery details. But it’s expected to be powered by Huawei’s new Kirin 9010W processor and a 10,000mAh battery that supports 100W fast charging.

The camera setup includes an 8MP front-facing camera and a rear dual-lens system with a 13MP main sensor. For audio, the tablet is equipped with eight speakers designed for both high and low frequencies.

The MatePad Pro 12.2 also supports the new Huawei Star Leap Keyboard, which features a built-in charging slot for the M-Pencil stylus. This eliminates the need for separate charging and provides convenient storage. The magnetic smart axis design allows for easy one-handed opening and closing, mimicking a laptop experience.

Additionally, the Tianshenghuihua app has been updated to enhance digital creation capabilities. New high-end brushes, inspired by traditional Chinese ink painting, aim to offer a more realistic artistic experience. The app introduces innovative canvases like “gold silk” and “rice paper” and features AI-powered portrait practice for beginners.

In August, Tianshenghuihua will receive an upgrade to the Fangtian Painting Engine 2.0, which includes professional rendering effects, faster synthesis speeds, and support for 8K canvases. Editing tools will also see updates, including magic wand selection and layer positioning.

Samsung Galaxy A06’s latest renderings reveal more about the device

Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy A06 first appeared in leaked renders towards the end of last month. Now a more detailed rendering of the phone is exposed again, revealing more details about the external design, such as a textured back panel.

Galaxy A06 rendering

The rendering shows the same camera layout and texture on the back as compared to its predecessor

According to the latest render, the phone will come with slightly bigger camera modules than the Galaxy A05. However, the overall camera layout with the placement of the flash module stays exactly the same. In fact, the texture on the back panel also appears to be very similar to the predecessor.

On the right side, the upcoming phone will have the same raised portion on the frame that houses the power button and the volume rocker similar to the Galaxy A15, Galaxy A35, and Galaxy A55. Samsung has named this design “Key Island”.

On the front, the render shows very similar bezels and water drop notch for the selfie camera as compared to its predecessor.

According to previous Geekbench listing, the Galaxy A06 will be equipped with a MediaTek Helio G85 chip, pre-installed with the One UI 6.1 skin based on Android 14. This is a 6nm-class chip designed for 4G smartphones. In terms of memory, the model will equip 4GB RAM. It’s important to note that 6GB RAM has become the mainstream choice in many markets.

This phone will offer 4G connectivity with support for dual-sim dual-standby. Surprisingly, it is the same chipset that powers the predecessor. It will be interesting to see if the phone brings any performance improvement. However, there are also rumors about the use of the Helio G99 for this phone.

The display is expected to be measured at 6.7″ and equip an HD+ LCD screen. Notably, this phone will reportedly come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 5000mAh battery. It will reportedly support the company’s traditional 15W charging technology. Although, it seems unlikely because the predecessor already supports a faster 25W charging.

Speaking of the other aspects, the predecessor also comes with a 6.7″ LCD display with the same 720p resolution. It equips the Helio G85 (12nm) chipset which is powered by the same 5000mAh battery.

Samsung confirms Galaxy S24 FE existence with support page listing

Rumors surrounding the Galaxy S24 FE have been circulating for some time, but concrete evidence has been elusive. That changes today with the unexpected appearance of a support page for the device on Samsung‘s official French website. While the listing provides minimal details, it serves as irrefutable confirmation of the phone’s existence.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Support Page

The support page references the model number SM-S721B, which is widely believed to correspond to the international variant of the Galaxy S24 FE. The discovery suggests that Samsung is nearing the launch of the device, though specific release dates remain unconfirmed.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Specifications (Expected)

According to previous reports, the Galaxy S24 FE will feature Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipset, putting it on par with the flagship Galaxy S24 and S24+. It is expected to run on Android 14 with the One UI 6.1.1 skin.

Design-wise, the Galaxy S24 FE is rumored to have a slimmer profile than its predecessor, along with a larger display. However, the phone’s dummy shows fairly noticeable bezels, with the chin bezel being particularly thick.

The dummy also reveals that the S24 FE, like the other phones in the S24 series, will have a flat side frame, unlike the slightly rounded frame of the S23 FE. Samsung is reportedly offering the device in four colors: Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Yellow.

Another widely circulated rumor is that the primary rear camera will feature a 50MP ISOCELL HP3 sensor and will be paired with a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. Both the main and telephoto lenses will support OIS. However, these details remain speculative until Samsung officially unveils the device.

The appearance of the support page suggests that the Galaxy S24 FE’s launch could be imminent. Given Samsung’s track record, an official announcement and release are likely to occur in the coming months.

HyperOS 2.0 could scan for hidden cameras, leaked UI hints

Xiaomi is reportedly preparing to launch HyperOS 2.0, the latest version of its Android-based operating system. While details about the new OS are scarce, XiaomiTime suggests it may include a feature to detect hidden cameras.

The rumored feature called “Camera Scan” is said to use wireless local-area network (WLAN) signals to identify hidden cameras nearby. A leaked screenshot shows a simple user interface with a one-tap scan option and the message, “Detect hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal safety.”

Although the technical specifics are not yet known, the technology is thought to use WLAN searches similar to the open-source Ingram program on GitHub.

HyperOS 2.0 is expected to launch sometime in October 2024, coinciding with the first anniversary of HyperOS 1.0’s introduction. In addition to the camera detection feature, the update is expected to improve device performance, enhance connectivity between Xiaomi devices, and offer more user customization options.

Xiaomi introduced HyperOS with its flagship Xiaomi 14 series in China last October, replacing the long-standing MIUI operating system. The OS reached the Indian market with the Poco X6 Pro in January 2024 and later rolled out to other devices like the Poco M4 Pro, C65, and M6 by Q2 this year.

If the rumored camera detection feature is implemented, it could set a new standard for privacy-focused functionalities in smartphone operating systems. This comes at a time when concerns about personal privacy and security are at an all-time high. However, it remains to be seen how effective this WLAN-based approach will be in real-world situations.

It’s important to note that the information above is based on leaks and rumors. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement from Xiaomi to confirm the exact features and functionalities of HyperOS 2.0.

Realme GT 7 Pro launch event may showcase 300W fast charging technology

Realme is reportedly working on the Realme G T 7 Pro, its next flagship phone, for the Chinese and global markets. Tipster Digital Chat Station has been consistently leaking details about the next-generation flagship. A new Weibo post by the tipster suggests that the company may showcase its 300W fast charging technology at the GT 7 Pro launch event.

Realme’s 300W charging technology set to launch soon

In the above screenshot, DCS is seen talking about a few key features of the GT 7 Pro. He also mentions that Realme may showcase the world’s first 300W fast charging technology. While the GT 7 Pro is the company’s next flagship, it will not have support for 300W fast charging.

In June, Realme Global Head of Marketing, Francis Wong, revealed in an interview that the company is currently testing its 300W rapid charging technology. However, he did not divulge any other information about it. It is said that Realme’s 300W charging tech can go from 0 to 50 percent in less than three minutes and a full charge in under five minutes. It remains to be seen whether the 300W charging technology will be showcased at the GT 7 Pro launch event or through a different event.

The Realme GT 7 Pro will be Realme’s first phone to offer IP69-level dust and water resistance. Also, it will be the company’s first phone to feature a single-point ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Previous reports have revealed that the GT 7 Pro will have a flat OLED panel with micro-curvature on all four sides. It will offer a 1.5K resolution and LTPO technology. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-powered device is expected to ship with up to 24 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of storage, a battery of around 6,000mAh capacity, and 100W charging. For photography, the device may feature a 50-megapixel main camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera with support for 3x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 120x digital zoom.

What to expect from Tecno’s second Flip Phone?

Tecno‘s foray into the foldable smartphone market with the Phantom V Flip was a promising start. The device offered a compelling package at a competitive price point, making foldable technology more accessible to a wider audience.

Now, the company is gearing up to launch its successor, the Phantom V2 Flip, which promises to build upon the strengths of its predecessor while introducing new features and refinements.

Leaked Render of Tecno Phantom V2 Flip

1. Design

The Phantom V2 Flip is expected to undergo a major upgrade with a significantly larger cover screen. Unlike the original V Flip’s circular display, which had limited functionality, the new model is rumored to feature a rectangular cover screen, similar to other clamshell foldables. This expanded display promises improved usability, offering more interactive widgets, notifications, and possibly even app functionality without the need to open the phone.

The overall design is expected to be refined, with a more premium build quality and a sleeker profile. The leaked image hints at a metal frame, which would contribute to a sturdy and luxurious feel.

As per leaks, the V2 Flip is expected to have dimensions of 170 x 74 x 8mm when unfolded and 85 x 74 x 16mm when folded.

2. Performance and Storage

The Phantom V2 Flip is expected to feature a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor, offering a slight upgrade from the Dimensity 8050 used in the original model. While these chipsets have minimal differences, the 8020 should still provide improved overall performance.

In terms of memory and storage, the Phantom V2 Flip is likely to offer configurations similar to its predecessor, with 8GB of RAM as a base option and 256GB of internal storage. However, there’s a possibility of higher storage variants to cater to users with extensive media libraries.

3. Camera

While detailed information about the camera setup is still limited, improvements over the original V Flip are anticipated. According to a leaked poster, the device will feature a dual-camera system on the cover display along with an LED Flash, with the primary sensor likely receiving upgrades in resolution and low-light performance. The addition of features like optical image stabilization (OIS) and larger sensor sizes could further enhance image quality. The device will also feature a front-facing camera.

4. Battery and Charging

The V2 Flip is expected to see an upgrade in its battery, increasing from the original 4000mAh to a larger 4590mAh capacity, offering longer usage. Additionally, faster charging speeds, potentially up to 70W, are anticipated for quicker recharging.

5. Pricing and Availability

Pricing is a crucial factor in the success of a foldable smartphone. While the original V Flip offered good value for money, Tecno will need to carefully consider the pricing of the V2 Flip to remain competitive. Given the expected hardware upgrades and design refinements, a slight price increase is possible.

The launch timeline for the Phantom V2 Flip is still shrouded in mystery. However, considering the recent leaks and certifications, a release in recent months seems plausible.
