Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim to have bigger screen than the standard Z Fold 6

Samsung‘s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10th is set to unveil the latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, there’s also rumors about a slimmer, higher-end variant of the Fold 6. While that device won’t be making an appearance next week, a new report suggests it’s not entirely out of the picture.

According to TheElec, Samsung is indeed working on a slimmer version of the Z Fold 6, featuring larger screens. The report claims the phone will boast a 6.5-inch cover display and an expansive 8-inch internal screen –  up from the standard Z Fold 6’s rumored 6.3-inch and 7.6-inch displays respectively.

This slimmer Z Fold 6 is reportedly scheduled for a fourth-quarter 2024 launch, with a limited production run of 400,000 to 500,000 units. Availability will also be restricted, with China being one of the few rumored markets.

Samsung’s goal appears to be demonstrating the ability to create a thinner foldable phone compared to its current models. However, achieving this slimmer profile has reportedly come at the cost of S Pen support, as the digitizer needed for stylus functionality has been omitted.

TheElec’s report also mentions higher-end specs for this variant, but specifics remain undisclosed. Earlier rumors suggested a possible camera upgrade for the slimmer Z Fold 6 compared to the standard Fold 6. However, the report does not confirm this.

A source within Samsung’s supply chain indicates that development for the slimmer Z Fold 6 began in Q1 2024. Considering Samsung’s typical year-long development cycle for high-end phones, a delayed launch compared to the standard Z Fold 6 aligns with this information.

With larger screens and potentially more powerful specs, the slimmer Z Fold 6 is expected to carry a higher price tag than its standard counterpart. Samsung’s strategy seems to target a premium foldable experience for a select market, while the standard Z Fold 6 caters to a broader audience.

Two Xiaomi Bluetooth speakers with HyperOS Connect, RGB light, and 360° sound launched globally

Xiaomi has quietly added two Bluetooth speakers to its global website. Dubbed the Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker and Bluetooth Speaker Mini, they were previously available only for purchase in China.

Although the speakers are listed on the official site, specific pricing details remain under wraps. However, you can estimate their prices based on their Chinese counterparts.

In China, the larger Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker is priced at approximately $80, while the Bluetooth Speaker Mini is priced at around $30. Here’s a look at what each speaker offers for its respective price point.

Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker

The larger Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker boasts 40W of power and boasts a 360-degree sound experience with a maximum volume of 93 dB. It achieves this through a combination of two tweeters, a mid-frequency driver, and dual passive radiators.

The speaker boasts an IP67 water resistance rating, making it suitable for poolside or beach use. It also supports HyperOS Connect for multi-device pairing and stereo playback, with customizable RGB lighting adding a touch of flair. The speaker has a run-time of up to 17 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker Mini

The Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker Mini offers a more compact and portable option. Roughly half the size and weight of its larger sibling, the Mini comes in at around 10 x 7 x 7 cm and weighs just 330g.

It utilizes two full-range speakers and a passive radiator to deliver 360° omnidirectional sound output. The battery life is a more modest 8 hours. However, it retains many of the other features, including Bluetooth connectivity, HyperOS Connect, and IP67 dust and water resistance. There’s also ambient RGB lighting on the top for asthetics.

For those impatient for Xiaomi’s official launch, the company’s existing offerings, like the Xiaomi Mi Portable Bluetooth Speaker, are still available through retailers like Amazon.

These existing models might offer a comparable alternative until Xiaomi officially unveils its latest Bluetooth speaker lineup for the global market.

New leaks reveal that the Honor Magic V3 has a 5,200mAh battery, which is 200mAh larger than the Magic V2. Surprisingly, the brand has managed to reduce the thickness of the Magic V3 to 9.7mm despite packing a larger battery. Additionally, the V3 weighs only 226 grams.

Speaking of design, it’s official that the Magic V3 will come in four colors: black, brown, white, and green. The device boasts a metal frame for durability and an IPX8 rating for water resistance.

The rear camera setup of the Honor Magic V3 includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS support. Uncertainty surrounds its ultrawide lens, but rumors suggest it boasts a periscope telephoto camera with a 3.5x optical zoom.

The Magic V3’s large battery is reportedly capable of 66W fast charging and wireless charging. Under the hood, the foldable phone will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. New leaks have revealed additional features such as an x-axis linear motor and support for satellite communication.

CMF Phone 1 Indian price leaks ahead of July 8 launch

The CMF Phone 1 from Nothing is set to launch tomorrow, July 8. Over the past week, the company has been gradually revealing the phone’s specifications. The only missing detail was the price, which has now been disclosed through a Flipkart advertisement.

A mini banner advertisement on YouTube run by Flipkart was spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user @himawanth8, showing the CMF Phone 1 will be priced at Rs. 17,999 in India. But the price could potentially drop to Rs 14,999 after factoring in discounts.

The discounted price likely involves a combination of an exchange bonus and a bank/card discount offer.

This discount strategy is not uncommon. Nothing used a similar approach with the Nothing Phone 2(a) to offer an introductory sale price of Rs. 19,999. The advertisement also suggests that the first sale for CMF Phone 1 will start at 12:00 PM on July 12.

As a reminder, the CMF Phone 1 will pack a Dimensity 7300 processor, a 5,000 mAh battery, and a dual rear camera system (50 MP primary sensor + 2 MP depth sensor).

The phone’s most unique feature is its customizable rear panel. One might remove the back panel and install a new one with the CMF Phone 1.  The company has confirmed that the CMF Phone 1 will be available with interchangeable back panels in Black, Blue, Light Green, and Orange. The rear panel also has a dial-like design for attaching accessories like lanyards.

CMF Phone 1 price leaks

Coming to the display, the device is confirmed to feature a Super AMOLED display. It will be a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and 2000 nits of peak brightness.

Looking at the leaked price, the CMF Phone 1 appears to be competitively priced, possibly even undercutting some competitors. It’s likely that additional back covers and attachments, sold separately, will help offset the lower-than-expected phone cost. But for those who aren’t likely to purchase accessories, the CMF Phone 1 could still offer tremendous value.

Xiaomi officially starts testing Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0

Xiaomi has officially started testing HyperOS 2.0. New information spotted by the XiaomiTime team shows that HyperOS 2.0 is officially being tested. There have been some leaks about HyperOS 2.0 for a few weeks. But we weren’t sure if they were true. Now, the XiaomiTime team has found important information confirming that HyperOS 2.0 is officially being tested. We will now announce this important information. HyperOS 2.0 will be officially introduced in October.

Xiaomi officially starts work on HyperOS 2.0

Xiaomi has officially accelerated work on HyperOS 2.0. A new extension called [OSBigversion] has been discovered on the Xiaomi OTA server. This new extension specifies HyperOS versions. For example, if you are using HyperOS 1.0, this extension will be shown as [OSBigversion] => 1.0. Or, say you’re using HyperOS 2.0, this extension will be shown as [OSBigversion] => 2.0.

Previously there was no OSBigversion extension, instead, there was a [Bigversion] extension for major MIUI versions. This Bigversion extension specified the major MIUI versions. For example, if you were using MIUI 14, it would show up as “[bigversion] => 14”. Xiaomi has been using this type of extension for years. Now we see that a special “OSBigversion” extension is used for HyperOS.

This extension is added to the OTA server to differentiate between new HyperOS versions. With the new extension, new HyperOS versions will arrive safely on your device without any problems. This indicates that the HyperOS 2.0 development has officially started.

Also, HyperOS versions have build numbers starting with V816. MIUI was first released on 16.8.2010. Therefore, Xiaomi has set the build number to V816. Actually, there are different situations related to this build number.

Before HyperOS 1.0 was released, this new version had build number V15. This indicates that HyperOS 1.0 is a rebranded MIUI 15. Some people were speculating that Xiaomi was making a new operating system. But this is not true. At the moment you don’t even know that you are using MIUI 15.

HyperOS 2.0 is expected to be announced with the Xiaomi 15 series in October. Xiaomi usually announces a new user interface with a big launch and gradually starts to release the new update. All we have to do now is to wait patiently for HyperOS 2.0.

Compared to its predecessor, the Jelly Star, Unihertz promises significant performance upgrades: 54% faster CPU, 87% zippier GPU, 36% snappier memory, and a 30% improvement in energy efficiency.

Unihertz Jelly Max

While details about the exact screen size are still under wraps, Unihertz assures us that the Jelly Max won’t compromise on battery life. It packs a 4000mAh battery, which is surprisingly large for such a compact device. This is further complemented by 66W fast charging, allowing you to juice up the phone to 90% in just 20 minutes.

Unihertz Jelly Max

While the exact dimensions remain under wraps, comparisons with the standard keyboard shown in the teaser suggest a size similar to an iPhone 13 Mini. This would be a significant leap from the tiny 3-inch display of the Jelly Star, making the Jelly Max a more practical option for everyday use.

Details about the launch date and pricing are scarce, but Unihertz has confirmed a Kickstarter campaign is on the horizon. This crowdfunding strategy aligns with their usual approach and allows them to gauge market interest before a full-scale launch.

Additionally, rumors suggest Unihertz might be working on another phone with a physical keyboard, exciting fans who crave a return to the tactile typing experience.

The Zongshen new energy motorcycle is under the Senlan Electric brand and is equipped with a set of 60V 31Ah lithium batteries. The pure electric range of the ES5 is put at 70km while the comprehensive range is about 300km. The minimum fuel consumption of the new Zongshen motorcycle is 1.5L/ 100km when the battery power is incorporated. The ES5 also comes in a pure electric version with two or three 60V 31Ah lithium battery packs. The range of the pure electric version of the model reaches 180km for the three-battery setup.

Senlan Electric has several innovations that it has introduced in the industry in recent times. The brand launched the Senlan extended-range technology platform C-REEV last month. The extended range design when implemented, ensures that a vehicle has a worry-free endurance and this applies to the ES5. The technology can continuously charge the battery of the EV while driving or parked, which translates to minimal waiting time for charging and an extended range. The model also offers pure electric power for short distances and power generation for long distances.

There are multiple charging modes to meet the various usage modes of the ES5. Ordinary household 220V charging takes 2-3 hours to fully recharge a single battery, while the Car AC charging station 2200W fast charging is achieved in 40 minutes. The extended-range platform power generation provides minimum state-of-charge fuel consumption of 1.5L/100km. The C-REEV power recovery mode provides a continuous small amount of power feedback.

The ES5 equipped with the C-REEV requires a more conservative battery architecture translating to lower cost. It also provides a maximum external discharge of 1000W which can be transformed into a large mobile power supply. The release and pricing details are expected for the Zongshen extended-range ES5 motorcycles.

Google to run Microfuchsia in a Virtual Machine on Android to make certain tasks more secure

Fuchsia is an open-source operating system developed by Google that’s designed to be simple and secure. The company previously released versions of Fuchsia that can run on Pixel-branded Chromebooks and Google Nest Hub smart home devices.

Fuchsia is based on a custom kernel called Zircon, which is derived from the Little Kernel operating system. According to Google, Zircon is “composed of a kernel and a small set of userspace services, drivers, and libraries necessary for core system functions such as booting.”

Now the latest news is that Google is working on “Microfuchsia”, a cut-down version of the Fuchsia operating system, to run it on Android devices inside a virtual machine. Microfuchsia is reportedly designed to run in a virtual machine on devices like Nest Hub. The latest development is different because it’s now happening on Android.

Microfuchsia could be used to run certain functions in an isolated environment securely

There have been speculations that Fuchsia OS will replace Android in the future, which seems unlikely at this point. The company is testing the OS out in new and interesting places. One of them is developing a cut-down version of it, that will run within Android devices in a virtual machine.

Google reportedly has ambitious plans to ship Fuchsia OS on smartphones, PCs, and smart home devices. The company eventually released Fuchsia with the first generation Nest Hub in 2021. The second-generation Nest Hub also included the OS. While the latest development with Fuchsia is not about replacing Android, it could result in significant changes in some core functionalities of Android going forward. According to Google, Microfuchsia is designed to be used in virtualization solutions. Nonetheless, Google will likely implement Microfuchsia in Android only if it adds value or improves the end-user experience.

Google introduced pKVM, a hypervisor for the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF), in Android 13 on select devices. The Android Virtualization Framework and pKVM are designed to run certain types of workloads in an isolated environment securely. Google could use its development around Fuchsia to improve the security of certain functions of Android devices.

Xiaomi 15 series rumored to be upgraded to IP69 dust and water resistance

The Xiaomi 15 series is expected to launch towards the end of this year. However, we already have an idea of what to expect from the series thanks to numerous leaks and rumors. The latest one is about the dust and water resistance rating of the phone.

Xiaomi 14

Both the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro are reported to come with IP69 dust and water resistance rating. For context, the Xiaomi series comes with the IP68 protection. As you can expect, IP69 offers better ingress protection than IP68. To be specific, the IP69 rating means the phone will be able to withstand high-pressure water jets and steam cleaning.

IP69 rating also means that the Xiaomi 15 series devices should be able to survive at a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. For comparison, IP68 devices can withstand continuous immersion beyond 1 meter. The IP69 rating is essential for devices requiring frequent and intense cleaning. Nonetheless, the additional protection could be beneficial for the phone in certain situations.

Speaking of the other aspects, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. The chipset will be released in October and the Xiaomi 15 series is also expected to be released in the same month. According to a previous report, the mass production of the Xiaomi 15 series will begin in September.

The Ultra model will likely be released in early 2025, which means the October release will include two models – the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro. The Xiaomi 15 Pro will reportedly offer a 50MP (0.8μm) periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The 50MP main camera will have a fixed “ultra-large” aperture to ensure sufficient light intake and better end results. To power the system, the phone will reportedly pack a 5400 mAh battery and support 100W wired charging.

Oppo’s software update policy promises four Android updates to their newer flagship phones, although older ones only get three. The Reno, F, and K-series models receive two OS updates.

The company’s budget A-series models typically get one Android update. However, select models will get two. Oppo hasn’t revealed those device names. Therefore, the above list doesn’t include any Oppo A-series phones launched with Android 13 out of the box. We’ll only learn about them once the official rollout timeline is out.

When Will Oppo Release Android 15

Just after Google unveiled Android 15 at the Google I/O developer conference in May, Oppo announced its participation in the beta testing. Oppo Find N3 is the company’s first phone to get Android 15 beta, allowing users to get an early taste of the upcoming OS.

The Android 15 beta should expand to more Oppo phones in the coming weeks. But when is the stable build coming?

Android 15 is in its final stage of development as it has already entered the platform stability phase. It might get a stable release anytime soon.

The upcoming Pixel 9 series is expected to be the first to come with Android 15 out of the box. Interestingly, Google has scheduled the “Made by Google” event for August 13, where the Pixel 9 series will be announced. This means Android 15 could be released in August. Usually, a new Android OS is released around September or October.

Google Pixels are the first to receive new OS updates, and then other smartphone brands, including Oppo, gradually roll it out to their eligible devices.

Android 15: What’s Exciting About This Upgrade

Every Android version is called a major upgrade, but Android 15 is a major one in real terms. It brings some critical new features and enhancements that will make you eagerly wait for it.

1. Theft Detection Lock

If someone snatches your phone and runs away with it, the device senses that motion and immediately locks the screen, preventing bad uses of your device.

The device will lock itself even if it detects suspicious activities like constant attempts to disconnect the phone or multiple failed login attempts. The best thing is that the other person will have to use the same Google account to set up the device after a factory reset. Otherwise, the device will be useless.

2. Private Space

Android 15 has a private space feature to protect apps and files you don’t want others to access. It uses a separate user profile and lets you set up a different lock factor for better security.

Everything you do in the private space will be invisible to the other space. Even the apps won’t show in the recent apps section. And all your downloads in the private space remain there.

3. App Pairs

If you frequently use apps in the split screen mode, you’ll love app pairs in Android 15. It lets you create a shortcut for your favourite split-screen combination to open them in a single click.

4. Satellite Connectivity Support

Android 15 “extends platform support for satellite connectivity.” It adds some UI elements to ensure a consistent user experience.

The OS provides support for SMS and MMS apps, as well as preloaded RCS apps, to use satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages. This means satellite messaging in Android 15 won’t be limited to emergency uses only. Also, Android 15 apps can detect when a device is connected to a satellite.

5. Partial Screen Sharing

If you screen share or do a screen recording, the video shows everything on your screen, including things you don’t want to show. Android 15 takes it to the next step by introducing partial screen sharing. With this feature, you’ll be able to screen share or record a single app rather than the entire screen.

So, which Oppo smartphone do you have? And what are your expectations from Android 15? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
