Apple is known for providing products with various proprietary features and hardware. The Cupertino based giant secures every minute details on its iPhones as well, be it the iOS software, lightning port or processors. But now, a group of dedicated individuals has broken through Apple’s confining walls to bring Android OS to an iPhone 7.

Project Sandcastle is under which this great endeavor was carried out by a team called Corellium. The team is known for their previous work which involved bringing Android OS on the original iPhone. So, a recurring philosophy can be observed here, but now Android 10 is available on Apple’s iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod Touch.

The project used the checkra1n software intensively to jailbreak the iPhone 7 series to run the Android OS. It doesn’t just stop here as the group of developers are working on including additional iPhone models as well in the list. But for now, only these three devices will be available for Android since these Apple handsets are a couple of years too late to receive an update to fix the vulnerabilities Corellium exploited.

Thus, it leads to the point that technically most recent iPhone models can be hacked, but there is no point in it since “Apple will fix it with an update.” Unfortunately, installing Android on your iPhone 7 series will result in certain major features to not work correctly. These include essential functions like Bluetooth, audio, mobile data networking, and camera.

Furthermore, the GMS (Google Mobile Services) is also unsupported on the iPhone 7 series. Meaning, there is no custom recovery to flash it in the smartphone either. In a list of demerits, it seems that the update isn’t stable either since you will lose all data and the Android OS itself when rebooting the device, bringing you back to iOS which lacks the storage taken up by the Android installation.

Unfortunately, the process is still in beta and it is advised not to be used on hardware that one is currently using. Apple launched the iPhone 7 along with the iPhone 7 Plus last Spring and they both were available in Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Black colors as well as a new Jet Black finish. If the latest rumor is anything to go by, the iPhone 7 is likely going to get a new color variant soon and it is a blue shade.

Images of the iPhone 7 adorning a blue shade was leaked recently on Weibo and honestly, it looks cool especially with the antenna band having a black coloration. We would have been tempted to think this was another concept image but the device looks real and even could be seen inside its box casing in one of the leaked images.

Apple seems to be shifting from its traditional offerings on the iPhone in order to appeal to more potential customers in markets such as India and China. The company recently changed the base storage of its models from 16GB to 32GB and recently, there were rumors of a red color variant coming with the iPhone 8 billed for later this year.

As a reminder, the iPhone 7 sports a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 3D touch. The flagship device comes with a new quad-core Apple A10 Fusion chipset. A tech analyst with KGI Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo has hinted that the upcoming Apple 2017 iPhone 8 flagship will likely feature dual cameras which on their own would have dual optical image stabilization(OIS).

Dual cameras are not customary to Apple device, found only on the iPhone 7 Plus and not on the iPhone 7. But the well-known analyst posits that Apple will re-engineer the 2017 flagship’s lenses to support optical image stabilization and auto focus as well.This he said will be to enhance the phone’s selling point because of the improvement it will bring to the photo quality and optical zoom range.

The iPhone 8 is rumored as having a version with 5.1- 5.2 inches OLED display in addition to the traditional 5.5-inch LCD display sporting one. Mr Kuo hinted that both versions will this time around feature dual cameras with dual IOS. However, there is also a 4.7-inch model which the analyst says will retain a single-lens camera but will also have optical image stabilization feature. The 6P and telephoto lens on all three new models are expected to be supplied by longstanding Apple supplier Largan Precision, according to the analyst.

Smartphone cameras have gotten better in recent years with some even offering performance on par with some DSLRs and Rangefinders. Shin Noguchi is a Japanese street photographer and he has decided to pit the camera from one of this year’s flagship devices, the iPhone 7, against a Leica M9-P with a Leica Summicron 35mm f/2 lens.

So how does an $800 phone stack up against a camera setup that sells for $9000? Shin takes both cameras for an outdoor shoot and from the results, the iPhone 7 doesn’t do badly.

In Shin Noguchi’s words ”the iPhone 7 is the best 1/3” sensor camera. Nothing more, nothing less.”. While the Leica rangefinder does a great job, he said he’s fascinated by the photo quality of new smartphones.

Apple’s A10 chip is regarded presently as arguably the most powerful mobile phone processor presently available in the market and rightfully so. The graph showing the A10X performance reveals the expected iPad chip garnered a single-core performance score of 4236 points and in the multi-core performance test, it scored 6588 points. When compared with the A9X processor, the A10X’s singel-core performance increased by 34%, while the multi-core performance leaped by 27%. On the other hand, when compared with iPhone 7’s A10 Fusion chip, the A10X single-core performance increased 21.9%, multi-core performance increase of 19.8%.

Apple has launched the much talked about iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in a ceremony held in San Francisco, US. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus debuts with a wide range of new features and upgraded specs from the iPhone 6s. One very spectacular feature missing on the new generation iPhones is the 3.5mm audio jack which had long been captured in rumors to be leaving the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. You don’t have to worry, though, because Apple will include an adapter to enable you still use the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

Apple has given the iPhone 7 a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 3D touch. There is also a new processor in town, a quad-core Apple A10 Fusion chipset which comes along with 3.3 billion transistors making it 40% faster than the previous A9 chips. The A10 processor also comes along with a hexa-core GPU. There is a new 12MP iSight camera with 6-element lens, f/1.8 aperture, High-speed Sensor (60% faster, 30% efficient), support for 4K video recording and quad LED dual-tone flash. It also has a new 7MP Facetime camera. The iPhone 7 comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB, 128GB and 256GB built-in storage options.

On the software, the iPhone 7 runs on the latest iOS 10. In addition, the phone comes with an IP67 rating meaning it is water and dust resistant. The iPhone 7 also has a new home button and this houses the fingerprint sensor. The home button is pressure sensitive with Taptic Engine, so instead of having the feel you pressed the button because it clicked, it will vibrate.

Not only that, the iPhone 7, for the first time, comes with stereo speakers with volume output touted to be twice the volume of the iPhone 6s speakers. There is also some improvement in the battery life of the non-removable battery on the iPhone 7.

iPhone 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch Retina HD display with 3D touch  and powered by a new quad-core A10 Fusion chipset as well. The processor is accompanied by a 3GB RAM and there are three storage versions available, 32GB, 128GB and 256GB.

The iPhone 7 Plus comes with dual 12MP rear cameras  with one having a wide-angle with f/1.8 aperture and the other lens, a telephoto lens with f/2.8 aperture for new depth-of-field. The camera also has OIS along with Quad-LED True Tone flash.On the selfie shooter, there is a new 7MP Facetime camera.

Just like the iPhone 7, the 7 Plus also comes with IP67 water and dust resistance rating. The home button is also pressure sensitive, with Taptic Engine and the fingerprint sensor is embedded on it.

Now coming to the prices, the iPhone 7 starts at $650 ( about 4,334 Yuan), same as the iPhone 6s while the higher-end iPhone 7 Plus will retail at $770 (5,134 Yuan). They come in Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Black and the new Jet Black finish.

Ahead of the September 7 launch of the iPhone 7, a new research report that detailed what to expect from Apple on the flagship iPhone 7, and 7 Plus has been outed. The report is the brain child of KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who is reputed as having a very strong track record when it comes to Apple product details. This happens to be his most detailed research report on the iPhone 7 which would be launched on Wednesday. The report features some earlier rumors about the iPhone 7 and also introduces some new titbits about the expected smartphone.

According to the trusted analyst, the iPhone 7 will feature quite a number of upgrades and changes from its predecessors but the design is similar to the iPhone 6s which might not be significantly noticed by most users. Here is a summary of all the expected changes the iPhone 7 is said to bring;

• New A10 chip –  The iPhone 7 is said to feature new A10 chips manufactured by TSMC that could top out at 2.4-2.45 GHz, although Apple may clock it a bit lower due to heat and power consumption concerns. Already, a very recent GeekBench data of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus has revealed the power of the A10 chips even though the clock frequency posted is incorrect.

• Five color options – This isn’t the first time we are getting rumors that the iPhone 7 will come with a fifth color variant which Kuo gave as Glossy Piano Black. this would be in addition to the usual silver, gold, and rose gold, along with a “dark black” replacing the usual Space Gray. A photo of SIM trays in those five color variants had made the rounds on the internet just recently.

• Three Storage Memory Versions of 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB – The analyst also hinted that there will likely be three storage versions on both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The iPhone 7 Plus will include 3 GB of DRAM to support the dual-lens camera, while the iPhone 7 will continue to include 2 GB.

• Dual-lens rear camera on the iPhone 7 Plus – The iPhone 7 Plus is expected to be Apple’s first device to feature a dual rear camera setup and the analyst corroborated this claim. this would likely increase the iPhone’s cost by about $40, likely making the iPhone 7 Plus more expensive than the iPhone 6s Plus. Both lenses will be 12-megapixel, but one will be a wide-angle camera with larger pixel sizes, a 6P lens, and optical image stabilization, while the second will be a telephoto lens with smaller pixel sizes and a 5P lens.

• Improved IPX7 water resistance – matching that of the original Apple Watch and making the device suitable for splashes, showering, and even brief dips in water up to one meter deep.

• No headphone jack, with Apple providing both Lightning EarPods and a Lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapter in the box. Removal of the headphone jack will allow for an upgraded speaker and a new sensor for improved Force Touch.

• Earpiece receiver to become a speaker –  Instead of putting a second speaker at the bottom in place of the headphone jack, Apple is said to be upgrading the earpiece receiver at the top of the device to become a full speaker, with the addition of a new audio amplifier . The change would provide enough separation to allow for stereo sound when the device is held in landscape orientation. The closed up speaker grills shown in a leaked back casing of the iPhone 7 seem to confirm this rumor.

• Pressure-sensitive click-less home button –  The round custom home button will be pressure sensitive and click-less to aid the water resistance. However, Apple has included new haptics to mimic a clicking sensation when the button is pressed so you would know it is working.

• Wide color displays – Although the iPhone 7 & 7 Plus come in the same sizes and resolutions as the current iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. The wide color technology adopted from the 9.7-inch iPad Pro will offer better color quality.

• Upgraded rear camera flash –  The rear camera flashlights are said to be upgraded to come with four LEDs (two cool and two warm LEDs) and a new ambient light sensor for better image quality.

• Possible upgraded proximity sensor shifting from LED to laser for faster response and greater recognition distance, as well as potential gesture recognition.

• FeliCa NFC support in models sold in Japan, as had been previously rumored for either the iPhone 7 or the 2017 iPhone.

Furthermore, the Analyst projects that shipments for the iPhone 7 will be lower than that of the iPhone 6s posted last year. iPhone 6s shipped up to 82 million units between September and December last year but the analyst says the iPhone 7 might be lower than that with about 20 million units within the same period. This he attributes to the new water resistance feature which resulted in low assembly yield, thus pushing back the start of mass production until the second half of August. The units shipment between now and December is projected to come in at 60-65 million.

Samsung’s latest flagship is the stylus-toting Galaxy Note 7. Sporting a 5.7” 2K Super AMOLED screen with dual curved edges, 4GB RAM, 64GB  ROM,  12MP f/1.7 rear  camera, 5MP front camera, a 4096 pressure sensitive S-Pen, iris scanner, fingerprint scanner, and an IP68 certification; the Note 7 does has a lot to offer. But at a price. A price of 6000 Yuan ($900)!!!

Another phone which will probably be having such a high price tag is Apple’s new phone, the iPhone 7. Although it has not been released yet, we already have a fair knowledge of what to expects following months of leaks.

The iPhone 7 (Plus) is said to come with a 5.5” 3D-touch screen, dual 12 MP cameras on the back, a 5MP front facing camera, a fingerprint scanner, and doesn’t come with a 3.5mm jack. It will also be ditching the 16GB storage option.

A live video clip of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus has surfaced online confirming the features the phones had earlier been rumored to possess. The video comes in Ultra HD 4k resolution and clearly shows the details of the phones in high definition. Both the front and back views of the two flagships Apple is expected to officially unveil in September are featured on the video.

One prominent feature noted on the back views are the protruded cameras on both the iPhone 7 and 7Plus. The dual cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus are also very visible as is the antenna lines on the top edges of both phones which are coated in white color. In traditional iPhone design, there are physical Home buttons on both iPhones models and true to rumors, there are no 3.5mm headphone jacks on both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

China Unicom’s Hong Kong branch has uploaded a photo online hinting that one of the upcoming iPhone 7s (sevens) will have a new color and sport dual cameras. This is definitely the iPhone 7 plus. While the color is not yet known, there are rumors saying it will be matte black. The image shows 4 color options, viz.: grey, blue, tyrant gold, and rose gold, with the possible matte black being the fifth.

Someone else also uploaded a leaked image of iPhone 7 renders in rose gold, tyrant gold, silver, gray, and dark blue. This kind of adds a bit of truth that both iPhone models will have 5 colors each.

Another info going round is that the iPhone 7 Plus will be officially known as iPhone Pro.

The iPhone 7 is expected to have a starting price of 5288 yuan ($797) for the 32GB model and 6088 Yuan ($917) for the 32GB iPhone Pro. Both models will have waterproof features stronger than that of the iPhone 6s but still not strong enough to get an IP68 rating.

Apple is expected to launch both phones in September.

Apple’s iPhone 6s was made available in rose gold, silver, gold, and space gray color variants and it is most likely the iPhone 7 will follow suit, a leaked image of the next Apple flagship suggests.

A recent image leak of the iPhone 7 Gold color variant has been revealed suggesting an iPhone 6 and 6s look-alike, except for some few noticeable differences like the camera hump which the iPhone 7 is rumored to come with.

Images of the space gray / black color variant of the iPhone 7 (pictured below) had earlier on appeared online and this image seems to lend credence to the previous images which showed the rear camera with a slight outward protrusion of some few millimeters from the phone’s body.

In addition, the leaked image reveals another stunning detail about the headphone port. Sadly, the image reinforces earlier speculations that the iPhone 7 and 7 Pro will not feature the 3.5mm headphone jack but the renowned 3.5mm audio jack will be replaced by USB Type-C port.

Going further, there’s also a hole between the camera and the flash and it is said to be a laser-focus module. The space gray / black color variant leaked earlier also had the same design including the laser-focus module.

It is also worth mentioning that a report on the Wall Street Journal is quoted rendering further information that the iPhone 7 will ditch the 16GB storage option and will start at 32GB of onboard storage upward but the price does not seem to change from the 5288 Chinese yuan ($790) as speculated.
