According to Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the Chinese tech giant is planning on bringing a true cross platform experience on its new flagship tablet. The MatePad Pro (2026) might support PC apps with a user interface. We might also get a new version of HarmonyOS, which could make them offer similar functionality to the brand’s MateBook. In other words, the MatePro Pro fully integrates PC apps, allowing for better productivity as well.

This could blur the lines between a PC and tablet, which is something Apple has been doing with its iPad. However, Apple still locks its flagship iPad Pros, so there is still no direct support for desktop grade applications even if the tablet has enough horsepower for said platform. So Huawei’s next top tablets might have a considerable advantage in this regard. Huawei built HarmonyOS with multi platform integration in mind, so this seems like the next step for a more seamless ecosystem.

As of right now, this is still just an unconfirmed report, so take this news with a pinch of salt. But if this is true, we can expect the PC app support to arrive alongside HarmonyOS 6. Huawei sells its MatePad Pro in 13.2-inch and 12.2-inch (Review) variants, but the next generation could sport an even larger 14.2-inch, which is as tall as a laptop in terms of screen real estate. We can also expect a high resolution OLED display to make a return, along with a new Kirin 9000 series processor.

Huawei is set to unveil its latest tablet, the MatePad Pro 12.2, at its upcoming launch in Barcelona on September 19. For those unaware, the brand already launched the MatePad Pro 12.2 tablet in its domestic Chinese market.

The global MatePad Pro is expected to come with a PaperMatte display designed for improved clarity and brightness, even in difficult lighting conditions. This display is aimed at enhancing both productivity and creative tasks, such as digital painting.

The MatePad Pro will also feature an updated version of the GoPaint app, which will include more brush tools that simulate real-life painting techniques. New interactive features, like ink splatter effects, will allow users to add more creativity to their digital art. We can expect other details to be similar to the MatePad Pro 12.2 China model.

The MatePad Pro 12.2 features a 12.2-inch OLED display offering a 2.8K resolution with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. Other display features include a 144Hz refresh rate, a P3 wide color gamut, and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the tablet features a Kirin 9000S CPU based on a 7nm process. The device has a 10,000mAh battery that supports 100W fast charging. Earlier today (25th September 2023), Huawei held a launch event where it announced a bunch of new products in China. One of these launches includes the new MatePad Pro 13.2″, which is a high-end tablet from the company. So here are all the details regarding its specs, pricing, and more.

Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2″ Design & Display

The Chinese tech giant’s latest tablet model features a tall 13.2-inch display. Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s Consumer Chief, stated that the MatePad Pro 13.2″ is the world’s first tablet to sport a flexible OLED panel. This screen features a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels with a wide P3 color gamut, a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, a peak brightness of 1000 nits, a 3:2 aspect ratio, a 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and Rheinland Global Eye Protection 3.0 certification.

The tablet adopts an edge-to-edge screen design from the front, while the rear features a sleek design and a circular camera module. Notably, it also features the highest screen-to-body ratio in the industry (94 percent). The front also has minimal bezels on the side, a notch on the top, and a thin design. The MatePad Pro 13.2″ weighs just 580 grams and measures an impressive 5.5mm in thickness. Huawei claims that it is the world’s thinnest and lightest tablet for its large size.

Under the hood, the Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 is equipped with the Kirin 9000s, which is the same chipset that powers the brand’s Mate 60 series of flagship smartphones. The company focused on the cooling mechanism as the device houses 52000m㎡ of graphite for heat dissipation and VC liquid cooling. A massive 10,100mAh battery pack powers the tablet that supports 88W fast charging as well. In 40 minutes of charging, the device can hit 85 percent charge, while a full charge takes around 65 minutes.

For audio, the Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 is equipped with 6 dual-channel speakers (dual high frequency and 4 low frequency), supports spatial audio, and Huawei Sound certification. The front houses a 16-megapixel and a ToF sensor, while the rear features a 13-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual camera setup. Other notable features include Bluetooth 5.2, AAC, and LDAC codecs. The device runs on HarmonyOS 4 out of the box and also arrives with the company’s third-gen M-Pen stylus.

This pen uses StarLight technology with over 10,000 levels of pressure and its latency can hit as low as 0ms. As per the official notes, the M-Pen stylus is fast and can offer an improved writing and drawing experience than its predecessor. The stylus was compared to the Apple Pen, with Huawei claiming that the accuracy is 20 percent higher than the 2nd gen Apple Pen. Paired with the tall display, creative users can expect a smooth experience with the new stylus.

Huawei unveiled the MatePad Pro 5G premium tablet in Europe in February this year. The device was made official in China at the end of May. As scheduled, the MatePad Pro 5G is now up for purchase in the home market. Huawei is offering the tablet with a discount of 300 Yuan (~$42) on its first sale.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G went official in China on May 27 in two variants like 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage for 5,299 Yuan (~$750) and 8 GB RAM + 512 GB storage for 6,799 Yuan (~$963). With a discount of 300 Yuan, the buyers in China can avail the MatePad Pro 5G at a starting price of 4,999 Yuan (~$708).

The device can be bought through Vmall in colors like green and orange. The retailer is selling the tablet in Wi-Fi only, LTE and 5G versions.

Huawei MatePad Pro 5G specifications

The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G weighs 460 grams and has a thickness of 7.2mm. The aluminum-bodied slate has a 10.8-inch IPS LCD display with punch-hole design. The 16:10 aspect ratio screen offers 1600 x 2560 pixels resolution. The device does not feature a fingerprint reader and it also lacks a 3.5mm audio jack.

The flagship tablet is driven by Kirin 990 SoC and it is backed by a 7,250mAh battery that supports 40W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. It has a front camera of 8-megapixel and its rear is fitted with a 13-megapixel lens. The EMUI 10.1 based Android 10 OS comes preinstalled on the tablet.

Last year, Huawei announced the MatePad Pro. While it has released other premium tablets before, the MatePad Pro raised the bar higher with its features and design. Huawei is set to announce a less powerful variant soon that ditches the “Pro” suffix and will have a more affordable price tag.

A report from China says the MatePad line may replace the MediaPad line. According to the source, the MatePad Pro was originally termed the MediaPad M7, thus lending further credence to the report.

The question is why is Huawei ditching MediaPad for MatePad? First, let’s go back in time to when the series was first announced.

Huawei announced the MediaPad tablet line in 2011 and its selling point was its audio and visual performance which is why features such as stereo and quad speakers were some of the top features of MediaPad tablets.

Now that tablets are serving as alternatives to PCs and MacBooks, the MediaPad name doesn’t fit for a tablet targeted at professionals. As we all know the MatePad Pro is advertised as a productivity device with a stylus and an optional keyboard. The upcoming MatePad is also being marketed as a productivity device and also has support for a stylus.

Does that mean, Huawei is no longer catering to those who just want to buy a tablet for entertainment?

Not really. Aside from the upcoming MatePad, there is also a third model that is called the MediaPad T that received Wi-Fi certification earlier this month. This model appears to be an entry-level model with modest specs that can be used for reading and entertainment but not productive work like the MatePad and MatePad Pro. Honor also seems to still be in the tablet game, so there should be more options to choose from if you want an affordable tablet.

Huawei should complete the transition from MediaPad to MatePad this year. It is reported that the MediaPad M6 8.4-inch is no longer available on Huawei’s Vmall online store. The 10.8 version may also be pulled down when the MatePad with its 10.4-inch screen is announced.

Last month, Chinese tech giant Huawei launched its high-end tablet in the market — Huawei MatePad Pro. It was announced in four color options — Danxia Orange, Castle Peak, Fritillaria White, and Night Ash.

The device went on sale in China earlier this month but only White and Ash variants have been available for purchase. However, from today, Danxia Orange and Castle Peak color variants, which comes with a leather finish, will be available for purchase in China.

Unlike the other two color variants, the orange and green leather variants are limited to two configurations only and they are the WiFi-only 8GB + 256GB version and the 8GB + 512GB LTE version.

Both of them are priced at ¥4999 (~$713) and ¥5999 (~$856) respectively on Vmall. These models are more expensive than the other variants of the same configuration because they ship with the M-Pencil and the keyboard included.

Coming to the specifications, the Huawei MatePad Pro comes with a 10.8-inch display with rounded corners. The IPS LCD display features a punch-hole for the front camera and supports quad HD+ resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and DCI-P3 color gamut, and also offers a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent.

If you’re looking for a tablet that can double as a laptop, two of the best options are the iPad Pro and freshly-announced Huawei MatePad Pro. Both devices sport super-slim bezels, support for a pen, and a keyboard accessory that you may need for typing.

The Huawei MatePad Pro is the newer of the two devices, though you might be wondering how it stands up to the latest iPad Pro. In this guide, we’ll compare design, performance, and portability, and help you choose the right one for you.

Design

In terms of design, both iPad Pro and MatePad Pro are super slim and pack a large immersive display. There are some notable differences, however. First off, the bezels on the MatePad Pro are just barely slimmer all the way around on the top, left, right, and bottom sides of the device.

The iPad Pro is no slouch however, and you’d struggle to find anyone who would describe its bezels as chunky. Both feature very similar designs, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. They’re both sleekly designed, and it’d be hard to find someone who’d complain about either design.

Display

The Huawei MatePad Pro comes with an 10.8-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and DCI-P3 color gamut. With 4.9mm slim bezels around the display, the MatePad Pro promises a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent. It features a punch-hole for the front camera as well.

The iPad Pro 12.9 has a 2,732 x 2,048 (264 PPI) LCD display with Apple’s ‘Liquid Retina’ LCD tech, which is nearly as sharp and colorful as a typical OLED display. Colours pop out very well and blacks, while not as deep as OLED displays, are still very good. In terms of specifications, both displays are very similar.

Connectivity

Next, there is a need to address connectivity, which is also different between the two tablets. On the iPad Pro, there is a single USB-C port, as well as a keyboard connector port and a nano SIM Slot. On the the MatePad Pro are Bluetooth and a single USB-C port. The MatePad Pro only has a sim slot and GPS on the LTE model however.

Both products lack a headphone jack, which means you’ll need to buy a dongle or use a newer pair of headphones.

Performance

In terms of performance, there’s quite a bit difference between the iPad Pro and the MatePad Pro. For the MatePad Pro, Huawei resorted to using their tried and trusted Kirin 990 SoC, which makes a lot of sense for them. The iPad Pro, meanwhile, sports a custom ARM-based Apple SoC, named the Apple A12 bionic.

Along with the Kirin 990, the MatePad pro also sports upto 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. There is a nanoSD card slot onboard for expanding its storage, which is simply excellent, and it’s something the Apple simply doesn’t offer.

Now onto the iPad Pro. It sports the A12 Bionic processor. This has eight cores and also an embedded M12 co-processor, and it’s already well know for being one of the fast mobile processors around. The processor has been proven to be able to run editing programs and games like Civilization VI with no issues. No matter what you download from the app store, the iPad Pro will run it at breakneck speeds.

Software

Quite obviously, the iPad Pro is limited to apps in the App Store, as it is powered by iPadOS. We’d usually list this as a con, but the Huawei MatePad Pro may have it worse. Considering Huawei’s current position, the MatePad Pro, despite running Android 10, does not have GMS, which means all apps will come from Huawei’s App Gallery, limiting choices.

That said, it’s not all completely bad. There is a multi-screen collaborative feature on the MatePad Pro that allow users to clone the phone’s interface on its screen. This feature can be used to transfer files between the devices conveniently. The cloned phone on the MatePad Pro can be also used to answer phone calls and send/receive text messages. By connecting the optional keyboard, the tablet’s interface will switch to computer mode to offers users with a friendly desktop PC experience.

Battery

Now, for battery life. With the iPad Pro, Apple promises up to 10 hours of battery life, though we were able to push our iPad Pro through several days with a few hours usage at a time. The iPad Pro also supports fast charging, with the optional 30-watt USB-C Power Adapter.

Next, the Huawei MatePad Pro is equipped with a huge 7,250mAh battery that support 40W rapid charging. However, the device ships with 20W fast charger. There is also support for 15W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging on the MatePad Pro.

Accessories

Huawei’s M-Pencil boasts a 10-hour battery life that can be wirelessly charged to full within an hour. The gadget features magnetic absorption and a sensitivity of 4096 which translates to an overall smooth and accurate writing experience. The stylus can be charged wirelessly by simply attaching to the device.

Perhaps the biggest upside to the M-Pencil however is that it’s essentially free with any MatePad Pro purchase. As a standalone purchase, the M-Pencil costs 699 yuan, or $99. That’s significantly less than the $129 Apple Pencil, which is functionally about the exact same as the Huawei alternative.

Finally, both 2-in-1’s sport an option for a keyboard cover. Apple’s Smart Keyboard comes in at the cost of $170. It’s fairly comfortable and has a lot of key travel, as we found in our review. However, there’s no touchpad on board. That holds it back from being a true laptop replacement. It also doubles as a stand, propping up the screen to up to two angles.

Feature-wise, the Huawei MatePad Pro is almost exactly the same as the iPad Pro’s. It features a similar keyboard layout, as well as the same stand prop on the back. Huawei MatePad Pro’s keyboard cover however is that it’s free with any purchase of the MatePad Pro. On its own, it’s 499 yuan or $71, significantly cheaper than Apple’s offering.

Pricing

For the Huawei MatePad Pro, the Wi-Fi only 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage edition is priced at 4,999 Yuan (~$711) and its LTE enabled 8 GB RAM + 512 GB storage edition costs 5,999 Yuan (~$853). For the iPad Pro, prices begin at $799 for 11-inch model and $999 for the 12.9-inch model. The LTE iPad Pros cost $150 more than their base models.

Conclusion

Both these devices are excellent for what they are, but there are some pretty big distinctions to be made between them. The Huawei MatePad Pro is more affordable, comes with a slew of extra accessories and features equally excellent specs all around.

Where the Apple iPad Pro takes the upper hand however is in the OS and software. Huawei’s version of Android 10 is heavily gimped compared to standard Android, and it’s not really even close between it and Apple’s iPad OS. iPad OS isn’t as good as MacOS, but it’s one of the best productivity UIs for touch devices.

If you’re looking for a good deal when it comes to pricing, the Huawei MatePad Pro is probably the better option, but for sheer productivity we feel that the iPad Pro is still the better choice.

Huawei has shipped more than 7 million units of the Mate 30 series globally in the past 60 days. Considering how Mate 30 is still not available in most global markets, this is a pretty big deal. What’s more, this also marks a staggering 75% YoY increase in shipments for the Mate series. It’s very likely that a majority of the units were shipped within China.

Richard Yu also revealed that its Huawei Watch GT 2 is also doing well. The company managed to sell over 1 million GT2 watches in the past 45 days. Huawei is also China largest tablet manufacturer in terms of market share right now, leading over Apple by a considerable margin. The company expects to sell around 2 million units of the Huawei MediaPad M6 by the end of 2019. And with the MatePad Pro, Huawei should further strengthen its position in China’s tablet market in the coming months.

Through an unveil event in China, Huawei announced the arrival of the MatePad Pro. It has debuted as the most powerful Android tablet ever. The flagship tablet is driven by Kirin 990 and it boasts an impressive screen space as it features a punch-hole display. Also, the device houses a massive battery that comes with fast wireless charging support.

Huawei MatePad Pro Specifications and Features

The MatePad Pro measures 159 x 246 x 7.2mm and it weighs 460 grams. The tablet is equipped with a 10.8-inch display with rounded corners. The IPS LCD display that features a punch-hole for the front camera supports quad HD+ resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and DCI-P3 color gamut. With 4.9mm slim bezels around the display, the MatePad Pro promises a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent.

This feature can be used to transfer files between the devices conveniently. The cloned phone on the MatePad Pro can be also used to answer phone calls and send/receive text messages. By connecting the optional keyboard, the tablet’s interface will switch to computer mode to offers users with a friendly desktop PC experience.

The rear shell of the MatePad Pro has a 13-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture. It comes with features like phase detection autofocus and LED flash. On the front is an 8-megapixel camera with f/20 aperture. The device comes with support for M-Pencil stylus that 4096-level pressure sensitivity nib. The stylus can be charged wirelessly by simply attaching to the device.

With Histen 6.0 audio support, the quad speakers of the MatePad Pro can produce surround sound experience. At the unveil event of the MatePad Pro, the Chinese firm also confirmed that it will be launching the MatePad Pro 5G edition in the first quarter of 2020. Probably, it could be fueled by the Kirin 990 5G chipset and it may break cover at the launch event of the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro flagship phones.

The Huawei MatePad Pro launches tomorrow but the leaks are still pouring in. The latest batch of leaks includes a photo of the tablet’s retail box, its screen protector, renders, and specs.

The MatePad Pro will ship in a white box with the device’s name written in gold letterings at the center. The bottom right corner of the box confirms the tablet is powered by the flagship Kirin 990 processor. It also states that the device has Harman Kardon-tuned audio.

Accessory maker, Benks, also gives us a good look at the tablet with the promotional photos of the screen protector made for it. Another image shows a dummy of the tablet and lists some of the specs. Now we know the MatePad Pro will come with a 10.8-inch 2K display, the Kirin 990 processor, quad speakers, a stylus called the M-Pencil, and support for reverse wireless charging.

The deleted review says the M-Pencil weighs 14 grams, has 6 built-in gestures, 20ms low-latency, lasts 10 hours on a single charge and recharges in 1 hour. The tablet itself has a 7250mAh battery, a little smaller than that of the MediaPad M6 10.8.

Huawei has confirmed that the MediaPad Pro tablet will be made official on Nov. 25 in China. It will be a flagship device that will be equipped with a M-Pen stylus. Both listings have revealed some key details of the MatePad Pro.

Huawei MatePad Pro Geekbench listing reveals that it will come preloaded with Android 10 OS. The SoC of the device is coupled with 6 GB of RAM. Coming to the processor of the device, the listing reveals that it is fueled by a HiSilicon octa-core processor that has a base frequency of 1.86 GHz. It is an exact match with the base frequency of the Kirin 990 chipset that powers the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 4G edition smartphone. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the Huawei MatePad Pro has respectively scored 3808 and 11382 points.
