<p>New flagship phones are expected to launch soon, starting with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple">Apple</a> introducing the iPhone 17 series on Sept. 9, followed by the Xiaomi 16 series towards the end of the month. A slew of new flagship phones from brands such as Vivo, Oppo, Honor, iQOO, Realme, OnePlus, and Redmi are also anticipated in October. Alongside the flagship war, this period will also mark the battle of new chipsets that will power these phones.</p>

<h3><strong>Chipset war to begin soon</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="853" height="423" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-704874" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34.png 853w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34-300x149.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34-768x381.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34-696x345.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34-847x420.png 847w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-34-324x160.png 324w" sizes="(max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px" /><figcaption>Chip war to begin soon</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the smartphone industry is heading into a major “chip war” before the big wave of flagship phone launches. Apple is leading with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-a19-pro">A19</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-a19-pro">A19 Pro</a>, followed by MediaTek with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dimensity-9500">Dimensity 9500</a>, and then vwith two Snapdragon 8 series platforms, the SM8850 and SM8845. These Qualcomm chips are likely to hit the market with respective names such as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-gen-5">Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5</a> (aka. Snapdragon 8 Elite 2) and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.</p>

<p>All of these are based on TSMC’s N3P process and are positioned as powerful “performance beasts.” The tipster also mentions that Apple and Qualcomm have already shifted to a dual-chip strategy. With chipset makers expected to adopt the 2nm process next year, which will bring higher costs, it remains to be seen whether MediaTek will also follow a dual-chip strategy.</p>

<p>As per reports, the cost of TSMC’s 2nm wafers is estimated at around $30,000 per wafer, higher than the price of 3nm wafers. This surge in cost is expected to affect the pricing of Android flagship phones in 2026.</p>

<h3><strong>Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 to power next-generation foldable phones</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="843" height="160" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-36.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-704876" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-36.png 843w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-36-300x57.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-36-768x146.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/image-36-696x132.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px" /></figure></div>

<p>DCS said that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-5">Snapdragon 8 Gen 5</a> is currently being tested by manufacturers such as Honor, Oppo, and Vivo, and he plans to share his own hands-on results soon. He added that some brands are considering using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 for foldable phones.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>’s next flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, has just made an early appearance on Geekbench, more than a month before its official launch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The listing comes from a Samsung device bearing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/26/samsungs-galaxy-s26-edge-and-ultra-just-popped-up-in-the-imei-database/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">model code SM-S947U</a>, believed to be the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/08/09/galaxy-s26-edge-thickness-revealed-and-its-impressive/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S26 Edge</a>. This means the chip doing the benchmark run could actually be the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 “for Galaxy” variant.</p>

<p>In Geekbench 6.4, the silicon manages to achieve a single-core score of 3,393 and a multi-core score of 11,515. That’s roughly a 9% boost in single-core performance compared to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, which scores around 3,125 and 9,932 in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/04/snapdragon-8-elite-antutu-geekbench-score/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">same tests</a>. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="468" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdrgaon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-701099" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdrgaon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench.jpg 468w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdrgaon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench-234x300.jpg 234w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdrgaon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench-328x420.jpg 328w" sizes="(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px" /></figure></div>

<p>It’s a healthy bump, but not quite the leap some early leaks <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/12/snapdragon-8-elite-2-leaked-benchmark-scores/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hinted at</a>. That may be because the chip in this test wasn’t running flat out.</p>

<p>As you can see below, the tested unit’s prime CPU core caps at just 4.0GHz, well below its maximum potential of 4.74GHz (shown above). In other words, there’s still plenty of performance left untapped, which is common for pre-release hardware.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="264" height="628" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench-shows-its-clock-speed.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-701100" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench-shows-its-clock-speed.jpg 264w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench-shows-its-clock-speed-126x300.jpg 126w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Geekbench-shows-its-clock-speed-177x420.jpg 177w" sizes="(max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px" /></figure></div>

<h2><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 outperforms Exynos 2600 at partial power</strong></h2>

<p>The benchmark listing also confirms that Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will keep a familiar 6+2 CPU core layout. The six efficiency cores will have a clock speed of 3.63GHz. It also supports the new SME (Scalable Matrix Extensions) instruction set, which could help in AI and machine learning workloads.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Galaxy S26 Edge prototype in this test packs 12GB of RAM and is running Android 16, likely with an early build of Samsung’s One UI 8.0.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="667" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Galaxy-S25-Edge-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge" class="wp-image-686816" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Galaxy-S25-Edge-1.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Galaxy-S25-Edge-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Galaxy-S25-Edge-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Galaxy-S25-Edge-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Galaxy-S25-Edge-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge </figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While we don’t yet have figures to compare the 8 Elite 2 directly against its true rival, the Dimensity 9500, it clearly outperforms the Exynos 2600 by a significant margin. That too, without running at full power. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/25/exynos-2600s-early-geekbench-scores-hint-at-galaxy-s26s-potential/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Exynos 2600’s Geekbench scores </a>are 2,155 for single-core and 7,788 for multi-core.</p>

<p>The official reveal of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will take place during the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/19/qualcomm-just-revealed-when-the-snapdragon-8-elite-2-is-coming/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon Summit event on September 23</a>.</p>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite, announced last year, was a huge bet for Qualcomm, and it turned out to be a massive success. The powerful Oryon cores, combined with 3nm cutting-edge technology, delivered massive performance and efficiency gains. It’s still one of the fastest mobile chipsets.</p>

<p>Pushing the limits even further, Qualcomm is already working on its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, and early leaks suggest promising upgrades. The chip is also arriving a month earlier, which means we’ll see devices launching with this chip sooner than ever before. Here’s everything we know about the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.</p>

<h2>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 release date</h2>

<div><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-1024x407.png?x44794" class="td-modal-image"><figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="407" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-1024x407.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon Summit 2025 poster" class="wp-image-699229" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-1024x407.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-300x119.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-768x305.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-1536x611.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-696x277.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-1068x425.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster-1057x420.png 1057w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Snapdragon-Summit-2025-poster.png 1585w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></a></div>

<p>Qualcomm will announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 at the<a href="https://www.qualcomm.com/company/events/snapdragon-summit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Snapdragon Summit 2025</a>, scheduled to take place on September 23. That’s a month earlier than its usual timeline, and Qualcomm isn’t alone in here — its biggest rival, MediaTek, is also reportedly pushing up the announcement to showcase Dimensity 9500 even earlier in September.</p>

<p>Not to forget, Apple will also unveil its latest iPhones in the same month, powered by a new A19 chipset. So, September is going to be an extremely busy month, and I’m very excited to see how these chips stack up against each other.</p>

<p>Although the official announcement is still weeks away, leaks and benchmarks have already revealed numerous details about the upcoming Snapdragon flagship, as detailed in the following sections.</p>

<h2>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 specs</h2>

<div><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1024x512.jpg?x44794" class="td-modal-image"><figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 CPU and GPU leak" class="wp-image-680803" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></a></div>

<p>Qualcomm will reportedly use TSMC’s enhanced 3nm (N3P) process for the manufacturing of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. Several reports also surfaced online suggesting a Samsung-made (2nm) Snapdragon 8 Elite in the pipeline, but it is not ready for mass production just yet, according to a reliable leaker, Digital Chat Station.</p>

<p>The second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite is said to feature ARMv9 architecture, supporting advanced instructions such as SME1 and SVE2. As for the CPU cores, Qualcomm will likely stick to the same core cluster, featuring two prime Oryon cores and six performance Oryon cores.</p>

<p>Qualcomm will reportedly use the third-generation Oryon CPU cores in the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. The 8 Elite features the second-generation Oryon core, whereas the first-generation core was used in the Snapdragon X Elite (for PC).</p>

<p>According to recent leaks, the 8 Elite 2 may hit 4.6GHz of peak frequency for its regular model, and a<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/24/snapdragon-8-elite-2-inside-galaxy-s26-to-run-at-4-74ghz-says-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> whopping 4.74GHz for the “for Galaxy” variant</a> that Samsung will be using in the Galaxy S26 series early next year. That’s a nice jump from Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 4.32GHz, combined with performance upgrades on the third-gen Oryon CPU, will likely bring a considerable performance boost to the upcoming flagship.</p>

<p>The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is leaked to feature an upgraded Adreno 840 GPU with around a 30% performance boost. The GPU is said to be clocked at up to 1.2GHz and may feature increased independent cache (likely GMEM) from 12MB to 16MB for faster graphics rendering. It could bring support for LPDDR5X/LPDDR6 memory.</p>

<p>Here’s a spec sheet based on the leaked details:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table is-style-regular" style="font-size:13px"><table class="has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background"><thead><tr><th>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 specs</th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Announcement</td><td>September 23, 2025</td></tr><tr><td>Process node</td><td>3nm</td></tr><tr><td>Manufacturer</td><td>TSMC</td></tr><tr><td>CPU</td><td>octa-core</td></tr><tr><td>CPU cores</td><td>2 x prime cores (Oryon)<br>6 x performance cores (Oryon)</td></tr><tr><td>GPU</td><td>Adreno 840</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h2>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 benchmarks</h2>

<p>While there have been no benchmark leaks as yet, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has something to share with us. According to him, Qualcomm’s next flagship SoC will achieve a single-core score over 4,000 and a multi-core score over 11,000.</p>

<p>For reference, the Snapdragon 8 Elite scores around 3,100 and 9,800 in single-core and multi-core, respectively. This translates to an improvement of about 25-30% in single-core and 10-15% in multi-core for the newer flagship. These are not huge gains, but not less than impressive for a year-over-year upgrade.</p>

<p>The same tipster also believes that the 8 Elite 2 could surpass the 4 million AnTuTu mark. If that’s true, it would be an astonishing achievement for Qualcomm. For reference, the Snapdragon 8 Elite only manages around 2.8 million.</p>

<p>There’s still a lot we don’t know about the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 — especially when it comes to the camera, connectivity, and NPU upgrades. Hopefully, more details will emerge soon, and I’ll update this article as they do.</p>

<p>As expected, the last quarter of the year is anticipated to see the arrival of multiple flagship and sub-flagship phones in the Chinese market. In a new leak, tipster Digital Chat Station has mentioned the launch timeframes of the expected smartphones. Here’s a look at all the details shared by the tipster.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="692" height="330" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/image-90.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-697521" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/image-90.png 692w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/image-90-300x143.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px" /></figure>

<h2><strong>Xiaomi 16 series, Vivo X300 series – September-end launch</strong></h2>

<p>According to tipster Digital Chat Station, only one brand is tentatively set to launch a new SM8850 (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-2">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a>) powered device by the end of September. Based on recent reports, the tipster could be talking <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/11/xiaomi-16-september-launch-key-specs-tipped/">about the Xiaomi 16 series</a>.</p>

<p>He added that another brand is working hard to get its D9500 (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/dimensity-9500">Dimensity 9500</a>) powered phone ready for a late September debut, but if it can’t make it, the launch will be pushed to after the National Day holidays in early October. The national holidays will last between Oct. 1 to Oct. 8 this year. The tipster could be referring to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo-x300">Vivo X300</a> series of smartphones. If it does not debut by the end of September, it may break cover within the first half of October in China.</p>

<h2><strong>October launches</strong></h2>

<p>DCS added that October is shaping up to be a fierce battleground for SM8850 and D9500 flagship launches, with both main and sub-brands planning to release new flagships at a rapid pace. Therefore, October is likely to see the arrival of multiple smartphones, such as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo-find-x9">Oppo Find X9</a> lineup, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/honor-magic-8">Honor Magic 8</a> series, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iqoo-15">iQOO 15</a> series, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-15">OnePlus 15</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/realme-gt-8-pro">Realme GT 8 Pro</a>.</p>

<h2><strong>November–December launches</strong></h2>

<p>Then, moving into November and December, we can expect the rollout of final flagship devices for the year as well as mid-range phones, featuring chips like the SM8845 and D8500. The SM8845’s final moniker is not known, but there’s a possibility that it could be called the Snapdragon 8 Plus / Turbo and is expected to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/04/14/qualcomms-sm8845-could-bridge-the-gap-between-the-snapdragon-8-elite-and-8s-gen-4/">bridge the gap between Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8s Gen 4</a>.</p>

<p>Recent reports have revealed that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k90">Redmi K90 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/07/honor-gt-2-gt-2-pro-chipset-display-details-leak/">Honor GT 2 series</a> are expected to feature the Snapdragon 8845 chip. Based on recent reports, it can be said that the Chinese market will see the arrival of the Oppo Reno 15 series, Vivo X31 (or S30) series, iQOO Neo 11 (or Neo 20) lineup, Realme Neo 8 series, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/03/oneplus-ace-6-ace-6-pro-specs-leak/">OnePlus Ace 6 lineup</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/14/redmi-turbo-5-first-details-leaked/">Redmi Turbo 5</a>.</p>

<p>According to a recent leak from tipster <em>Digital Chat Station</em>, the second half of 2025 will see new flagship chips from all major players in the mobile silicon market. This not only includes Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek, but also Huawei. </p>

<p><em>DCS </em>claims that Apple’s A19 Pro chip will debut in September, continuing the company’s yearly cadence. Qualcomm is expected to follow shortly after with its next flagship SoC, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/25/snapdragon-8-elite-2-hits-5-3ghz-in-qualcomm-reference-device/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a>, internally known as SM8850.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Core-and-Performance.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-692756" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Core-and-Performance.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Core-and-Performance-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Core-and-Performance-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Core-and-Performance-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-Core-and-Performance-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Both Apple and Qualcomm are said to be utilizing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/08/snapdragon-8-elite-2-tipped-to-feature-oryon-gen-2-cpu-cores-100-tops-npu-and-more/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TSMC’s N3P node</a>, a refinement of the foundry’s current 3nm process. The tipster says these upcoming chips will hit a new high in frequency (i.e., clock speed) and will have improved energy efficiency over the previous generation.</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Kirin 9030 is a surprise</strong></h2>

<p>MediaTek’s high-end chip, possibly named <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/13/mediatek-dimensity-9500-geekbench-scores/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dimensity 9500</a>, will also launch by September end. Meanwhile, Huawei’s Kirin 9030 is reportedly scheduled for release toward the end of the year. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="412" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Huawei-Kirin-9030-launch-leak.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-694658" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Huawei-Kirin-9030-launch-leak.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Huawei-Kirin-9030-launch-leak-300x137.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Huawei-Kirin-9030-launch-leak-768x352.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Huawei-Kirin-9030-launch-leak-696x319.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>We’re sure to learn more about the Dimensity 9500 or any chip, for that matter, in detail when it launches. But Huawei, as in the past, might keep the specifics of the Kirin 9030 under wraps. If timelines hold, all four flagship processors will enter the market between late 2025 and early 2026.</p>

<p>Elsewhere in the comments section of the leak, discussion emerged about Xiaomi’s in-house XRING processor. DCS says Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun did not expect the first-generation XRING O1 to perform so well, so there were no plans for its successor. However, DCS claims the XRING O2 will be even “more popular.”</p>

<p>Separately, a report from IT Home this morning suggests that Apple is preparing to launch M5 chips this fall in new versions of the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. The update is likely to be limited to the processor itself, with little else changing in the hardware design or features.</p>

<p>According to reliable leakers <em><a href="https://x.com/Olrak29_/status/1937534648957206633">@Olrak29_</a></em>, two Qualcomm Reference Devices (QRDs) powered by the chip—codenamed SM8850—have surfaced online. One version reportedly reaches a peak clock speed of 5.3GHz, edging out even Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V laptop CPU (5.1GHz), while another hits a more conservative 4.8GHz, likely closer to what we’ll see in commercial devices. For reference, the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite and its &#8220;For Galaxy&#8221; version (seen on the S25 series) hit 4.32GHz and 4.47GHz, respectively.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="894" height="128" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/GuOBfXmbMAARoPs.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-694077" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/GuOBfXmbMAARoPs.png 894w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/GuOBfXmbMAARoPs-300x43.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/GuOBfXmbMAARoPs-768x110.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/GuOBfXmbMAARoPs-696x100.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 894px) 100vw, 894px" /></figure>

<p>The 8 Elite 2 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/29/snapdragon-8-elite-2-launch-window-details-leak/">expected</a> to be built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process and powered by Qualcomm’s second-generation Nuvia cores. This architecture could push single-core CPU performance up by 30%, according to a report from NotebookCheck. Graphics may see similar improvements, with the Adreno 840 GPU rumored to include a 16MB cache and deliver another 30% boost—making it ideal for gaming, 8K video rendering, and on-device generative AI applications.</p>

<p>Still, some caution is warranted. The 5.3GHz variant may be a high-frequency engineering sample used for internal testing, and there&#8217;s uncertainty around how sustainable such speeds would be in real-world use. The jump from N3E to N3P isn’t massive, so heat management will be a big question if the clock speed sees such a big jump.</p>

<p>Tipster <em>Digital Chat Station</em> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/12/snapdragon-8-elite-2-leaked-benchmark-scores/">reports</a> that the chip scores over 4,000 in Geekbench’s single-core test and around 11,000 in the multi-core test—quite a leap from the current chip’s usual scores of about 3,100 and 9,700.</p>

<p>Smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/12/snapdragon-8-elite-2-leaked-benchmark-scores/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 </a>and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/16/dimensity-9500-mt6993-geekbench-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500</a> might come with higher price tags this year.</p>

<p>According to a leak from tipster <em>Digital Chat Station</em>, these new flagship chips will offer AI computing power that is double that of their predecessors. As a result, the tipster claims that phone manufacturers are considering offering 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage to meet the increased demands for AI.</p>

<h2><strong>Next Android flagships will have 24GB of RAM</strong></h2>

<p>Just a year ago, most brands pulled back from launching 24GB models due to rising memory costs. The short-lived push for oversized memory in smartphones lost momentum as prices climbed and mainstream demand remained limited. That left the market settling around 12GB and 16GB of RAM as the typical maximum.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="286" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/24GB-RAM-Android-flagships-2026.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-692678" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/24GB-RAM-Android-flagships-2026.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/24GB-RAM-Android-flagships-2026-300x95.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/24GB-RAM-Android-flagships-2026-768x244.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/24GB-RAM-Android-flagships-2026-696x221.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>But the AI hardware race might shift priorities. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 reportedly delivers up to 100 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI performance, and we expect something similar from the Dimensity 9500 as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As a result, DCS claims that the top five smartphone brands are now preparing to reintroduce premium-tier models with 24GB + 1TB configurations. However, with increased memory, smartphone prices might also see a rise. While the tipster doesn’t explicitly mention pricing, a jump in memory specs will almost certainly lead to higher smartphone prices.</p>

<p>In related news, leaked Geekbench 6 scores give us an early look at just how powerful these chips might be. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/12/snapdragon-8-elite-2-leaked-benchmark-scores/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reportedly hits over 4,000 points in single-core</a> tests and surpasses 11,000 in multi-core performance. MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 isn’t far behind, scoring over <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/13/mediatek-dimensity-9500-geekbench-scores/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">3,900 in single-core</a> and also breaking past 11,000 in multi-core benchmarks.</p>

<h3><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2: Major upgrade in CPU and GPU performance</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="848" height="264" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-53.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-691636" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-53.png 848w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-53-300x93.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-53-768x239.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/image-53-696x217.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 848px) 100vw, 848px" /></figure></div>

<p>As per the leak, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-2">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a> will introduce Qualcomm’s second-generation Oryon CPU architecture. On Geekbench 6, the chipset is reportedly targeting over 4,000 points in single-core tests and upwards of 11,000 points in multi-core scores. Compared to the first-gen <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a>, which scored around 3,100 and 9,800, respectively, the new chip promises a significant jump in performance.</p>

<p>The platform is also expected to feature a 16MB GMEM cache and an upgraded Adreno 840 GPU, designed to handle demanding visuals and graphics-heavy applications with ease. These upgrades suggest a focus on performance efficiency and better thermal control for future flagship devices.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="538" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-1024x538.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon 8 Elite 2" class="wp-image-683925" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-1024x538.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-300x158.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-768x403.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-696x365.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-1068x561.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-800x420.png 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/04/28/snapdragon-8-elite-2-tipped-to-launch-in-september-read-specifications-expected-phones/">rumored</a> to have a 2+6 CPU structure with a maximum clock speed of up to 5GHz, offering significant improvements over its predecessor. Expected to be built with TSMC&#8217;s third-generation 3nm process, the CPU to have a base frequency of 4.4GHz, slightly higher than the 4.32GHz of the previous generation.</p>

<p>Based on previous patterns, Xiaomi is likely to be the first brand to launch phones powered by this chipset—specifically the Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro. Other early adopters could include the OnePlus 15, iQOO 15, 15 Pro, Honor Magic 8 series, Realme GT 8 Pro, Nubia Red Magic 11 series, and Redmi K90 series.</p>

<p>The Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra arriving next year are expected to feature the new chip. However, it is unclear whether the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will feature the Snapdragon chip or the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/21/xiaomi-16-series-snapdragon-xring-chip-dual-strategy/">company’s in-house Xring SoC</a>.</p>

The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/04/29/dimensity-9500-detailed-specifications-leaked-well-before-launch-promises-top-notch-performance/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">upcoming Dimensity 9500</a> SoC could launch before the anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The new chipset likely offers improvements in performance, AI processing, and much more. So here&#8217;s what we know.</p>

<h2>Next-Gen Dimensity 9500 May Arrive Before Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</h2>

<p>Last year, both the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite debuted in the market in the month of October. But the Dimensity processor arrived a couple of days ahead of the Snapdragon competitor. A fresh leak now hints that the new Dimensity 9500 will continue to hold this announcement lead. Qualcomm has already confirmed the 23rd September 2025 event date for the Snapdragon Summit. During this conference, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to make its global debut.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="MediaTek Dimensity 9500 AnTuTu Score leaks" class="wp-image-682479" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/MediaTek-Dimensity-9500-AnTuTu-Score-leaks.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>MediaTek Dimensity 9500</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While an official launch date for the Dimensity 9500 is still unknown, known tipster, Digital Chat Station, claims that it will arrive before the Snapdragon processor. So, it might drop earlier in September 2025. With these chips being unveiled, the next round of flagship Android smartphones are expected to hit the market as well, bringing cutting edge specs and performance. </p>

<p>To recall, the Oppo Find X8 and Vivo X200 series featured the Dimensity 9400, so we can expect the Find X9 and X300 lineup to pack the Dimensity 9500. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 series, OnePlus 13, and others came with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and should bring the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 to their successors. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now.</p>

<p>Qualcomm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/19/qualcomm-just-revealed-when-the-snapdragon-8-elite-2-is-coming/">recently confirmed</a> that it will hold the 2025 Snapdragon Summit in September this year. This gave birth to rumors that the Xiaomi 16 series equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip will debut by the end of the said month. Xiaomi&#8217;s upcoming 16 series smartphones are making headlines again, with official confirmation from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> shedding light on the chipset strategy for their next-generation devices. The announcement not only dispels ongoing speculation but also provides a clearer picture of how Xiaomi will integrate its self-developed Xring chip alongside Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoCs.</p>

<h3><strong>Xiaomi 16 series will debut with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1023" height="717" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-687698" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76.png 1023w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76-300x210.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76-768x538.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76-696x488.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76-599x420.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-76-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px" /><figcaption>Qualcomm&#8217;s press release </figcaption></figure>

<p>Xiaomi and Qualcomm have signed a new multi-year partnership agreement, reaffirming their long-standing collaboration. Under this agreement, Xiaomi will continue to launch multiple flagship models featuring Snapdragon 8 series chipsets. As part of the arrangement, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-16">Xiaomi 16</a> will be among the first to ship with the next-gen Snapdragon 8-series chip (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-2">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a> – tentative name), expected later this year. This confirms that Xiaomi is not breaking ties with Qualcomm, as previously rumored, but is instead reinforcing its alliance for future product generations.</p>

<p>CEO Lei Jun remarked that Qualcomm remains a key partner in Xiaomi’s global growth story, emphasizing their shared commitment to high-quality, innovative products. Xiaomi aims to strengthen its position in the premium smartphone segment by combining Snapdragon&#8217;s performance with its own hardware-software synergies.</p>

<h3><strong>Xring may power Xiaomi 16S Pro and Xiaomi 16 Ultra</strong></h3>

<p>The Xiaomi 15S Pro, launching tomorrow in China, will debut with the company’s in-house <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xring-o1">Xring O1</a> chip. It’s likely that its successor will continue this trend, integrating Xiaomi’s own chipset. While the standard Xiaomi 16 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-16-pro">16 Pro</a> will feature the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, Xiaomi’s in-house SoC, however, is expected to be reserved for select high-end models like the Xiaomi 16S Pro and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-16-ultra">Xiaomi 16 Ultra</a>.</p>

<p>This selective deployment suggests that the Xring chip is designed to complement, not replace, Snapdragon solutions. As production capacity for Xring is still ramping up, Xiaomi will continue relying on Snapdragon for volume flagships.</p>

<p>Most of the flagship phones powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite </a>are already official. So, if you’re looking ahead to what’s next in the Android performance race, Qualcomm just gave us a date to circle on the calendar.</p>

<p>During the Computex 2025 keynote, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm </a>president and CEO Cristiano Amon announced that this year’s Snapdragon Summit will take place from September 23 to 25 in Hawaii. </p>

<h2><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in September 2025?</strong></h2>

<p>You probably know what to expect from this event. The Snapdragon Summit has consistently been the venue for Qualcomm’s next-gen smartphone chip announcements, and this year will be no different. As a result, we are expecting the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 at the event.</p>

<p>But smartphones won’t be the only focus. Amon also teased the debut of Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon X chipset for PCs, though he stopped short of providing further details.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 launch" class="wp-image-687470" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-Summit-2025.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>As for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, the chip is expected to bring significant performance upgrades over its predecessor. The CPU is expected to run at a base frequency of 4.4GHz, slightly higher than the previous model’s 4.32GHz.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, the new chip will feature a second-generation, self-developed CPU architecture, and the GPU’s dedicated cache might increase from 12MB to 16MB.</p>

<p>In terms of manufacturing, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will use TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. This is expected to bring 4% performance improvement while reducing power consumption by 9%, compared to the previous generation, without altering clock speeds. </p>

<p>The chip might also integrate the new SME instruction set (part of the Arm64 architecture) that will enhance multimedia and graphics processing capabilities.</p>

<p>The Xiaomi 16 series is expected to be the first to launch with the 8 Elite 2. That includes the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-16" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi 16 </a>and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-16-pro">16 Pro</a>, but they won’t be alone for long. Several devices like the Redmi K90 Pro, Realme GT 8 Pro, OnePlus 14, iQOO 14, Xiaomi 16 Ultra, Vivo X300 Ultra, and the Oppo Find X9 Ultra are expected to follow suit. </p>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is shaping up to be Qualcomm’s most potent mobile chipset yet, and a big upgrade over the already impressive Snapdragon 8 Elite, and is rumored to debut at the Snapdragon Summit in September 2025. </p>

<p>Leaker Digital Chat Station, known for reliable scoops, shared on Weibo that it’ll use TSMC’s cutting-edge N3P 3nm process and Oryon Gen 2 CPU cores—two prime and six performance cores—ditching efficiency cores like its predecessor.</p>

<p>As per a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/04/28/snapdragon-8-elite-2-tipped-to-launch-in-september-read-specifications-expected-phones/">previous report</a>, the prime cores will run at a clock speed of 4.4GHz, a slight upgrade over the 4.32GHz clock of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite">predecessor</a>. Built on the Armv9 architecture with SME 1 and SVE2 support, it seems that the 8 Elite 2 will also be ready for advanced AI features.</p>

<p>The chipset’s Hexagon NPU hits a staggering 100 TOPS, which could be beneficial for features like AI-powered photo and video editing. Its Adreno 840 GPU, paired with a 33% larger 16MB L2 cache, boosts gaming and graphics by 30%, with display brightness tweaks also in tow. AnTuTu scores reportedly surpass 3.8 million, which is a hefty jump from the 8 Elite’s 2.7 &#8211; 3 million.</p>

<p>The 8 Elite 2’s efficiency and power could redefine Android flagships. Will it outshine Apple’s A19, or is the 100 TOPS NPU just hype? Expect more leaks as we inch closer to the official unveiling.</p>

<p>Qualcomm might tap Samsung Foundry’s cutting-edge 2nm node for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy, according to SEDaily. <h2>Galaxy S26 series to be based on Samsung&#8217;s Exynos 2600</h2>

<p>As per a new report from SEDaily, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Galaxy will be fabricated on Samsung Foundry&#8217;s 2nm SF2 node, matching the Exynos 2600’s tech. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, slated for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 in H2 2026, won’t power the Galaxy S26 series, which could stick with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/04/12/yield-rate-for-2nm-exynos-2600-exceeds-40-could-be-a-part-of-galaxy-s26-series/">Exynos 2600 across all models</a>—S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra.</p>

<p>Although the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra/">Galaxy S24 Ultra</a> was powered exclusively by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s24/">S24</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s24-plus/">S24+</a> featured the Exynos 2400 in most markets, a similar setup seems unlikely next year. The Samsung-made &#8220;For Galaxy&#8221; version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 reportedly won&#8217;t be ready in time for the Galaxy S26 launch. Sure, Samsung could opt for a TSMC-made 8 Elite 2—which might even perform better—but that would undermine the cost-saving goals of developing an in-house solution. Ultimately, much will depend on how well the Exynos 2600 performs and whether it can meet Samsung’s expectations, especially for the S26 Ultra.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="600" height="400" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Samsung-Foundry.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Foundry" class="wp-image-633046" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Samsung-Foundry.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Samsung-Foundry-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></figure></div>

<p>Samsung’s SF2, with its GAAFET design, should theoretically edge out TSMC’s N3P FinFET in efficiency, but Samsung’s past struggles with power and performance raise doubts. Designing the same chip for two nodes—Samsung’s 2nm for foldables and possibly TSMC’s for others—could spark a “Chipgate” redux once again.</p>

<p>If Samsung Foundry nails the 2nm node, it could reclaim glory and power Samsung’s foldables without sacrificing sustained performance and power efficiency. But with TSMC’s track record, Qualcomm’s dual-sourcing gamble is a high-stakes play.</p>

<p>According to the tipster, Qualcomm will announce the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-2">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a> at the end of September this year. He added that the first devices featuring the new chip will launch in October. This move is seen as Qualcomm’s direct challenge to Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series, which is expected to make its appearance in September. It is speculated that the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro will be the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.</p>

<h3><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 specifications (rumored)</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="538" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-1024x538.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon 8 Elite 2" class="wp-image-683925" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-1024x538.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-300x158.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-768x403.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-696x365.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-1068x561.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-800x420.png 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 image | Source: GizmoChina</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to reports, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset will come with significant performance upgrades compared to its predecessor. The CPU is expected to run at a base frequency of 4.4GHz, slightly higher than the 4.32GHz of the previous model. Additionally, this new chip features a second-generation self-developed CPU architecture, with the GPU’s dedicated cache increasing from 12MB to 16MB, resulting in a 30% overall performance boost.</p>

<p>In terms of manufacturing, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 uses TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. This provides a 4% performance boost while reducing power consumption by 9% compared to the previous generation, without altering the clock speeds. The chip also integrates the new SME instruction set, a part of the Arm64 architecture, which is designed to enhance multimedia and graphics processing capabilities, making it more efficient in handling these tasks.</p>

<h3><strong>Upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 phones</strong></h3>

<p>Alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-16">Xiaomi 16</a> and 16 Pro, other devices expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 include the Redmi K90 Pro, Realme GT 8 Pro, OnePlus 14, iQOO 14, Xiaomi 16 Ultra, Vivo X300 Ultra, and the Oppo Find X9 Ultra. The Ultra variants mentioned here are expected to launch in the first half of 2026.</p>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is still more than a quarter away from its official debut, but that hasn’t stopped it from making headlines. And it’s back in the news again today. Thanks to a new leak that claims impressive CPU and GPU performance gains.</p>

<h2><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 CPU and GPU performance</strong></h2>

<p>The latest information comes from a reliable industry insider Digital Chat Station from China. The <a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/PmanGuj39?pagetype=profilefeed" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tipster claims</a> Qualcomm will bump the GPU cache from 12MB (on the current Snapdragon 8 Elite) to 16MB on the Elite 2. That change alone has reportedly led to a ±30% performance improvement in early tests.</p>

<p>On the CPU side, the leak suggests that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>’s second-generation custom Oryon cores could deliver around a ±25% boost in performance. The chip is expected to feature a 2+6 core configuration — that’s two prime cores and six performance cores — details of which have previously been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/03/29/qualcomms-snapdragon-8-elite-2-core-architecture-and-antutu-score-leaks/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">shared by the same tipster</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 CPU and GPU leak " class="wp-image-680804" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-CPU-and-GPU-leak-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>And in terms of benchmarks, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is said to score around 3.8 million points on AnTuTu. This is roughly a 30 percent jump over the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/03/05/snapdragon-8-elite-regains-lead-in-latest-antutu-performance-chart/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">best results from current Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered devices</a>. The performance gains claimed in today’s leak align closely with those numbers.</p>

<p>The upcoming chip is also expected to support both LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 memory. Additionally, it will include support for SME1 and SVE2 instruction sets meaning that it will be built on the latest ARM v9 architecture.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Qualcomm is said to manufacture the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process. It is the same node rumored for Apple’s upcoming A19 chip as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It’s still too early for Qualcomm to confirm the 8 Elite 2’s launch. But based on past trends, we can expect an official announcement sometime in October.</p>

<p>A new leak may have given us the clearest look yet at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>’s next flagship chip, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a>. And it points to a significant boost in performance over its predecessor. </p>

<p>According to known leaker <em>Digital Chat Station</em>, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (model number SM88550) will be built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process and feature a 2+6 core setup: two prime cores and six performance cores. </p>

<p>It’s a similar configuration to the current 8 Elite, but it will be based on Arm’s newer v9 architecture this time. This seems likely as the tipster notes that the chip will have support for SME1 and SVE2. </p>

<p>These are Arm&#8217;s v9 advanced instruction set extensions that are typically reserved for improving tasks like on-device AI processing and computational photography. And yes, that means the 8 Elite is based on Arm&#8217;s v8 architecture. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="426" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-specs-AnTuTu.jpg?x44794" alt="Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Specs and AnTuTu" class="wp-image-679347" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-specs-AnTuTu.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-specs-AnTuTu-300x142.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-specs-AnTuTu-768x364.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-specs-AnTuTu-696x329.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-specs-AnTuTu-887x420.jpg 887w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The GPU is also getting an update. The chip will reportedly use an Adreno 840, though details on clock speeds or capabilities haven’t surfaced yet. </p>

<h2><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 AnTuTu</strong></h2>

<p>Performance-wise, the leaked numbers are hard to ignore. According to the source, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 has already hit an AnTuTu score of 3.8 million points. This is over 30 percent improvement compared to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/03/05/snapdragon-8-elite-regains-lead-in-latest-antutu-performance-chart/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">best-performing Snapdragon 8 Elite phone</a> in March. It’s a big jump, even if benchmark numbers rarely tell the full story of real-world performance.</p>

<p>These early leaks suggest the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is more than a routine refresh. With a shift to Arm v9 and improved computing capabilities, Qualcomm may be laying the groundwork for phones that lean more heavily on AI and real-time processing.</p>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to power next year’s premium Android flagships. Qualcomm hasn’t confirmed a release date yet, but an official announcement could arrive sometime in October.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>’s upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</a> has already been rumored to use TSMC&#8217;s third-generation 3nm process, known as N3P. Now, a new leak suggests it won’t be the only Qualcomm chipset on this node.</p>

<h2><strong>Qualcomm’s expanding 3nm lineup</strong></h2>

<p>According to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS), another Qualcomm chipset, codenamed SM8845, will also be built on TSMC’s 3nm fabrication. While its exact identity remains unclear at the moment, it could be the successor to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, which is expected to launch soon.</p>

<p>An <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/14/redmi-k90-may-feature-custom-snapdragon-sm8845-chip-with-snapdragon-8-elite-level-performance/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">early report </a>hinted that SM8845 will feature a fully custom architecture, and today’s leak reinforces that claim. DCS says the chipset will use Qualcomm’s self-developed Oryon cores which if true will distinguish it from the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 that is expected to stick with ARM’s standard core designs.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon 8 Elite AnTuTu score" class="wp-image-671922" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Snapdragon-8-Elite-AnTuTu-score.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Moreover, since the 8s Gen 4 relies on ARM cores, it likely <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/03/25/qualcomms-upcoming-chip-is-called-snapdragon-8s-gen-4-not-8s-elite-tipster-spills-the-specs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">won’t carry the Elite branding</a> that Qualcomm has reserved for its custom-core chips. But if SM8845 does indeed feature Oryon cores, it could end up as another Elite-branded SoC.</p>

<p>Performance-wise, a previous report claimed that SM8845 is designed to match the benchmark scores of the Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750). It’s also expected to debut in the Redmi K90.</p>

<h2><strong>Dimensity 9500 and Dimensity 9450</strong></h2>

<p>Beyond Qualcomm, the leak also shares new details on MediaTek’s upcoming chips. According to Digital Chat Station, the flagship Dimensity 9500 will also be built on TSMC’s 3nm process.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-GPU-Geekbench1-1024x536-1.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-666768" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-GPU-Geekbench1-1024x536-1.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-GPU-Geekbench1-1024x536-1-300x157.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-GPU-Geekbench1-1024x536-1-768x402.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-GPU-Geekbench1-1024x536-1-696x364.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MediaTek-Dimensity-9400-GPU-Geekbench1-1024x536-1-802x420.webp 802w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>More interestingly, it is said to be accompanied by another chip called the Dimensity 9450 which will use the same fabrication technology. The similarities might go beyond just the manufacturing process, as both chipsets are reportedly designed with a big-core architecture.</p>

<p>According to reports, both the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500 might <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/20/snapdragon-8-elite-2-dimensity-9500-are-coming-early-and-so-are-the-phones-powered-by-them/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">arrive early this year</a>. MediaTek is expected to launch the Dimensity 9500 around mid-2025, while Qualcomm is might unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in early October.</p>

It seems like Qualcomm is staying with a reliable partner for its next chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, as rumors suggested it would be manufactured using <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/29/snapdragon-8-elite-2-launch-window-details-leak/#:~:text=The%20Snapdragon%208%20Elite%202%20is%20expected%20to%20use%20TSMC's,rumored%20to%20use%20this%20node." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TSMC&#8217;s more advanced 3nm N3P process</a>.</p>

<p>A new report by Gamma&#8217;s Hardware information (via Jukanlosreve) confirms that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will indeed be manufactured using TSMC&#8217;s 3nm (N3P) technology. This suggests that Qualcomm is still hesitant to move to Samsung Foundry for chip production.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Good news: The production of Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 by TSMC has been confirmed. <a href="https://t.co/eN0SDoR60G">pic.twitter.com/eN0SDoR60G</a></p>&mdash; Jukanlosreve (@Jukanlosreve) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jukanlosreve/status/1881546900186505638?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 21, 2025</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 reportedly has model number SM8850 and codename Kaanapali. The report also indicates that Samsung apparently made an effort to produce the 8 Elite 2 using its own manufacturing process, which supposedly had the codename &#8220;KaanapliS.&#8221;</p>

<p>However, according to the report, &#8220;KaanapliS&#8221; is no longer showing up in logistics data, suggesting that the rumored Samsung-produced SM8850 won&#8217;t be a reality. As a result, production of the 8 Elite 2 has shifted to TSMC, with the codename &#8220;KaanapaliT&#8221; &#8211; the &#8220;T&#8221; presumably signifying TSMC production.</p>

<h2><strong>What we know about Snapdragon 8 Elite 2</strong></h2>

<p>According to previous reports, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/04/snapdragon-8-elite-2-and-dimensity-9500-could-be-on-par-with-apple-m4-in-single-core-performance/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will support ARM’s SME</a>, an instruction set that enables processors to handle complex workloads more efficiently. This could significantly improve single-core performance, potentially bringing Qualcomm in line with Apple’s M4 chip.</p>

<p>In addition to SME support, both chipsets are rumored to be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm N3P process, which is expected to improve both performance and efficiency. Interestingly, Apple’s rumored A19 chip is also expected to use the same 3nm process.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon-8-Elite" class="wp-image-658047" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is also rumored to feature performance cores clocked at up to 5.00GHz, with a single-core Geekbench score of 4000 points.</p>

<p>However, these claims remain speculative for now, as actual performance can only be confirmed once the chipsets launch and undergo benchmarking. Even then, benchmark scores often fail to fully reflect real-world performance.</p>

<p>These next-generation processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek could be on par with Apple&#8217;s M4 chip in terms of single-core performance, thanks to a combination of factors including the use of ARM&#8217;s Scalable Matrix Extension (SME) and production on TSMC&#8217;s improved 3nm &#8216;N3P&#8217; process.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>Apple has held the crown for single-core performance in smartphone chipsets for several generations. While Qualcomm and MediaTek have managed to close the gap in multi-core performance, Apple&#8217;s chips have consistently excelled in single-core tasks. This has given Apple devices an edge in responsiveness and handling intensive single-threaded workloads.</p>

<p>However, things could be changing with the rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and Dimensity 9500.&nbsp;</p>

<h3><strong>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500 Specs</strong></h3>

<p>According to a tipster on Weibo, both chipsets will support ARM&#8217;s SME, which is an instruction set that allows processors to tackle complex workloads more efficiently. This could significantly improve single-core performance, potentially bringing Qualcomm and MediaTek in line with Apple&#8217;s M4 chip.</p>

<p>In addition to SME support, both chipsets are rumored to be manufactured on TSMC&#8217;s 3nm N3P process. This will likely improve both performance and efficiency. Interestingly, Apple’s rumored A19 chip is also expected to use the same 3nm process.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="340" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-and-Dimensity-9500-Leak.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-667298" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-and-Dimensity-9500-Leak.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-and-Dimensity-9500-Leak-300x113.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-and-Dimensity-9500-Leak-768x290.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Snapdragon-8-Elite-2-and-Dimensity-9500-Leak-696x263.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is also rumored to have performance cores clocked at up to 5.00GHz, while the Dimensity 9500&#8217;s cores are said to reach 4.00GHz.</p>

<p>These claims remain speculative for now, as we can only confirm actual performance once these chipsets launch and undergo benchmarking. Even then, benchmark scores often fail to fully reflect real-world performance.</p>

<p>Still, the rumors are intriguing. Qualcomm and MediaTek have consistently narrowed the performance gap with Apple, and these next-generation chipsets might finally achieve parity. For Android users, this could mean more high-performance smartphone options.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/Qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>&#8216;s next-generation chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, is under development as the successor to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-elite/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a>. <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon-8-Elite" class="wp-image-658047" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Qualcomm is reportedly planning to release the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in early October 2025, earlier than usual. This earlier launch aligns with the company&#8217;s trend of advancing Snapdragon Summit dates and aims to give smartphone manufacturers time to integrate the new chipset into flagship devices ahead of the holiday season.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="744" height="220" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-29-223950.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-666567" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-29-223950.png 744w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-29-223950-300x89.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-29-223950-696x206.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-29-223950-741x220.png 741w" sizes="(max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to use TSMC&#8217;s N3P node, an advanced 3nm manufacturing process. This technology is set to improve performance and power efficiency, comparable to Apple&#8217;s A19 chips, which are also rumored to use this node.</p>

<p>The leak suggests notable GPU upgrades for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, along with a potential 20% improvement in CPU performance. These improvements are expected to offer a meaningful performance boost, building on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/22/snapdragon-8-elite-battery-gaming-performance-upgrade/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">efficiency and GPU improvements</a> already seen in the current Snapdragon 8 Elite.</p>

<p>However, adoption of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could face hurdles as reports claim that it could be even <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/02/snapdragon-8-elite-gen-2-more-expensive/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">more expensive</a> than its already pricy predecessor. Qualcomm is reportedly working on optimizing its manufacturing process and supply chain to make the new chipset more competitively priced.</p>

<p>In other news, OnePlus has scheduled the global launch of the OnePlus 13 and 13R smartphones for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/17/oneplus-13-series-to-launch-on-this-date-globally-oneplus-13r-front-rear-design-revealed/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">7th January 2024</a>. The OnePlus 13R will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/28/oneplus-13r-battery-early-bird-offers-revealed/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">paired with a 6,000mAh battery</a>, while the flagship OnePlus 13 will come with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, also supported by a 6,000mAh battery.</p>

<p>This decision is primarily driven by the escalating costs associated with the advanced manufacturing processes and technological advancements required for these high-performance chips.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="784" height="303" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-31.png?x44794" alt="Redmi, OnePlus may drop Snapdragon 8 Elite DCS" class="wp-image-663224" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-31.png 784w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-31-300x116.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-31-768x297.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/image-31-696x269.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 784px) 100vw, 784px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Snapdragon 8 Elite series, renowned for its cutting-edge capabilities, has consistently powered this year’s most premium smartphones on the market. However, the increasing complexity of these chips, coupled with the transition to more sophisticated manufacturing nodes like TSMC&#8217;s N3P and N2 will significantly hike the cost.</p>

<p>In response, these smartphone brands are looking at alternative chip solutions to keep their products competitively priced and profitable. Notably, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a> has been offering a more budget-friendly option since last year, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (SM8635), and is expected to introduce its successor, the SM8735, next year.</p>

<p>Historically, brands have favored flagship chips like the 8 Gen 2 + 8 Gen 3 or 8 Gen 3 + 8 Elite for dual flagships. Moving forward, they may adopt a different strategy by potentially using a dual-chip setup that combines a more affordable chipset like the Snapdragon SM8835 (potential 8s Elite 2) with the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. This approach would enable them to offer two tiers of flagship devices, broadening their appeal to a more diverse consumer base.</p>

<p>For example, Xiaomi’s Redmi K series, known for balancing cost and high performance, could embrace this strategy next year. The premium Redmi K90 Pro might retain the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 like this year&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/redmi-k80-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">K80 Pro</a>, whereas the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/25/xiaomi-reportedly-developing-7000mah-midrange-phone-snapdragon-8s-elite/">standard K90 could switch</a> to the more economical Snapdragon SM8735/SM8835.</p>

<p>This strategic shift highlights the delicate balance between performance, cost, and consumer demand. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite offers unparalleled processing power and advanced features, its premium pricing can significantly impact the overall cost of a smartphone. By carefully selecting the right chip for each device, manufacturers can optimize their product portfolios and maintain competitive pricing without compromising on performance.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/22/qualcomm-unveils-snapdragon-8-elite-with-all-big-cores-design-to-rival-dimensity-9400/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm unveiled the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite</a> with notable improvements in performance and efficiency over its predecessor. But all of these upgrades came at a cost since the 8 Elite got a sizeable price hike. Now, a fresh leak has hinted at its successor getting another significant price hike as well. So here&#8217;s what we know.</p>

<h2>Snapdragon 8 Elite 2: Flagship Chips Getting More Expensive</h2>

<p>The news arrives from the South Korean publication <a href="https://t.co/2X94vXwdz8" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>KiPost </em></a>(Via <a href="https://x.com/Jukanlosreve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Jukanlosreve</a>). This report claims that Qualcomm might be bringing another significant hike in price for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2) in 2025. The rise in price arrives despite the Snapdragon 8 Elite&#8217;s already hefty price rise. To recall, the Snapdragon 8 Elite was released with a price bump of around 20 to 30 percent.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Snapdragon-8-Elite" class="wp-image-658047" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Snapdragon-8-Elite.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Snapdragon 8 Elite</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>But the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 isn&#8217;t just becoming more expensive for no reason, Qualcomm is expected to bring around a 20 percent improvement in performance with its 2025 flagship chipset. This is in line with one of our <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/12/snapdragon-8-elite-2-and-dimensity-9500-expected-to-offer-25-performance-boost/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">previous reports</a>. As of right now, not a lot of information is available regarding the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. However, the chipmaker might turn to TSMC for its N3P process, which is its latest 3nm process, bringing a performance boost of 20 percent or higher. </p>

<p>So we are not getting another massive performance upgrade with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. This begs the question: are flagship processors for Android smartphones getting too expensive? As key components like cameras, batteries, displays, or chipsets get more expensive, the cost of buying a high-end smartphone is also steadily rising. Unlike the performance jump we got from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/24/snapdragon-8-elite-vs-snapdragon-8-gen-3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to Snapdragon 8 Elite</a> (over 40 percent), a 20 percent upgrade is more in line with a typical annual release. This is still just an unconfirmed report at the moment, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now.</p>

<p>The dust hasn&#8217;t even settled on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>&#8216;s current flagship chip, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/22/qualcomm-unveils-snapdragon-8-elite-with-all-big-cores-design-to-rival-dimensity-9400/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Elite</a>, but rumors are already circulating about its successor. The Snapdragon 8 Elite offers a notable performance boost over its predecessor, thanks to the switch to Oryon cores. Now, a new leak suggests Qualcomm might aim even higher with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.</p>

<p>According to leaker Jukanlosreve, citing sources in Korea, both the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and MediaTek&#8217;s upcoming Dimensity 9500 could hit single-core scores around 4,000 on Geekbench 6.</p>

<p>For context, the Snapdragon 8 Elite currently scores about 3,200 on the same benchmark. So if the leak happens to be true, it would be a 25% performance increase for the 8 Elite 2—a solid upgrade, particularly given the 8 Elite&#8217;s already impressive performance.</p>

<h2><strong>Performance at what cost?</strong></h2>

<p>However, Qualcomm has a history of balancing raw performance with thermal management, and the 8 Elite is no exception. While it pushes the limits in terms of speed, it also tends to run hotter than its predecessors due to its 4.32 GHz clock speed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Therefore, a key question for the 8 Elite 2 will be how Qualcomm will manage these anticipated performance gains while controlling temperatures.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1" class="wp-image-656122" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Elite-launched-specs-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Earlier rumors suggested the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 might be manufactured by both TSMC and Samsung, but <a href="https://x.com/Jukanlosreve/status/1856335142157201503" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">another leak by Jukanlosreve claims</a> that TSMC will be the sole manufacturer of Qualcomm&#8217;s upcoming flagship SoC.</p>

<p>TSMC’s N3P process is said to offer improved performance and better power efficiency than the N3 node used in the 8 Elite. Whether these improvements will mitigate the thermal issues that could accompany a performance jump remains uncertain.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s still early days, and these are just leaks. With the current generation still fresh on the market, it&#8217;s likely to be some time before more concrete details emerge. We’ll keep you updated as new information becomes available.</p>
