Honor’s Flagship Foldable Proves Its Durability with Guinness Record

The Chinese tech giant just announced the global release date of the Magic V5. But ahead of its wider release, Honor’s flagship foldable has achieved the Guinness World Record for ‘The Heaviest Weight Lifted by a Suspended Foldable Smartphone’. The Magic V5 managed to show off its strength by lifting a 104 kilograms in weight. To recall, Samsung achieved praises for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 being thin and tough for surviving the JerryRigEverything durability test.

However, this just took things to the next level for foldable smartphones, which aren’t known for being tough. The Guinness World Records officially recognized this feature in Dubai on 1st August 2025. Honor has attributed this record to the Honor Super Steel Hinge, which it claims can withstand up to 500,000 folds even while lifting over 100 kilograms (under controlled conditions).

Honor is going all in for the upcoming Magic V3 global launch. After throwing down with Samsung and taking jabs at its Galaxy Z Fold 6, the company is now going after an official Guinness World Record. It plans to leverage the lightweight design of the Honor Magic V3 to build the talent House of Cards.

Honor Magic V3’s Guinness World Record Attempt

The Chinese brand announced that it is planning on challenging a new world record with Bryan Berg, who is a Guinness World Record holder. Honor plans to attempt to build the tallest house of cards with Berg, but there’s a surprising catch. The Honor Magic V3 foldable phone will be placed on top of the structure to showcase its lightweight design. To recall, the Magic V3 weighs just 226 grams, which is pretty lightweight considering it is an inward folding phone.

But is it actually possible?

With the Magic V3, Honor is bringing innovation to the design of foldable smartphones. Smartphones like the Magic V3 with a primary large folding screen and a cover display are often seen as bulky and hefty. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a great example of this with its 239 grams in weight. When folded, it measures 12.1mm in thickness. In comparison, the Magic V3 is only 9.2mm thick.

Stephen Marlin, a driver of a GM BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric van has inked his name into the Guinness World Records via his remarkable feat. The driver drove his GM electric van for 260 miles (418km) on a single charge. This happens to be the longest distance traveled by an electric van on a single charge. Marlin’s achievement was announced by General Motors, whose electric van arm manufactured the BrightDrop Zevo.

Marlin drove his Zevo 600 from New York City to Washington D.C., which is a trip of about 418km (or 260 miles) on April 20, 2022. BrightDrop spokesperson, Jessica Kerr stated that Marlin was the first person to achieve a distance of 260 miles. Marlin was driving the electric vehicle under logistics giant, FedEx when he accomplished the feat. The BrightDrop Zevo 600 is an all-electric, zero tailpipe emissions delivery van with impressive capabilities.

The driver was transporting a package of sustainable cleaning products from Full Circle, a FedEx customer. Marlin had set his eyes on the record and he was supported by BrightDrop and FedEx. Officially, the Zevo 600 has a 250-mile range, but Marlin was able to squeeze more traction from the vehicle to reach 260 miles. BrightDrop is highlighting its vehicle after this World Record delivery. It says the delivery highlights the advanced capabilities and clean advantage of the electric van. The BrightDrop Zevo 600 has had a remarkable trajectory and it is the fastest vehicle to market by GM.

Samsung had just recently held an #EpicUnboxing event with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This event took place on March 5 and saw great success since it involved over 1820 customers who pre-booked the Galaxy S22 Ultra across 17 different cities, which set a new Guinness World Record.

This world record was set for the most number of people unboxing simultaneously at multiple venues. The South Korean tech giant had recently broken another record, where its Galaxy S22 series became the most pre-booked Samsung device with over 100,000 orders in just 72 hours. The #EpicUnboxing event was also the company’s way of thanking its early buying customers by giving out limited edition boxed created specifically for this record attempt.

In the limited edition box, customers are treated to a Galaxy Watch4 smartwatch and another surprise gift of Galaxy Buds2 TWS earbuds. Furthermore, the limited edition Galaxy S22 Ultra box also contains a special thank you note in seed paper as well in India. Notably, the world record arrives ahead of the Galaxy S22 series’ launch in India, which is set to officially hit stores on March 11.

Xiaomi presently holds a couple of Guinness World Record titles like Xiaomi’s Play record for the world’s largest mobile-based dynamic puzzle, It also set a record when it opened 500 Mi stores simultaneously in India. Xiaomi India’s giant light mosiac Mi logo also clinched a Guinness World Record title for it’s size.  That isn’t stopping the Chinese tech giant from chasing some publicity stunt. The latest clout chasing effort saw the company clinched the Guinness World Record for a bizzare reason. Turns out Xiaomi held a blind box product unboxing event in the US recently which saw 703 persons unbox several Mi products at the same time.

Before Xiaomi’s record-setting exploit, the previous record of the most people unboxing simultaneously is 643, and was achieved by Mercado Libre (Mexico) at Parque Bicentenario, in Mexico City, Mexico, on 28 September 2019. Participants unboxed a commercially available commemorative pin and after the record attempt enjoyed a concert.

Xiaomi’s Guinness world record event dubbed Mi-stery Box was held at the World Trade Center in New York on December 21. The event happened to be the largest outdoor event held at the centre since it was rebuilt. As the name implies, the boxes were packed with several Xiaomi products which were not labelled in order to bring some element of surprise to the mix. The products include Mi Wireless chargers and others but excludes smartphones.

We can’t say for sure the reason for the event apart from publicity. Xiaomi already has some limited presence in the US with several retail stores in the world’s largest market. Products such as Mi Electric Scooters, Mi Laser Projector, power banks are sold but the Chinese company is yet to officially launch its smartphones in the US. The delay may be unconnected to Huawei’s unsavoury experience when it attempted such move a few years back.

On 23rd December 2019, Guinness announced that the Vivo X30 Pro broke a world record. The title held by Vivo and JD is for the highest number of people in a photo relay, which means the most number of people that took a photo with a single smartphone.

According to the reports, a total of 546 people used the telephoto mode of the Vivo X30 series smartphone. In the challenge, the participants used the device to capture images on the cruise ship Pearl River Crystal in Guangzhou, China. This attempt successfully broke the previously held world record.

Notably, Xiaomi is also one of the only smartphone manufacturers from China that also holds a Guinness World Record. It is for the highest number of physical stores opened simultaneously with about 500 Mi stores being opened across 14 states in India. This was achieved back in 2018 on the 29th of October at sharp 12 pm.

The Vivo X30 series was announced earlier this month at a launch conference by the Chinese OEM. The latest series of smartphones are equipped with the Exynos 980 chipset which is manufactured by Samsung, the South Korean OEM. It supports the SA & NSA Dual module network and features the latest Funtouch OS 10 system based on Android 9 (Pie). Vivo X30 series is equipped with a 64 megapixel primary camera alongside an ultra wide lens and a 60x super zoom telephoto lens which was used to achieve the world record.

Today, Xiaomi unveiled its latest smartphone under the company’s new ‘Play’ lineup — Xioami Mi Play, making it the first smartphone to be powered by MediaTek’s Helio P35 octa-core processor.

Along with the launch of Xiaomi Mi Play, the company has also set a new Guinness World Record using the same smartphone to create the world’s largest dynamic puzzle using smartphones. The company made a Christmas tree of 7.9 meters using around 1,008 smartphones to set the record.

The company says that one of the major difficulties in forming a giant screen/display using multiple mobile devices is to connect those phone’s screens into a matrix and ensuring that all the smartphones are 100 percent in sync. However, the company was able to successfully set the record, beating the previous record of a dynamic mobile-based puzzle, which used 504 phones.

To complete the record, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun put the last piece (Mi Play smartphone) into the puzzle. Later, the same tree-type structure was also made available for the audience. Also, the same structure also doubled-up to provide high-speed internet connectivity to the customers in the shopping mall, which also became the biggest hotspot in Beijing on Christmas Eve, said the company.

Revealing more information about this, Lei Jun said through Weibo post that the company was preparing for this activity since the last two weeks, and the team started making the construction at 4:00 AM and was completed at around 4:00 PM.

As said, the record was set using the Xiaomi’s Mi Play smartphone, which was launched by the company today in China. As we previously reported, the phone comes bundled with an offer that provides free 10GB internet data every month for one year.

The Xiaomi Mi Play features a 5.84-inch waterdrop Full HD+ display and is powered by MediaTek Helio P35 octa-core chipset with IMG GE8320 GPU. It packs 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage but we are expecting other variants to launch in a few months.

For photography, the phone comes with a 12MP 1.25μm primary sensor that is paired with a secondary 2MP sensor for capturing depth details for bokeh images. The front camera is an 8MP sensor with HDR, face recognition, and portrait mode, among others.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and a USB type-C port. For security, it comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It is powered by a 3,000mAh battery which should be sufficient for almost a day.
