Pico 4S VR Headset Specs Surface Online, Revealing an upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 Chipset

Rumors of a new VR headset from Pico are surfacing, though the company itself hasn’t uttered a word. VR enthusiast Luna revealed the info after reportedly speaking with industry insiders and even getting a glimpse of what might be developer versions of the headset.

The headset will likely sport dual LCD screens with a 2160 x 2160px resolution.

The name “Pico 4S” is yet to be confirmed, but trademarks filed by Pico in March point towards its potential legitimacy. Luna’s reports shed light on the rumored specifications, which include an upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset for better performance. The headset would also boast 12GB of memory for smooth operation.

Visually, the Pico 4S might sport dual LCD screens with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye, delivering a sharp viewing experience. A 90Hz refresh rate is also rumored, promising seamless visuals. The design could take advantage of a compact pancake lens, possibly paired with an electric pupil distance adjustment feature for personalized comfort.

For a more immersive experience, the headset might come equipped with a comprehensive sensor suite. This includes 4 tracking cameras, 2 RGB perspective cameras, and 2 infrared illuminators to capture room depth. The handle design is also rumored to be different from previous models, featuring a ringless approach.

Exciting additions are rumored on the mixed reality front. Room scanning and the ability to freely place virtual floating panels within the physical space are some of the possibilities mentioned by Luna. While Luna suggests these features are likely finalized, there’s always a chance for tweaks before release. Interestingly, a recent device certification in South Korea hints that the launch of the headset could be on the horizon, potentially arriving within the next few months.

With Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) turned off, you can expect 12 hours of playback on a single charge, extending to 46 hours with the charging case. For a slightly less expensive option, the Skullcandy Sesh ANC Active earphones offer many of the same features as the Push ANC Active, including a 12mm dynamic unit, custom EQ, and an IP67-level waterproof rating. They lack wireless charging but retain the ANC functionality. With ANC off, you can expect 12 hours of playback on a single charge, and the charging case extends this to 36 hours. Enabling ANC reduces this to 7 hours for the earphones themselves, but the charging case provides a total of 21 hours of listening time. The Skullcandy Sesh ANC Active are priced at US$89.99 (currently approximately 656 Yuan).

Skullcandy Push Play Active TWS

The most budget-friendly option in the lineup is the Skullcandy Push Play Active earphones. These earphones feature a similar earhook design for a secure fit but utilize a smaller 6mm dynamic unit. They still offer the ability to switch between EQ presets to adjust the sound profile and boast an IP55 waterproof rating for sweat and splash resistance. The Push Play Active earphones do not have ANC. They offer 10 hours of playback on a single charge, with the charging case providing an additional 24 hours of listening time. CMF Buds Pro 2 Confirmed To Feature Dual Drivers And 50dB ANC

The CMF Phone 1’s key details have already been confirmed leading up to its launch event on July 8. The device will be accompanied by CMF Buds Pro 2 and Watch Pro 2. The Nothing sub-brand has not revealed many details about the wearable devices. That is until today, as we learn some key specifications of the upcoming TWS earphones. The Buds Pro 2 will arrive as the successor to the last year’s Buds Pro.

CMF Buds Pro 2 key specs confirmed

The CMF Buds Pro 2 will retain the semi-in-ear design with a stem and earbuds with silicone ear tips. The TWS earphones will feature 50 dB active noise cancellation (ANC) compared to 45 dB on its predecessor. The audio device will be equipped with dual drivers for delivering HiFi sound. Similar to other Nothing and CMF audio offerings, the upcoming Buds Pro 2 will also come with ChatGPT integration that will allow users to start a conversation with the AI chatbot with a gesture.

The CMF Buds Pro 2 are confirmed to be available in a Blue color option. Previously, it was teased that the audio device’s case would have a smart rotary dial with the ability to press for an intuitive sound control. The rest of the key specs remain under wraps for now. It’s just a matter of days until we learn the rest of the details about the upcoming TWS earphones at the launch event.

To recall, the CMF Buds Pro are equipped with a 10mm dynamic driver and three microphones in each earbud for crystal-clear quality on calls. The earphones are claimed to offer 11 hours of usage on a full charge. With the storage and charging case, the battery life gets extended to 39 hours. The CMF Buds Pro were launched at a price tag of Rs 3,499.

Next-generation AirPods to equip infrared cameras for enhanced spatial audio and more

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed Apple’s plans regarding its next-generation AirPods which is expected to be launched in 2026. According to him, Apple is planning to integrate infrared cameras with the next generation of AirPods.

Integrating IR cameras into AirPods could introduce a range of new capabilities to Apple’s ecosystem

The infrared cameras could reportedly be used in multiple ways, which include in-ear hand gesture detection, and enhanced spatial audio when paired with the Apple Vision Pro.

With the IR cameras, AirPods will be able to detect the user’s head movement and share the directional information with the Vision Pro to make adjustments to the spatial audio. Apple Intelligence will also reportedly be able to take advantage of the infrared cameras in AirPods.

The cameras could be similar to what Apple uses in iPhones for Face ID. Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Foxconn would supply the cameras and the current annual production capacity is planned to be between 18 million and 20 million units. However, the actual demand and order volume will depend on the market conditions at that time.

While we don’t know what exact functionalities the hand gestures could enable, they might include basic controls like changing the volume or the audio track.

Notably, Ming-Chi Kuo’s speculation is in line with a previous analysis from Mark Gurman, that revealed Apple’s plans to integrate cameras with AirPods. However, we didn’t know much about the development at that time. Apple has dominated the wireless earphone market with AirPods for quite a while. However, the market share has reduced from 48% in 2019 to nearly 21% in 2023, according to Statista. We’ll need to see if Apple can boost its market share with this latest development and, crucially, the pricing of the next-generation AirPods.

Nonetheless, we are still quite a bit away from the launch of the next-generation AirPods, and Apple may change its plans depending on how successful the development process is.

iQOO Z9 Lite: What’s coming in the new budget 5G phone?

iQOO is all set to launch the Z9 Lite in India later this month. This device is a mid-range model that will offer 5G connectivity for an affordable price. So what can we expect from this device? What specs and features will the Z9 Lite ship with? Here’s a quick breakdown of everything you need to know.

iQOO Z9 Lite

1. iQOO Z9 Lite: 5G processor from MediaTek

The Chinese brand just confirmed the Indian launch date for the iQOO Z9 Lite via an Amazon listing. The microsite revealed the 15th July 2024 launch date but also confirmed more details regarding its specifications. We know that this device offers 5G networking thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC. This processor is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is unknown whether other storage configuration will also be available in India. Although, it may offer storage expansion via a microSD card slot.

2. Familiar design in two new colors

Reports have hinted that the iQOO Z9 Lite is basically a rebranded Vivo T3 Lite. This is apparent when we look at the designs of the two mid-range devices. These look practically identical with the textured rear panel and the camera module, which houses the two image sensors. But while the Vivo T3 Lite comes in a Vibrant Green and Majestic Black, the iQOO Z9 Lite is rumored to launch in brown and blue color options. An official tweet that was shared earlier today (2nd July 2024) showcased the smartphone in the Blue option.

3. What’s on the front and back?

iQOO hasn’t revealed finer details like its camera or display specifications so far. If the rebranded Vivo T3 Lite rumor is true, then the iQOO Z9 Lite could also sport a 6.56-inch LCD panel that offers HD+ resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, a 90Hz refresh rate, and up to 840 nits of peak brightness. For photography, you get a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor on the rear. Meanwhile, the front houses an 8-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calls.

4. Other specs & expected pricing

iQOO Z9 Lite is a brand-new device, which will likely run on the Android 14 OS based Funtouch OS 14 custom skin out of the box. A large 5,000mAh battery pack may power this phone, which supports 15W wired fast charging. Other notable features include an IP64 rating for water and dust resistance, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.4, USB Type-C port, and a side mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Vivo T3 Lite came in two storage options, namely 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB variants. It has a starting price tag of 10,499 INR, while the higher end option was announced for 11,499 INR. So we can expect a similar price range that is likely under 12,000 INR.

CMF Phone 1 will feature a 50MP Sony primary camera with 2x in-sensor zoom

Nothing has announced several features for the upcoming CMF Phone 1, which will be priced under Rs. 20,000. This new model aims to offer premium specifications in the budget segment.

CMF Phone 1

As per the later teaser via the brand’s official Instagram account, the CMF Phone 1 will have a 50MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, using a Sony sensor. It includes a 2x in-sensor zoom. Instead of an ultra-wide camera, it will have a secondary portrait sensor.

As per previous reports, the phone is confirmed to feature a 6.67-inch sAMOLED display with a center-aligned punch-hole cutout. It will offer an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, and HDR10+ support.

CMF Phone 1

It will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G processor, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and an additional 8GB of virtual RAM. It includes a microSD card slot for expandable storage.

The phone is equipped with a 5000mAh battery. It features an in-display fingerprint scanner and bottom-firing speakers with a design inspired by violins for better audio quality.

We have separately covered a detailed dive into whether the CMF Phone 1 is worth waiting for.

In related news, Oppo is also gearing up to launch its Reno 12 series smartphones in the Indian market. These devices recently broke cover in Europe, featuring a 50 MP Sony LYT-600 primary sensor and a Dimensity 7300-Energy processor. As per a recent leak, we can expect these devices to arrive in India on 12th July 2024.

Many tech devices require governmental certification before launch, which often reveals key details about the devices before they are officially announced. Now, we can see the design of the Watch 7 and Watch Ultra through these real-life images. We call them “real-life” as they are not same as the previously revealed renders.

The Watch 7 was previously spotted on the MIIT website. Now, the ITHome team has discovered new images of the Watch 7 on the Chinese TAF website. While some specs may be specific to China, we don’t expect significant differences from the global model. However, the Pixel 9 seems to have already been sold to a user in Algeria. The image of the phone reveals that there will be a pink color option this time. The real-life image also reveals the design language of the new Pixel.

Google to introduce a new back design that stands out from the rest once again.

Google has redesigned the unique island module of Pixel devices with the Google Pixel 9 series, which is in line with the previously revealed renders. The protrusion of the camera island is also significant. The Pixel 9 is now confirmed to come with a flat back panel and flat sides. While Google has moved away from its previous unique camera bar design, the new design is equally distinctive and stands out from the rest.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro offers a Bay color option which looks interesting. While Pink is not a widely used color for smartphones, it can be a contrasty option for the upcoming series.

Speaking of the pink color option, this is the first time Google is using it on their Pixel phones. This new color option will likely be targeted at female users. In recent years, Google has used colors like blue, green, rose, and mint, alongside the more traditional black and gray options in its phones.

On the inside, the Pixel 9 series will house the Tensor G4 chip, which reportedly features a configuration of 1×Cortex-X4 clocked at 3.1GHz, 3×Cortex-A720 clocked at 2.6GHz, and 4×Cortex-A520 clocked at 1.95GHz. The phone seen in the image is the 256GB model.

The Google Pixel 9 has already surfaced on Geekbench revealing the raw CPU power of the Tensor G4 chipset. The phone achieved a score of 1653 and 3313 in single and multi-core tests respectively.

CMF Phone 1: A budget contender, but should you wait?

The CMF Phone 1 is an upcoming smartphone from Nothing‘s sub-brand, CMF. Scheduled to launch on July 8, 2024, this budget-friendly option will compete with the Realme 12 Pro and OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite. But is it worth the wait, or are the existing options already good enough? Let’s discuss this.

1. Confirmed Specifications

CMF has taken an unconventional approach to the launch of their upcoming Phone 1, revealing specifications a few components at a time over a nine-day period leading up to the official release on July 8.

So far, the company has confirmed that the phone will feature a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and 2000 nits peak brightness. The display will also house a fingerprint scanner for biometrics.

The device will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC, which the company claims will deliver a best-in-class user experience within its segment. CMF has also posted AnTuTu benchmark scores of 673,000, showing it performs better than the Snapdragon 782G, Dimensity 7050, Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, and Snapdragon 695, which are common processors in this price range.

The phone will come with 8GB of RAM in the base variant and will be pre-installed with Nothing OS. Unlike many budget smartphones that often come with pre-installed bloatware, Nothing OS offers a clean, near-stock Android experience, providing a user-friendly and bloatware-free interface.

As for the battery, the CMF Phone 1 will be powered by a 5000mAh cell, which the company claims can last up to 2 days of use or 22 hours of non-stop YouTube. Charging details are still under wraps.

2. Expected Specifications

Crucially, the company has not confirmed the camera details of the phone at the time of writing this article. However, leaks suggest a dual rear camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, though there isn’t much information on the other sensors. The front-facing camera is expected to be 16MP.

Another mystery about the CMF Phone 1 is its design. The company has teased a few intriguing design elements. For instance, there appears to be a knob on the back of the phone, but it’s unclear whether it is functional or merely a design element.

Additionally, a short video clip shared by the company shows the phone’s back featuring a screw that can be opened and closed. While its functionality remains unknown as well, rumors suggest the screw might be part of a modular system called “Nothing Lock,” which could allow users to attach accessories to the device and even switch out the back panel with different ones.

Although there’s no official confirmation, the CMF Phone 1 is likely to have a polycarbonate build, as it is a budget phone. This material might feel less premium compared to glass backs but could result in a lighter phone. Color options are rumored to be black, white, and orange.

3. Who Should Wait for the CMF Phone 1?

While the company is mum on the pricing of the device, leaks suggest that the CMF Phone 1 will be priced under Rs 20,000 in India. If you prioritize affordability and a clean software experience, the CMF Phone 1 could be worth the wait.

The phone is confirmed to have the best SoC in its segment, feature-rich Nothing OS, and an OLED display with HDR10+ certification. Additionally, those who appreciate unique phone designs should keep an eye on what the CMF Phone 1 has to offer.

However, while waiting for the CMF Phone 1’s launch, it’s wise to consider the established players in the budget segment. Brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, and Realme offer various options with competitive features and price points. Comparing specifications and user reviews can help you make an informed decision.
