The Apple iPhone remains a very wonderful and versatile device, with several of its potential capabilities yet to be fully explored.</p>

<p>Now, a report has come in that an iPhone X model was mistakenly dropped from an airplane flying at an altitude of about 11,000 feet (3.35km) and it survived the force of its impact on earth impressively. This could well be the harshest of accidental drop tests that the device will be put through, although the result is quite illuminating, further securing the place of the iPhone in terms of ruggedness. The news about this incidence was announced by the owner of the device in an aviator forum.</p>
<p>The pilot whose name was given as David was flying a DA40 small plane when the incident occurred. The DA40 has a large plexiglass canopy and small side windows which can be opened while airborne. Indeed, it was in the course of a flight from Colorado Springs to Atlanta, having had a refueling stopover at Branson, Massachusetts. An attached photo to the news showed that David was enthralled by a view of the unique billowing clouds, and decided to have some snapshots of the scenery below him, while at an altitude of 11,000 feet.</p>
<figure id="attachment_408486" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-408486" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-408486" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="1024" height="537" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft-768x403.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft-696x365.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/iphone-aircraft-801x420.jpg 801w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-408486" class="wp-caption-text">DA40 aircraft</figcaption></figure>
<p>The aviator was a bit cautious in taking the photos, but ultimately, a gust of wind blew and altered the dynamics leading to the slipping off of the smartphone, an iPhone X, from his grip. He had lost hope of getting his phone, but one way or the other, he was lucky to locate the device on his Find My iPhone app and traced it. David made a trip back to Arkansas, and after some difficulties, was able to locate his smartphone. A search of a 10-meter radius of where the GPS tracked the phone finally yielded the device after more than an hour of trudging in the soybean field. The device was later found to be in great condition, apart from the battery that had gone flat.</p>
<p>The location where the device landed may have helped to prevent its dismemberment – on a soy dirt heap. Also, the phone was encased in an Otterbox Defender series case which may have helped cushion the effect of the fall to some extent. All the same, the survival of the device from that full is extremely remarkable.</p>

Soon after the iPX launch, Android manufacturers started to imitate the notch up front, and this included the world&#8217;s number three smartphone company, Huawei. However, turns out, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> could have considered using the notch design way before Apple and its iPhone X.</p>
<figure id="attachment_184862" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-184862" style="width: 640px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-184862 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei P20 Pro case 17" width="640" height="480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33-160x120.jpg 160w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-case-33.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-184862" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei P20 Pro with a Case</figcaption></figure>
<p>In an interview with Forbes&#8217; Ben Sin, Huawei&#8217;s Mobile Head, Li took some time to talk about the notch design on the Huawei P20 series. He said that the company had conceptualised this design &#8220;three to four years ago&#8221;, however, Huawei decided to play it safe. With a notch up front, the symmetrical design that&#8217;s usually seen on most smartphones and loved by Chinese customers, would be ruined. This is why the company thought it was not the right time to release a flagship with a notch up front.</p>
<p>However, seeing the success of the notch-equipped iPhone X, Huawei realised that it played too safe. Li adds that the company missed their chance to pioneer the notch design.</p>
<figure id="attachment_184492" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-184492" style="width: 640px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-13.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-184492" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-13-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei P20 Pro 13" width="640" height="360" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-13-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-13-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-13-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-13.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-184492" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei P20 Pro Twilight Color</figcaption></figure>
<p>Li further said that the gradient twilight color for the P20 Pro almost didn&#8217;t materialise as many considered it to be a bit &#8216;too much&#8217;. However, Huawei decided to take a chance with this color and it definitely paid off, considering how this variant is a consumer favourite today.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>End of the day, it&#8217;s not about who thought of the idea first but who managed to get it right and present it to the public on a commercial product. Clearly, Apple got it right with the notch and it looks like more and more smartphones will catch on with the trend in the coming months.</p>
<figure id="attachment_184482" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-184482" style="width: 640px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-184482 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-3-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="huawei p20 pro" width="640" height="360" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Huawei-P20-Pro-3.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-184482" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei P20 Pro Has 3 Cameras At The Back!</figcaption></figure>
<p>But one things&#8217; for sure, the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/03/30/huawei-rd-spending-was-nearly-14-billion-in-2017-it-plans-to-spend-more/"> billion of dollars being spent on Huawei&#8217;s R&amp;D department</a> is paying off. The three camera design is no gimmick and it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/04/11/huawei-p20-pro-review-the-best-huawei-smartphone-yet/">delivers a stunning smartphone camera experience</a>. The gradient back is nothing like we&#8217;ve seen before and gives the P20 Pro a unique identity. I&#8217;m sure in the coming months, more phone makers will try to release their own version of a gradient back as well as a triple camera setup. But we&#8217;ll always remember, Huawei was the first to pioneer both these elements in a smartphones.</p>

These devices are the most powerful flagships from <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/">Huawei</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/">Apple</a>, respectively, and both performed very well in the speed test. The test consisted of opening 16 apps and games in order to see which of the two handsets is faster at opening them. While Huawei P20 Pro has been faster at launching lightweight apps such as such as Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, Apple iPhone X has opened the heaviest apps and games a lot faster, such as Temple Run 2, Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8.</p>
<p>But when it comes to re-opening apps, the P20 Pro wins. The latest flagship by Huawei has managed to keep every app opened in background, while Apple iPhone X has reloaded most of the apps and games. This has happened because the Apple device does not have enough RAM to keep all those apps open at the same time. Indeed, Huawei P20 Pro comes with 6 GB of RAM, while Apple iPhone X comes with just 3 GB of RAM. So, even though Apple iPhone X is faster in the most-demanding scenarios and iOS is better optimised than Android, its opponent does better in multi-tasking and lightweight apps.</p>

<p>Under the hood, the Apple iPhone X has an hexa-core Apple A11 Bionic chipset: the first SoC which can make every core work at the same time. Huawei P20 Pro has an octa-core Kirin 970 which we already saw on the Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Honor View 10. It is an octa-core chipset running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz with an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) dedicated to artificial intelligence.</p>

<p>Which of these handsets do you prefer? Apple iPhone X with its higher speed at opening heavy apps or P20 Pro which provides better performances in multi-tasking?</p>
