While countries like the USA vouched for 6G long back, it looks like Chinese companies are now hopping on the train slowly. Qin Fei, who is a Dean of Vivo Communications Research Institute, says 6G requires smartphones, AR, VR, and Robotics to build a better wireless network.

At a 6G series meeting held by Vivo, he says(via ITHome) Vivo has begun the 6G research and subsequent scenarios. He feels 6G will emphasize more on AR(Augmented Reality), VR(Virtual Reality), and other adjacent technologies. According to him, future AR/VR glasses will be much thinner, comfortable. And will be in sync with a brain-computer to read people’s minds.

After 2030, multi-function robots will replace the current primary ones with updated AI-intelligence. And advancement in other technologies, predicts Fei. However, he says Smartphones are less likely to get replaced in 6G era. Complexity of touch screen, custom communication modules, computing unit, ARM cores, etc., are reportedly the reasons for that.

Furthermore, he says Vivo prefers to develop more 2C(To C) terminals in the future. When asked about the differences between 5G and 6G, he says, 6G will focus on strengthening to predecessors like 5G, 4G. Also, 6G will combine AI to become a complete service by integrating communication, computation, and storage. However, he says 6G≠5G+AI.

That said, Vivo is not the only company to embrace the next generation of wireless communication technology. South Korean giant LG, and Samsung have already begun its R&D. And Samsung is expecting that 6G will launch commercially by 2028. Nevertheless, 6G will probably have improvements like 1 terabyte per second(1 Tbps) speed, MEC(multi-access edge computing), faster sampling rates, combination of sub-mmWave, and Frequency Selectivity for better EM absorption rates, etc.

Its been a long time since Vivo updated its XPlay lineup with a new device. But that’s going to change soon since the company has started releasing teasers for the same. Vivo has confirmed that the Vivo XPlay 5 will come with a borderless design. So, it looks like the flagship will come with dual curved screens. We should have actually guessed it from yesterday’s teaser itself. However at that time, we assumed the teaser showed off the top of the smartphone. But now, with the dual curved screen design confirmed, we can actually see that the teaser yesterday had already hinted about this feature.

The dual curved screen panel would most likely be from Samsung since industry chain sources had earlier revealed that the South Korean giant had improved the production capacity of its panels and was ready to supply it to domestic manufacturers. It looks like Vivo could be the first company outside of Samsung to use this curved screen panel.

While dual curved screen display would be the selling point of the device, yesterday’s Vivo XPlay 5 specs leak revealed a lot many other interesting features. It is said that the phone will come with the fast Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset along with 6GB of RAM. This would make it the first phone with such a large RAM memory. Other rumored specs include a 6-inch 2K display, 4000mAh battery and Hi-Fi audio.

Vivo is really taking things to the next level with its XPlay 5 flagship. So, it looks like two years of waiting might very well be worth it. After several months of silence, it looks like Vivo is preparing itself for the launch of multiple devices. Earlier this week, the company confirmed that the upcoming Vivo X5Pro flagship will feature a beautiful 2.5D glass. But Vivo may have another device in store for us.

A new leak on Weibo has revealed another Vivo device called as the Vivo XShot 3S. This particular phone could be unveiled alonside the Xshot Pro and is said to feature high-end specs.

The phone is rumoured  to come with a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display with a powerful Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor underneath. However, the real highlight of the phone will be its 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM which could be expandable.

Like most Vivo devices, this phone is said to be targeted at camera lovers as it will feature a 16MP OIS Rear camera with an 8MP front facing selfie shooter. Finally, the cherry on the top is the laser focus which should definitely improve the focus times.

The phone seems to be using 2.5D glass much like the Vivo X5Pro. At the back, you can see the large sensor, which protrudes from the overall body. Besides it, there’s a dual tone color temperature flash. The picture also reveals that the Vivo XShot 3S will feature a dedicated camera button, which isn’t surprising given that its a camera centric device. Also, the speakers are located at the bottom instead of the tradition rear placement.
