<p>In a rare public meeting held in Shenzhen, China, Ren Zhengfei, the CEO of Huawei Technologies, engaged in discussions with senior executives from PetroChina, led by Dai Houliang, the chairman of China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) and PetroChina. The meeting, which also coincided with Dai Houliang&#8217;s visit to Huawei&#8217;s Computing Innovation Lab, focused on key agendas concerning corporate governance, digital transformation, and scientific innovation.</p>

<p>One of the primary discussion points revolved around PetroChina&#8217;s initiatives in low-carbon energy, highlighting their progress towards peak carbon emissions and their ambitious goals for doubling the contribution of low-carbon energy to their total output capacity within the next two years.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="669" height="827" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-179.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-614836" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-179.png 669w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-179-243x300.png 243w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-179-324x400.png 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/image-179-340x420.png 340w" sizes="(max-width: 669px) 100vw, 669px" /><figcaption>Ren Zhengfei &#8211; Huawei</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The collaboration between CNPC and Huawei has yielded significant advancements, particularly in the development of a cognitive computing platform named E8. This platform leverages AI technologies to provide intelligent analyses for oil and gas exploration and production, marking a pivotal step towards modernizing operations in the energy industry.</p>

<p>Past collaborations between Huawei and PetroChina were also highlighted, including their joint efforts in building PetroChina&#8217;s first comprehensive energy service station in Beijing, integrating various energy services with non-energy businesses.</p>

<p>Ren Zhengfei&#8217;s recent public appearance highlighted Huawei&#8217;s financial performance in 2023, with profits doubling year-on-year despite US sanctions. Growth sectors for Huawei included cloud computing, with operations spanning over 170 countries and regions, encompassing digital transformation initiatives across industries, including energy.</p>

<p>The meeting between Huawei and PetroChina signifies a significant step towards fostering collaboration between technology and energy sectors, aiming to drive innovation and sustainability in the global landscape. As both entities continue to pursue digital transformation and scientific innovation, their partnership holds promise for addressing pressing challenges in the energy industry while unlocking new opportunities for growth and development.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/tech-war/article/3138933/us-china-tech-war-huawei-founder-ren-zhengfei-tells-his-employees" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>SCMP</em> </a>report, the senior executive of the Chinese tech giant made the statement despite the US having applied pressure through various sanctions on the company. Ren Zhengfei made this statement in a company forum back in May 2021. This speech was published the brand&#8217;s internal online forum earlier this week. During this forum, the founder also answered questions from employee representatives.</p>
<p>This includes questions regarding the company&#8217;s continues to face under US sanctions that have <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/18/tsmc-halts-new-huawei-orders/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">cut Huawei off from key technologies</a>. In a response to a question if the brand should focus more on the China market due to US sanctions, Ren stated that &#8220;Is China a part of the world? Yes. Therefore, our insistence on globalization also includes the domestic market. We cannot be closed. We must stay open.&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-276102 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg?x10805" alt="Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO" width="890" height="501" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg 890w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" /></p>
<p>The official added that the firm still needs to learn from the US since the country is flexible as well as stronger in both science and technology. Ren further added that &#8220;Just because the US is trying to suppress us does not mean we do not recognize it as a teacher. This will lead to isolation.&#8221; In other words, Huawei still aims on expanding its presence in the global market.</p>

<p>Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, in an internal memo to the staff of the company, has thrown the gauntlet to the company by encouraging them to provide leadership to the world via software development. Huawei has continued to pursue its development and growth beyond its original hardware operations that were brought to a halt by the US sanctions.</p>
<p>The content of the internal memo, seen by Reuters, is a clear indication of the new direction the company plans to focus on. Ren had noted that Huawei was focusing on software development because success in the field will cut off the massive influence wielded by the US and guarantee independence and autonomy.</p>
<p>The recent development has already yielded the HarmonyOS operating system, which was developed in-house by the company in the wake of the US blockade. Other software solutions include the cloud AI system Mindspore and similar IT products. The new approach will be open source driven and Huawei will continue to pursue its development and deployment.</p>
<p>The goal obviously is to completely bypass the US and its allies in the deployment of software solutions for its operations. This would limit the influence and interference of the US government. In his view, once the company is able to dominate Europe, the Asia Pacific, and Africa, and if the US standards don&#8217;t match Huawei&#8217;s, then there will be a reciprocity of restrictions between both sides.</p>
<p>This looks like a good move as there is no sign of a respite in sight for the Chinese company. The current US administration is yet to make any concessions after former president Donald Trump imposed the restrictions.</p>

<p>According to an <a href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/big-tech/article/3122946/huawei-founder-ren-zhengfei-aims-make-first-class-products-third" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>SCMP</em> </a>report, the senior executive made the statement to highlight the company&#8217;s aim to sharpen its focus to ensure the survival of the brand. Ren said that the company must try to use &#8220;third class&#8221; components to manufacture &#8220;first class&#8221; products during an internal meeting, which arrives amid its struggles caused by the US trade restrictions. The Founder stated that &#8220;In the past, we have ‘spare parts’ for high-end products. But now the US has completely blocked Huawei’s access [to such components] and even commercialized products cannot be supplied to us.”</p>
<p>He further added that the Chinese tech giant has to &#8220;work hard to sell products and services that can be sold and [help] maintain the market position of [its]core business” in 2021. “In terms of market strategy … we must dare to abandon some countries, some customers, some products and some scenarios.&#8221; This statement is in line with Ren&#8217;s previous speech, in which he said that the company has to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/25/huawei-focus-profits-survival-calls-decentralisation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">decentralize its operations, while also simplifying its product line</a> and focusing on generating profit to survive the US sanctions.</p>

<p>Notably, Nicole Peng, vice-president of mobility at research firm Canalys stated that &#8220;It is already very challenging for Huawei to fight to survive, but the burden of developing China’s technology supply chain is way harder for a single company to bear. I believe that’s an area where Huawei wants to position itself to become one of the core pillars in China’s tech supply chain’s independence.” Similarly, Ren further added that &#8220;It will be difficult for us to rely solely on hardware to lead the world for a long time. We have to rely on software to remedy it.”</p>

<p>According to an <a href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/enterprises/article/3118902/huawei-founder-ren-zhengfei-calls-decentralisation-focus-profits" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>SCMP</em> </a>report, the senior Huawei executive also called for the company to simplify its product lines, and maintain pay levels for the next three to five years to survive the US trade restrictions. The CEO and founder made the announcement in a published speech that was made public earlier this month. Ren had made the speech back in June 2020. For those unaware, the US sanctions have severely impacted the operations of the Chinese tech giant and had even led it to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/17/huawei-sells-honor-subsidiary-to-zhixin-new-information-technology-co-ltd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">sell off its budget smartphone manufacturing unit, Honor</a>.</p>
<p>Now, the company is doubling its efforts to expand its business in other areas, after its smartphone operations having been nearly crippled. At the moment, Huawei is working on growing its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/04/huawei-cloud-services-us-sanctions-hamper-smartphone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">presence in areas like cloud computing/services and even smart cars</a>. Ren stated that &#8220;There’s a big mismatch between our ability and strategy. It’s our weak link, and we are forced to start from the beginning like elementary school students.” He even referred to the Chinese proverb of &#8220;the cleverest housewife cannot cook a meal without rice”, adding that the company has neither &#8220;a clever wife” nor has its “own rice”.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_276102" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-276102" style="width: 890px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-276102 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg?x10805" alt="Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO" width="890" height="501" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg 890w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-276102" class="wp-caption-text">Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The official also added that &#8220;Please don’t be upset because of the temporary US pressure, or give up on our globalization strategy. There’s no future without embracing globalization [in development and research].” Ren believes that Huawei must operate as normal and must also find ways to motivate people. He said that &#8220;hundreds of Huawei cadres” had even offered to go through a demotion, to showcase the dedication of the team.</p>

With the financials details remain unknown, it is said that a consortium of over 30 agents and dealers of the Honor brand and the Shenzhen Smart City Development Group Co. Ltd. bought the company for around $15.2 billion.</p>
<p>Now, at a farewell party for Honor, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ren-zhengfei">Ren Zhengfei</a>, founder of Huawei, said that he hoped Honor to become Huawei&#8217;s strongest global competitor and even surpass the former parent company, which could be the company&#8217;s motivation going forward. This was <a href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/gear/article/3111577/chinese-founder-ren-zhengfei-says-he-hopes-honor-will-surpass-huawei">reported by</a> the South China Morning Post (SCMP).</p>

<p>Explaining the reason behind the sale of Honor, Ren said that the sanctions imposed by the United States threatened millions of jobs, as well as supplies from the company&#8217;s dealers and agents from 170 countries around the world.</p>
<p>Further, he added that Honor will face problems unlike any other new companies and called on the company&#8217;s employees to embrace globalization and learn from companies in the UK, US, EU, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea.</p>
<p>Honor was formed as a sub-brand of Huawei in 2013 and since then, it has become of the leading smartphone brands globally, shipping more than 70 million units annually. <p>According to the senior official when addressing new employees, &#8220;We have had to modify thousands of electronic boards, replace parts, and algorithms to cope with … (the ban) from the US.” As per the <a href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/big-tech/article/3100203/huawei-has-had-make-constant-tweaks-products-cope-us-bans-founder-ren" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>South China Morning Post</em></a> report, the US is cracking down hard on the Chinese tech giant. After<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/18/tsmc-halts-new-huawei-orders/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> losing its chip supply from TSMC</a>, the Trump administration made supplying even more difficult for the company by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/17/us-reinforces-restrictions-on-huaweis-access-to-chips-and-other-tech/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reinforcing laws that regulate Huawei from receiving supplies</a> from any company that uses American technology.</p>

<p>This has greatly affected the company&#8217;s supply chain. Thus, in the Ren Zhengfei stated that Huawei makes constant changes to multiple parts and components in their products while also tweaking its algorithms as well, to better evolve against the US sanctions that seek to remove technology originating from the US. The founder even acknowledged the company&#8217;s dire situations at the moment.</p>

<p>Huawei has been caught in the middle of the trade wars between China and the US. The company was placed on the &#8220;Entity List&#8221; last year and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/20/huawei-banned-from-using-google-services-future-phones-to-feature-proprietary-os/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">had even lost support from Google</a>. Despite all of this, the Chinese tech giant has been steadfast about its sourcing, with the senior executive stating that the company will not look for replacements. According to Zhengfei, Huawei has spent 18 billion US Dollars in 2019, which is a large increase from just 11 billion US dollars before that.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/28/xiaomi-unveils-new-miui-camera-app-all-features-supported-devices-update-timeline/">Xiaomi unveils new MIUI Camera app: All Features, Supported Devices &amp; Update Timeline</a></strong></h6>
<p>Yesterday, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/27/huawei-founder-it-will-take-no-longer-than-300-years-to-surpass-android-and-apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">we had covered similar statements that Ren had mentioned in the interview</a>. The CEO emphasized greatly on maintaining a friendly relationship with its foreign supply chains, especially from the US, and believes that America &#8220;will always be our good friend.” Furthermore, Another senior official had also revealed that alternatives were available but they continue with US parts “to maintain good relationships with its American suppliers.”</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-313672 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei P40 Pro Plus" width="500" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus.jpg 500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Huawei-P40-Pro-Plus-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></p>
<p>Interestingly, Ren Zhengfei stated that &#8220;The proposal of a few US politicians does not fully represent the opinion of the US government. Many US companies have been approved by the US Department of Commerce to supply us with spare parts.&#8221; Thus, the Founder believes that there is no pressuring reason to shift sourcing from the region in favor of other countries or even it&#8217;s home country. The recently launched flagship <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-p40/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Huawei P40</a> series serves as a great example as the internals did arrive with a few but the important US made parts from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Qualcomm</a>, Skyworks, Qorvo, and more.</p>

<p>Huawei has been caught in the center of the trade tensions between the US and China. The Chinese tech giant faced various complications in the west after the US Commerce Department place the company on the &#8220;Entity List.&#8221; This banned Huawei from buying or selling products with US Based companies and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/20/huawei-banned-from-using-google-services-future-phones-to-feature-proprietary-os/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">also saw the OEM lose official support from Google</a>. Since then, the company has been striving to make its own OS, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HarmonyOS</a> (HongMengOS in China), but it seems it is still lacking, according to the founder.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_276102" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-276102" style="width: 890px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-276102 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg?x10805" alt="Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO" width="890" height="501" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg 890w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-276102" class="wp-caption-text">Ren Zhengfei, Huawei founder and CEO</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Despite the strict restrictions and regulations being imposed on the brand, Ren Zhengfei said that &#8220;We are not thinking of replacing US components. The US will always be our good friend.” As of right now, American companies with a special license to deal with Huawei are the only ones that can trade with the Chinese OEM. Notably, Yu Chengdong, the CEO of the Consumer Business Group of Huawei, also mentioned that the company had alternatives to US parts but are still using them &#8220;to maintain good relationships with its American suppliers.&#8221;</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/27/xiaomi-announces-mi-10-youth-5g-launch-50x-telephoto-zoom/">Xiaomi announces Mi 10 Youth 5G in China with SD765G and 50x telephoto zoom camera</a></strong></h6>
<p>According to the Founder, HarmonyOS will take at least 300 years to trump its competition, which are the industry leading giants, iOS and Android. He further added that &#8220;It would be OK if we didn’t use US components, but what happens if consumers don’t buy our products. The operating systems of Android and Apple have enjoyed massive sales in the world as consumers have become accustomed to them. Huawei is a latecomer, so it would be very difficult to surpass the operating systems of Android and Apple.&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-283182 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /></p>
<p>The CEO even mentioned the &#8220;friendly&#8221; relationship Huawei has with both Apple and Google, and in cooperation for the development of 5G networking in recent times. Another reason for Huawei to shift to completely locally sourced parts is the Coronavirus pandemic. The outbreak has caused various complications in the global supply chain and is even affecting economies worldwide. The senior executive believes that moving supply chains to local countries is a terrible decision since no one country can be totally self sufficient, just like a company and its sources.</p>

<p>According to the senior executive, he hopes to be forgotten over time and his biggest wish &#8220;is to drink coffee in a cafe unnoticed.” Ren Zhengfei went on to say that “I’m just an old man. What’s the point of remembering me? People should think more about the future and the world.” This is easier said than done considering his position in the Chinese tech giant, which is also currently in the epicenter of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/us-china-trade-war/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">US and China trade wars</a>.</p>

<p>In recent times, Huawei has been facing numerous complications and hindrances by the US government. This led to Ren to finally stepping out from his<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/18/huawei-founder-retirement-plans-spoiled-due-to-the-us-ban/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> management position behind the stages and take the reigns of the company again after years</a>. <p>Despite certain long time employees calling Ren &#8220;the definite leader, the spiritual leader in Huawei,” he considers himself to be just a puppet to the Rotating Chairmen. In Huawei&#8217;s top brass, there are three Rotating Chairman that cycle between one another to lead the company. The constant cycling is done to prevent ideas and creativity to lower under single management and apparently Ren abides by them as well.</p>

<p>Earlier today (18th December 2019), the Chinese company publicized an interview of the Senior executive who was addressing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">5G network</a> development in Latin America, Huawei&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmony-os/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HarmonyOS</a> (HongMengOS in China), and temporary extensions. In the conference, Zhengfei was asked by a reporter regarding his retirement plans. He answered this by mentioning the US Government&#8217;s actions to suppress the company had motivated him.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_283182" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-283182" style="width: 2544px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-283182 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg?x10805" alt="HarmonyOS" width="2544" height="1422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos.jpg 2544w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-696x389.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1068x597.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-751x420.jpg 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/harmonyos-1920x1073.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2544px) 100vw, 2544px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-283182" class="wp-caption-text">HarmonyOS (HongMengOS in China)</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Reportedly, the CEO was planning on retiring soon but the sudden ban in early 2019 led him to work for the public relations department of Huawei. Following this, Ren Zhengfei stated Huawei&#8217;s plans in Spain to build the best 5G network in Europe and further went on to mention Huawei&#8217;s cooperation with Telefonica in Latin America. Notably, the company is also facing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/28/huawei-banned-by-spains-ministry-of-defense-from-accessing-sensitive-information/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">issues with the Spanish Government regarding security concerns</a>.</p>

<p>The Founder also answered questions regarding its HarmonyOS&#8217; relationship between <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/google/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google</a>&#8216;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android</a> system and whether the extension of temporary licenses by the US Government affects the company. According to Zhengfei, the HarmonyOS will be open source for each country similar to Android OS but will have no ties with the latter and also will be completely separate with its own ecosystem and app development.</p>

<p>The proprietary OS would help the company lessen its reliance on western-based companies, a move the company supports every country in making. This would also help its OS achieve digital sovereignty. Huawei&#8217;s CEO even stated that whether or not the US Government extends its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/07/10/us-govt-issues-licenses-trade-huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">temporary licensing</a> to its business partners is irrelevant and will have no effect on the company.</p>

But that doesn&#8217;t rule out the possibility of Huawei becoming world&#8217;s no.1 even with the ban in place.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-276102" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg?x10805" alt="Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO" width="890" height="501" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg 890w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" /></a></p>
<p>Huawei&#8217;s CEO and founder, Ren Zhengfei said in an interview with CNN that Huawei can become the world&#8217;s no.1 smartphone maker even without Google. When asked whether the company had a backup plan, Ren said that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> is working on a large scale solution to tackle this situation. He was likely referring to the company&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmony-os">HarmonyOS</a> platform that was announced back in August in China.</p>
<p>He also said that he doesn&#8217;t know whether <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> was &#8216;definitively &#8216;denied a license to trade with Huawei. This response comes at a time when some companies have been granted a license to trade with the telecommunications giant. For example, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/25/microsoft-granted-huawei-trade-license-matebook-windows-10/">Microsoft recently got a license to export software to Huawei</a> by the U.S. commerce department. Thanks to the trade license, Microsoft could supply Windows 10 to Huawei&#8217;s new MateBook D notebooks in China.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/26/u-s-envoy-clashes-with-german-minister-over-huaweis-involvement-in-germanys-5g-development/">U.S. Envoy clashes with German Minister over Huawei’s involvement in Germany&#8217;s 5G development</a></strong></h6>
<p>However, the real question in our minds is whether Google will ever receive a license to trade with Huawei. It&#8217;s been six months since the U.S. ban came into effect and newly launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/20/huawei-mate-30-pro-arrives-in-spain-with-no-gms-and-in-limited-quantities/">Huawei smartphones do not feature Google apps</a> which have become more or less essential for international users. And without Google, Huawei smartphones are basically dead on arrival in the international markets.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_279510" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-279510" style="width: 1620px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-279510" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Mate 30 Pro featured 01" width="1620" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01.jpg 1620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-Mate-30-Pro-featured-01-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1620px) 100vw, 1620px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-279510" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei Mate 30 Pro is one of the best smartphones in the market today but does not come with Google apps</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>But today&#8217;s comment reveals that Ren is pretty optimistic about Huawei&#8217;s comeback. He added in the interview that it was a matter of waiting for some time until <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> got back into the international markets. According to Ren, Huawei will make a comeback in the next two years.</p>
<p>&#8220;We will have to resort to alternatives. If those alternatives become mature, I think it&#8217;ll become less likely to switch back to previous versions,&#8221; added Ren at the interview &#8220;It is a critical moment for all of us, I hope the US government can consider what&#8217;s best for American companies.&#8221;</p>
<p>While we still don&#8217;t know what Huawei is planning for the international markets without Google, it&#8217;s current strategy has been to double down its efforts in China. And thanks to the sales boosts in its home market, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/27/smartphone-sales-decline-in-q3-2019-huawei-sees-26-sales-increase/">company is doing better than most other smartphone companies</a> on a global scale.</p>

The ban was based on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/30/vodafone-allegedly-found-hidden-backdoors-in-huaweis-equipment-bloomberg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">allegations that the networking equipment developed by Huawei has hidden back doors</a> which can be used to steal sensitive user data when compelled by the Chinese government. Even though Huawei has not been proven guilty, however, if this turns out true, these equipment could pose a serious threat to national security claims the U.S.</p>
<p>Morevover, the U.S has been asking its allies to not purchase equipment from the company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/30/us-threatens-to-punish-allies-if-they-purchase-5g-equipment-from-huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">otherwise it would punish them in some manner</a>. Clearly, this move has had a negative impact on Huawei&#8217;s smartphone business which despite running Android do not support Google services.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-276102 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg?x10805" alt="Zhengfei Ren, Huawei founder and CEO" width="890" height="501" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren.jpg 890w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Zhengfei-Ren-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" />Surprisingly, Huawei&#8217;s aggregate revenue jumped 24.4% in first three quarters of 2019 when compared to last year. Besides, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei has made yet another unanticipated statment that the &#8220;<strong>the U.S ban has helped the company positively&#8221;. </strong>He explained that Huawei employee&#8217;s who are afraid of the company&#8217;s death, have started working even harder and their efforts are the reason that company managed to increase revenue despite tough times.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/22/meizu-will-launch-a-trendy-orange-over-ear-hd60-headphones-tomorrow/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Meizu will launch a trendy Orange over-ear HD60 headphones tomorrow</a></strong></h6>
<p>Falling in line with his current statement, Huawei CEO had previously said that the 90 day window provided by the U.S &#8220;doesn&#8217;t make much sense, we are ready.&#8221;. This means that Huawei has accepted that the ban imposed on it is unlikely to be lifted in the future. Henceforth, it will reiterate its business strategies and product portfolios to continue growth and render the ban irrelevant.<img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-279777 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-1024x683.jpeg?x10805" alt="Huawei store logo official featured 03" width="696" height="464" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-1068x712.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-630x420.jpeg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Huawei-store-logo-official-featured-03-1920x1280.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>As we have previously said multiple times, Huawei is dealing with this tricky situation in a bold and postive manner which supposedly is the only way out.</p>

<p>The letter is titled <em>&#8220;To Improve Software Engineering Capabilities and Practices, and Create Credible High-Quality Products.&#8221;</em> In the letter, he says that the company is at a new starting point when it comes to cloud computing, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai/">AI</a>, Software definition and other development trends.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-24574 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Huawei-Logo-Stage.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Logo" width="625" height="350" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Huawei-Logo-Stage.jpg 625w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Huawei-Logo-Stage-300x168.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px" /></p>
<p>He says that the company&#8217;s credibility will be an important factor for customers when they decide to buy and accept Huawei products and trust the brand. He added that credibility is not only a high-quality result of the external performance of the product but also a high-quality process inherent in the product.</p>
<p>Apart from that, he also talks about improving software engineering capabilities and practices in order to create credible and high-quality products. For this, Ren Zhengfei says that the company&#8217;s board has decided carried out the improvements in a revolutionary manner.</p>
<p>Huawei&#8217;s chairman Xu Zhijun has promised an initial investment of around $2 billion, which the company will be using over the course of five years in the field of ICT Infrastructure. As it is clear, the company is aiming to build credible and high-quality products. It says that Huawei&#8217;s mission is to bring the digital world to everyone, every family and every organization. To read the full letter, go to the source link.</p>
<p>In the year 2018, Huawei has seen both &#8212; growth as well as resistance. While the company surpassed $100 billion in revenue for the first time and crossed its goal of 200 million smartphone shipments, it is also facing strong criticism and legal hurdles in the west.</p>

<p>Last week, it was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/12/28/us-reportedly-considering-a-clear-trade-ban-on-chinese-telecom-equipment-targeting-huawei-and-zte/">reported</a> that the USA is considering to ban American wireless carriers from procuring equipment from the Chinese companies, a big blow to both Huawei and ZTE, which are the two largest producers of Telecom equipment. Huawei is also among the leading players when it comes to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g/">5G</a> technology.</p>
