Xiaomi sure knows how to take on the competition. The Chinese tech giant is set to battle for the leadership of the television market in Indonesia with the likes of Samsung, LG, Panasonic and others. The affordable Mi TV 4A 32-inch model is the company’s first smart TV to go official in Indonesia. The price of the cheap Mi TV 4A gets even cheaper in Indonesia where it is priced way cheaper than the 32-inch models by other competing brands. To complement the TV segment, Xiaomi also launched the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A budget smartphones.

The Xiaomi Mi TV 4A (32 inches) uses a plastic housing with its entire body coming in black colour. As a result of the plastic body in use, the new Mi TV 4A comes with a highly reduced weight which is just 3.9Kg, making it suitable to be easily carried around. When the base is attached to the TV frame, the weight goes up to 3.94Kg.

On the specifications, the Mi TV 4A features a 32-inch display with a rather disappointing resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels and refresh rate of 60Hz. The TV has a viewing angle of 178 degrees. DESIGN

In terms of design, the Redmi 6 looks very similar to other Xiaomi phones. The build quality is great but I’m a bit disappointed that the phone is made entirely of plastic. We have a 5.45” 18:9 display that I found to be pretty good overall but I wish it was brighter for outdoor use. Also, I wish it had 1080p resolution.

Just above the display, we have a 5MP selfie camera and LED notification light.

On the back, there is a dual camera system and a fast and reliable fingerprint scanner.

There is also a face unlock feature that works quite well but I always prefer using a fingerprint reader.

Other features you need to know: the phone has a hybrid dual-SIM card slot, a headset jack that provides good sound quality, the phone uses a micro USB port for charging and finally, the loudspeaker is pretty good for a budget device. 

HARDWARE

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 ships with the Helio P22 chipset, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. There is also a more expensive model with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.

The overall gaming performance is pretty good. Games like Asphalt Xtreme, Shadow Fight 3 run fine, with just a few skipped frames. If you plan to play games like Pubg, you should expect to see a bit of stutter and minor lag.

USER INTERFACE

My Redmi 6 runs on the MIUI 9.6 that is based on Android 8.1. Unfortunately, I have the Chinese model, meaning the phone comes with some bloatware apps and without Google Services. A good thing is that it takes just a few minutes to install Google Services and you can remove most of the apps.

If you have used a Xiaomi phone before, you will feel right at home. The device has plenty of features and customization options. Usually, the phone is quite fast but you may see a bit of stutter from time to time. I can’t really complain about that but more expensive Xiaomi phones like the Redmi Note 5 feel faster.

IMAGE QUALITY

The overall image quality is pretty good. You can definitely take some nice pictures with this phone. There is an auto-HDR mode which is great but I found some of the pictures to look a bit cartoonish. Portrait mode takes pretty nice looking pictures too with just minimal artifacts.

There is also a selfie portrait mode that takes nice pictures for social media. I think that portrait selfies look much better than the regular ones.

Night image quality, however, does not really impress.

1080p video could look better. I tested the camera with the EIS feature on and that led to a lot of noise and jello effect in the video.

1080p selfie video looks pretty good overall and the sound recording quality is decent.

CONNECTIVITY

Connectivity department is where the Xiaomi Redmi 6 is very good. Call quality and signal reception are great, it takes just a few seconds for the GPS to find the location and other connectivity options work fine.

There is plenty of sensors on-board but there is no gyroscope which is a shame.

BATTERY LIFE

Most of the Xiaomi phones are known for great battery life and the Redmi 6 is no exception.

My record screen-on time was 10 hours. However, if you use the phone more intensively, you should expect to get about 7 hours of SOT.

It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the phone with the supplied charger.

CONCLUSIONS

The Redmi 6 is yet another good budget phone by Xiaomi.

The only complaints I have is that the phone is made of plastic, so it feels a bit cheap in comparison to other budget Xiaomi phones that are made of metal.

Also, I wish the device used a 1080p display and the screen was brighter. In addition, there is no gyroscope sensor which is a shame to Xiaomi.  Other than that, you get a phone with good cameras, pretty good overall performance and solid battery life.

Overall, the Redmi 6 may not be the only budget option out there but it is definitely a solid cheap phone for the price, despite a few flaws.

According to a new report, Xiaomi and the famous online store Jingdong Mall made a new agreement regarding the latest affordable Xiaomi device: the new Xiaomi Redmi 6. The handset will be available for the first sale on June 15 in China, and it will be a JD exclusive. It is such an unusual strategy to sell an important device like the Redmi 6 on one third-party online store exclusively. According to the company, the Chinese price of the device in its base configuration with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage is 700 Yuan which roughly into $125 dollars. There will also be a variant with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM with a price of 999 Yuan (roughly $157).

But the exclusive variant of the handset which will be available on JD on June 15 will be the 3 + 32 GB configuration. It will launch at 10:00 AM local time, and if you are from China be fast if you want to get it as it may go quickly sold out. Xiaomi Redmi 6 sports a full metal unibody design and a 5.45-inch display showing images at an HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixel, with an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80.5% screen-to-body ratio. This year, the Chinese company chose to equip its affordable line-up with MediaTek chipsets.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 boasts an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 chipset which should provide a similar performance to the Snapdragon 625 by Qualcomm. Some will be left disappointed, but note that this chipset seems a lot better than the Snapdragon 435 present on the Redmi 5. It is composed of 8x Cortex A53 cores: 4 of them run at a max frequency of 2 GHz, while the other 4 run at 1.5 GHz. MediaTek Helio P22 is able to provide 27% better performance than Snapdragon 430 and 48% lower consumption compared with 28 nm processors. The device is also equipped with a 12 + 5 MP dual camera setup and a 5 MP front snapper with AI support.

Remember the promotional video released by Nokia back in January 2017 when the Nokia 6 was launched in China? In case you don’t remember, the video showed the Nokia 6 being used to crack a bag of walnut one after the other. Amazingly, the Nokia 6 display didn’t crack during the entire episode. Xiaomi seems to have adopted the same test to convince her fans that the Redmi 6 display screen is durable.

A short video clip showing the Redmi 6 being used to crack open three walnut seeds was shared by Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin. The test was done by Lin Bin himself and indeed the Redmi 6’s display screen came out of the short episode unscathed.

The Redmi 6 is a budget smartphone and according to the launch details, it features a5.45-inch IPS LCD display. There is no Gorilla Glass on top, neither does the device have a 2.5D glass screen. So, the survival of the screen could be pointing at a more durable display panel. Xiaomi’s phone screens don’t have a reputation for being durable. I own a Redmi 4 and a Redmi Note 4X. It only took a single fall in both cases for the screens to get cracked. There are several users with similar experiences. But then, these are relatively cheap models and we shouldn’t expect so much from them.

In this case, Xiaomi assures of the quality of the phone. It was revealed during the launch that the Redmi model passed a total of 14571 quality tests and is in the same quality standard as the Mi flagship series. Xiaomi has finally unveiled the affordable Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A and they didn’t disappointment after all. Recall that we had seen renders alleged to be those of the Redmi 6 Plus and the display had the notch design to the chagrin of “notch haters” who can’t bear to see another smartphone with such design. Thankfully, the Redmi 6 and 6A don’t have any cutout on their display and the notch-bearing Redmi 6 Plus wasn’t announced today. Here are some official pictures of the Redmi models showing the entire design.

The Redmi 6 and 6A are successors to the Redmi 5A and Redmi 5 but their designs are hardly similar. One star difference is that the Redmi 5 presented with a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio but the REdmi 6 comes with a smaller 5.45-inch display. The display isn’t really small but the 18:9 aspect ratio gives it a portable frame. Both models adopt dual camera setups at their rear with the Redmi 6 equally packing a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Redmi 6 also comes with a metal body while the 6A utilises plastic for its back panel. Both models shun the design where the speaker grills are placed at the bottom edge but instead, their own grills are located at the back.

The Redmi 6 comes with an AI dual camera comprised of a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth of field sensor. The dual camera offers stunning portrait shots and background blur. Xiaomi did share some camera samples captured using the Redmi 6 dual camera and the pictures are pretty impressive for a budget phone. Xiaomi is all set to launch its upcoming smartphone in its entry-level Redmi series. On June 12, at a launch event, the China-based company will be launching its sixth-generation Redmi smartphone — Xiaomi Redmi 6.

Today, Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin has shared a poster of the Redmi 6 smartphone which reveals the front side of the phone, giving us a look at the phone’s design and what to expect from it. However, the image is similar to the one that recently appeared on TENAA, which is said to be of Redmi 6A.

Contrary to the previous reports, the newly released poster of the Redmi 6 reveals that it will come with a full-screen display but without a notch on top, which almost every smartphone manufacturer is embracing nowadays. However, the display is surrounded by thick bezels from all sides.

The recent TENNA listing of a phone with same design revealed that the smartphone will have a 5.45-inch HD+ display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Further, the photo reveals that the smartphone will come with a single camera on the front side along with an LED flash for brighter selfies. The volume rocker and the power button are placed on the right side of the phone. We are expecting that the phone will have a fingerprint sensor placed on the back panel and the phone is also expected to come with Face Unlock feature.

The previously released poster related to the smartphone hinted that the Redmi 6 will come powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 processor. The chipset comes with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and the company claims that it is one of the first chipmakers to bring 12nm processors to the budget segment. The Helio P22 also comes with Mediatek’s Neuropilot tech which has support for TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe, and Caffe2. It can select the best available AI resource for developer efficiency.

The Redmi 6 is also expected to come with a dual camera setup on the back, stacked horizontally along with an LED flash on the top-left corner. The primary sensor in the dual camera setup is said to be of 12-megapixel. The phone will be running Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box, possibly with the latest MIUI 10 on top.
