Vivo just unveiled the new X100s series of flagship smartphones in China. The newer devices arrive about half a year after the X100 series and are basically a mid-year refresh. But what are all the upgrades? And what are the new changes? Let’s find out.

Vivo X100s Pro vs X100 Pro: Slight bump in performance

The Vivo X100 Pro was first announced back in November 2023. It featured MediaTek’s flagship grade processor, the Dimensity 9300. Now, the successor X100s Pro model has launched with an updated chipset, which is the Dimensity 9300+ SoC. This new chip offering improved performance thanks to a higher boost clock speed of 3.4GHz, but it even offers improved APU performance of 10 percent in on-device AI related tasks as well.

Design & Display

Apart from the chipset, the differences between the two models are quite negligible. The X100 Pro sports a tall 6.78-inch curved LTPO AMOLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3000 nits of peak brightness, which is basically mirrored on the newer X100s Pro as well.

Even in terms of design, the two high-end devices look practically identical with a curved display on the front and a glass panel with a large circular camera island on the back. Both devices offer water and dust resistance, but the newer X100s Pro features an IP69 rating over the IP68 rating of the X100 Pro.

Colors: Not as bright anymore

The Chinese brand seems to have opted for a more sober color scheme on the X100s Pro. To recall, the Vivo X100 Pro came in Star Trail Blue, Sunset Orange, White Moonlight, and Cheyne Black color options. But now, the X100s Pro is only available in Titanium, White, and Black/Dark Gray variants.

Camera: More of the same

Vivo might have determined that the X100 Pro’s camera hardware was great since it seems like it has returned on the X100s Pro. Even the official website shows that the camera setup has returned untouched. The Vivo X100 Pro and X100s Pro feature a triple camera setup on the rear.

All three sensors are a 50-megapixel shooter. The primary is a one-inch sensor that offers OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), which is paired with an ultra wide angle lens, and a Zeiss APO super-telephoto camera that offers 4.3x optical zoom and 100x hybrid zoom. Meanwhile, the devices house a 32-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calls.

Price Hike

The pricing of the two smartphones follows the same philosophy. So there are barely any changes again. The Vivo X100 Pro started from CNY 4,999 ($700) for its 12GB + 256GB model. The 16GB RAM + 256GB, 16GB RAM + 512GB, and 16GB RAM + 1TB options cost CNY 5,299 ($726), CNY 5,499 ($800), and CNY 5,999 ($822) respectively.

Vivo has managed to keep the starting price of the Vivo X100s Pro the same at CNY 4,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. But for the 16GB + 512GB and 16GB + 1TB versions, you pay CNY 5,599 ($774) and CNY 6,199 ($857) respectively. So there is a marginal hike in price for the updated X100s Pro.

Earlier today, Vivo held a launch event to debut the Vivo X100 Ultra smartphone in China. Along with the Ultra model, the brand has also unveiled the Vivo X100s and X100s Pro smartphones as well. These new phones feature the new and improved Dimesnity 9300+ processor, instead of the Dimensity 9300 featured on the X100 and X100 Pro. This newly launched chip has a higher boost clock speed of 3.4GHz, as well as improved APU which provides a 10% boost in on-device AI tasks.

Vivo X100s & X100s Pro specs & features:

The Vivo X100s and X100s Pro both feature a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display (flat display on the X100s and curved display on the X100s Pro) that delivers a crisp 2800 x 1260 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. The displays offer a 93.43% screen-to-body ratio, 3000 nits peak brightness, as well as 1.07 billion colors and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Both camera systems are capable of 100x digital zoom. The Pro model offers up to 8K video recording, while the non-Pro model is limited to 4K. As for selfies, both models feature a 32MP front camera with a f/2.0 lens.

The X100s is equipped with a 5100mAh battery, while the Pro model features a larger 5400mAh unit. The Pro model comes with the option of 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, while the vanilla variant comes with only 100W wired charging support. Both models have received an IP69 rating, indicating strong resistance to high-temperature water jets, on top of the standard IPX8 rating for submersion.

New smartphones don’t stop coming. Three brands have scheduled events for next week.

Two of these launches will happen in India, while the remaining one will be held in China. Only the latter conference will witness the debut of premium devices.

The two Indian events will be headed by iQOO and Samsung. On the other hand, Vivo will host the event in China.

Vivo X100 Ultra and Vivo X100s Series

Vivo has scheduled an event in China for May 13 (Monday). The conference will begin at 7 PM GMT+8.

The company will unveil three devices, namely Vivo X100 Ultra, Vvio X100s, and Vivo X100s Pro. As the name suggests, the former will be the most premium of all, whereas the latter two will be refined versions of X100 and X100 Pro from late last year.

The Ultra will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip as opposed to a Dimensity 9300 Plus SoC inside the other two phones. It will feature top-end camera hardware comprising a 50MP Sony LYT-900 1-inch primary sensor, a 200MP 1/1.4-inch periscope telephoto shooter, and a 50MP ultrawide unit.

iQOO Z9x

The iQOO Z9x is set to launch in India on May 16 (Thursday). It will be positioned below the iQOO Z9.

The device is teased to arrive with a 6.72-inch 120Hz 1000 nits display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC, 2 years of Android updates, a 50MP rear camera, a 6,000mAh battery, and 44W charging support.

Other features of the handset will include dual stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and an IP65 rating.

Samsung Galaxy F55

The Samsung Galaxy F55 is planned to go official in India on May 17 (Friday). The product will be a rebranded version of the China-only Galaxy C55 for global markets.

The phone will share most of its specs with the Galaxy M55. However, it will come with the most unique design in Samsung’s current smartphone portfolio. The device will sport a vegan leather back, unlike any other recent Samsung handsets.

As far as specs are concerned, the product will arrive with a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, a 50MP rear camera, a 50MP selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery, and 45W charging support.

According to Digital Chat Station, a wave of new smartphones is hitting the market after the ongoing May Day holidays in China. The screenshot below shows that the leaker has hinted at the arrival of six flagship-grade phones, without explicitly mentioning their names. He’s probably talking about the Realme GT Neo 6, the Vivo X100 series, the Oppo Reno 12 lineup, and the Meizu 21 Note.

Vivo is reportedly developing a new X-series of smartphones for the Chinese market. The lineup is expected to comprise three models: the Vivo X100s, X100s Pro, and X100 Ultra. According to a report by the Chinese publication Jiemian News, the X100 Ultra will be the company’s first smartphone to feature its self-developed imaging brand, BlueImage.

Vivo-Zeiss collaboration to end soon?

Vivo X100 Pro

The introduction of Vivo’s BlueImage self-developed imaging brand will mark the second independent imaging brand in the mobile phone industry after Huawei’s XMAGE, which debuted in July 2022. Currently, not much is known about what BlueImage will offer.

To recall, Vivo trademarked the BlueImage brand in November of last year. Its product services include a variety of imaging-related projects, such as graphics processors, optical lenses, and sensors.

Huawei began its collaboration with the legendary German camera and optics manufacturer Leica back in 2016. As mentioned above, Huawei introduced its independent imaging system, XMAGE, in 2022. Several reports have claimed that the phone has been renamed the Vivo X100 Ultra and is scheduled to debut in the second quarter of this year. Vivo’s Vice President for Product, Huang Tao, confirmed via Weibo that the company will soon launch phones with satellite communication support. The Chinese market is about to welcome a couple of new Vivo devices. On March 26, the brand will announce the Vivo X Fold 3 series of foldable phones, the Vivo Pad 3 Pro tablet, and the Vivo TWS 4 earbuds. The brand is said to be working on the Vivo X100s series of smartphones as well as the Vivo X100 Ultra, a premium flagship phone. It appears that the X100s may launch in April in India, as the X100s Pro model has received approval from the 3C certification platform in China.

Vivo X100s Pro receives 3C certification

Vivo unveiled the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro in November 2023 in China as the world’s first Dimensity 9300 powered smartphones. The Chinese variants of both phones have V2309A and V2324A model numbers. It is speculated that the upcoming Vivo X100s and X100s Pro will have an additional “H” letter in their model numbers. Hence, the X100s and X100s Pro are said to have V2309HA and V2324HA model numbers, respectively.

The above screenshot shows that the 3C authority in China has approved the alleged Vivo X100s Pro with the V2324HA model number. The 3C certification of the device has revealed that the device may come equipped with a 120W fast charger.

Previously, the same device was spotted in Geekbench’s database with an overclocked version of the Dimensity 9300 chip. Hence, it appears that the Vivo X100s Pro could be the first phone to feature the Dimensity 9300 Plus chipset. Speculation suggests that the X100s, potentially launching alongside the Pro model, will boast the same chip.

Apart from featuring the new chip, the X100s and X100s Pro are expected to pack the same specifications that are available on the X100 and X100 Pro. The release of the X100s series outside of China remains uncertain.

Vivo V2324HA surfaces on certification and Geekbench, could be X100s Pro

A new Vivo smartphone, with the model number V2324HA, has recently appeared on China’s Radio Certification database and the Geekbench benchmarking platform. There’s speculation that it might be the Vivo X100S Pro smartphone.

While the device’s presence is confirmed by both Radio Certification and Geekbench, its official name is still under wraps. We’ll have to wait for more reports to know for sure.

China’s Radio Certification doesn’t give any specific details about the smartphone. However, Geekbench listings provide information about the device’s processor configuration.

The chip consists of a 3.4GHz Cortex-X4 core, three 2.85GHz Cortex-X4 cores, and four 2.0GHz Cortex-A720 cores. The GPU is listed as an Immortalis-G720 MC12, clocked at 1300 MHz.

Though the SoC core CPU architecture resembles that of the Dimensity 9300, there’s a difference in the primary core’s clock speed, which is 3.25GHz for the Dimensity 9300. This suggests it could be an upgraded version of the Dimensity 9300.

According to Weibo tipster WhyLab, the processor could be the Dimensity 9300+ which is expected to launch in April.

Based on this estimated processor release, the tipster suggests that the Vivo X100S Pro could see a launch sometime in late April or early May. It’s possible the device will debut alongside the Vivo X100 Ultra smartphone.

Previous reports have hinted at some specifications of the smartphone. It’s said to offer 100W wired fast charging and runs on a 5,000mAh battery.

There’s also speculation that the phone might include a short-focus optical in-display fingerprint scanner, along with a metal frame and a glass rear panel.
