Last week, Honor began with the reservations of the Feather Red color variant of the Honor 30S phone that went official at March-end in China. As promised by the company, the sales of the new color variant begin from today in the home market.

So far, the Honor 30S has been available in China in colors like Feather White,  Feather Green and Midnight Black. The new Feather Red edition is a blue-red gradient. Like the other color editions, the Feather Red Honor 30S comes in 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage versions. They are priced at 2,399 Yuan (~$337) and 2,699 Yuan (~$379). Currently, the Honor 30S is the cheapest 5G phone from Honor.

Honor 30S specifications

The Honor 30S has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen that features a punch-hole at the top-left corner. The handset supports full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and 20:9 aspect ratio. The Kirin 820 5G fuels the device. The handset ships with LPDDR4x and UFS 2.1 storage.

The Android 10 OS coupled with the latest Magic UI runs on the smartphone. The phone has a 4,000mAh battery that supports 40W rapid charging.

The Honor 30S has a side-facing fingerprint reader and it has a shared SIM slot for adding a nano memory card. The Honor 30S has a front camera of 16-megapixel. Its rear has a quad-camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel main shooter, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Honor launched its Honor 30S smartphone at the end of March this year, making it the first smartphone to come powered by Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 820 5G chipset. The company had announced the phone in four colors — Black, Blue, Green, and a new Feather Red gradient.

While the smartphone has been available for purchase in China, the Feather Red color variant hasn’t been up for sale yet. Today, the company has announced that this Feather Red color which comes in a Blue-Red gradient, will be available for purchase from 18th May and is already up for reservation.

The Honor 30S comes in two variants — 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage which is priced at 2,399 Yuan (~$338) and the 8GB RAM + 256GB Storage model which costs 2,699 Yuan that roughly converts to $380. In its first sale last month, the company sold units worth 100 million yuan in just one minute.

The Honor 30S smartphone features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display. The 1080 x 2400 pixels Full HD+ screen resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. The handset also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint reader for added security.

Unlike last year, you do not need to spend a lot of money for a flagship anymore in order to take advantage of 5G networks. This is a comparison between three of the most amazing 5G mid-rangers and all of them went on sale recently with different chipsets, so different 5G modems as well. Honor 30S is the first smartphone packing the first 5G midrange chipset by Huawei, Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite comes with Qualcomm’s mid-range solution and Oppo Reno3 packs a MediaTek SoC. Design

Despite we are not talking about flagships, these handsets offer a design made of premium materials, including a glass back and an aluminum frame. The front side of the Honor 30S is more attractive since it includes a punch-hole and notch-less display. But the Oppo Reno3 is more compact, thinner and lighter. Further, it comes with a less invasive camera module on the rear side. That is why I prefer it to its two rivals. I even like its gradient colors more.

Display

Honor 30S has a very interesting display since it is HDR10-compliant and it is able to provide a high image quality, especially on streaming platforms. But on the other hand, unlike Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite and Oppo Reno3, it has an IPS display and not an AMOLED panel. Oppo Reno3 may actually offer the most impressive panel, and it also packs an in-display fingerprint scanner, unlike the Honor 30S. With the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite you still get an AMOLED screen and an in-display fingerprint reader, but with a wider diagonal: 6.57 inches.

Hardware/Software

There are big differences between Honor 30S, Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite and Oppo Reno3 if we talk about hardware. They have different chipsets from different chipmakers. On the paper, Oppo Reno3 is the most powerful with a high-end MediaTek Dimensity 1000L, but unlike its opponents, it does not feature expandable storage. Further, it only supports sub-6 GHz 5G frequencies and not mmWave. But MediaTek claimed it is the fastest 5G SoC in that spectrum. Honor 30S and Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite should be more or less at the same level with their upper-midrange chipsets. In each case, you get Android 10 out of the box with a highly-customized user interface.

Camera

Besides being the best performing phone the Oppo Reno3 is also the best camera phone of this trio. Its quad camera setup is the only to support OIS and it captures brighter and sharper photos, as well as amazing videos. Oppo Reno3 looks the best even when it comes to selfies, with its 32 MP front camera. The silver medal goes to the Honor 30S packing a 64 MP quad-camera with a telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom, while you should definitely avoid the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite if you are looking for amazing camera quality.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite will likely be the best device in terms of battery life and the reason is simple: it packs a bigger battery. Given that all of these devices are fueled by 7 nm chipsets, the battery capacity should make the difference more than hardware optimization. On the other hand, the 4000 mAh battery of the Honor 30S supports the fastest charging technology with a power of 40W: it goes from 0 to 70 percent in just 30 minutes.

Honor 30S debuted with a starting price of about €310, Oppo Reno3 costs €440 in its base variant, and Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite starts from €350 globally. Just a few days after announcing the Huawei P40 series globally, the company’s sub-brand, Honor has announced the Honor 30S for China. This will be the company’s upper mid-range device, placed below the flagship P40 series with 5G connectivity. The Honor 30S is the first smartphone to use the company’s awaited Kirin 820 chipset.

The Honor 30S builds on the design of its predecessor. So it features the same rounded corners and the butterfly 3D glass back design as seen on the Honor 20S. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor too! One big difference at the back is the new rectangular matrix camera housing that features four cameras and a flash module. Upfront, the phone features a single punch-hole camera similar to its predecessor.

The Honor 30S comes in four colors: Black, Blue, Green, and a new Feather Red gradient model.

Honor 30S Specs

The Honor 30S comes with the new 7nm Kirin 820 processor. Despite its mid-range placement, the chipset offers incredible performance and AI capability comparable to some of the best processors of 2020. The chip comes with 1 x Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.36GHz, 3 x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.22GHz, and 4 x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.84GHz. Thanks to this chip, the Honor 30S does way better than some of the best flagships in the market today in terms of AI performance. You have Mali-G57 6-core GPU taking care of graphics.

The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. Note that these are LPDDR4X and UFS 2.1 standards, respectively. The Honor 30S has a 6.5-inch LTPS LCD punch-hole display upfront with 2400 × 1080 pixel resolution and HDR10 certification. Thanks to Kirin 820, the phone supports 5G SA/NSA dual-mode standards and Wi-Fi ac, BL 5.1, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Note that there’s no NFC or an IR port.

The Honor 30S also supports a special e-Reader mode (Black & White), eye-protection mode, Link Turbo, GPU Turbo and an anti-aging software feature that the company claims will keep the UI smooth and snappy for more than 30 months.

The phone comes with a 4000mAh battery with 40W fast wired charging. It runs on Magic UI 3.1.1 on top of Android 10.

The Honor 30S comes with a quad-camera setup at the back. The primary camera is a 64MP f/1.8 shooter which is paired with an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom, and 20x digital zoom. There’s another 8MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle lens and finally, a 2MP f/2.4 macro shooter which can take close up shots up to 4cm. Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t get OIS.

The new Honor model supports 4K videos and 960fps slo-mo video at 720p resolution. You also get AIS and EIS for stabilization.

Honor is set to unveil its first smartphone for 2020 tonight. The Honor 30S will debut along with the Kirin 820 chipset that will power the device. Just before the conference kicks off, an Honor exec has shared a couple of samples captured by the Honor 30S’ camera.

The sample showcases the camera prowess of the Honor 3S’s wide-angle and telephoto lens. The Honor exec, Xiong Junmin disclosed that from 0.6x ultra-wide-angle to 3x zoom to 10x telephoto, the Honor 30S image system has a wider focal range, achieving full scene coverage in life.

The vivid, clear shots are not just only because the lens quality is high enough, but also due to the high processing power of the Kirin 820 chip. The chipset is said to use the same in-house ISP 5.0 found on the Kirin 990.

The Honor 30S has previously been revealed to pack a quad-camera setup at the rear in a matrix arrangement. The main camera is also revealed as a 64MP sensor with support for 3x optical zoom. Honor will release full details of the specs during the conference.

At the Honor 30S launch event held in China today, the manufacturer announced the Kirin 820 5G which is the first mid-range 5G processor from Huawei’s HiSilicon semiconductor arm.

The Kirin 820 5G is a 7nm processor that is touted as an upgraded version of the Kirin 810.

Starting with the CPU, the Kirin 820 5G has 8 cores arranged in a 1+3+4 configuration. There is a prime Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.36GHz and it is paired with three other Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.22GHz. The remaining four cores are Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.84GHz.

The Kirin 820 comes with a Mali-G57 GPU with six cores, but the clockspeed wasn’t mentioned. There is also a new feature called Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 that should bring improvements to gaming.

There is 1 Big core for the NPU and a Kirin ISP 5.0 inside the new chipset. The new ISP is 15% more energy-efficient and brings a 30% reduction in image noise with support for BM3D SLR image noise reduction. This is the same ISP used in the Kirin 990.

The Kirin 820 5G is said to offer a 27% improvement in performance compared to the Kirin 810. It also brings a 38% improvement in GPU capabilities. While the new NPU improves AI performance by 73%.

The processor has a built-in modem that supports both SA and NSA networks. It supports 5G dual-mode and five frequency bands – n1, n3, n41, n78, and n79. You can set SIM 1 to 5G while the second SIM slot is set to VoLTE or you can have both SIM slots set to VoLTE.

At the moment, the Honor 30S is still the only phone with a Kirin 820 5G SoC but expect more phones from both Honor and Huawei to launch in the coming weeks and months.

Glory Cheung, Strategy and Cheif Brand Officer of Honor has shared three teaser renders of the upcoming Honor 30S since March 26. The first teaser poster reveals the back of the device, which houses a quad-camera setup at the top left corner. The cameras are arranged in a rectangular block in a symmetrical manner with 3 sensors on one side separated by a line with a single sensor, LED flash as well as AI branding on the other side. Further, the rear panel of the device features a gradient design inspired by the wings of butterflies as per the brand executive.

The second teaser poster shows us the right side of Honor 30S housing volume rockers and power key with an integrated fingerprint sensor. Additionally, this render also gives us an idea about the bump of the camera array, which interestingly looks to be slimmer than the competition even though the phone is tipped to feature a custom large primary sensor with 64 megapixels.

Finally, the latest teaser shared today gives us the first-ever clear glimpse of the device’s front. This confirms the forthcoming Honor 30S to sport a punch-hole display, which was somewhat visible in the teaser for 40W fast charging support posted by the brand yesterday. Also, the punch-hole sits at the top left corner and seems to be smaller than other mid-range smartphones.

All the teasers posted by Honor’s Zhang Xiaoyun flaunted the Honor 30S in Green color, which was leaked a couple of days back. Now, the Vice President of Honor brand, who is known as ‘Honor Bear’ on Weibo posts a camera sample of the device touting the capabilities of new ISP present in the HiSilicon Kirin 820 5G chipset.

The VP of Honor posted the above picture online, which he says comes from the upcoming Honor 30S. The picture also has the device’s watermark confirming it to feature a quad-camera setup like any other smartphone these days. According to him, the image shot from the device has vivid colors and finer details that are visible even after zooming in. He also mentions the presence of new ‘ISP 5.0’ and ‘industry-leading BM3D SLR image noise reduction technology’ in Kirin 820 5G SoC to be responsible for extraordinary imaging performance on the Honor 30S.

In case you have missed, the forthcoming Honor 30S will be the debut smartphone for the Kirin 820 5G chipset. The device is expected as Honor’s first premium model for the year and is said to pack a Kirin 820 chipset. The company has also released several teasers which confirm the device will have a curved display and a gold-accent on the rear camera. The AnTuTu score of the model is equally in the public domain already. The camera sensor is now the subject of a new leak.

According to DigiTrend, citing a “trusted source”, the Honor 30S will feature a 64MP main camera with 3X optical zoom features. The source equally shared a picture which looks like a local promotional poster for the device. Even though the text is written in Chinese, the picture shows the device will use a rectangular camera module design. The module will house a Quad-camera setup as well as an LED flash as has been seen on leaked renders of the Honor 30S. The camera is also promoted to come with AI features but no information was given concerning the other three sensors.

An earlier leak had revealed that the Honor 30S will feature a large 1/1.3 inch sensor on the main camera with a pixel size of 1.2um. The sensor will be of the Sony IMX range but the exact sensor is yet to be revealed.

Earlier today (24th March 2020), a new leak revealed certain details regarding the upcoming Honor 30S. The smartphone is one of the latest device that will be launched by the Huawei subsidiary and will reportedly feature a custom large camera sensor.

According to the source, the image sensor on the Honor 30S has a size of 1/1.3 inch. This doesn’t sound particularly large but is bigger than what most smartphones arrive with. The larger size should in theory provide better low light photography considering more light can be captured by the bigger sensor. Unfortunately, the model name of the sensor is currently unknown, however, its pixel size is said to be 1.2μm.

If the primary camera has a high megapixel count, then through pixel binning, it could potentially reach 2.4μm as well. Pixel binning is generally the combination of 4 pixels into one to increase the size. Thus, it may be similar to Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor, which is found on the 108 megapixel Galaxy S20 Ultra. Although, the megapixel count of the Honor 30S’s image sensor isn’t that high, with the leaked information showing just 52 megapixels.

Unfortunately, finer details are unknown and this is just a leak at the end of the day. So take this report with a grain of salt. Since it has yet to be confirmed, it does leave a possibility of the new sensor actually making an appearance. This would all but benefit the Chinese company’s upcoming Honor 30S launch. Last year’s upper mid-range phones from Huawei and Honor in China such as Nova 5, Nova 5i, Honor 9X, Honor 20S and Nova 6 SE were all fueled by the 7nm Kirin 810 chipset. Honor recently confirmed that the Honor 30S smartphone that will debut on March 30. It will be the first ever device to feature the successor of Kirin 810 i.e. the all new 5G-capable Kirin 820 chipset. Today, AnTuTu shared the benchmarks results of the Honor 30S smartphone. It revealed that the performance of the Kirin 820 5G is better than the rivaling Snapdragon 765G processor from Qualcomm.

The AnTuTu listing reveals that the Honor 30S (model number CDY-AN90) is powered by Kirin 820 chipset. It is an octa-core SoC with quad-core Cortex-A76 and quad-core Cortex-A55 with maximum clocking speeds of 2.3GHz. The SoC also includes Mali G57 graphics. It scored 130,080 in CPU test, 116,516 in GPU test, 66,886 in memory test and 61,788 in the UX test of the benchmarking platform. Hence, it managed to reach an average benchmarking score of 375,270.

The above shown graph shows that the Kirin 820 5G manages to beat the SD765G in CPU, GPU and memory tests and it scored slightly less in the UX test. Its performance is better than last year’s Kirin 810 chipset. Also, it scored around 22,000 points less than the Kirin 980 chipset which fueled most of the Huawei and Honor flagship phones last year. Hence, Kirin 820 5G powered phones are expected to deliver flagship-like experience at lesser cost.

AnTuTu used Redmi K30 5G (SD765), Honor V20 (Kirin 980) and Nova 6 SE (Kirin 180) phones to compare the performance of the Kirin 820 powered Honor 30S. The benchmarking platform claims that the Kirin 820 is a very good 5G SoC and its performance is on par with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000L. The latter was first seen on the Reno3 5G phone that debut in December last year.

Coming to the key specs of Honor 30S that leaked through its AnTuTu listing, it was found running on Android 10 OS along with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The size of the display did not appear on AnTuTu. However, it revealed that the screen of the Honor 30S supports 1080 x 2400 pixels full HD+ resolution. The rear-facing quad camera setup has a 64-megapixel primary shooter. A variant of the same phone with model number CNY-AN00 was approved by 3C authority of China in the recent past. It revealed that the Honor 30S may ship with a 40W fast charger.

Officials from Huawei‘s subsidiary, Honor, have announced that the new Honor Play 9A will be revealed on 30th March 2020. This means that it will be launched on the same day alongside the Honor 30S.

According to the Honor officials Weibo post, the Honor Play 9A will be targetted to the younger demographic and will feature a good battery performance, reportedly running the device up to 3 days on a single charge. The announcement regarding the device arrives was a bit unexpected, considering not a lot of information was teased or found online.

However, an image released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China depicts a device with a triple camera setup. On the front, a single punch hole camera can be observed while the rear features three vertically stacked camera sensors and an LED flash right under the module. The back panel also features the AI branding for its camera technology and houses the rear mounted fingerprint scanner as well for biometric security, with the Honor brand name being on the bottom.

The model number for the smartphone seems to be “AKA-AL10,” since it was found online, in the Ministry’s database. Unfortunately, finer details regarding the device are currently unknown, but it is likely to be a budget friendly handset and will feature 4G networking over the newer and faster 5G bandwidth. Honor is expected to take the veil off the Honor 30 series on March 30 in China. One of the models in the series is the Honor 30s which has been the subject of several leaks in recent time. Ahead of the launch, a leaked sketch of the Honor 30S have appeared online and it shows us the camera design. The Honor 30s front and rear designs have already appeared online in form of leaked renders. However, this sketch not only confirms the rear camera sensors arrangement, but also the design highlight of the camera module. From the sketch, the Honor 30s triple cameras will be arranged vertically at the top left corner of the back panel. The sensors will be stacked in a rectangular module with the LED flash just by the sie of the first sensor.

A major highlight on the sketch is the gold frame accent that would be at the edges of the rectangular module. The gold frame draws inspiration from the yellow eye-ring on the little ringed plover bird known by the scientific name Charadrius dubius. Apart from that the sketch only reveals the presence of the Honor logo at the bottom edge. The device is also shown to have a curved edge design.

The Honor 30s is expected to hit the market as the first model that will be powered by a Kirin 820 chipset. The chipset is Huawei’s second 5G SoC after the flagship Kirin 990 SoC.

While the device has the features of a model to look forward to, the lack of Google Mobile Services is still an albatross that will prevent the model from making good sales outside China.

Honor 30s leaked multiple times over the last week and yesterday the brand even announced the launch date as March 30. Now, Honor’s president has confirmed that the handset will be first to feature the brand new HiSilicon Kirin 820 SoC.

He said that Kirin 820 with 5G connectivity will perform extremely well and it will debut on Honor 30s. This statement is more than enough for us to anticipate the new chip. Because the only widely used mid-range 5G chip is Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, whereas MediaTek’s Dimentsity 1000 / L is only available on Oppo Reno 3 5G yet. With more mid-range 5G chips in the market, more people will get to use 5G networks in the regions where it is available.

The Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 820 5G chipset will likely be based on the company’s own Da Vinci architecture NPU built on the 7nm process. The silicon should use ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores and G77 GPU. Further, the newer ISP and NPU present in it will have support for Kirin Gaming Plus technology.

As per previous leaks, the Honor 30s will feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a quad-camera setup, 40W charging support, and will come in White and Orange gradient color options.

Recent reports had revealed that Honor is gearing up to launch a new smartphone called Honor 30S. The rumor mill had also speculated that the device may go official by the end of this month. The rumors have turned out to be true as Honor released an official confirmation through its Weibo account that the Honor 30S smartphone will be announced on March 30.

The Honor 30S launch date poster only confirms the March 30 date and has no information on its specifications. However, the image highlights the chipset that powers the Honor 30S phone. It is speculated that it will be the first smartphone to feature Huawei’s upcoming Kirin 820 chipset. Since it is said to be a 5G-ready SoC, the Honor 30S will arrive with support for 5G connectivity.

Recent reports have revealed that Kirin 820 will be a 7nm chipset that will come equipped with Cortex-A77 CPU cores and Mali-G77 GPU. The Honor 30 series will be coming on the heels of the Huawei P40 series. Honor is expected to launch at least three phones – the Honor 30 Pro, the Honor 30, and the Honor 30S. Renders alleged to be of the Honor 30 has leaked revealing four color variants the phone might be available in. Some new renders of the Honor 30S have also tagged along.

The Honor 30 is shown with the same cookie camera design as the Redmi K30 Pro whose images leaked yesterday. The camera housing is black on all four color options and has a slight bump to it. There are four holes arranged in a matrix on the back of the phone. We are not sure if there is a sensor in each hole as the LED flash is not visible. If the LED flash is in one of the holes, then the phone will have three rear cameras just like the Honor V30 series.

The Honor 30 stuns in Pink, Blue, Silver, and Purple. We expect they will have more flamboyant names when they are announced.

The Honor 30S render shows the front of the phone which has a punch-hole display. The hole is at the top left corner of the display. This is the first render that shows the front of the phone. The renders that leaked yesterday already revealed the rear design which is similar to that of the Honor V30 but with some slight changes.

The Honor 30 will come with a Kirin 990 processor with a 5G modem while Honor 30S is expected to come with a new mid-range 5G processor rumored to be named the Kirin 820. Honor has not yet announced a launch date but there are reports it will be in April.

There is no word yet as to when the Honor 30S will be launched but a render of the device recently appeared online showing a rectangular cut-out at the rear for the cameras. A new set of high-definition renders of the Honor 30S have again appeared online showing the camera sensors.

The HD renders show the Honor 30S will utilise a rectangular camera design bearing four sensors. The renders also suggest te Honor 30 with stick with the smooth and shiny texture design of the previous generation. This is consistent with the information previously exposed.

However, this is the first time we are seeing the orange color which we are quite familiar with, as the V9 has this color variant. Although the orange color of the Honor 30S is lighter, it also looks very good.

As for the spec, the Honor 30S is expected to be the first device to launch with a Kirin 820 chipset. The processor brings support for dual-mode 5G connectivity as well as 40W fast charging.

Even though the Honor 30S is by no means a flagship model, it is expected to have a huge impact on other 5G mobile phones such as Xiaomi Mi 10 series, Vivo X30 series, Vivo NEX 3 series, OPPO Find X2 series, etc.

There are rumours that the Honor 30S will be released before the Huawei P40 series but we can’t say if that is true or not.

Arrived with a starting price of 1,899 Yuan (~$272) last year, the Honor 20S sported a 6.26-inch IPS LCD panel with punch-hole design. It came with up to 8 GB of RAM and offered users with 128 GB of native storage. It had a 32-megapixel front camera and a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera setup. The phone housed a 3,750mAh battery with 20W fast charging support.
