Poco Buds X1 hands-on review: Balanced performance with effective noise cancellation

The Poco Buds X1 is an intriguing addition to the wireless earbud market, blending advanced features with a sleek design. In this review, I’ll share my views on the various aspects of the Poco Buds X1, including design, audio quality, noise cancellation, connectivity, battery life, and the overall user experience.

1. Design and Build

Poco Buds X1
Poco Buds X1

The Poco Buds X1 comes in a classic Titanium color, giving it a modern and premium look. The earbuds are compact weighing just 4.2 grams. This lightweight design ensures comfort during extended wear. The charging case, which holds the earbuds weighs around 38.5 grams with the earbuds inside.

The plastic build quality feels solid, and the earbuds fit snugly in the ear. The case is equally well-constructed, featuring a Type-C charging port for fast and efficient charging. It also features a physical button for Bluetooth pairing. There is a pill-shaped LED available on the front of the case. The IP54 rating means the earbuds are resistant to dust and water splashes, making them suitable for various environments and weather conditions.

2. Audio Quality and Noise Cancellation

Poco Buds X1
Poco Buds X1

One of the standout features of the Poco Buds X1 is its 12.4mm dynamic titanium drivers. These drivers deliver clear highs, deep bass, and well-defined mids. Being a budget-friendly offering, the Buds X1 support SBC and AAC codecs. While they may not offer the advanced audio features found in higher-end models, they deliver solid performance for everyday listening.

The POCO Buds X1 features Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) with a maximum reduction of 40dB. The experience of using ANC with these earbuds is generally positive. In Noise Cancellation mode, the earbuds effectively reduce ambient noise, allowing you to enjoy your music or podcasts without the interference of external sounds. This is particularly useful in noisy environments such as public transportation or busy streets.

Transparency mode, on the other hand, lets you hear your surroundings while still listening to audio. This is beneficial for situations where situational awareness is important, like when walking in an area with heavy traffic. Switching between ANC and Transparency modes is straightforward with the touch controls, though it might take a moment to adjust to the change in audio environment.

The Poco Buds X1 also excels in handling wind noise, thanks to the Dual Mic AI Noise Reduction and Xiaomi’s Anti-Wind Noise Algorithm. During outdoor use, the earbuds managed to minimize wind interference effectively. Even at moderate wind speeds of up to 6m/s, the call quality remained clear with minimal wind distortion. This feature enhances the usability of the earbuds in various weather conditions, ensuring that calls are intelligible, and your audio experience is not overly affected by wind noise.

3. Connectivity and Battery Life

Poco Buds X1
Poco Buds X1 rear view

The Poco Buds X1 uses Bluetooth 5.3, which provides a stable connection and efficient power usage. It supports Google Fast Pair, making it easy to connect them to compatible devices quickly. Apart from this, users can make use of the physical Bluetooth button for pairing.

The earbuds do not support dual device connection, which means you can only pair them with one device at a time. This limitation might be inconvenient for users who frequently switch between multiple devices.

The battery performance of the Poco Buds X1 is commendable. With ANC turned off and the volume set to 50% while using AAC, the earbuds can last up to 7 hours on a single charge. The charging case extends this to up to 36 hours of total playback time. When ANC is enabled, the earbuds provide up to 4.5 hours of playback, with the case offering up to 22 hours.

For phone calls, you can expect up to 4.5 hours of usage with ANC off and 3.5 hours with ANC on. The charging times are efficient, with the earbuds taking about 1 hour to charge fully and the case requiring around 2 hours. The fast charge feature is quite handy, providing up to 2 hours of usage with just a 10-minute charge.

4. Controls and App Support

Poco Buds X1
Poco Buds X1

The Poco Buds X1 lacks support for in-ear detection as it lacks the necessary sensors for it. Hence, users will rely have to rely on the touch controls for play / pause, which can be done by a double tap on the earbuds. A triple tap skips to the next song, and pressing and holding either earbud switches between ANC or Transparency modes. These controls are responsive and easy to use, although some users might find the touch sensitivity a bit too high or low depending on their preferences.

You can also pair the earbuds with the Xiaomi Earbuds App for additional customization. This app allows you to adjust touch controls and enable the voice assistant feature, which is useful for hands-free operations. The Audio Effects feature in the app allows users to access presets, such as Standard, Enhance Treble, Enhance Bass, Enhance Voice, and Custom (customizable equalizer) for an enriched audio experience

5. Verdict

Poco Buds X1
Poco Buds X1

The Poco Buds X1 offers a balanced combination of features, performance, and design. The audio quality is good, and the ANC performance is commendable for its price range. Therefore, the Buds X1 is a strong contender in the mid-range wireless earbud market. However, a notable gripe is the lack of in-ear detection. If you’re looking for a reliable pair of earbuds that provide good sound quality and effective noise cancellation without breaking the bank, the X1 is worth considering.

Apple is rolling out iOS 18 beta 5 with major improvements to web browsing & Photos app

Apple has finally released the iOS 18 beta 5 for developers with exciting new features that include improvements to Safari and Photos. iOS 18 beta 5 comes just a couple of weeks after the arrival of beta 4. The company is expected to release the stable version in mid-September.

iOS 18 now offers ‘Distraction Control’ to make web browsing more convenient

The iOS 18 beta 5 offers a new feature called ‘Distraction Control’, which aims to clean up distracting elements on web pages, such as login prompts or content overlays. It should help users better focus on the information they are looking for. To activate this feature, users can go to the Page Menu in the Smart Search field.

Upon tapping on ‘Hide distracting Items’ users will get the option to select the elements of a web page they would like to avoid. Users can also enter anything they have hidden by clicking the hide icon in the search field and tapping ‘Show Hidden Items’. This feature can be very helpful for certain use cases.

The Photos app has also undergone some significant changes

Another major improvement can be found on the Photos app. According to a report, the company has “heavily modified” the functionality of the Photos app in iOS 18. The Photos app now shows a new home view, with many customization options that allow users to re-organize Photos and give it a look they prefer.

Apple has obviously absorbed user feedback and made a number of adjustments to the photo app, including removing the carousel view to simplify the interface, displaying the “All Photos” area in a larger grid, and integrating the “Recently Saved” content into the “Recent Days” category. They have also worked on the placement of photo albums to make it more convenient for users with multiple albums.

Poco M6 Plus 5G review: A top contender for budget 5G smartphones

Poco recently unveiled its new offerings, including the Poco M6 Plus 5G and the Poco Buds X1, for the latter half of the year. Priced at Rs 12,999, the Poco M6 Plus positions itself as a solid entry-level 5G smartphone. With standout features like a large 120Hz LCD display, a capable Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, a robust battery, and a commendable camera system, this device aims to deliver substantial value for its price. Here’s an in-depth look at the Poco M6 Plus.

1. Design

Poco M6 Plus 5G
Poco M6 Plus 5G

In terms of the design, the Poco M6 Plus offers a glass back and a flat plastic frame. This combination provides a premium feel on a budget-friendly device. The dual-tone black model appears darker in the camera portion, which also includes the Poco branding, while the remaining portion of the phone has a slightly lighter shade. However, this design choice means the back is prone to fingerprint smudges, which might be a concern for some users.

In addition to the Graphite Black variant shown in this review, the Poco M6 Plus is also available in Misty Lavender and Ice Silver. Both colors also sport a dual-tone finish, adding to the phone’s aesthetic appeal.

On the top of the phone, you’ll find a 3.5mm audio jack and an IR blaster, though it lacks a noise-cancellation microphone. The right side features the volume rocker and the power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor. At the bottom, there’s a microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker, while the left side houses a SIM slot with a hybrid SIM setup for microSD card expansion.

The Poco M6 Plus offers IP54 water resistance, which means it is protected against dust and splashes of water from any direction. This level of protection adds a layer of durability, making the device more resilient to accidental spills or splashes. Additionally, the display is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass 3.

The M6 Pus has a thickness of 8.3mm and weighs 205 grams. Its retail package includes the handset, the 33W charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a SIM ejector tool, a quick start guide, a warranty card, and a protective case.

2. Display

Poco M6 Plus 5G
Poco M6 Plus 5G

The Poco M6 Plus sports a massive 6.79-inch LCD with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 2460 x 1080 pixels. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and responsiveness. The peak brightness of 550 nits makes the display usable under direct sunlight, though it’s not the brightest in its class.

The display supports Widevine L1 but lacks HDR support, which could be a downside for media consumption enthusiasts. Due to its large size, the phone might not be ideal for users who prefer one-handed operation or have smaller hands.

3. Performance and Software

Poco M6 Plus 5G
Poco M6 Plus 5G

Under the hood, the Poco M6 Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. For those needing additional storage, the phone supports microSD expansion via a hybrid SIM slot. There’s also support for up to 4 GB of virtual RAM.

In everyday use, the Poco M6 Plus performs smoothly, handling multitasking and routine tasks efficiently. However, it’s not built for high-end gaming. Games like Call of Duty Mobile, PUBG, and Genshin Impact can be played comfortably in medium settings, thanks to the chipset’s capability.

The Poco M6 Plus comes preloaded with Android 14, running on the HyperOS interface. The phone includes the June 2024 security patch and is promised to receive 2 major Android OS upgrades along with 4 years of security updates. However, users might find the device preloaded with several apps, many of which can be uninstalled if desired.

The Poco M6 Plus is equipped with a substantial 5,030mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging. Charging the battery from 0% to 100% takes approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes. With normal usage, the phone easily lasts a full day on a single charge, making it a reliable option for users who need long-lasting battery performance. Here is how the M6 Plus performed on the benchmarks apps.

4. Cameras and Other Features

1x

The Poco M6 Plus features a 13-megapixel front camera, which performs adequately for selfies and portrait shots in bright conditions. However, its performance diminishes in low light. The front camera supports HDR, filters, and beautifying features, making it suitable for social media-ready photos.

On the rear, the phone houses a 108-megapixel Samsung S5KHM6 primary camera and a 2-megapixel GalaxyCore macro sensor. The primary camera supports 3x in-sensor zoom and delivers sharp photos with decent colour accuracy and good dynamic range in well-lit conditions. Portrait shots exhibit good edge detection and colour reproduction, though zoom capabilities are limited. Both the front and rear cameras can record video at up to 30fps in Full HD resolution.

One notable feature of the Poco M6 Plus is the inclusion of an IR blaster, which allows the phone to function as a remote control for various home appliances. While the phone supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, it lacks support for NFC. Well, not every other phone in this price range has support for NFC connectivity.

5. Verdict

Poco M6 Plus 5G
Poco M6 Plus 5G

The Poco M6 Plus offers impressive value for its price, starting at Rs 12,999. With its 120Hz display, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, and long-lasting 5,030mAh battery, it delivers solid performance and a smooth user experience. The 108-megapixel primary camera is also a good addition to the device. While it may not be ideal for high-end gaming and lacks stereo output, the Poco M6 Plus is a strong contender for those seeking a reliable and budget-friendly 5G smartphone.

Poco M6 Plus price in India

The Poco M6 Plus comes in two options, such as 6G+128GB and 8GB+128GB. These variants are priced at Rs 12,999 and Rs 14,499, respectively. As with other Poco devices, the M6 Plus is available for purchase via Flipkart in India. In this price range, it competes with devices like the HMD Crest, Oppo K12x, Moto G64, Vivo T3x, Redmi 13 5G, and iQOO Z9x.

Exclusive: Samsung is making a significant change to the Galaxy Tab S10 series, the regular Tab S10 model is no more

Looks like Samsung’s plans for the upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 series will be a little different.  Samsung does not plan to launch a regular Tab S10 model in the Galaxy Tab S10 series. Gizmochina has revealed details about Samsung’s new Tab S10 series devices. As a result, the presence of the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is clearly visible. At the same time, the conspicuous disappearance of the regular Tab S10 model suggests that there have been some changes. This indicates that Samsung has given up on the regular Tab S10.

The Galaxy Tab S10 series will include two models: Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra.

For a long time, there were rumors that the Tab S10 series would not be the regular Tab S10. Our IMEI Database has long contained 2 different Galaxy Tab S10 series models. These are the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and Tab S10 Ultra models. Although nearly 6 months have passed, the regular Galaxy Tab S10 has still not been added to the database. This is an official confirmation that the Galaxy Tab S10 will not be introduced.

According to our IMEI Database, we are absolutely sure that the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra exist. The Galaxy Tab S10+ has 3 different model numbers. These are devices prepared according to regulations in different regions: SM-X826B, SM-X826N, SM-X828U. Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra also comes with 3 different model numbers: SM-X926B, SM-X926C and SM-X926N. We obtained these model numbers from our IMEI Database, so keep in mind that these are LTE model numbers with SIM card support.

SM-X820 and SM-X920 model numbers refer to the Wi-Fi version of the devices. There is no SIM card support in these models. We found the specified model numbers by checking the Samsung OTA server. However, neither the Samsung OTA server nor our IMEI Database has any information for the regular Galaxy Tab S10. Galaxy Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra received more than 7 One UI tests. Despite this, the regular Tab S10 did not receive even 1 test. We can attribute all these coincidences to the fact that this model will not be released for sure.

Why Samsung Won’t Release the Galaxy Tab S10

Samsung launched the Ultra series for the first time in its tablet history in the Tab S8 series. They continued this tradition in the Tab S9 series. Maybe the fact that the regular model of these tablets was not popular may be the reason for not releasing the regular Tab S10. Apart from that, Apple’s release of two models like the iPad Pro may have also influenced Samsung in this decision. There is almost no difference between the regular model and the Plus model other than the screen size. That’s why they may find it unnecessary to have an extra model.

Expected Features and Launch Date

According to the processor performance results revealed via Geekbench, Galaxy Tab S10 + and Tab S10 Ultra models will be powered by the Dimensity 9300 processor. When we look at the Geekbench scores; Tab S10 Ultra scored 2070 points in single-core and 6927 points in multi-core. Tab S10 Plus received 2163 points in single-core and 7186 points in multi-core. Since the processors are the same, it is normal for these scores to be close to each other.

In terms of storage and RAM, the devices will be equipped in the same way as the Tab S9 series. Tab S10 Ultra is expected to come with 12GB/16GB RAM and 512GB/1TB Storage options. Tab S10 Plus will come with 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB Storage options. These devices are expected to have almost the same design as the Tab S9 series.

Unfortunately, there is no official information about the launch date. However, according to some leaks, the new Tab S10 series is expected to be introduced in a few months.

Notably, the TV is already available in 55″ / 65″ / 75″ sizes, which went on sale earlier this year priced at 2,499 yuan (~$351), 2,999 yuan (~$422), and 3,999 yuan (~$563) respectively.

Just like the smaller models, the 85″ model also comes with 1.5mm ultra-narrow bezels and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 98%.

The 4K Super Screen Mirroring feature enables ‘ultra-clear, ultra-fast, ultra-stable’ multi-application screen projection, with up to 4K resolution. According to the company, the screen mirroring functionality supports a maximum frame rate of 50fps and continuous 3 hours without lag. The method of activating the feature is also convenient. Users just have to touch the phone to the remote, and the content will be instantly mirrored on the big screen.

According to Huawei, this TV equips an HDR enhancement technology, which makes bright areas transparent without overexposure, and dark areas clear with details. “It can also show the crystal clearness, the mysterious depth of the deep sea, and other light and dark expressions more outstandingly.”

The system reportedly runs on a self-developed chipset that supports 4K 120FPS decoding. The TV also offers an upgraded HDMI 2.1 interface that enables automatic low latency, variable refresh rate (VRR), and 4K 120Hz video input.

The new generation AI camera supports intelligent functions such as smooth video calls, real-time portrait tracking, children’s sitting posture detection, distance reminders, and “AR Fun”. This is a 1080p camera that comes with a f/2.2 large aperture. The portrait tracking feature helps you stay in the frame while you move around during a video call.

The phone is powered by Dimensity 9400 chip and doesn’t support satellite connectivity

According to Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, the phone does not support satellite connectivity but is expected to come with an improved “screen form”, a high-density battery, and an improved imaging system. The tipster also notes that the phone will be powered by the Dimensity 9400 chipset.

According to previous rumors, the vivo X200 series will consist of three models – possibly vivo X200, X200 Pro, and vivo X200 Ultra. The first two models are said to equip the Dimensity 9400. The Ultra model could be released later with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. This (if true) will be in line with the vivo X100 series. For those unfamiliar, the vivo launched the X100 Ultra in May this year, while the standard and Pro models were launched in November last year. There are also rumors about the company coming up with a smaller variant, possibly called the Vivo X200 mini, which will boast a 6.3x” 1.5K display and a 5,500 mAh battery. To know more about the compact option from the series, click here.

Speaking of performance the Dimensity 9400 chip (that will reportedly power the vivo X200, X200 Pro, and the X200 mini) is fabricated using TSMC’s second-generation N3 process. According to a GeekBench listing, the prime core offers 36% higher peak performance. It will be paired with the new Cortex-A725 and Cortex-A520 cores. Arm claims that the performance efficiency of Cortex-A725 is 35% higher than that of the previous generation A720, and the energy efficiency of Cortex-A520 has also increased by 15%.

To give you an idea of what to expect in terms of display, the standard and Pro version of the vivo X100 series, the vivo X100 and X100 Pro, packs a 6.78-inch micro-curved 8T LTPO panel with a resolution of 2800×1260 pixels. The Ultra model boasts the same-sized panel that has a higher resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels. All the models of the predecessor support 3000 nits of peak brightness.

POCO M6 Plus 5G vs Redmi 13 5G: Design & Display

The Chinese tech giant’s Redmi 13 5G is a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 13R. Similarly, the POCO M6 Plus 6G is also a renamed version of the same smartphone model. So, there are a lot more similarities than differences, but they aren’t identical. Display is one such area with minor changes. Both models sport a 6.79-inch LCD display that offers a FHD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 550 nits of peak brightness.

However, the Redmi 13 5G has an IPS panel with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection over the Corning Gorilla Glass panel on the POCO M6 Plus 5G. These slight variations are also reflected in the design. From the front, the POCO and Redmi phones are carbon copies of each other. Meanwhile, the rear has similar camera sensor placements, but the back panel has a dual tone finish on the POCO M6 Plus 5G. It comes in Misty Lavender, Ice Silver, and Graphite Black color options. On the Redmi 13 5G, users a single color hue in Black Diamond, Hawaiian Blue, and Moonstone Silver variants.

Specs

Looking at the specs sheet, the Chinese brand has equipped both devices with specs that are also nearly identical. Under the hood, the two phones pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE SoC that is coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A large 5,030mAh battery pack powers the Redmi 13 5G and POCO M6 Plus 5G, which supports 33W wired fast charging. Out of the box, the two phones run on the Android 14 OS based HyperOS custom skin.

For optics, users get a 108-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel depth lens on the rear, while the front houses a 13-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. Other similar specs include an IP53 rating for water and dust resistance, a side mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSDXC card slot for storage expansion. Another slight difference is between the Bluetooth standard. POCO offers Bluetooth 5.0, while the Redmi model features Bluetooth 5.3.

Pricing and Verdict

Xiaomi released the Redmi 13 5G has a starting price tag of 13,999 INR (roughly 166 US Dollars) for the base 6GB + 128GB variant. Owing to the slight trims in the specs, the POCO M6 Plus 5G is more affordable with a 12,999 INR (roughly 155 US Dollars) starting price tag. The POCO phone just went on sale earlier today with a 1,000 INR instant discount, so it is a better deal at the moment.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 makes its first Geekbench appearance, performs better than A17 Pro in multi-core test

Qualcomm has already confirmed that its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor will launch in October. While we’ve previously only heard about its performance through various leaks and reports, things are changing now.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has finally made its entry on the Geekbench platform. Although this listing is likely not from the final production version of the chip—as it’s labeled as a “Manufacturer Model”—the scores suggest the SoC will deliver strong single-core and multi-core performance.

In the benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 2884 points in the single-core test, putting it close to Apple’s A17 Pro, which scores around 2915 points on average.

However, it’s the multi-core performance that truly stands out. The SoC scored 8840 points in the multi-core test — well above the A17 Pro’s average score of about 7,300 points. [ Note: The average single and multi-core score of A17 Pro are taken from NoteBookCheck.]

As we know, Qualcomm is adopting a new architecture for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Instead of the standard Arm cores, the chip will use a custom Oryon CPU design, similar to what Qualcomm used in the Snapdragon X-series for PCs.

This shift in core design is expected to offer a significant performance boost and early Geekbench results are already showing signs of this improvement.

The benchmark also reveals details about the core architecture of the Snapdragon 8 Gen4. The SoC features an octa-core structure with six base cores and two high-performance cores. The base cores are clocked at 2.78GHz, while the performance cores run at an impressive 4.09GHz.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is set to be the top Android SoC in 2025, its advancements will come at a cost. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be 25-30% more expensive compared to the current flagship, the 8 Gen 3. This increased chip cost will inevitably lead to higher prices for flagship smartphones in 2025.

HONOR Magic V Flip Review: 4″ Huge External Screen

I’ve used a lot of FLIP PHONES before this, but my opinion of FLIP PHONES has always been somewhat negative. I probably unlock my phone hundreds of times a day, and most of the time just to reply a message or check news/notifications, but getting these things done on a ‘small’ screen are awkward.

In fact, FLIP Phone puts the look first and practicality second. But this time, Honor obviously doesn’t approach it the same way, on the first Honor Flip phone, Honor magic V Filp, which has a huge 4-inch screen and 4800mAh battery, we saw something thoughtful.

Unbox

Back to the unboxing, the magic V Filp comes in a white box which contains a 66W charger with an A to C cable, and a case. Since we purchased the pink version, the case is in the same color scheme.

Design

When I first got my hands on the phone, the thing that caught my attention the most was the small screen, which, as you can see, takes up almost half of the space on the back of the phone. It’s actually a 4 inch screen, it’s almost the same size as the iPhone 5.

so it’s very practical compared to some of the tiny screens on other Flip Phones, and the App experience that have been optimized are really good, such as chinese tiktok . When watching videos, the screen ratio is close to 16:9, which is very practical.

When I need a bigger screen, I unfold the phone and the app automatically switches to the main screen, so experience is seamless.

Using social media apps isn’t too difficult on this small screen, and most of the times I don’t have to use the main screen, this 4-inch screen helps me with 90% of the scenarios.

Unfortunately, the external screen currently does not support some third-party apps yet. But we do find Honor has kept adding new apps into the supported list since it was released. for all the pre-installed system apps, the basic features are presented smoothly and pleasantly on this ‘big’ display.

In terms of looks, we got the pink version, which has a smooth plastic casing with a linear textured interior design, I personally like this design. Of course, to make this small screen unified, the magic V Filp put the flash at a unique place, at the other side.

In terms of thickness, the magic V Filp is thinner than most phones when unfolded, comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, but unlike Samsung’s 3,700mAh battery, the magic V Filp has a 4,800mAh battery, which is why I like this phone.

Going back to the front of the phone, it has a very good crease control, it’s hard to notice in normal use, I took some videos from different angles, you can check it out closely.

The magic V Filp’s hinge doesn’t support stabilization at any angle, it can not stand still when the angle is too large and too small, but I don’t think it affects the use at all.

It is worth noting that the main screen of magic V Filp is 21:9 which looks more elegant. so, in my opinion the design of magic V Filp is excellent this time.

Screen

This 4″ outer screen supports 0.1-120hz LTPO and has good brightness and clarity at the same time. In terms of dimming, 2160hz PWM dimming in low brightness , DC dimming in medium and high brightness. For a small screen, it is obviously good enough.

The “big” screen has 1080P resolution, and a rare 850nit high manual brightness. Like many Honor phones, the Magic V Filp also supports 3840Hz PWM dimming at low brightness, with Honor’s exclusive eye protection technology. so I’d give this screen a high score.

Performance

Surprisingly, this phone uses a chip from 2022 – the 8+ Gen1, and it’s worth noting that it is a downclocked version, which is slightly lower in frequency than the standard version.

But I don’t have any complaints about the performance, the 8+ Gen1 is good enough for everyday use. I mean even with the latest flagship chips, it’s hard to get the best performance out of a filp phone, and chances are that users of a filp phone won’t be running heavy games.

I have also tested the gaming performance of this phone and you can see that even without taking other reasons into account, the heat dissipation area of the Filp phone is only half that of a normal phone.

Camera

The magic V Filp uses a combination of main camera + ultrawide camera, the ultrawide camera also supports macro shooting.

I took some samples and it has good detail and HDR effects, and the dispersion control is very good even in scenes with high contrast lighting.

Selfies are outstanding because you can use this main Camera. The only complaint I have about it is that, the camera looks emm… a little strange due to the camera position.

The only way to get a normal photo is when you turn the phone upside down to take a picture. Of course this isn’t a problem, it just takes some time to get used to it.

Battery & Charging

The magic V Filp has a big 4800mAh battery placed inside the 195g body. In the battery test, I tested it using the MAIN SCREEN and I was a bit surprised with the results.

It also supports 66W charging and it takes about 50 minutes to fully charge the battery. so if you are looking at only the battery and charging, the magic V Filp has no competitors.

Conclusion

As you can see, Honor really put some thoughts into this FLIP PHONE, with a more useful small screen, bigger battery, and better eye protection. But for me, if I had to choose a flip phone to use right now, I’d definitely go for the Magic V Filp.
