Samsung Galaxy A70 starts receiving One UI 3.1 (Android 11) update

The Samsung Galaxy A70 was one of the best-selling smartphones in 2019 just like its smaller sibling Galaxy A50. The latter started receiving the One UI 3.1 (Android 11) update last week. Now, the company has begun to roll out this same software update to the former device as well.

The South Korean tech giant launched the Galaxy A70 with One UI based on Android 9.0 Pie. The handset was later updated to Android 10-based One UI 2.x. Now, Samsung has even started seeding out One UI 3.1 (Android 11) update for this phone.

According to SamMobile, the Android 11 update for the Galaxy A70 is currently live in Ukraine. The update comes with firmware version A705FNXXU5DUC6 and March 2021 security patches in the country. It weighs about 1.9GB in size.

Users living in this region can head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check if their unit has got the OTA update. Similarly, customers in other regions can also do the same since they are also expected to get the update in the coming days.

That said, Android 11 should be the last major update for the Samsung Galaxy A70. However, this smartphone should receive security updates up until 2023.

Samsung begins One UI 3.1 update rollout for Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series, Galaxy Z Fold2, & more

After updating devices like the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy Tab S7 series, Samsung is officially bringing the One UI 3.1 update to Galaxy S20 Series, Note 20 Series, Z Fold2, and Z Flip devices.

Samsung in a press release announced that it will bring the latest One UI 3.1 update to various flagship and mid-range series of devices. You can take a look at the list below:

*-The Galaxy S20 FE started receiving it a few days ago but Samsung had to pull it back reportedly due to various issues.

Samsung launched the One UI 3.1 back when it announced the Galaxy S21 series of devices in January. These devices are the first ones to carry the UI out of the box. It then started updating the older devices by pushing the UI update via OTA(Over-The-Air).

Anyway, the latest update is rolling out to various regions in the UK, Europe(like Austria, Germany), and South Korea. If you are someone living in these regions, you can try out the new features by navigating to Software Update in Settings.

The One UI 3.1 brings features like Improved performance, Private Share, GPS location data removal on Images, more Lock screen widgets, Background Video Calling, Google Discover on Home Screen, Zoom Lock(in camera), and more.

That said, a report by Sammobile says that Samsung hasn’t brought the Google Discover, Google Messages to the devices with this update. This means it is still exclusive to the Galaxy S21 devices for now.

Users in other regions need not panic as Samsung will eventually roll out the update soon in the coming days. Also, in the news, Samsung has mentioned devices like the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A80, Galaxy A51, A71. We will have to wait for a few days to know when Samsung starts their rollout.

Android 10 Update for Galaxy A70 & April Security Patch for Galaxy M31 are Bricking the Devices

Samsung rolled out One UI 2.0 update based on Android 10 to the Galaxy A70 in certain markets a few days back. In a similar fashion, the company released April 2020 security patch for Galaxy M31. Now, the users who downloaded and installed the update are ended up with a non-functioning slab of brick.

Galaxy A70 One UI 2.0 Android 10 Update Bricks The Device

The South Korean tech giant has been updating a number of its devices to One UI 2.0 (Android 10). The Galaxy A70 launched back in March 2019 finally got its turn for the update exactly after a year from its launch. But unfortunately, it turned out to be bricking the devices. As of now, Samsung has halted the rollout but it is yet to acknowledge the issue.

According to SamMobile, the bricking of Samsung Galaxy A70 phones on updating it to Android 10 is a hardware issue, which requires the user to visit the nearest customer service center to replace a new PCB. Sadly, it is not possible in the current lockdown situation.

The smartphone maker has used two different versions of PCB to handle charging and control screen on the Galaxy A70. Hence, every time the brand releases a new update, the PCB is also updated to support the latest firmware. But with the One UI 2.0 Android 10 update, the firm has forgotten to include the code to update the PCB. Thus the motherboard assumes the battery to be empty and prevents the phone from booting.

Anyway, as mentioned earlier, Samsung seems to have rolled back the OTA but still does not update your Galaxy A70 to Android 10 if you ever receive the notification.

April 2020 Security Patch Update Could Brick Galaxy M31

In the case of Galaxy A70, the handset is certain to get bricked if the Android 10 update is initiated. On the other hand, the April 2020 security patch update on Galaxy M31 has a possibility of bricking the device and we recommend you not to update the device.

Our unit too received the update weighing 545.26 MB yesterday (April 10), and installed without any issue. But the same cannot be said for a number of unfortunate users who have reported their bad luck on Samsung Members app and Twitter.

The only fix for this issue is once again visiting the nearest Samsung service center to clean flash the firmware. Again this is not possible for many as they are closed due to lockdown order by governments across the world to fight the outbreak of coronavirus aka COVID-19.

Samsung Galaxy A70s Geekbench listing appears; May sport a 64MP lens

Samsung is reportedly working on the launch of the new Galaxy A-series phones. These smartphones are speculated to arrive as enhanced versions of the Galaxy A phones that were released in the first half of the year. A Geekbench listing of a new Samsung phone that has a model number of SM-A707F has appeared. Since the original Galaxy A70 phone had a model number of SM-A705, it is speculated that the SM-A707F is the enhanced Galaxy A70s. A recent report has claimed that it could be the first Samsung phone to sport a 64-megapixel camera.

The Geekbench listing of the purported Samsung Galaxy A70s reveals that it is powered by the Snapdragon 675 chipset. It also reveals that the smartphone is equipped with 6 GB of RAM and it runs on Android 9 Pie OS. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the SM-A707F smartphone has respectively scored 2365 and 6372 points. The Galaxy A70 smartphone that was announced earlier this year is also fueled by Snapdragon 675 chipset and 6 GB of RAM.

In related news, reliable leakster Ice Universe has claimed that Samsung is working on a Galaxy A series phone with 64-megapixel camera. He added that the South Korean company is aiming to launch the phone in September or October. It is speculated that the Galaxy A70s could be the first Samsung to feature its own 64-megpaixel GW1 sensor.

Samsung Galaxy A70S to come with a 64 MP camera sensor

A couple of months back, Samsung launched the Galaxy A70 smartphone which comes with a 32MP front-facing camera. Now, the company is gearing up to launch the Galaxy A70S smartphone, which will be the world’s first smartphone to feature a 64MP camera sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy A70S will be launched in the second half of this year but the exact launch date is not yet known. As per the reports, the smartphone will come with Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 camera sensor.

Announced earlier this month, the new ISOCELL Bright GW1 is a 64MP camera sensor that offers the highest resolution so far for the smartphone. It comes with pixel-merging Tetracell technology and remosaic algorithm that offers 16MP images in low-light environments where four pixels are merged to work as one to increase light sensitivity.

It also supports real-time high dynamic range (HDR) of up to 100-decibels (dB) that provides richer hues. The sensor is equipped with a Dual Conversion Gain (DCG) that converts the received light into an electric signal.

This allows the sensor to optimize its full well capacity (FWC), utilizing the collected light more efficiently especially in bright environments. It also supports 480fps Full HD slow-motion filming and will have High Dynamic Range, as well as support for Super PD — a high-performance phase detection auto-focus technology.

This will make it the highest megapixel count camera sensor for smartphones in the market. Currently, the highest megapixel smartphone camera sensor is of 48MP, being offered by Sony as well as Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy A70S could be the upgraded version of the A70 launched in March this year. It comes with a 6.7-inch Infinity-U Super AMOLED Full HD+ display and a 32MP snapper housed inside the notch.

It is powered by Snapdragon 670 SoC, coupled with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It comes with triple camera sensors on the back — 32MP with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 123° FOV, and a 5MP f/2.2 depth sensor.

The phone also features an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. It runs Android 9 Pie-based Samsung One UI out-of-the-box and is powered by a 4500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging technology.

Galaxy A40s and Galaxy A60 launched in China

Samsung has announced new Galaxy A smartphones in China today. The lineup includes the Galaxy A40s, the Galaxy A60 with a punch hole display, the Galaxy A70, and the Galaxy A80 which has triple rotating cameras.

Galaxy A40s

The Galaxy A40s, which is actually a rebranded Galaxy M30 for China, has a 6.4-inch FHD+ Infinity U display. The notch houses a 16MP selfie camera. The phone is powered by the 14nm Exynos 7904 processor and it is paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The A40s comes with triple rear cameras – a 13MP primary camera, a 5MP super wide-angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. The phone also packs a 5000mAh battery with 15W fast charging and a fingerprint scanner on the back.

The Galaxy A40s will sell for ¥1499 (~$224).

Galaxy A60

The Galaxy A60 is also official now. Apparently, the images from this morning was from the event. The phone has a 6.7-inch FHD+ punch hole LCD (not AMOLED) display with a 32MP selfie camera. Samsung says the phone has a screen-to-body ratio of 92% and the punch hole is smaller at 4.8mm than that of the Honor View 20 and Galaxy A8s. It also ditches the traditional speaker at the top for sound-on-display technology just like the Galaxy A80.

The A60 has triple rear cameras – a 32MP primary camera, an 8MP super wide-angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. It is powered by the Snapdragon 675 processor and has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It packs a 3,500mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner too and is priced at ¥1999 ($299).

Samsung also announced the Galaxy A70 which is priced at ¥2499 (~$374) for the 6GB + 128GB version and ¥2799 (~$418) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB version. The Galaxy A80 was also announced at the event but there is no info on its price yet.

Samsung China confirms April 10 global launch event; Galaxy A60 and A70 may go official

Samsung China has confirmed through Weibo that it will be holding a global launch event on April 10. Since yesterday, it has released two teasers for the upcoming unveil event. However, none of them have revealed the names of the devices that will go official on Wednesday. At the end of the previous month, the SM-A6060 and SM-A7050 smartphones were approved by China’s TENAA telecom authority. These phones are expected to go official as Galaxy A60 and Galaxy A70.

Samsung Galaxy A70 Specifications and Price

The Galaxy A70 has recently launched in South Korea. While the entire specs of the phone have been confirmed by the company, it is yet to reveal the pricing of the phone for the home market. The A70 smartphone is equipped with a massive 6.7-inch AMOLED display with Infinity-U notch. The display produces full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The Snapdragon 670 powers the 6 GB and 8 GB RAM variants of the phone. Both models are equipped with 128 GB of storage.

It comes with a 32-mgeapixel front-facing camera. Placed on its rear is a triple camera module that features a 32-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The device is packed with a 4,500mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging. It also features an in-display fingerprint reader.

According to tipster Ishan Agarwal, the Galaxy A70 variants such as 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage will be respectively priced at 2,999 Yuan (~$446) and 3,299 Yuan (~$491) in China. He has also claimed that the phone will carry similar pricing in India and other Asian nations. TENAA has revealed that China will be receiving the handset in colors like Black, Blue, Orange and White.

Samsung Galaxy A60 Specifications

Samsung is yet to announce the Galaxy A60 in any market. Its TENAA certifications suggests that it will go official first in China on April 10. A leaked information that had surfaced at the beginning of the year had claimed that the Galaxy A60 will be arriving as a lighter version of the punch-hole display enabled Galaxy A8s that was announce in China in December 2018. The TENAA images have revealed that the Galaxy A60 is indeed equipped with a punch-hole screen.

According to TENAA, the Galaxy A60 features a 6.3-inch AMOLED display that offers full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. It is packed with a 3,410mAh minimum capacity battery. An octa-core processor working at 2.0 GHz and 6 GB of RAM will be fueling the smartphone. It will include an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. It is fitted with a rear-facing fingerprint reader.

There is a 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 5-megapixel triple camera setup on its rear. On its front is a 32-megapixel selfie snapper. It will be releasing in colors like Black, Blue and Orange.

Samsung Galaxy A60 full specifications leaked through TENAA listing

The Galaxy A60 and Galaxy A70 had recently appeared on TENAA with preliminary specs. A day after TENAA appearance, Samsung had officially unveiled the Galaxy A70 smartphone. The Galaxy A60 is yet to go official. The entire specifications of the A60 has appeared on its TENAA listing.

The Galaxy A60 measures 155.2 x 73.9 x 7.9mm and it weighs 162 grams. It is equipped with a 6.3-inch display that produces full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. Its packed with a 3,410mAh battery.

An octa-core processor with a set of CPU cores working at 2.0 GHz and the remaining cores clocking at 1.7 GHz powers the Galaxy A60. The device could be featuring an Exynos chipset. The 64 GB edition of the phone features 6 GB of RAM whereas the 128 GB variant has 8 GB of RAM. The Android 9 Pie OS comes loaded on the device. The device is equipped with an external storage slot.

The Samsung Galaxy A60 is equipped with a 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 5-megapixel triple camera module. The frontside of the phone features a 32-megapixel camera. The other features that are available on the device include a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and fast charging technology. The handset will be releasing in China in color options such as Black, Blue and Orange.

Samsung Galaxy A70 launches with 32MP triple rear cams and an Infinity-U display

Samsung has announced a new member of the Galaxy A-series in its home country of South Korea. The Galaxy A70 is the latest to join the series and its arrival comes a few weeks before Samsung’s Galaxy A-series event scheduled for April 10.

The Galaxy A70 has a lot going for it. It has the largest display in the A-series – a 6.7-inch Infinity-U Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. Hidden inside the notch is a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera just like the one found on the Vivo V15 Pro. The back is made from the same 3D Glasstic material as the Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50.

Powering the Galaxy A70 is the Snapdragon 670 – an octa-core chipset with 2x cores at 2.0GHz and 6x cores at 1.7GHz. There is 6GB or 8GB of RAM paired with 128GB of storage. You also get a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion.

There are three cameras on the rear of the A70 – another 32MP sensor but with an f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 123° FOV, and a 5MP f/2.2 depth camera. There is a scene optimizer that can identify up to 20 scenes and adjust the camera settings for the best output.

The phone still has more party tricks. It has a 4500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. Yes, the A70 supports a faster charging technology than the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+. Only the Galaxy S10+ 5G also supports 25W fast charging.

There is also an in-display fingerprint scanner to keep your phone secure and it works with Samsung Pass, so you can sign in to apps and websites using just your fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy A70 runs One UI based on Android 9 Pie which has a dedicated Night Mode for easy viewing at night. There is support for Samsung Pay too and Bixby is also on board.

The Galaxy A70 comes in Coral, Blue, Black, and White. Samsung hasn’t announced a price yet but says more details will be revealed at the “A Galaxy Event” scheduled for April 10. Details about availability will also be disclosed then.

Samsung Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A60 key specs and images spotted on TENAA and FCC

The upcoming Samsung phones with model numbers SM-A7050 and SM-A6060 have received approval from TENAA telecom authority of China. These phones are expected to release in China as Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A60. The TENAA listings of these phones have only revealed information on their display size, dimensions and battery capacity. The A60 phone has also been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S.

The Galaxy A70 TENAA listing has revealed that it is fitted with a massive display of 6.7 inches with waterdrop notch. The Galaxy S10 5G edition smartphone is also equipped with the same sized display. There is no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the device since it is fitted with an in-screen fingerprint reader.

The rear shell of the phone that seems to be made out of glass is fitted with a triple camera module along with a LED flash. Through the TENAA certification of the Galaxy A70 has revealed that its dimensions are 164.2 x 76.7 x 7.9 mm. It is packed with a 4,400mAh battery. In the recent past, the Galaxy A70 smartphone have also bagged from Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi certifications.

The Galaxy A60 seems to be equipped with a glossy plastic rear. An oblong shaped fingerprint scanner and an LED equipped with triple camera setup can be found on the back panel of the smartphone.

The smartphone is fitted with a 6.3-inch display which sports a punch-hole at the top-left corner like the Galaxy A8 from last year. The handset receives power from 3,410mAh battery. The device measures 155.2 x 73.9 x 7.9mm. The FCC certification of the phone has also revealed that its display measures 162.1mm which equates to 6.38 inches. Through FCC it has been found that the phone carries support for 15W fast charging, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and ANT+.

The TENAA listings of the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A60 will be soon be updated with their entire specifications in the couple of days. There is no official confirmation on the existence of Galaxy A70 and A60 phones.

Samsung Galaxy A90 key details on storage, color variants leaked; Could be Galaxy A9 (2018) successor (Update)

Update: Leakster IceUniverse has claimed through a tweet that the Galaxy A90 will be the most advanced version of the Galaxy A series and it will be sporting a unique design. He also added that the phone is being built by the Chinese Samsung team and it will be aimed towards the Chinese market.

A report from the previous month had revealed that Samsung may debut two new Galaxy A phones such as Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 in the near future. A newer report from this week had revealed that the South Korean company is also working on three other Galaxy A smartphones such as Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A90. Key details of the Galaxy A90 smartphone have surfaced now to reveal what to expect from it.

The new leak reveals that the Galaxy A90 has a model number of SM-A905F. The handset is rumored to arrive in the market in three color options such as black, silver and gold. Hopefully, these will be color gradient versions.

The Galaxy A90 is expected to arrive with an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. The leak claims that it will be only storage variant of the smartphone. Like the Galaxy A9 (2018) smartphone, the handset could be available in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM editions. Probably, the Galaxy A90 may arrive as the successor of the Galaxy A9 (2018).

The Galaxy A9 (2018) features an 18.5:9 aspect ratio supporting Infinity Display design. However, there is no confirmation on whether the Galaxy A90 will be equipped with a punch-hole screen like the Galaxy A8s or it will be available with Infinity-U or Infinity-V display design. No other information is available on the other specs of the phone.

Speculating that the Galaxy A90 will end up as Galaxy A9 (2018), it may feature an improved quad camera setup. A South Korean publication has recently claimed that the upcoming Galaxy A90, Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A50 smartphones are all coming with under-display fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint sensors for these phones are optical and not ultrasonic that are going to arrive on the Galaxy S10 series phones will debut in the coming month. The Galaxy A50, A70 and A90 phones are expected to go official in Q2 this year. Apart from these phones, Samsung has six other phones planned for 2019.

Samsung to release three Galaxy A-series phones with in-display fingerprint scanners

Samsung is playing catch-up when it comes to certain trends in the mobile industry. For example, it doesn’t have a phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner yet but that should change next month when the Galaxy S10 launches. A new report says the feature will be coming to its Galaxy A-series too.

Samsung to release three Galaxy A-series phones with in-screen fingerprint sensors

According to Korean Media, ET News, Samsung will launch three Galaxy A-series phones with under-display fingerprint scanners this year. The three phones are the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A70, and the Galaxy A50. Based on their names, we can assume the Galaxy A90 will be the most powerful of the three.

The source says Samsung already has suppliers for the sensor and modules ahead of the phones’ release in the second quarter. Aegis Technology is said to be the manufacturer of the sensor module which is optical and not ultrasonic like Qualcomm’s. Mass production will be handled by Partron and Mcnex.

Other than these three, Samsung is reported to have six other models planned for this year too. These will likely come with side-mounted and rear-mounted fingerprint scanners. The Galaxy A-series will also come with multiple rear cameras with some having Time of Flight (ToF) 3D sensors.

Samsung is trying to grow its market share in the mid-range category, so its strategy is to bring flagship features to its less-expensive models.
