The era of dual-fold phones is finally here, and the competition is heating up. Samsung has just made the Galaxy Z TriFold official, and it goes head-to-head with Huawei’s Mate XTs Ultimate Design, the successor to the world’s first commercially available tri-fold phone.

Both devices push the envelope of what’s possible in foldable hardware, but they take drastically different approaches in form factor, display engineering, software, and overall user philosophy.

Folding Philosophy: Inward vs Outward

The most fundamental difference between the two lies in how they fold. The Galaxy Z TriFold folds inward, protecting its expansive 10.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display within a dual-hinge design. When shut, it presents a familiar 6.5-inch cover screen that mirrors modern smartphones. This approach offers greater protection for the main display, especially in high-dust or abrasive environments.

Huawei, on the other hand, embraces an outward-folding Z-shaped form in the Mate XTs. The display wraps around the body, allowing the device to switch between a 6.4-inch smartphone mode, a 7.9-inch intermediate mode, and a fully expanded 10.2-inch tablet. It’s more versatile on paper, but with one clear trade-off: the primary screen is always partially exposed, which could raise durability concerns in the long run.

Display Technologies and Stylus Input

Both foldables stretch out to around 10 inches when fully opened, but Samsung wins on refresh rate. Its 10-inch QXGA+ panel offers a 120Hz adaptive refresh and 1600 nits of brightness, backed by a 6.5-inch 2600-nit cover screen. Huawei counters with a slightly larger 10.2-inch OLED display featuring a 3K resolution and 90Hz LTPO refresh. The company also integrates M-Pen 3 stylus support, which is absent on Samsung’s TriFold, despite its tablet-like ambitions.

This gives Huawei an edge for creative users and productivity tasks, especially when paired with its advanced hinge design that allows multi-angle usage. Still, Samsung’s panel is brighter and smoother, offering a more premium viewing experience overall.

Build Quality and Materials

Both devices are engineering marvels, but their build philosophies differ as well. Samsung uses Armor Aluminum with a titanium hinge and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front, offering a relatively slim 12.9mm folded profile and IP48 water resistance. Huawei goes heavier on materials science, claiming aerospace-grade steel with 2400MPa strength, an eight-layer hinge buffer structure, and a hinge system that allows 0.1° precision.

Despite the Mate XTs sounding like a tank, it manages to stay lighter at 298g compared to Samsung’s 309g. Huawei also boasts a thinner unfolded profile at just 3.6mm at its slimmest point, besting the TriFold’s 3.9mm.

Performance, Battery, and Charging

Samsung relies on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3nm), paired with 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. Huawei opts for its own Kirin 9020 chip, which it claims improves performance by 36% over its predecessor. Both phones pack 5600mAh batteries, but Huawei wins decisively on charging: 66W wired, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse. Samsung lags with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Camera Capabilities

Samsung arms its Z TriFold with a 200MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. It also includes two 10MP selfie cameras, one on the cover and one inside.

Huawei opts for flexibility over raw pixel count: a 50MP main camera with variable aperture, a 40MP ultra-wide with macro capabilities, a 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto lens, and a 1.5MP multispectral sensor for color fidelity. There’s also an 8MP front camera.

Both devices boast powerful cameras, but Samsung’s advanced AI processing and reliable image tuning give it an edge. Huawei’s setup is versatile, yet Samsung may deliver better real-world results.

Software and Desktop Experience

Samsung ships the TriFold with Android 16 and One UI 8, ensuring full Google services and app compatibility. Huawei, still under U.S. sanctions, ships the Mate XTs with HarmonyOS 5.1, which lacks native Google app support outside China.

On the productivity side, Samsung’s DeX mode works natively on the device’s 10-inch display, letting it double as a mini-desktop without an external monitor. Huawei’s desktop mode requires projection onto an external display, making Samsung’s solution more seamless for multitasking.

Verdict: Samsung Has the Edge

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold feels more complete and practical for global users. Its inward-folding design protects the display, while the bright 120Hz screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and full Android 16 with DeX support make it a powerful and polished foldable.

Huawei’s Mate XTs is bold with stylus support and faster charging, but its outward-fold design and HarmonyOS limitations hold it back. For most, the Galaxy Z TriFold is the smarter choice.

Back at CES last week, Huawei showed off its thin, large-screen tablet, the Huawei Mediapad M2. The tab came with a 10-inch screen, large enough for your entertainment needs and featured a thin metal body measuring just 7.3mm in thickness. Now, Huawei has officially announced the device in China, in four different versions.

The Huawei Mediapad M2 tablet comes in two color options, namely Silver and Gold. The base version, i.e. Silver 16GB starts at 2288 Yuan ($347) for the Wi-Fi and 2688 Yuan ($408) for the LTE version. If you want a larger storage version i.e. Gold 64GB, you will have to shell out 2888 Yuan ($440) for the Wi-Fi only and 3288 Yuan ($500) for the LTE version. Not the cheapest of the tablets that we have seen lately, but it features some decent specs to justify the price.

The tablet comes with the Kirin 930 octa-core chipset with Mali-T628 MP4 GPU. There will be 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 64GB memory variants available. At the back, you will find a 13MP primary camera, while, up front, you have a 5MP sensor for things like video calling. The battery isn’t the largest we have seen in the segment, with a capacity of 6600mAh, still, it should be good enough for a day.

Apart from the usual specs, the highlight of the tablet is the fingerprint sensor on board. You don’t usually find fingerprint ID on a tablet, so this is definitely one of its selling points. Another important feature of the device is the on board stylus. This active capacitive pen will further enhance the user experience on the device. Also, you have four 1W speakers with a separate amplifier chip to ensure the M2 satisfies your entertainment needs as well.

The tablet will go on sale in China on January 15.

The rear camera slided up to act as a front facing shooter with flash. Uptil now, we knew it as the ATH-AL00, but it looks like, finally we have a name for the device.

Huawei had said that it will announce something on Aug 10. While we expected a new handset, the company revealed more details about its new Huawei Honor 7i smartphone. The exclamation mark that we saw on the teaser before was actually an inverted i. The company says that the new handset will be called as the Huawei Honor 7i. And its highly likely that the Honor device with the sliding camera is actually the upcoming Honor 7i.

The teaser that says “You Can Change The Vision Together”, along with the image, clearly shows that the phone will be a camera centric device. We haven’t yet seen a sliding camera design on a phone, so can’t really tell what are going to be its advantages. But it should offer better image quality at least in the front camera department, especially with the additional Xenon flash.

As for the specs, it is said that the phone will feature Snapdragon 615 with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. But we saw another version, the ATH-AL00H on TENAA that day, which probably is the higher end variant with 3GB of RAM. We don’t know the size of the camera sensor inside, but we expect more details soon. Also, the pricing is expected to be between 1999 Yuan to 2499 Yuan.

Stay tuned for more details.

But just a few days after this big launch, the company will unveil another flagship product in its mid-range Honor lineup.

The last few days have been flooded with Huawei Honor 4C leaks and it looks like more leaks will follow until the phone is launched on April 28. A few hours back, we saw a whole new set of images of the Huawei Honor 4C model on the internet. The images are similar to the ones that we have seen earlier, but we get to see the phone in a bit more details this time.

One of the interesting aspects revealed by this new leak is the bezels. If you look closely, the phone comes with super thin metal bezels around the sides. However, the display doesn’t extent up to that. In fact, you can see that there is a thick black border which kind of ruins the thin bezel design.

The images also show that the Honor 4C will come with a metal frame and a plastic back. The speakers are located at the bottom, while the camera unit lies on the top left corner. Being a mid-range flagship, the company has not incorporated the dual camera setup that we saw on the Honor 6 Plus.

As for the tech specs, earlier leaks have confirmed that the phone will feature a Kirin 620 64-bit octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The display will be of 5-inches with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. As for the camera, there will be a 13MP unit at the back and a 5MP shooter up front. Finally, the phone will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS out of the box and will come with a 2550mAh battery.

The company is said to unveil three new devices at the April 28 event namely the Huawei Honor 4C Play, 4C Max and 4C Note.

You can take a look at the images from down below.

The source revealed that a domestic manufacturer was all set to announce a Nexus phone later in 2015.

Now, the same source from Weibo reveals that there will be two different Nexus devices this year. One will be made by the chosen Chinese company and the other will be made by LG. If this is the case, then its very likely that the one from the Chinese company could be the affordable variant of the phone. On the other hand, the LG made Nexus could be like this year’s Nexus 6, loaded with the best tech specs in the market but at a very high price. So, finally, Nexus fans may get two phone choices in 2015.

Another interesting point revealed by the source is the processor that will be used by the OEM inside the new Nexus device. The source said that it didn’t know whether the manufacturer would use its own SoC or go with a Qualcomm one on the next Nexus.

Buy Huawei smartphones from the best china online stores.

While it doesn’t reveal the name of the OEM, this gives us a very good idea as to which OEM could be the next Nexus maker. Huawei has its own Hisilcon Kirin processor lineup, which the company has been using in its phones for quite some time now. So, we believe, Huawei could be responsible for manufacturing one of the Nexus phones this year.

If this turns out to be true, it won’t really be surprising given that the company has proved its expertise in the field by releasing phones like the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and even the affordable Honor 6 Plus with dual cameras. So, if the next Nexus has to be powerful and good looking, Huawei could turn out to be a good option.

Anyways, remember that this not official news. Neither Google or any Chinese OEM has confirmed plans for a Nexus release this year, so make sure you take this news with a pinch of salt.

If Google is indeed considering a Chinese OEM, which one do you think would be perfect for making the next Nexus device?

However, that doesn’t mean that the company won’t show off a new product at MWC. The company earlier released a series of teasers which said that “Next Is Here”. It didn’t take much time to figure out that the teaser could be for the upcoming Huawei smartwatch. And now, the company has released a new teaser video which once again could be for the Huawei smartwatch.

The video uploaded on Youku comes with the title, “You can’t imagine your world can be like this”(translated). This Chinese giant is definitely on to something and we have a fair idea as to what it could be.

The company had confirmed last month that it was readying a smartwatch this year. And latest rumors said that the watch was quite good. While we still have no clue about the features of the upcoming watch, the teaser does make us want to believe that Hauwei may have a great feature up its sleeve on the new watch.

We don’t know what it could be, but we hope that its something to do with battery. One of the biggest drawbacks of smartwatches these days is battery life and at this juncture, its very hard to imagine a smartwatch with good specs and display to have a good battery life. So, did Huawei solve this big problem?

Well, we don’t have to wait too long to get to know that since the company will announce the new product on 1st March 2015. We also expect the Huawei X2 to debut at the event. The device is said to come with a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution display, Huawei Hisilicon Kirin 925 processor with 3GB RAM and 5500 mAh battery. The price could be anywhere around 1999 Yuan, which comes to around $320.

You can check out the earlier teasers released by the company from the given link. Also, you can check out the video from here.

There are plenty of alternatives, all offering similar specs with a similar price tag. In the fight for low end market share, companies have to often operate on very low margins which affects their profitability. So, it won’t be surprising if some companies move away from this extremely competitive segment.

It looks like Huawei is going to focus on the high-end market this year as the company vice president Shao Yang recently said that Huawei aims to sell 100 million smartphones in 2015, up from 75 million shipped last year. He also added in a conference call that that the company’s high end lineup such as the Honor 6 and the Huawei P7 smartphone sales increased from 18% to 30% last year.

As a result, the company is not going to release low end smartphones in the market from now on. This is also to avoid the fierce competition in the market led by manufacturers like Xiaomi and Meizu. So, instead of competing in the low end segment, Huawei plans to release more $300+ smartphones in the market.

The company CEO Yu Chengdong said that not many smartphone manufacturers are doing well in the market except for ones like Samsung and Apple. Also, an IDC analysts recently said that Huawei has managed to make a mark in the mid-range segment thanks to value for money phones like the Honor 6 Plus. So, it makes sense why the company is going for the high end segment.

CEO Yu Chengdong also said that the company plans to grow organically rather than through acquisitions in the short term. But he did not entirely rule out a possibility of acquiring a competitor in the long run.

So, what do you think? Is it smart for Huawei to focus on the high end market?
