Benchmarking outfit AnTuTu has released the ranking of the top 10 smartphones in the month of April 2021. Just as was announced earlier, the models on the list were benchmark using the new AnTuTu V9 for the first time.  

The list is entirely dominated by Snapdragon 888 flagship models which are pretty interesting. The ranking saw the Black Shark 4 Pro retain its number position on top of the chart with an average score of 860467, continuing its strong run-in from last month. However, six of the models that were on the list in March were edged out of the April rankings. The models include the ASUS ROG Phone 5, Vivo X60 Pro+, iQOO 7, Redmi K40 Pro, Meizu 18, and Meizu 18 Pro.

The second spot is occupied by the OPPO Find X3 Pro with an average score of 831801. On the top position is the Nubia Red Magic 6 Pro which averages 828649. Other models on the list include the OnePlus 9 Pro, Lenovo Legion Gaming Phone 2 Pro, Vivo X60 Pro+, iQOO 7, OnePlus 9, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, and the vanilla Mi 11.

AnTuTu also released a ranking of the top 10 best-performing mid-range smartphones. Just like in March, the Redmi 10X with a MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip leads the pack with an average score of 455,838.

The top 10 mid-range models also include the iQOO 3, Huawei Nova 8 Pro, Honor 30, Huawei Nova 8, Huawei Nova 7, Honor X10, Huawei Nova 7 SE, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, and OPPO Reno 5 5G. It is instructive to note that there are six Huawei models on the list of top-performing mid-range models. We expect the ranking to change when that of May is listed, considering the emergence of more premium mid-range models.

Redmi 10X has a more classic and less attractive design than its rivals, but it comes with very high build quality. Indeed, it sports a glass back just like premium handsets. Further, the rear glass and the display are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 by Corning. You do not get such a great build quality with the Honor X10 and Realme V5, but they have a more attractive look: in the first case, you get a full-screen display with a pop-up front camera, while in the second case there is a punch-hole display. Make your choice depending on your tastes and needs.

Display

My favorite display belongs to the Redmi 10X and I think a lot of people would agree with me. It does not have a 90 Hz refresh rate like the Honor X10 and the Realme V5, but it is the only one with an AMOLED display and it even comes with the HDR10+ certification for better image quality. Last but not least, it has very high brightness, so it is visible under sunlight. With the Realme V5 and the Honor X10, you get an IPS display, but they have a high 90 Hz refresh rate which allows having a smoother viewing experience and better gameplay.

Specs & Software

One of the strongest points of the Redmi 10X is the hardware department: it has the most powerful chipset under the hood. We are referring to the Dimensity 820 boasting high CPU and GPU performance. The handset also packs up to 8 GB of RAM. But note that the Honor X10 is very close with its Kirin 820 5G; it does not seem a case that the two chipsets are identified by the same number. Unfortunately, the Realme V5 has an inferior Dimensity 720 SoC, so you will get inferior performances overall. Android 10 is installed out of the box in each case, with a customized user interface on top.

Camera

The most impressive camera department belongs to the Honor X10 which packs a great 40 MP main sensor for its rear camera setup. Right after, we got the Realme V5, at least on the paper. But we have to test it thoroughly in order to establish whether its camera is really valid: given that it went official today, we had no chance to do it. Redmi 10X has a similar camera department to the Realme V5, but it lacks the macro camera and it just comes with three sensors on the rear side.

Battery

The key feature of the Realme V5 is a huge 5000 mAh battery which will allow it to last a lot more than its rivals on a single charge. It even comes with a faster charging technology, with a power of 30W. Right after, we got the Redmi 10X with a 4520 mAh battery and an efficient AMOLED display.

Price

Realme V5 is priced just €183/$215 in its base variant and it wins the value for money comparison. Redmi 10X starts from €238/$280 and it offers a better display and better hardware, so it is slightly superior to its opponents overall. Honor X10 has better cameras and it sits in the middle in terms of hardware, but it starts from €271/$319.

The former features a punch-hole design to get rid of bezels around the display, while the latter has a full-screen display thanks to a motorized pop-up camera. You also get up to 8 GB of RAM. The silver medal goes to the Redmi 10X sporting a Dimensity 820 processor paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage. The OPPO A72 5G is the first phone with the Dimensity 720, but it is an inferior chipset to Kirin 820 5G and Dimensity 820. With Oppo A72 5G, Redmi 10X, and Honor X10, you get a highly-customized user interface based on Android 10.

Camera

According to the specs on the paper, the best camera quality should be provided by the OPPO A72 5G and Honor X10. It is still too early to give a definitive verdict since we did not test both the devices. But we can tell you that the sensors of the Redmi 10X are actually inferior to both OPPO A72 5G and Honor X10.

Battery

The Redmi 10X has the biggest battery and, thanks to its more efficient display and its higher battery capacity, it will last a lot more than its two rivals on a single charge. The Honor X10 comes right after with its 4300 mAh battery and 7 nm chipset. But we do not expect the OPPO A72 5G to be disappointing.

Price

Honor X10 has a €274/$319 starting price, Redmi 10X starts from €240/$280, and OPPO A72 5G costs €230/$197. Despite being more affordable, Redmi 10X is the best choice of this comparison for those who need a better display and longer battery life. But if you want better cameras and hardware, you should choose the Honor X10. With its great cameras and stereo speakers, the OPPO A72 5G sits in the middle and it will probably be a better option for a lot of people if it hits the global market, given that Huawei devices lack Google services.

Ever since Xiaomi announced MIUI 12 in late April, it has been seeding out weekly beta updates to almost all the eligible devices in the company’s home country. Additionally, the firm has been also releasing stable beta as well as stable builds to a number of handsets worldwide. Currently, the smartphone maker has begun to roll out MIUI 12 stable update to Mi 9 SE, Mi CC9 Pro, Redmi 10X and Redmi 10X Pro in China.

The Mi 9 SE is the oldest phone out of these four devices to receive MIUI 12 stable update. However, the builds are based on Android 10 for all the handsets. It is worth noting that the two Redmi phones launched with latest Android out of the box, whereas the world’s first smartphone with 108MP camera got this update in May.

As for MIUI 12 update, as all of them have AMOLED display, they also get support for new AOD+ along with Super Wallpapers. Further, the stable update for both the Mi devices come with build number 12.0.1.0, whereas the build number for Redmi devices is 12.0.2.0.

Having said that, it is not sure when the same update will be available for the global version of Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro (Mi Note 10) and Mi 9 SE.

Redmi 10X and Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth sport the same AMOLED panel with a 6.57-inch diagonal, the HDR10+ certification, and a Full HD+ resolution. This panel is actually better than the display found on the Honor 30 Youth in terms of image quality. On the other hand, Honor 30 Youth offers a higher refresh rate with 90 Hz, so it is more suitable for gamers and it provides a smoother viewing experience. A lot of people prefer a 60 Hz AMOLED display instead of a 90 Hz IPS panel: which would your choice be?

The Redmi 10X series was made official in May. The 4G and 5G editions of the Redmi 10X went on sale at the beginning of this month. In its first sale, the handset met with more than 100 million Yuan in just 5 minutes. The phone comes in multiple variants, but they were not made available on its first sale. Starting from today, the Chinese brand has begun with the sales of the top variant of the Redmi 10X 5G.

The Redmi 10X 5G with 8 GB RAM + 256 GB priced at 2,399 Yuan (~$339) is now available for purchase in China. Deep Ocean Blue, Night Purple, and Hazy Moon Gold are the three color variants of the smartphone.

Redmi 10X 5G specifications

The Redmi 10X 5G features a 6.67-inch S-AMOLED waterdrop notch that produces Full HD+ resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. The Dimensity 820 chipset is present under the hood of the device with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage.

The MIUI 11 based Android 10 OS comes preinstalled on the smartphone. It has a front-facing camera of 16-megapixel. The back panel of the phone has a triple camera system. It is pioneered by a 48-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

After just a year from the first model, the Reno lineup is already in the fourth generation. OPPO just unveiled the Reno4 series composed of the OPPO Reno4 and 4 Pro: both premium mid-rangers and both with 5G connectivity. But are they the mid-rangers with the highest value for money out there or you can find something better in the actual smartphone market? We think there is no better reason to understand this than comparing the new OPPO Reno4 with its most recent rivals in the same price segment. At first glance, you might not notice important differences between the designs of these three handsets. But if you dig deeper, you find that OPPO Reno4 is more premium than its two rivals. It is more compact, thinner, and even lighter than Redmi 10X and Realme X50. Further, it boasts a glass back and an aluminum frame, while Redmi 10X has a glass back and a plastic frame. It is even more elegant thanks to its camera module sporting the same color as the rear side, and let’s not talk about its higher screen-to-body ratio. I do not like the Redmi 10X so much due to its big and central rear camera module, while Realme X50 looks pretty elegant and it adopts the same materials as the OPPO Reno4, but in a bigger and thicker body.

Display

On the paper, Redmi 10X 5G looks like the device with the most impressive display. It is the only device with a display sporting the HDR10+ certification, and it is AMOLED. But this does not necessarily mean it is a better panel: OPPO always used great AMOLED panels on the Reno lineup, so do not underestimate the Reno4. Unfortunately (at least for most of the potential users), Realme X50 5G has an IPS display, but on the other hand, it supports a high 120 Hz refresh rate and it is one of the most affordable smartphones with a so high refresh rate.

Hardware/Software

The most awesome handset in terms of the hardware department is the Realme X50 5G, at least in its most impressive variant. It sports an amazing Snapdragon 765G chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. Redmi 10X 5G offers the same chipset and less RAM (up to 8 GB), while Redmi 10X looks less interesting with its Dimensity 820 chipset, but it is the only with a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage. Android 10 is installed out of the box on all of these devices, with a highly-customized user interface.

Camera

The winner of the camera comparison is the Realme X50 5G which is equipped with a 64 MP quad camera on the rear side, including a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. OPPO Reno4 and Redmi 10X are equipped with a triple camera and they lack a telephoto sensor. Further, you may be interested in the fact that Realme X50 5G is the only with a dual ultrawide front camera. OPPO Reno4 has a dual front camera (and its main sensor is even better than Realme X50 5G), but the secondary sensor is just a depth sensor.

Battery

The Redmi 10X 5G should guarantee the longest battery life on a single charge because it sports a bigger 4520 mAh battery and it comes with a standard refresh rate. OPPO Reno4 wins the charging speed battle thanks to its 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology.

Price

OPPO Reno4 is priced about €370/$418 in its base variant, Xiaomi asks just €200/$226 for the Redmi 10X, while Realme X50 5G is priced €220/$248. While Redmi 10X has a higher value for money, OPPO Reno4 and Realme X50 5G look more impressive. There is not a definitive winner of this comparison as you should choose depending on your needs, after checking the pro and cons of each device.

On the other hand, Redmi 10X 5G still comes with a very high screen-to-body ratio (but it has a waterdrop notch) and it is even well built. It comes with a glass back and it is splash resistant, while Honor X10 does not offer protections against water and liquids.

If you are a gamer or you just prefer having a smoother viewing experience, you should go for the Honor X10 as it offers a high 90 Hz refresh rate. But if you want the best image quality, choose the Redmi 10X as it offers an AMOLED panel instead of an IPS one, as well as the HDR10+ certification. Honor X10 has a slightly wider display, but that is just a minimal difference. Both come with a 20:9 aspect ratio, but while Redmi 10X has a notched display, Honor 10X has a full screen panel thanks to a pop-up camera. Just like the number that identifies them is the same, the performances of the Kirin 820 5G and the Mediatek Dimensity 820 chipsets found on Honor X10 5G and Redmi 10X 5G are very similar. The Dimensity 820 has slightly better results on AnTuTu benchmarks (410K points against 380K points scored by the Kirin 820 5G), but on Geekbench the Kirin 820 takes the crown. The two handsets are equipped with up to 8 GB of RAM but Redmi 10X provides up to 256 GB of internal storage, while Honor X10 stops at 128 GB. Honor X10 and Redmi 10X run Android 10 customized by EMUI and MIUI, respectively. Global customers will not get Google services with the Honor 10X. The handsets support 5G connectivity in its sub-6 GHz frequencies.

Camera

You should get a very close photo quality with Honor X10 and Redmi 10X, and they are not among the best camera phones, neither in the midrange segment. They boast a triple camera setup composed of a 48 MP main sensor (40 MP on the Honor 10X), an 8 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor. On the front side, they both have a 16 MP selfie snapper. You should get a pretty nice camera quality, but nothing special compared to the other devices you can find at the same price.

Redmi 10X has a bigger battery than Honor 10X: we are talking about 4520 mAh against 4300 mAh. And given that both the chipsets are built at 7 nm, both the phones support 5G, and Redmi 10X has a more efficient (and smaller) AMOLED display, we believe that Redmi 10X 5G will last more on a single charge. Note that our opinion is only based on the specs and we still did not test the battery life of these devices. Also note that Honor X10 is still a good battery phone and, unlike Redmi 10X 5G, it supports reverse charging.

Price

Honor X10 and Redmi 10X 5G launched in the Chinese market and both the companies are yet to launch them globally. The base variant of the Honor X10 carries a price tag of 1899 Yuan in China, which roughly translates into $267. The Redmi 10X 5G starts from just 1599 Yuan (approx. $225). The Honor 10X actually offers a higher refresh rate, a full screen design, and reverse charging, but Redmi has an amazing AMOLED HDR10+ display and a bigger battery, as well as a glass back, an infrared port, and a splash proof body making it slightly more interesting. Last week, Redmi had launched its Redmi 10X series of smartphones, which included the Redmi 10X 4G, Redmi 10X 5G, and the Redmi 10X Pro 5G. While the 4G variant went on sale the same day it was announced, the Redmi 10X 5G went on sale in China today.

The smartphone comes in four variants with the base model of 6GB RAM + 64GB storage coating 1,599 yuan (~$224). The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model is priced at 1,799 yuan (~$252) while the 8GB RAM + 128GB model costs 2,099 yuan (~$294). The top-end variant that packs 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model is priced at 2,399 yuan (~$336).

The Redmi 10X comes in three color options — Blue, Violet, and Gold. Do note that only the Redmi 10X went on sale in China today and the Redmi 10X Pro will be available for purchase after a few days, from 5th June.

Coming to the specifications, the phone features a 6.57-inch Samsung AMOLED display offering Full HD+ screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, HDR10, DC Dimming, and 800 nits peak brightness. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor for added security.

Note that with the Redmi K30i you only get 6 gigs of RAM and 128 GB of native storage, while Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth goes up to 8 GB paired with 256 GB of internal storage. Android 10 is out of the box on all of these devices with the same MIUI 11 customization.

Camera

The most awesome rear cameras are mounted on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth. It has the same 48 MP main sensor as the Redmi K30i and Redmi 10X 5G, but it includes an 8 MP periscope sensor with 5x optical zoom, unlike its two opponents which do not even feature a telephoto lens. Redmi K30i is superior when it comes to rear cameras, thanks to its dual 20 + 2 MP selfie camera. Redmi 10X 5G is the most disappointing one as it lacks both a telephoto lens and a macro camera.

Battery

On 5G phones battery life is more important compared to 4G phones, that is why battery capacities increased on 2020 devices. With the Redmi 10X 5G, you will most likely achieve a longer battery life in most of the scenarios since it has the biggest battery and the most efficient components. Redmi K30i has a similar battery capacity, but its wider IPS display with a higher refresh rate will likely be more energy-demanding and it will have higher consumption.

Price

You need just €200/$220 to grab a unit of the Redmi 10X 5G, Redmi K30i costs €250/$275 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth starts from €265/$295. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth wins the comparison thanks to its better cameras, the best hardware, and a very nice display, but just by a low margin. Also, note that Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth has a way smaller battery than its rivals. You should go for the Redmi K30i if you do not care about having the best optical zoom and the best image quality, while there is no valid reason to choose the Redmi 10X 5G unless you want a Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth with worse cameras and a bigger battery.

As expected, after weeks of leaks, rumors, and teasers, Xiaomi-backed Redmi has today launched two new smartphones in the Chinese market — Redmi 10X and Redmi 10X Pro.

The Redmi 10X series come with a 6.57-inch Samsung AMOLED display offering Full HD+ screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, HDR10, DC Dimming, and 800 nit peak brightness. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor for added security.

Under the hood, both the devices come powered by the newly announced MediaTek Dimensity 820 5G chipset. Wang Teng, Product Director of Redmi said that the company collaborated with MediaTek to optimize the performance on the chipset which has managed to score 415,672 points on the AnTuTu benchmark.

Both the smartphones come with support for 5G + 5G dual standby support. This means it supports simultaneous usage of 5G on both the SIM slot at the same time. They come packed with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.

As for the camera department, the 10X comes with a triple-camera setup that includes a 48MP primary snapper, an 8 MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front side, it is equipped with a 16MP snapper for taking selfies.

The smartphones are running the Android 10 operating system out-of-the-box along with the company’s latest MIUI 12 custom user interface on top. The Redmi 10X series is powered by a 4,520mAh battery but the standard model supports 22.5W fast charging whereas the Pro model comes with support for 33W fast charging.

The Redmi 10X is an upcoming 5G mid-range smartphone scheduled to launch in China tomorrow. The phone will be packing some pretty interesting specs such as an AMOLED display and a Dimensity 820 processor.

If you are wondering who the supplier for the display used in the phone is, then you are in the right place. It has been revealed that the display panel is a  Samsung E2 AMOLED panel and this is the same type Xiaomi ships with the Mi 10 Youth 5G.

The screen measures 6.57-inches with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 and a waterdrop notch at the top for the selfie camera. There is HDR10+ support and the maximum brightness is 600 nits. So far, this is a pretty great display for the device.

Ahead of the launch of Redmi 10X series smartphones in China on 26th May, Lu Weibing, General Manager of the Redmi brand the President of Xiaomi China has revealed some important details about the Redmi 10X Pro.

He has confirmed that the smartphone will come with a quad-camera setup on the back, featuring support for 30X zoom and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). With this, the phone becomes the second Redmi device to have OIS support after Redmi K30 Pro.

The camera sample shared by the company showcases starry track mode in the camera. Wang Teng, Product Designer at Xiaomi says that capturing such images usually requires DSLR camera and needs multiple manual settings adjustments, but it can be easily done with the Redmi 10X’s Romantic Star Track mode.

The smartphone is confirmed to come with an AMOLED display panel where the screen size is said to be 6.57-inch, 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution, and 20:9 aspect ratio. It will also be the first device to come powered by the newly launched MediaTek Dimensity 820 chipset.

The Redmi 10X smartphone is scheduled to go official on May 26. It is expected to launch as the first smartphone powered by the Dimensity 820 5G chipset. Two images showing the phone’s display and its Always-On Display feature have been shared by the executives of the company.

The company has already confirmed that the Redmi 10X is equipped with an AMOLED panel which allows it to support Always-On Display (AOD) feature. It makes it possible for the display to show limited information like time, date, battery status and notifications, and so on without turning on the entire screen. Redmi will be announcing Redmi 10X, a budget 5G smartphone powered by Dimensity 820 on May 26 in China. Ahead of it, the brand has started teasing the features of the handset on Weibo. Today’s teasers confirmed the phone to come with AMOLED display, in-screen fingerprint sensor and MIUI 12.

The presence of AMOLED display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor in Redmi 10X was almost certain since the same was already spotted on TENAA. However, the certification portal mentions the device with its model number M2004J7AC rather than its marketing name.

A teaser video posted by Redmi today (attached above) also suggests the Redmi 10X will be the first phone with MIUI 12 out of the box. The video showcases Super Wallpaper and AOD+ dynamic styles on the handset.

Further, we think the render shared by the brand is of Redmi 10X Pro with model number M2004J7BC since the regular Redmi 10X (M2004J7AC) is expected to feature triple camera setup according to TENAA unlike quad-camera found in the render.

So far, Redmi has launched four 5G smartphones in China and they are Remdi K30 5G, Redmi K30 Pro, Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition, and Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition. These phones start from 1,999 Yuan ($281) and go up to 3,999 Yuan ($563).

Redmi has a launch event scheduled for May 26 where it will unveil several products. One of the products expected is the Redmi 10X which will be the first phone to be powered by the new Dimensity 820 processor. Redmi has, today, shared a new poster of the device and it confirms the phone will indeed launch next week.

The poster shows Redmi brand ambassador, Wang Yibo of the Chinese–South Korean band, UNIQ, holding the phone. The Weibo post says the Redmi 10X series will be announced on May 26 at 2 PM (China time).

The Redmi 10X will have four rear cameras. The phone will also have a 6.57-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint scanner. It has been reported to have up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone will also run Android 10 with MIUI on top.

Alongside the standard version, there will also be a Redmi 10X Pro and a 4G version of the phone. This Pro variant should have better specs and of course a higher price tag.

The Redmi Note 9 series wasn’t announced in China but the home-country of the manufacturer will be getting another device called the Redmi 10X. Scheduled to launch soon, new details have surfaced with respect to the configuration and color variants that will be available at launch.

According to a leak by Ishan Agarwal in partnership with 91Mobiles, the Redmi 10X will launch in 4G and 5G variants and the two will have different configurations and colorways.

Redmi 10X 4G

The Redmi 10X 4G will be available in just two configurations – 4GB+128GB and 6GB+128GB. Buyers will be able to choose from White, Sky Blue, and Green color variants.

Previous reports have revealed the phone will have a 6.53-inch display with a punch-hole at the corner. It will also have an Helio G70 processor, 48MP quad rear cameras, a 13MP selfie camera, and a 5020mAh battery capacity.

Redmi 10X 5G

The Redmi 10X 5G will be available in three configurations – 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB. The available color variants are Dark Blue, Violet, Gold, and Silver.

Last week, the Redmi 10X reportedly made an appearance on Google Play Console revealing some of the specs and its codename. A Xiaomi model listed as Xiaomi M2003J15SC and suspected to be the Redmi 10X has made an appearance on GeekBench.

The model appeared on the database on May 11 and is listed to run o Android 10 operating system. It also features an octa-core MediaTek MT6769Z processor which is likely the Helio G70 listed earlier in the Google Play Console listing.

This listing again reaffirms speculations that the Redmi 10X is just a renamed Redmi Note 9 for the Chinese market. The Redmi Note 9 appeared on GeekBench back in March with the same Xiaomi Merlin codename and a MediaTek MT6769V processor.  The GeekBench score is also similar to this new model. The twist is that the Redmi Note 9 was launched with an Helio G85 chipset. Thus, we can’t be so sure about an Helio G70 SoC on the Chinese version.

We’ll have to wait for more details to emerge.

Just about the same time when the Redmi 9 was spotted on Xiaomi‘s RF Exposure website, the Redmi 10X also reportedly made an appearance on Google Play Console listing. The Redmi 10X has been considered an unusual name since we are having the Redmi 9 series this year. But the rumours have continued to gain ground with the phone said to be a rebranded Redmi Note 9 for the Chinese market. However, the Google Play Console listing suggests otherwise.

The listing shows that the Redmi 10X 4G would bear the codename Merlin and will feature a MediaTek Helio G70 processor instead of the Helio G85 chipset that’s powering the Redmi Note 9. The processor is bundled with a Mali G52 GPU firing up the graphics. The smartphone will also come with 3GB RAM but we expect other options.

This device can easily be confused with the Redmi 9 which is expected to pack a similar specs lineup. However, the presence of an FHD+ resolution of 1080×2340 pixels should do the trip in distinguishing them as separate entities. The device will run on Android 10.

However, we won’t put all our cards on this one since the source isn’t given. So take this with a grain of salt.

Redmi Note 9 series has launched globally but it is yet to debut in China. Instead, the brand unveiled Redmi K30 Pro in the region. According to rumours, it will be announced soon in the region but with different specs. Additionally, we might see a surprise product as well according to Lu Weibing, the brand’s general manager.

In April, we did not see any new product launch by Redmi in China. However, its parent company Xiaomi announced Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro in Europe alongside Mi Note 10 Lite and Mi Smart Standing Fan 1C.

Now, a post on Weibo by Mr Weibing suggests something different will be unveiled by the end of May in the brand’s home country. Speculations say it could be long-rumoured Redmi Note device with 5G connectivity.

Xiaomi’s plans for affordable 5G smartphones

Late last year, Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun said 999 Yuan ($141) 5G phone will be a real thing by 2021. Further, an internal document leak from last month also suggested such a handset will be launched by the company before the end of this year.

The document also hinted the release of 1,799 Yuan ($254) Redmi K30i and another mystery 5G phone priced at 1,599 Yuan ($225). We believe Lu Weibing is teasing the latter phone to be a surprise since according to the document, it will be launched in June. Hence, announcing it a month prior is a possibility just like the Redmi K30 5G in December 2019.

In fact, if it is true, we might see a couple of 5G-ready Redmi Note devices as two mysterious handsets were recently spotted on 3C certification. The only information we know about these devices is their model numbers and charging speeds – M2004J7AC (22.5W) and M2004J7BC (33W).

Also, there’s another handset called Redmi 10X, which was too found on 3C listing a few days back. Unlike the previously mentioned devices, this one will only support 4G and will be powered by MediaTek Helio G85.

Anyway, the Redmi K30i is also yet to launch officially although its release was supposed to happen in April according to the leaked document. So it is possible the surprise teased by Redmi’s general manager for May could be this device instead. 

However, the above-discussed phones, especially the 5G Redmi Notes could be the stars of the launch event as the executive announced Redmi Note 8 series to sell over 30 million units globally earlier today.
