Apple has released new developer preview betas for both watchOS and visionOS.

watchOS 10.6 Developer Preview Beta

• Released today, June 18th, 2024.

• This update arrives 48 days after the previous release.

Starting with iOS/iPadOS 16.4 Developer Preview Beta 1, installing developer previews requires registering for the Apple Developer Program. Once registered, users can navigate to Settings > Software Update on their iPhone or iPad to see the update option.

The device used for the update must be logged in with the same Apple ID used during registration with the Apple Developer Program. This change applies to future versions of all operating systems, with configuration profiles no longer granting access to developer previews and public betas.

visionOS 1.3 Developer Preview Beta

• Released today, June 18th, 2024.
• Internal version number: 21O5747c.
• This update arrives 41 days after the previous release.

Due to potential caching issues on Apple’s node servers in various regions, some users might experience a slight delay in receiving the update notification. This delay is typically within 30 minutes and shouldn’t be significant.

Apple has released a new security update for its iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch to address two zero-day vulnerabilities. Zero-day vulnerabilities are security flaws that are unknown to the software vendor and have not yet been patched. This makes them a serious threat, as attackers can exploit them without any resistance from the software.

The vulnerabilities addressed in the latest update are CVE-2023-41064 and CVE-2023-41061. They allow attackers to install malware on a device by loading a malicious image or attachment. The malware can then be used to steal data, track the user’s location, or take control of the device.

These vulnerabilities were first reported by the Citizen Lab, a spyware research group, at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto. Citizen Lab says that the vulnerabilities were being used to install NSO Group’s Pegasus mercenary spyware onto the iPhone. Not in the know, Pegasus is a powerful spyware tool that infects a phone and sends back data, including photos, messages, and audio / video recordings.

So it’s recommended that all users update their devices to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS as soon as possible. The updates can be downloaded from the Settings app. 

This is the second zero-day vulnerability that Apple has patched in recent months. In July, Apple released an update to address a zero-day vulnerability that was being exploited by attackers to install malware on iPhones and iPads.

The frequency of zero-day vulnerabilities is increasing, and it is important for users to keep their devices up to date with the latest security patches. By doing so, they can help to protect themselves from these serious threats.

This is due to the fact that controlling the new widgets in this build requires using the Digital Crown. Users can simplify their experience by activating Night Mode using the Wayfinder face, either by enabling it manually or adjusting the settings in watchOS 10.

Earlier this week, Apple started rolling out the watchOS 7.3.1 for its Apple Watch Series 5 and Watch SE models. This new update would bring a fix that would prevent a bug which caused these wearable devices to get stuck in the Power Reserve mode.

As per a new support document shared by the Cupertino based giant (Via 9To5Mac), the company gave out additional details regarding this bug. For those unaware, the Power Reserve mode allows users to see the time on the Apple Watch while preserving battery life. However, it shuts off the communication between users’ wearable and their iPhone. In otehr words, various features and functionalities are unavailable in this mode.

Despite the fix being rolled out, the company also announced in the document that a “very small number” of the owners of these devices have “experienced an issue with their watch not charging after it enters Power Reserve.” The OEM stated that the watchOS 7.3.1 that was recently rolled out will help prevent “this issue from happening to other Apple Watch Series 5 or Apple Watch SE devices.”

Unfortunately, this implies that those this would only prevent anyone from receiving this bug, and not help those that are already suffering from it. But, the company is ready with a solution. Users suffering from this issue can simply contact its official support team, for a mail in repair, which will be free of charge. Although, the device will be examined before the service to verify whether or not its eligible for the free repairs, as stated by the iPhone maker.

These new images of the wearable prototype from the Cupertino based giant were shared on Twitter by Apple Demo (via 9To5Mac). It is surprising to see such an old prototype, especially considering it hasn’t been destroyed and even features fully functioning internal software and development settings as well. Looking at these images, one can observe that the prototype is covered by what appears to be a security case that disguises the device.

For those unaware, it is done to hide the design and look of a prototype device. Apple Demo also found a reference to the Apple Lisa computer from the 1980s, as there is a Lisa Simpson, which is used as an app icon on the Apple Watch prototype for the “Lisa Tester.” Similarly, this is also where the “Springboard zoom” app is housed, which includes an interactive experience of what the watchOS home screen would look like.

Additionally, iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 brings support for NFC, USB, and Lightning FIDO2-compliant security keys. In other words, the update adds a physical security key to your iPhone and iPad which allows for better account privacy and protection across social media and emails.

The New tvOS 13.3 and watchOS 6.1.1

Alongside the iPhone and iPad update, Apple also rolled out software upgrades for its Apple TVs and its Apple Watches. tvOS 13.3 brings new settings that allow users to bring back the “Up Next” queue to your Apple TV home screen which was removed in tvOS 13. Now, users can switch between showing “What to Watch” and “Up Next” section.

Lastly, Apple launched watchOS 6.1.1 for every compatible Apple Watch models. The new update claims to provide “important security updates” but apart from this, it doesn’t bring any notable changes.

To download tvOS 13.3, users have to open Settings>System>Software Updates. For watchOS 6.1.1, users must look for My Watch Tab on the Watch app which is available in the iPhone and then visit General>Software Updates.
Note: Your Apple Watch should have at least 50 percent battery life remaining or charge it when updating.
