HMD Global Oy’s remodelled Nokia 3310 was first announced back in March as a redesigned version of the rugged, iconic feature phone. The device has already gone up for sale in some parts of Europe and the reception has been awesome. Nokia is yet to release the phone in China but it seems it is just a matter of time before it does. The Nokia 3310 has now been certified by China’s Telecommunications regulatory agency (TENAA).

The Nokia 3310’s TENAA appearance shows the device was manufactured by HMD Global Oy with model number TA-1030. The photos of the feature phone captured from all angles are also attached. There aren’t many details about the specs listed but the device is detailed as supporting GPRS function, dual SIM and dual Standby. The document also shows the Nokia budget phone isn’t manufactured in China but Vietnam.

We already know the Nokia 3310 is a 2G phone which comes with a 2.4-inch curved window screen with an entire dimension of 115.6 x 51 x 12.8mm.  Other specs include a 2MP rear camera with LED flash, 16MB storage expandable up to 32GB, Bluetooth 3.0, Nokia Series 30+ operating system, 2G GSM connectivity, FM Radio, MP3 Player, 3.5mm headphone jack, a 1200mAh battery and MicroUSB 2.0. The device is available in four color options — Warm Red and Yellow with glossy texture and Grey and Dark Blue with Matte finish.  The Nokia 3310 is presently on sales in some regions for  €49 (~$52).

HMD’s Nokia elicited a favourite feeling of nostalgia when it launched the Nokia 3310  at the MWC 2017. The device was announced alongside the  Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 which had earlier made its debut in China. The new Nokia 3310 is a remodelled version of the rugged, legendary Nokia 3310 released in 2000. The feature phone unexpectedly received a lot of attention but one of its major drawbacks was the 2G band which it features.

The 2G network band makes it unsuitable for use in places like the US where the 2G network are gradually being dismantled. Also, some might find it unattractive because of the 2G band. But in a new twist, the Nokia 3310 was spotted on the website of a Swedish retailer and the website listed the 3310 as available in 2G and 3G versions. The retailer is currently accepting pre-orders for both versions.

While this is coming as a surprise, to further confirm the listing, the prices of both versions vary. The 2G version has a price tag of 699 Swedish Krona (~$78), while the 3G version comes with a price of 899 SEK (~$101). Both prices are clearly stated as tentative and could be adjusted when the device is available. But then, HMD has come out to refute the existence of a 3G version of the Nokia 3310. According to the company’s response, the 3310 remains a 2G phone. Despite this response, the retailer is still accepting pre-orders. Perhaps they know something we don’t know. So we’ll watch out for further details as the device is listed as expected in May.

Barely 3 days after we reported that the Nokia 3310 and its senior siblings, the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 were all up for pre-orders in Europe, details have emerged that the Nokia 3310 is receiving an unexpected number of interests. Pre-orders doesn’t transform into actual sales but then, they are indicators of how popular the phone is when it goes up for sale and for a cheap €49 iconic feature phone, that could as well transform into real sales.

UK retailer Carphone Warehouse disclosed this much recently, stating that it received an unprecedented level of demand for the feature phone. Call it nostalgia if you like, but the 3310 was one of Nokia most successful devices in its hey days. The new Nokia 3310 comes with a lot of differences, mostly upgrades in its specs and the design is also totally different but those seem not to have affected the level of interest in the phone.
