Xiaomi Mix Flip: Unveiling the Secrets of Brand’s First Clamshell Foldable Phone

Xiaomi entered the foldable smartphone market in March 2021 with the Mi Mix Fold, but has not yet released a flip smartphone. Since January of last year, Xiaomi has been reportedly developing a flip device. Now, this new smartphone, called the Xiaomi Mix Flip, seems to be nearing launch as it goes through key certification processes like China’s 3C. Here’s what to expect from this upcoming flip phone.

1. Large cover display and super slim bezels

While the brand has not revealed what the Mix Flip will look like, a recently leaked image of the smartphone confirms that it will feature a large cover display, with a rectangular camera island above it. The flip phone will have two camera cutouts on the back.

The primary display is said to feature super slim bezels, however, detailed specifications of the display are still under wraps. That said, rumors suggest that it could offer a 1.5K resolution. As for the hinge, Xiaomi could use the same tech that it uses on its Mix Fold 3, which will allow it to withstand over 500,000 folds.

2. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or 8 Gen 3?

While initial reports indicated that the Mix Flip would come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which made sense at the time since the brand’s premium Mix Fold 3 also uses this chip. However, it looks like Xiaomi will offer the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip onboard the Flip 3. We expect the chip to be coupled with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage since it looks like Xiaomi won’t be cutting any corners on its upcoming flip phone.

3. Premium camera setup

The camera setup on the Mix Flip will feature premium sensors like Sony’s Light Hunter 800 for the 50MP primary camera and the Omnivision OV60A sensor for the 60MP 2X optical zoom camera.

While these aren’t exactly flagship-grade sensors, they are still considered quite premium, especially the LYT800, which is a 1” type sensor. Additionally, the recently leaked live image of the device has the Leica logo on it, which means that the famous German camera company is working on optimizing and improving the camera system of the Mix Flip.

4. Large battery & fast charging

Reports indicate that Xiaomi plans to equip the Mix Flip with a 4,800mAh or 4,900mAh battery. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip features a 3,700mAh battery, while the Oppo Find N3 Flip and Vivo X Flip come with 4,300mAh and 4,400mAh batteries, respectively. This suggests the Mix Flip may offer a slightly longer battery life, though the difference might not be significant given its more powerful chip.

Additionally, the Mix Flip is notable for its fast charging capabilities, as 3C certification has confirmed support for 67W fast charging, which is higher than other flip phones.

Xiaomi’s ‘MiLM’ LLM passes registration for integration into smartphones, cars, and more devices

Xiaomi‘s large language model (LLM), named MiLM, has officially passed the registration process for large models, according to a recent announcement on the company’s Weibo account.

With this, Xiaomi says that MiLM is ready for integration into its products, including smartphones, smart home devices, and even Xiaomi automobiles. The announcement also hinted at the possibility of opening MiLM’s functionalities to a wider user base in the future.

MiLM first emerged publicly in August 2023 on benchmark platforms C-Eval and CMMLU, where it achieved impressive results.

The model secured 1st place within its parameter category on the C-Eval leaderboard while ranking 10th overall. Information from the project’s GitHub page reveals that MiLM-6B, the specific model in question, has 6.4 billion parameters.

C-Eval’s subject-specific breakdown highlights MiLM-6B’s strength in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The model achieved high accuracy scores across all 20 STEM subjects, including metrology, physics, chemistry, and biology.

While MiLM-6B has promising performance in most liberal arts subjects as well, areas requiring “abstract thinking” like law, mathematics, programming, and probability theory appear to be areas for improvement.

Social sciences is another area with mixed results. MiLM-6B attained good accuracy in eight out of ten social science subjects, with the exceptions being education and geography. Finally, when it comes to humanities, the model performs well in history and law, while the accuracy of other subjects remains to be determined.

With MiLM-6B overcoming a major obstacle, it’s now ready to be integrated into various Xiaomi products. While its performance differs across subjects, it holds promise for improving user experiences in diverse domains.

Samsung Galaxy Watch FE spotted on latest One UI build

Samsung‘s FE line has been successful with their Galaxy S smartphones, and rumors suggest they might extend it to foldable phones. The FE treatment might not be limited to just phones, either. There are reports that Samsung is planning a smartwatch addition to the FE lineup – the Galaxy Watch FE.

Now, Android Headlines has spotted the latest firmware builds of Galaxy Watch FE on Samsung’s OTA servers. The watch carries the model number SM-R861, which according to the report, is a WiFi-version.

The software version R861XXU0AXE5/R8610XM0AXE5 for the wearable includes the letter “A,” suggesting the first One UI build for the device, and “XE” signifying a May 2024 release of the firmware.

Additionally, the report states the publication has spotted five test builds on the server, suggesting Samsung is actively working on the Watch FE. These test builds also reveal the Wi-Fi variants of the Watch FE will be available in Korea, Europe, and Turkey.

Looking closer at the model number, the Watch FE (SM-R861) closely resembles the Galaxy Watch4 (SM-R860). There are rumors suggesting that the Watch FE will share specs with the Galaxy Watch 4, and this leak further supports this speculation.

Moreover, the smartwatch was previously spotted with model numbers SM-R866F, SM-R866U, and SM-R866N in the IMEI database. This report by Android Headlines suggests those are the LTE variant of the Watch FE.

Historically, FE devices retain the core features of premium counterparts while sacrificing non-essential aspects to bring down costs. The upcoming Galaxy Watch FE will likely follow the trend.

Infinix is gearing up to launch the GT 20 Pro in India on May 21st, following its global release last month. This phone is the successor to the GT 10 Pro and promises a powerful gaming experience with a focus on smooth visuals, reliable performance, and a long-lasting battery. Let’s delve into what you can expect from the Infinix GT 20 Pro in the Indian market.

Infinix-GT-20-Pro-5G

1. Display Built for Gamers

The GT 20 Pro boasts a large 6.78-inch FHD+ (2436 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display, perfect for immersive gaming sessions. The 144Hz refresh rate ensures smooth visuals with minimal motion blur, while the 360Hz touch sampling rate guarantees responsive touch controls for those crucial in-game moments. To further enhance the visual experience, the phone features 2304Hz PWM Dimming to reduce flicker and eye strain during extended gaming periods.

But the display doesn’t stop there. The Infinix GT 20 Pro boasts the Pixelworks X5 Turbo Gaming Display Chip. This dedicated chip promises further optimization for gaming, potentially enhancing visuals and providing a competitive edge.

2. Powerhouse Performance

Under the hood, the Infinix GT 20 Pro packs a punch with the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 5G processor built on a 4nm manufacturing process. This powerful chipset is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and fast loading times for games and apps. With the option of expanding RAM virtually by another 12GB, the phone offers exceptional performance for demanding users.

Infinix has prioritized thermal management in the GT 20 Pro. The phone boasts over 78% larger VC cooling, a 68% larger PCM graphite sheet, and over 66% improved thermal conductivity around the SoC. This robust cooling system promises to keep the phone from overheating even during intense gaming sessions.

3. Designed for Gamers

The Infinix GT 20 Pro retains the series’ signature cyber mecha design. This aesthetic is complemented by RGB mini-LED lights with 8 color combinations and 4 lighting effects. These lights can synchronize with music, calls, and notifications, adding a touch of personalization to the phone.

The phone runs on Android 14 with Infinix’s XOS 14 on top. The company assures global users of a bloatware-free experience and promises 2 major Android upgrades and 3 years of security patch updates, ensuring the phone stays up-to-date with the latest software and security features.

4. Camera System

The camera system on the GT 20 Pro caters more towards everyday photography needs than hardcore mobile photography. The main sensor is a 108MP Samsung HM6 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). This is accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. The front-facing camera is a 32MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture, perfect for capturing selfies and video calls.

5. Long-Lasting Battery and Connectivity

The Infinix GT 20 Pro is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, offering ample power for extended gaming sessions or daily use. The phone supports 45W fast charging, allowing you to quickly refuel the battery.

Connectivity options include 5G support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, GNSS, and NFC. The phone also features an in-display fingerprint scanner for secure unlocking and an IR blaster for controlling appliances.

6. Official Gaming Phone for PUBG Mobile Super League

The Infinix GT 20 Pro boasts the title of the Official Gaming Phone for the PUBG Mobile Super League (PMSL), a testament to its gaming capabilities. The company is committed to providing gamers with the tools they need for a competitive edge. Infinix is also among the first companies to offer 120fps support for PUBG Mobile, further enhancing the gameplay experience. Although PUBG Mobile is not accessible in India, its Indian counterpart, BGMI, is available, and these features are anticipated to be included in BGMI as well.

7. Pricing and Availability

The Infinix GT 20 Pro is expected to be priced under Rs 25,000 in India. It will be available in three color options: Mecha Blue, Mecha Orange, and Mecha Silver. The phone will be available for purchase through Flipkart and will come with a bundle of accessories, including a MagCase, finger sleeves, and a cooling fan.

8. Conclusion

The Infinix GT 20 Pro is a promising contender in the budget gaming phone segment. It boasts a powerful processor, a smooth display, a capable cooling system, and features specifically designed to enhance the gaming experience. With its competitive price tag, the GT 20 Pro is definitely worth considering for mobile gamers in India looking for a feature-packed phone without spending a fortune.
