The number and prices of digital content platforms are increasing every day. Nowadays, many of us are spending a considerable amount of money on services such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Spotify, and YouTube Premium. Moreover, it seems that this expenditure will be even higher in the coming years. This is because analysts predict that Netflix will raise streaming plan prices in 2024. Here are the details…
Analysts Expect Netflix Prices to Rise Again in 2024
According to some analyst reports, Netflix prices are expected to increase once again in 2024. If you live in a country with high inflation, like I do, this content may seem quite normal to you. However, we are not talking about countries such as Turkey, Argentina, or Venezuela; we are directly referring to North America and Europe prices.
As you may know, Netflix raised its prices in 2023, primarily in the United States and other countries. Although this move drew some user backlash, the company did not experience any significant loss. However, there are now claims that these prices will once again see an increase.
“We expect to see rate increases [from Netflix] this year,” UBS analyst John Hodulik said, pointing to the potential for a 15% revenue growth in 2024. Last October, Netflix raised the Basic plan’s price from $9.99 to $11.99 per month in the United States, alongside similar hikes in the UK and France.
Unfortunately, a price increase in these countries will affect users worldwide. Despite having a considerable user base, the company is struggling to generate profits. Therefore, it has been aiming to change the situation with such moves for some time. For instance, the account sharing restriction implemented last year is one of these strategic moves.
It is important to note, however, that this is an analyst prediction. There is still no official announcement regarding a price hike for Netflix in the U.S. or any other country. Nevertheless, predicting the next move of a billion-dollar company is not as difficult as you might think.

While Google is slowly rolling out its Gemini AI on Pixel phones, two more brands are confirmed to integrate the LLM model into their smartphones later this year. They are BBK Electronics-owned OnePlus and OPPO. That’s not all. In fact, both of them announced that their phones will have the search giant’s most powerful model – the Gemini 1.0 Ultra instead of the Nano and Pro.
OnePlus and OPPO to integrate Google’s powerful Gemini Ultra into their devices
Recently, OnePlus and OPPO both introduced AI Eraser for their devices. It is similar to Google’s Magic Eraser which removes any unwanted elements from an image. The feature is powered by the company’s own AI model called AndesGPT.
At Google’s Cloud Next 2024 event, OnePlus and OPPO confirmed that their phones would get various features powered by Gemini AI like news summaries, audio summaries, and more. The Gemini 1.0 Ultra model will be arriving on compatible devices later this year. Both brands also hinted at an AI feature to generate social media content. They also plan to introduce AIGC experiences over the next few years to prioritise user needs and intuitive product design.
OnePlus and OPPO also state that they aim to be the first ones to launch features powered by the top-end Ultra platform on phones. For those unaware, Gemini Nano is the smallest AI model whereas the Pro is geared towards versatile usage. The Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series have a mix of both LLM models for features on the device. The Gemini Ultra is for more demanding tasks and can run off Google’s own servers.

Redmi finally launched the performance-focused mid-range, the Redmi Turbo 3 in China yesterday. In the launch conference, while comparing their new phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Honor 100 Pro the company accidentally mislabeled it as the “third generation Snapdragon 7”.
Redmi Turbo 3 launch conference
However, they quickly discovered their mistake, and the general manager of Redmi brand, Wang Teng apologized at the press conference for the mistake.
This type of incident isn’t happening for the first time though. According to ITHome, the recent Zhiji L6 press conference showed some similar event, where the official had to apologize to Xiaomi as they mentioned some incorrect information about the Xiaomi SU7.
It’s important to mention that there were various fake announcements pretending to be from Honor and urging Redmi official to apologize for their mistake. Honor’s product manager Wei Xiaolong informed that he was reached out by many people asking him to repeat the process. However, he only made a post on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging site) noting that it’s a very small matter and doesn’t require an apology.
Honor’s product manager Wei Xiaolong on the matter
He also emphasized healthy competition to promote the common progress and healthy development of the Chinese smartphone industry. He ends by saying “Everyone is welcome to compare and purchase”.
Speaking of the Redmi Turbo 3, it uses the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is practically a cut-down version of the 2023 flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It uses the same cores but with a slightly different cluster, reduced clock speeds, and smaller cache memories.
Aside from the chipset, the Redmi Turbo 3 houses a 6.67″ 1220 x 2712 resolution AMOLED with a peak brightness of 2400 nits. It comes with up to 16GB memory and 1TB storage, a 50MP 1/1.95″ main sensor, 8MP ultrawide and a 20MP selfie camera all within a package that is IP64 dust and water resistant. The 12GB + 512GB model is priced at around 2,299 Yuan (~$317).
Realme recently announced the launch of its upcoming P-series smartphones in India, the P1 and P1 Pro. The company has been promoting the P1 Pro as boasting the “Only Curved Display Under 20K” and the “First 120Hz AMOLED Display Under 15K” for the P1. However, these claims have sparked debate online, with some accusing Realme of misleading marketing.
The point of contention stems from Lava Mobile’s Blaze Curve 5G, launched in the first quarter of 2024. This phone also features a 120Hz curved AMOLED display priced at Rs. 17,999, placing it firmly within the sub-20K segment Realme is targeting.
While the P1 Pro’s display might offer additional features like Pro-XDR support and Rainwater Touch, Realme’s marketing emphasizes the “only” aspect, which seems debatable based on the Lava phone’s existence.
On the other hand, Realme’s claim of the “First 120Hz AMOLED Display Under 15K” for the P1 seems valid at this point. The only other device nearing the 15K threshold with a 120Hz AMOLED display is the POCO X6 Neo, priced at Rs. 15,999. Since full specs haven’t been revealed yet, this could change if the final price of the P1 lands above 15K.
It’s important for consumers to do their research before jumping on marketing claims. Checking reliable tech news sources and comparing specifications across different phones in the same price range is crucial for making informed purchase decisions.
Both the Realme P1 and P1 Pro are scheduled to launch in India on April 15th. With additional details likely to be revealed before the launch, it remains to be seen if Realme will address the marketing claims regarding the “only” curved display under 20k.
