Upcoming Honor Magic V3 case leaked with real life images

We shared the leaked specs of Honor Magic V3 with you. Now, the back cover of the upcoming Honor Magic V3 has surfaced online. In an interview in China, Honor‘s CEO Ming Zhao showcased an accessory designed for the Honor Magic V3. Although the video on Weibo doesn’t fully detail the design of the Magic V3, it does reveal a new case designed for the upcoming foldable device.

If the rumors come true, we expect the Magic V3 to be a very powerful foldable phone. Despite being a foldable device, it boasts a folded thickness of 9.7mm. For comparison, Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a thickness of 9.2mm. While the Magic V3 may not have the fancy camera specs of the 14 Ultra, a 9.7mm thickness for a foldable device is impressive. Additionally, the phone is expected to come with a 5200 mAh battery.

The back cover of the Magic V3 features Honor’s new circular camera array design. The new case appears to cover the camera and may function as a stand, although its full features are still unclear. You can check out the video shared on Weibo via the provided link.

Kirin 9100 to surpass Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in terms of performance, claims tipster

Huawei is expected to unveil a new Kirin chipset, the Kirin 9100, later this year. This chip is rumored to power the upcoming Mate 70 series which will also be the first Huawei phone to come pre-installed with HarmonyOS NEXT.

There are rumors that the Kirin 9100 could mark a significant performance leap for the Chinese tech giant. However, there are doubts about this since Huawei and its chip manufacturer, SMIC, lack the latest chip manufacturing infrastructure due to the US trade ban.

As a result, Kirin chips have so far struggled to compete with offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. The Kirin 9100, however, might be different. A fresh new rumor suggests it could outperform Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

The news comes from an X tipster, jasonwill, who seems confident that the upcoming Kirin chip will surpass the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. If Huawei’s next-gen Kirin SoC is indeed faster, this would be a monumental gain compared to the current-best Kirin 9010, which struggles to compete even with mid-range chips like the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.

Additionally, the tipster claims that the Kirin 9100’s performance could lead to an improved user experience, even if its on-paper specifications “may not match those of the 8gen3”.

How could Huawei achieve this? The answer likely lies in software optimization. Huawei is expected to launch HarmonyOS NEXT alongside the Kirin 9100, completely severing ties with Google’s Android platform.

According to Huawei, HarmonyOS NEXT is three times more efficient in memory utilization compared to Android. This translates to smoother UI performance on Huawei devices, even those powered by older Kirin chipsets.

Another factor is the Kirin 9100’s manufacturing process. The chip will reportedly be mass-produced using SMIC’s 5nm node. While this technology isn’t the most cutting-edge, it should still offer improved performance and power efficiency compared to previous Kirin chipsets.

While it would be exciting to see Huawei’s upcoming chip match the performance of its competitors, it’s wise to remain skeptical as this leap forward seems almost too good to be true for Huawei to achieve in one go.

HMD scraps “Arrow” name for its first smartphone in India

HMD Global, the company behind Nokia-branded phones, was gearing up to launch its first phone under its own brand name in India – the HMD Arrow. However, in a recent social media announcement on X (formerly Twitter), the company revealed that the “Arrow” moniker has run into legal hurdles in India, forcing the company to change it.

Despite the setback, the brand has confirmed that the new name of HMD’s first smartphone in India will be revealed in just a few days. The name change process, however, might delay the launch of the phone in the country.

FYI, HMD chose the name Arrow for the upcoming phone via a user contest on X (formerly Twitter). The winners whose name suggestions were selected are set to receive prizes. HMD has also clarified that the contest entries are still valid, and they will announce five winners who will receive the prizes.

Possible Rebrand of HMD Pulse

While the name changes, rumors suggest the phone itself might be a rebranded version of the existing HMD Pulse

So to recap, the Pulse features a 6.65” LCD with a 720p+ resolution (20:9) and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a Unisoc T606 processor, paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and has 64GB of storage, expandable by up to 256GB via a microSD card.

The phone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and comes with Android 14 out of the box. HMD Global has promised two years of OS updates and three years of security patches for the Pulse.

While the wait for HMD’s first phone in India may extend a bit longer, the core features could remain consistent with the HMD Pulse if the rebranding theory proves accurate.

With Guoxin New Materials’ Potassium-ion Battery, Electric Bikes can go up to 150km on a Single Charge

Anhui Guoxin New Materials Co., Ltd. has announced the world’s first commercially available potassium-ion battery product, specifically designed for two-wheeled electric vehicles. This innovation has the potential to reshape the e-bike industry.

Potassium-ion batteries are environmentally friendly, while also being cheaper

The new potassium-ion battery pack boasts an impressive energy density of 151 Wh/kg, translating to a cruising range of 130-150 kilometers on a single charge. This is a significant leap compared to commonly used lead-acid batteries, which typically offer a range of around 50 kilometers. Remarkably, despite the extended range, production costs for potassium-ion batteries are comparable to lead-acid batteries.

Beyond offering more range without breaking the bank, potassium-ion batteries boast environmental benefits as well. They are comprised mostly of non-toxic and reusable materials, leading to considerably less pollution compared to lead-acid batteries when they reach the end of their lifespan.

Anhui Guoxin has successfully conducted road tests on their new battery packs with popular e-bike brands Yadi and Lujia, and user feedback has been positive. The company is optimistic about the future, anticipating mass production of key electrode materials, battery cells, and entire energy storage systems for potassium-ion batteries by the end of 2024. This could be a game-changer for the electric vehicle industry, particularly for two-wheeled vehicles, ushering in an era of longer range, eco-friendly e-bikes.

Motorola Edge 50 Indian launch imminent, clears BIS certification

Motorola‘s Edge lineup appears to be getting a new member – the vanilla Edge 50. This phone is expected to be the successor to the Edge 40 launched in May 2023. The upcoming device was recently spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website, hinting at an imminent launch in India.

While the BIS listing reveals the model number (XT2407-3) for the Edge 50, it offers no details regarding the phone’s specifications. Nonetheless, its presence on the BIS website suggests that a launch in the Indian market could be on the horizon.

Motorola Edge 50 BIS Certification

This isn’t the first time the Edge 50 has been spotted online. The phone has previously appeared on certification websites like TDRA (UAE), FCC (US), and EEC (Russia). The UAE’s TDRA website confirmed the device’s moniker, while the FCC listing has revealed some specifications of the phone.

Based on the data available on the FCC website, the Edge 50 is expected to feature a 5,000mAh battery and will support 68W fast charging. It’s a significant upgrade from the Edge 40, which had a 4,400mAh battery.

The FCC listing also suggests that the Edge 50 will include NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6, GPS, and 5G connectivity. However, the EEC website listing for the Edge 50 currently lacks any detailed specifications.

Motorola Edge 40

While specific details about the phone’s specifications are limited, a report earlier this week revealed that it will be priced at 599 EUR in Europe. For this price, buyers can expect 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Additionally, the phone will be available in green, peach, and grey color options.

With its increasing presence in certifications, it seems likely that the Motorola Edge 50 will launch soon. We will continue to provide updates on any new developments regarding this smartphone.

CMF Buds Pro 2 Launched Globally, Featuring Noise-cancellation, Smart Knob Charging Case, Starting at 430 Yuan ($59)

Nothing‘s sub-brand CMF has also unveiled new true wireless noise-cancelling headphones, the CMF Buds Pro 2. This time around, they’re launching globally, targeting the United States, United Kingdom, India, and Europe. The design retains the color options of orange, dark gray, and light gray from the first generation, but adds a new vibrant blue option. More importantly, the Pro version finally gets the smart knob charging case that the standard CMF Buds had last year.

Users have the option of disabling the knob controls if they want

The lightweight case features a rotating knob for volume control, with the ability to customize functions like noise cancellation mode, music playback, and song navigation. It can also activate the voice assistant, answer/end calls, mute the microphone, and toggle low latency mode. Users have the option to permanently disable the knob to prevent accidental touches, and all settings can be managed through the Nothing X app.

The CMF Buds Pro 2 boasts a dual-unit system with an 11mm woofer and a 6mm tweeter. These headphones support hybrid active noise cancellation and transparency mode, and are Hi-Res Audio certified with spatial audio capabilities. Bass performance can be further personalized through the Nothing X app. For crystal-clear calls, each earbud comes equipped with three microphones and Nothing’s Clear Voice Technology 2.0 for call noise reduction.

Battery life is impressive, with 60mAh batteries in each earbud and a 460mAh battery in the charging case. Official figures show talk time ranging from 18.6 hours to 25 hours (with charging case) depending on noise cancellation settings and audio encoding. Playback time varies as well, offering up to 43 hours (with charging case) with noise cancellation off and AAC encoding. Fast charging provides 3 hours of listening time (noise cancellation off) with just a 10-minute charge, extending to 7 hours with the charging case. With noise cancellation on, those numbers drop to 1.8 hours and 6 hours respectively.

The CMF Buds Pro 2 are positioned as a cost-effective option in the true wireless noise-cancelling headphone market. They’ll be available later this month through the official website (cmf.tech) and other retailers, with a price tag of US$59 (around 430 Yuan) in the US market.

Huawei tri-folding phone to have dual hinge and 10-inch screen that folds inward and outward

We’ve all heard the rumors – Huawei‘s working on a triple-folding phone. Now, thanks to prolific industry tipsters Digital Chat Station and Ice Universe, we have some fresh details about the device.

Digital Chat Station in a recent Weibo post revealed that Huawei’s triple-folding phone — reportedly the world’s first — has an innovative “inner folding + outer folding” design with a double hinge.

Such a design would not allow you to fold the phone inwards (like the current foldable) but also outwards. The combined screen size is estimated to be around 10 inches, and the leak suggests that crease control—a major issue with foldables—might be well-controlled on this device.

The post further says the phone has “far-leading new technologies” and mentions there is a lack of “competitors,” a bold statement considering Samsung’s dominance in the foldable market.

Another tipster, Ice Universe, corroborates this claim and says Huawei will be the first to launch a triple-folding phone. The tipster specifically targets Samsung suggesting their technology “has fallen far behind” and they are still struggling with basic foldable designs.

“One of the prerequisites for triple folding is that it must be thin enough, which is Huawei’s strength,” Ice Universe says and adds “This is also the weakness of Samsung.”

Huawei’s pursuit of a triple-folding phone has been a long one. They started filing patents for this tech back in 2021, with more filings in 2022. Another patent filed in February 2023 shows a triple-folding phone with two hinges and a flexible screen that folds outwards — like the one mentioned by Digital Chat Station.

It’s important to note that this information comes from unofficial sources, and Huawei has yet to confirm these developments. However, considering Huawei’s patent filing and the credibility of these tech insiders, the rumors carry substantial weight. We will keep you in the loop on any new developments about Huaewi’s tri-folding phone.

Google Pixel Watch 3 spotted on FCC; will support UWB

Google launched the Pixel Watch 2 back in October last year and the Pixel Watch 3 will launch on August 13th.

Ahead of the launch, the upcoming watch from Google has now been spotted on the FCC listing, which reveals some key information about the product.

Unlike the predecessors, the Pixel Watch 3 series will come with two different models – the Pixel Watch 3 and a Pixel Watch 3 XL.

FCC listing reveals a total of four Pixel Watch 3 models

The FCC listing reveals a total of four model numbers – GBDU9, GGE4J, GG3HH, and GRY0E. These could represent the 41mm and 45mm variants of the Watch 3. According to the following, the GBDU9 and GRY0E model numbers will offer LTE and UWB connectivity. The watches will also offer Bluetooth, NFC, and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity. The other two variants of the Pixel Watch 3 will only offer UWB, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC, but no LTE connectivity. According to a report, all four models will offer GPS support.

OnLeaks has previously shared the renders of the Watch 3 revealing its design. The render shows a design that is very similar to the predecessor. The watch 3 will offer the same circular bezel-less display with a rotating crown on the side. The device is expected to equip a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, which is also the same as its predecessor. The device will likely be available in Black color with a matching strap. However, there could be additional color options.

According to previous leaks, the Watch 3 will be slightly thicker than the Pixel Watch 2. Notably, the battery capacity is expected to be 307 mAh, which is only slightly larger than the 304 mAh capacity of the Pixel Watch 2.

Apple will reportedly ditch iPhone 17 Plus for a ‘Slim’ model

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 16 series in September this year. However, the successor of the series has already entered the rumor mill. The rumor claims that Apple will ditch the ‘Plus’ model for a ‘Slim’ one starting with the iPhone 17 series.

The ‘Slim’ model is expected to reduce the gap between the non-Pro and Pro models

According to a report, Apple has introduced some ‘bold innovations’ when it comes to the appearance of the iPhone 17 Slim. The model will reportedly be thinner and lighter as compared to the current models. Apple will use aluminum for the chassis. The camera island will be placed horizontally, reportedly resembling the design of the Pixel 8 series. However, Apple has recently reverted to vertical camera placement to support Spatial Video, and it is unclear if this feature can still function with a horizontal camera layout.

On the front, the device will include a narrower Dynamic Island, possibly due to the company’s adoption of a more compact “metalens” for the Face ID sensor. The design of the iPhone 17 Slim has reportedly been described to be similar to the iPhone X.

The ‘Slim’ model will adopt a 6.55-inch screen on the front. It is expected to fill the gap between the non-Pro and Pro models. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. In addition, it was revealed that the iPhone 17 Slim will also support 120Hz high refresh rate. Notably, this will be the first non-Pro model in the history of the iPhone to support a high refresh rate. The base model of the iPhone 17 series could also get a 120Hz refresh rate.

While the models will be able to offer a higher refresh rate, it will also be adaptive like the Pro models, meaning the phone will automatically adjust the refresh rate based on the content displayed on the screen.
