Well, it is surprising to hear such a thing from a manufacturer that produces most of the high-end camera modules for smartphones. But that is what reviewers at DxOMark think about one of the last Sony’s flagships. The phone has been tested and reviewed by DxOMark team who gave a detailed opinion about its camera performance, as well as a poor total score of just 79 points. The phone barely appears in the top 50 best camera phones that you can find in the home page of the website, and DxOMark considers it even worse than midrange devices such as the iPhone 7 and the Asus Zenfone 5.

The Sony Xperia XZ3 scored 76 points in the photo department and 85 in the video department, which led to a total score of 79 points. Among its most important qualities, there are good image textures, pleasant colors and great exposure for the photos. On the other hand, from what DxOMark shows, the camera is terrible in low light conditions: it has much slower autofocus which takes up to half a second to work properly, and the saturation is too high.

That results in a lower level of detail and a worse white balance. Sony Xperia XZ3 is not a top-end device even in good light conditions due to a limited dynamic range. There is not even a built-in bokeh mode, and the situation got even worse when DxOMark noticed some artifacts in photos. When it comes to videos, the situation gets a little better due to the image quality and the nice electronic stabilization, but the dynamic range and the autofocus with low light conditions are still disappointing.

Sony Xperia XZ3 comes with a single rear camera boasting a 19 MP resolution and an f/2.0 aperture, as well as a laser autofocus mechanism and electronic stabilization. It can record videos in 4K up to 30 fps with HDR and 1080p up to 960 fps with the super slow motion mode. The device is equipped with a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with up to 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. It is also the first Sony device to come with a P-OLED display which is HDR-compliant and boasts a QHD+ resolution. The score of 79 points obtained by Sony Xperia XZ3 places it right above the Xperia XA2 Ultra. The video shows the device will come with an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The device is expected to come with a 5.9-inch FHD+ display having a resolution of 1080 x 2160 resolution. The device will also have a dimension of 155.7 x 68.3 x 8.4mm but there will be a bump at the camera aspect which will have a thickness of 8.9mm.

No one could expect it, but Sony Xperia XZ3 is a 5G ready smartphone, and it should be the first 5G-ready phone to hit the shelves. That is what the Japanese company just confirmed on Twitter. The only other phone supporting 5G is the new Moto Z3, but it can only support it with the addition of a MotoMod. However, note that the new Sony flagship does not have the capabilities to reach the 2 Gbps max speeds promised by 5G networks as it does not have a 5G modem under the hood. Indeed, it is equipped with the Snapdragon X20 LTE integrated into the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Further, 5G networks are still not available and they will debut in 2019. So, how is the Xperia XZ3 5G ready? Best guess going around is that the company will release a special 5G version of the Xperia XZ3 a few months later, maybe sometime early 2019.

So, at least for now, the fact that Sony Xperia XZ3 is 5G ready does not change anything. The flagship is still not in the market, it will start shipping from October 5 according to a listing surfaced on Amazon Germany. Besides being the first 5G ready phone, Sony Xperia XZ3 is also the first Sony device with an OLED display. The panel comes with a diagonal of 6 inches and a Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels.

The Snapdragon 845 is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, but in Taiwan, there will be a version with 6 GB of RAM, even though we do not know whether or not it will be made available in other countries. The curved rear back of the handset houses a single camera with a resolution of 19 MP and a f/2.0 aperture, while on the front side there is a 13 MP selfie snapper with a f/1.9 aperture. The battery has a 3300 mAh capacity and it supports Quick Charge 3.0 as well as fast charging. In Europe, it will be available with a listing price of €799.(

Now, the official page of the handset has popped up on the Taiwanese website of the company, revealing that the handset will be slightly different in Taiwan compared with the other markets. While the global version was launched with 4 GB of RAM, the version which will be sold in Taiwan will sport 6 GB of RAM and it will obviously provide a better multi-tasking experience. At the moment, it is still unclear whether or not Sony Xperia XZ3 will be launched in a 6 GB RAM configuration even in other markets.

This is not even the first time we are hearing about a 6 GB version of the flagship for the Taiwanese market: some reports from local media have already confirmed it before. Very weird, especially if we think that the company did not mention a 6 GB RAM configuration during the official event held at IFA 2018 at the end of August. If we exclude the 6 GB of RAM, the rest of the specs of the upcoming flagship remain exactly the same as the variant unveiled in Berlin.

Sony Xperia XZ3 will offer the first P-OLED display ever seen on a Sony device, with a size of 6 inches and a Quad HD+ resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels, as well as an 18:9 aspect ratio without notch. The 6 GB RAM will be paired with an octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm clocked at 2.8 GHz and 64 GB of UFS internal storage. The main camera of Sony Xperia XZ3 is a single sensor with a 19 MP resolution, laser autofocus, and predictive PDAF, while the front camera has a 13 MP resolution. At last, there is a 3300 mAh battery and Android Pie out of the box.

But now, just three days before the beginning of the trade show, the upcoming flagship is starring in fresh renders which revealed the existence of four color variants. The handset will be available in the classic Black and White color variants and in two new and original colors: Purple and Green hues. The design will not be so different from the XZ2, with a glass back curved on the borders and an aluminum frame.

But there will be an important difference on the rear glass: the presence of a single rear camera instead of a dual camera setup. But this camera will still be more impressive than the one of its predecessor because it is expected to be the newly-announced Quad Bayer sensor with a 48 MP resolution, the highest resolution ever seen on a mobile device. Above the camera, there is a laser autofocus mechanism and a LED flash, while under it there is a circular fingerprint reader placed at the center of the back cover. With the Sony Xperia XZ3, the Japanese company has decided not to follow the notch bandwagon again: the device features a classic 18:9 display with thick bezels on the upper and lower sides.

According to reports, this display will have a diagonal of 5.7 inches. Sony has already confirmed that it will hold its IFA 2018 conference on August 30, so the date in which Sony Xperia XZ3 will be announced is confirmed. Among the other specs, there should be an octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm running at a max frequency of 2.8 GHz, paired with 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage, depending on the variant you will choose to buy.

However, as suspected, the images were fake. Now, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) shared new 360-degree renders of Sony Xperia XZ3, revealing the new updated design.

The new renders of the smartphone revealed that the front will come with a tall full-screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio. While the phone has a taller display and thin bezels on the sides, the top and the bottom bezels are pretty big. On the bottom bezel, there’s Sony branding.

From the images, it seems that the phone will come with a single camera sensor on the back, along with an LED flash. Just below the camera module, there’s a circular fingerprint sensor for added security. On the right side, there’s a volume rocker and power button. There’s a USB port on the bottom and it seems that Sony has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack.

The glass bodied smartphone has rounded corners, which seems like a welcome design change compared to the usual rectangular slab type design. The phone, which measures 158.3 x 73.08 x 9.9/10.1 mm, is expected to come with wireless charging support.

Previous leaks related to the smartphone revealed that the Sony Xperia XZ3 will come with a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display with 2160 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, just like its predecessor. Under the hood, it’ll be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with 6GB RAM.

The phone will be offered in two storage options — 64GB and 128GB and there’ll be a microSD card slot which will enable users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity. Contrary to the new information, the previous report suggested dual camera setup on the back, consisting of a 19MP primary sensor and a 12MP secondary sensor.

On the front side, the upcoming flagship smartphone from Sony will come equipped with a 13MP snapper with f/2.0 aperture for taking selfies and video calling. The device will be running Android 9.0 P operating system out-of-the-box and will be powered by 3,240mAh battery with Quick Charge fast charging support.

While it has not confirmed the Xperia XZ3 launch at IFA, reports indicate that the XZ3 and XZ3 Compact will get unveiled at IFA 2018. The Sony Xperia XZ3 is speculated to carry a price tag of EUR 849, which is roughly $995.

Sony usually takes advantage of the conference in Berlin to unveil new flagships from the XZ series, and it seems that the same will happen at IFA 2018. The Japanese company has already started sending invites for the upcoming event and it has confirmed that it will hold a press conference in which a new product will be unveiled. The conference will take place on August 30 at 1 PM CET (IFA 2018 will last from August 30 to September 5).

The most reliable hypotheses obviously suggest that the new Sony Xperia XZ3 line-up will be the leading star of the press conference. Last year, the company announced the XZ2 series at IFA, composed of the standard variant and the XZ2 Compact. This year we may see Sony Xperia XZ3 and XZ3 Compact. Until now, no official info has surfaced about this line-up, but we have several leaks suggesting some of its most important specs. The flagship has already been spotted on Geekbench with the model number H8526.

If the leak is to be believed, the phone will be powered by the new Snapdragon 855 chipset by Qualcomm, that is the best mobile chipset from Qualcomm (yet to hit the market). According to Geekbench, the device has 8 GB of RAM. With such hardware, the XZ3 would be the best smartphone in the market in terms of performance, at least on the paper. The handset has also registered impressive scores: 3033 points in single core performance and 10992 points in multi core. From what rumors suggest, it might be the first phone with the 5G connectivity, despite the first 5G-powered devices are expected in 2019.

According to a new leaked photo surfaced on the known publication Sumahoinfo, the upcoming flagship will sport four cameras. The photo shows two camera setups: a dual camera which will be placed on the rear side and a dual selfie camera. Note that the Japanese company has already released two devices with dual cameras: the Xperia XZ2 Premium with a dual rear camera and the Xperia XA2 Ultra with a dual front camera.

But until now, it has never launched a handset with four cameras. It looks like Sony Xperia XZ3 will be the first. According to the source, it will be showcased at IFA 2018 in Berlin, one of the most important trade shows related to technology which will take place in September. We expect the flagship to come alongside the XZ3 Compact, a smaller and pocketable variant of the flagship. According to reports, the flagship will arrive with a glass back as well as an aluminum frame with the IP65/68 certification which will make it waterproof.

RELATED: Sony Xperia XA2 Plus with 6-inch 18:9 display, SD630, 6 GB RAM is official

Sony Xperia XZ3 should have a medium sized display with a 5.7-inch diagonal, an 18:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution. On the hardware side, it should come with the octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset or its successor 855, while the RAM should be 6 GB or more and the internal storage should start from 64 GB. Just like most of Sony devices we expect the XZ3 to offer high resolutions for its four cameras, as well as bright apertures and very advanced technologies such as predictive autofocus and the support to 960 fps slow motion.
