watchOS 10.6 Developer Preview Beta

Released today, June 18th, 2024.

Internal version number: 21U5551b.

This update arrives 48 days after the previous release.

Starting with iOS/iPadOS 16.4 Developer Preview Beta 1, installing developer previews requires registering for the Apple Developer Program. Once registered, users can navigate to Settings > Software Update on their iPhone or iPad to see the update option.

The device used for the update must be logged in with the same Apple ID used during registration with the Apple Developer Program. This change applies to future versions of all operating systems, with configuration profiles no longer granting access to developer previews and public betas.

visionOS 1.3 Developer Preview Beta

Released today, June 18th, 2024.

Internal version number: 21O5747c.

This update arrives 41 days after the previous release.

Due to potential caching issues on Apple’s node servers in various regions, some users might experience a slight delay in receiving the update notification. This delay is typically within 30 minutes and shouldn’t be significant.

Apple has released a new security update for its iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch to address two zero-day vulnerabilities. Zero-day vulnerabilities are security flaws that are unknown to the software vendor and have not yet been patched. This makes them a serious threat, as attackers can exploit them without any resistance from the software.

The vulnerabilities addressed in the latest update are CVE-2023-41064 and CVE-2023-41061. They allow attackers to install malware on a device by loading a malicious image or attachment. The malware can then be used to steal data, track the user’s location, or take control of the device.

These vulnerabilities were first reported by the Citizen Lab, a spyware research group, at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto. Citizen Lab says that the vulnerabilities were being used to install NSO Group’s Pegasus mercenary spyware onto the iPhone. Not in the know, Pegasus is a powerful spyware tool that infects a phone and sends back data, including photos, messages, and audio / video recordings.

So it’s recommended that all users update their devices to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS as soon as possible. The updates can be downloaded from the Settings app.

This is the second zero-day vulnerability that Apple has patched in recent months. In July, Apple released an update to address a zero-day vulnerability that was being exploited by attackers to install malware on iPhones and iPads.

The frequency of zero-day vulnerabilities is increasing, and it is important for users to keep their devices up to date with the latest security patches. By doing so, they can help to protect themselves from these serious threats.

The Apple Watch is a highly popular and innovative wearable device by Apple Inc. The Watch provides seamless integration with iPhones, allowing users to receive notifications, make calls, send messages, and access various apps directly from their wrists. It also offers health and fitness tracking features, such as heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, and even an electrocardiogram (ECG) feature. With its sleek design, intuitive interface, and vast array of features, the Apple Watch has become a must-have accessory for tech-savvy individuals seeking a convenient and connected lifestyle. In the latest update, Apple Watch Ultra features such as Night Mode get an upgrade.

Night Mode is only compatible with the Apple Watch Wayfinder watch face

One of the notable features coming to the Apple Watch is the introduction of widgets that can be controlled using the Digital Crown. These widgets will be organized into a Smart Stack, tailored to the user’s routine. Another noteworthy addition is Auto Night Mode, exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra. By utilizing the ambient light sensor, the watch will automatically activate Night Mode when the light levels are low. This mode eliminates blue light, which can strain the eyes, and presents a red and black interface that is both visually clear and less irritating at night. Plus, it looks really cool on the OLED display of the Apple Watch Ultra. It’s worth mentioning that Night Mode is compatible only with the Wayfinder watch face, so users need to ensure it is selected for this feature to work, whether manually or automatically.

The default setting for Auto Night Mode in watchOS 10 on the Apple Watch Ultra is yet to be confirmed, but it would be practical to have it enabled by default. This is due to the fact that controlling the new widgets in this build requires using the Digital Crown. Users can simplify their experience by activating Night Mode using the Wayfinder face, either by enabling it manually or adjusting the settings in watchOS 10.

The Mindfulness app allows discreet logging of emotions and moods, while the Health app provides insights into factors affecting mental health.
Apple is known for being the perfectionist of the tech world, but sometimes, things don’t always go according to plan. Recently, Apple’s latest updates to iOS and iPadOS resulted in lightning-to-USB adapters ceasing to work for Apple users, creating widespread frustration among its consumers. While it seemed that Apple is working on a solution for the same, another bug has popped up – this time with some iterations of the company’s best-selling product, the Apple Watch. Although the company has yet to acknowledge the problem officially, it is only a matter of time before a resolution is provided.

Surprisingly, Apple Watch Ultra units remain unaffected by this bug

Apple Watch Series 8 owners and users of older models have reported a peculiar discoloration on their device displays after updating to watchOS 9.5. This issue has gained attention on various online platforms, including Reddit, where affected individuals have shared their observations. The most common complaint is the appearance of a green tint in areas such as the notification center, control center, and lock screen. However, some unfortunate users have experienced color changes in other menus, UI elements, and applications.

Interestingly, the bug is more noticeable on certain devices compared to others. Additionally, many users who have updated to watchOS 9.5 have not encountered any problems. Some individuals have even reported their screens displaying shades of grey instead of green. Notably, there have been no reports of this discoloration occurring on Apple Watch Ultra units. Surprisingly, the Apple Watch SE and SE 2 models appear to be largely unaffected by the green or grey tint bug. Nevertheless, regardless of the Apple watch model you own, it may be a good idea to delay the watchOS 9.5 update if you have not already installed it.

Based on past experiences, it is likely that Apple will release a patch in the near future, possibly as part of the upcoming watchOS 9.6 software rollout. This update should address the green tint issue and provide relief to those who have been experiencing this unexpected problem.

In anticipation of the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple has surprised users with a new batch of major OS updates. The tech giant recently rolled out iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, and macOS 13.4, each packed with exciting features for sports enthusiasts. Notably, all three updates introduce a dedicated Apple News section solely focused on sports, allowing users to stay updated on rankings, scores, and captivating stories without the hassle of sifting through unrelated articles.

The Latest Apple Update focuses on a dedicated News section for Sports

To further enhance the sports viewing experience, Apple TV 4K users can now enjoy the Multiview feature within the TV app. This innovative addition enables users to simultaneously stream up to four sports events. However, it remains uncertain whether third-party services will be supported in this feature.

While these new features steal the spotlight, other improvements are also noteworthy. iOS 16.5 and watchOS 9.5 bring a touch of inclusivity with the addition of Pride-themed wallpaper and watch face options. These vibrant customization options celebrate diversity and allow users to express their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Moreover, the updates include various bug fixes, addressing issues such as CarPlay and Spotlight on iOS, as well as Screen Time syncing on multiple platforms.

Rumors suggest that Apple’s OS updates are far from over. Sources indicate that iOS 16.6 is currently undergoing private testing and may even offer a public beta in the near future. As Apple gradually wraps up work on its current software, it is clear that the company is gearing up to deliver major updates this fall.

With these latest OS updates, Apple continues to cater to the diverse interests of its user base. The company recently unveiled a huge list of accessibility-centred updates to its OS. By introducing dedicated sports sections, enhancing the sports streaming experience, and embracing inclusivity with Pride-themed options, Apple demonstrates its commitment to providing a seamless and personalized user experience. As users eagerly await future unveils, Apple’s dedication to diverse updates remains unwavering.

Apple Watch is the best-selling smartwatch globally and is one of the most successful products coming from the Cupertino-based technology giant in the recent years.

While hardware plays a major role in the successor of the product, software is also a vital part and this is where Apple hit the sweet spot and the company keeps on improving it with updates.

Apple Watch

The company is now working on a new version of the watchOS, the operating system which is powering the Apple Watch lineup. The upcoming watchOS 10 will bring widgets to the smartwatch.

According to the report from Mark Gurman, watchOS 10 will be one of the biggest software updates from Apple as it will bring fundamental changes to how the device works. After getting rid of Glances feature, the company is now brining back widgets which is said to become a central part of the interface.

Gurman claims that the new widgets system will be a combination of Glances and style of widgets introduced in iOS 14. Users will be able to scroll through different widgets to get information instead of having to open the application. The feature is expected to be available as an overlay for the watchface.

Although the company has not yet confirmed this, the upcoming Apple watchOS 10 is expected to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference aka WWDC in June this year. It will be rolled out with the Apple Watch Series 9 later this year and should be available for older models by the end of this year.

The operating system offers a variety of features that allow users to stay connected, track fitness activities, and control other Apple devices. WatchOS supports a wide range of apps, including social media, productivity tools, and health and wellness applications. Additionally, it features the company’s digital assistant, Siri, and provides notifications for incoming calls, texts, and emails.

Apple’s highly anticipated WWDC Developers Conference is just around the corner, scheduled to commence on June 5th at Apple Park. Aside from showcasing their much-anticipated mixed reality headset “Reality Pro“, Apple is also expected to provide a sneak peek into the upcoming updates of their operating systems, including iOS 17 and watchOS 10. Notably, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, watchOS 10 is expected to feature significant UI changes. These changes may include an interface overhaul, new watch faces, gesture control, an array of new shortcuts or even new applications that may contribute to the user experience of the Apple Watch user overall.

Despite no significant hardware changes being expected following the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra, Gurman predicts larger displays for the Apple Watch Series 10 models to be launched next year. Watch enthusiasts can expect a more significant watchOS 10 upgrade compared to iOS 17, which will be coordinated with the release of the latest Apple Watch models in September. Being the best-selling smartwatches in the world, it is apparent that the company has to go above and beyond with its R&D for new features and integrations for the same. Who knows, Apple might introduce another big health-tracking feature with the new update that is purely software oriented. Regardless, fans of the product will have to wait just a couple of more months to see what Apple has in store for them.

For those unaware, the Power Reserve mode allows users to see the time on the Apple Watch while preserving battery life. However, it shuts off the communication between users’ wearable and their iPhone. In otehr words, various features and functionalities are unavailable in this mode.

Despite the fix being rolled out, the company also announced in the document that a “very small number” of the owners of these devices have “experienced an issue with their watch not charging after it enters Power Reserve.” The OEM stated that the watchOS 7.3.1 that was recently rolled out will help prevent “this issue from happening to other Apple Watch Series 5 or Apple Watch SE devices.”

Users suffering from this issue can simply contact its official support team, for a mail in repair, which will be free of charge. Although, the device will be examined before the service to verify whether or not its eligible for the free repairs, as stated by the iPhone maker.

It is surprising to see such an old prototype, especially considering it hasn’t been destroyed and even features fully functioning internal software and development settings as well. Looking at these images, one can observe that the prototype is covered by what appears to be a security case that disguises the device.

For those unaware, it is done to hide the design and look of a prototype device. Notably, this version of the Apple Watch also arrives without the Digital Crown and features two buttons on the left side along with a supposed home button of sorts, which is built into the case itself. Furthermore, the software is pre-watchOS 1.0, and the tweet also mentions that its internal build is working with a number of images showcasing its UI and other functions.

Apple Demo also found a reference to the Apple Lisa computer from the 1980s, as there is a Lisa Simpson, which is used as an app icon on the Apple Watch prototype for the “Lisa Tester.” Similarly, this is also where the “Springboard zoom” app is housed, which includes an interactive experience of what the watchOS home screen would look like.

These updates bring a lot of new updates and fixes across the Cupertino-based company’s product ecosystem. For the iPhone, iOS 13.3 has been rolled out while the iPad receives iPadOS 13.3. Alongside this, even the watchOS for Apple Watch and tvOS for its Apple TV received an update as well.

The New iOS 13.3 & iPadOS 13.3

Apple has rolled out updates for two of its most popular platforms, namely the iPhone and iPad, in just under a month. Previously, the company had freshly introduced iOS 13.2.3 and iPadOS 13.2.3. The new update also brings many bug fixes and performance optimizations but also adds new features to the devices as well.

One of these is the new Parental control which provides additional communication limits to parents. This lets parents choose who their children can call, message or FaceTime. The new additions are an extension of the Screen Time feature which was introduced back in iOS 12 last year and lets parents directly manage contacts from their children’s devices. For those looking for this feature, it can be found through the Communication Limits section from the Screen Time settings.

Additionally, iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 brings support for NFC, USB, and Lightning FIDO2-compliant security keys. This can be used for securely browsing websites on Safari and other platforms like Dropbox, Facebook, Gmail, and Twitter. In other words, the update adds a physical security key to your iPhone and iPad which allows for better account privacy and protection across social media and emails.

Those seeking to update their iPhones and iPads can check if their devices have any pending updates by going to Settings>General>Software Update.
Note: Make sure to have your device connected to a Wi-Fi and that it has an ample supply of battery life remaining.

The New tvOS 13.3 and watchOS 6.1.1

Alongside the iPhone and iPad update, Apple also rolled out software upgrades for its Apple TVs and its Apple Watches. tvOS 13.3 brings new settings that allow users to bring back the “Up Next” queue to your Apple TV home screen which was removed in tvOS 13. Now, users can switch between showing “What to Watch” and “Up Next” section.

Lastly, Apple launched watchOS 6.1.1 for every compatible Apple Watch models. The new update claims to provide “important security updates” but apart from this, it doesn’t bring any notable changes.

To download tvOS 13.3, users have to open Settings>System>Software Updates. For watchOS 6.1.1, users must look for My Watch Tab on the Watch app which is available in the iPhone and then visit General>Software Updates.
Note: Your Apple Watch should have at least 50 percent battery life remaining or charge it when updating.
