Don’t be, as more details have surfaced and this time they include images of the main Zenfone 5 with its iPhone-X style notch in addition to more info on the Zenfone 5 Lite. The fresh details come courtesy of Roland Quandt and Evan Blass.

Zenfone 5

A few days ago, Roland Quandt revealed in a tweet that a number of phones released this will have a notch in its display including the Zenfone 5. To back up his claim, he has released renders of the Zenfone 5 from a manufacturer’s manual.

ASUS Zenfone 5

The Zenfone 5 (ZE620KL/X00QD) shares a lot in common with Apple’s iPhone X. The display has a similar-sized notch but houses just the camera lens, earpiece, and sensor.

Although it doesn’t have the iPhone X’s IR sensor for Face ID, we can be sure it will have its own face unlock technology. The lower bezel is shown to be slightly thicker but is no longer home to a fingerprint scanner.

On the rear, the ASUS Zenfone 5 continues its imitation of the iPhone X with the design of the dual rear cameras. The setup is slightly raised and houses just the two camera lens. The LED flash is outside and a few centimeters to its right is a fingerprint scanner.

The ASUS Zenfone 5 has a metal frame that lies between two sheets of glass. Volume rocker and power button are on the right, SIM tray is on the left, and the bottom is home to an audio jack, USB-C 2.0 port, microphone and speaker grille. At the top is a secondary microphone for noise cancellation.

Zenfone 5 Lite in black, white, and red

Zenfone 5 Lite (ZC600KL/X017DA)

We already saw an official render of the Zenfone 5 Lite yesterday thanks to Evan Blass. In addition to that is another official render (above) that shows the phone in two new colors, and a 2D render that reveals some angles not visible in the official renders.

ASUS Zenfone 5 Lite

The display has an 18:9 aspect ratio but with thicker bezels compared to the Zenfone 5. There are two cameras on opposite sides of the earpiece at the top which are said to both be 20MP sensors. There is also a LED flash and a LED notification lite at the far right corner.

The Zenfone 5 Lite also rocks dual rear cameras (16MP + 16MP) which sit in the middle of the device. One of the sensors is said to be a 120° lens for wide-angle shots. A LED flash flanks it on the left and a fingerprint scanner is below the camera setup which is shown to have a small bump.

ASUS has settled for a micro USB port for the Zenfone Lite and have put the audio jack at the top.

According to a Geekbench listing, the Zenfone 5 Lite will have a Snapdragon 660 processor and 4GB of RAM which puts it in the upper mid-range category. It will come in moonlight White, Midnight Black, and Rouge Red.

The ASUS Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite should launch at MWC 2018 along with a Zenfone 5 Max variant.

It includes Snapdragon 430 and 3 GB of RAM. Last year, ASUS had launched the ZenFone 4 with Snapdragon 630 whereas the Snapdragon 430 chipset were present inside ZenFone 4 Max and ZenFone 4 Selfie. Leaked information has revealed that the ZenFone 5 Max has a model number of X00QD. Hence, the X00PD phone could be ZenFone 5 Selfie as it features dual selfie snappers.

The company has announced that it will hold an event on 27th February and has started sending out media invites. It seems that Asus is gearing up to launch Zenfone 5 series at the event.

The Asus event will take place at 7.30pm CET and currently, there is no information available regarding the live streaming of the event. The company has announced that ASUS executives including Jerry Chen – CEO, Bryan Chang – GM of Mobile Business Division, and Marcel Campos – Global Marketing Head of Systems Business Group, will be present at the event.

While the company has not revealed what it plans to launch at the event, we expect the company to launch the Zenfone 5 series. The number “5” in the press invite suggests that the brand could unveil its ZenFone 5 series smartphones at the event.

According to the reports, the company could announce three devices at the event — the ZenFone 5 (2018), ZenFone 5 Lite and ZenFone 5 Max. In the invite, there’s also Qualcomm branding, suggesting that the devices will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Further, the invite also says #BACKTO5 along with a tagline “We Love Photo” — same as the ZenFone 4 series.

Recently, a new Asus smartphone with codename ASUS_X00QD was certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. The phone, which is believed to be the Zenfone 5 Max, runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system and has dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac support. Another phone with model ASUS ZC600KL has been certified in Russia, which is said to be the ZenFone 5 Lite.

Going by the current trend, we expect the upcoming Zenfone 5 series from Asus to come with a full-screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio as well as dual camera setup. The device could come pre-installed with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.

We expect more details related to this next-generation Zenfone series in the coming weeks. For the official confirmation, we’ll have to wait till the company takes the stage on 27th February at MWC 2018 in Barcelona.

During an interview with ASUS CEO Jerry Shen in September last year, he had confirmed that the ASUS ZenFone 5 series smartphones would be unveiled as early as March 2018. It appears that the company is prepping up on the launch of the ZenFone 5 smartphones as the ZenFone 5 Lite mid-range phone has been recently certified in Russia.

The certification of the smartphone has revealed that it has a model number of ZC600KL where “KL” confirms that it would be fueled by Snapdragon chipset and it carries support for LTE connectivity. The number “60” present in the model number suggests that it would be packed with a 6-inch display. There is no confirmation on whether it will be supporting an aspect ratio of 18:9.

It is unclear whether the Taiwanese tech company will be unveiling the ZenFone 5 lineup at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech exhibition in the next month. There is a possibility that the company may hold a dedicated launch event for unleashing the new ZenFone 5 series of smartphones. The rumor mill is expected to reveal more information on the forthcoming ASUS phones in the coming weeks.
