Scheduled to begin at the end of January 2024, this tour will simultaneously unveil eight Cybertrucks. It’s a move by Tesla to boost brand awareness and showcase its unique electric pickup to a wider audience.

The distinctive design of the Cybertruck, with its stainless steel body and unconventional size, has raised questions about its legality on Chinese roads, a concern previously acknowledged by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Nevertheless, the tour serves as a strategic move to elevate the brand’s visibility and create a buzz around its groundbreaking electric vehicle.

The Cybertruck made its debut four years ago and saw its first deliveries on December 1, 2023, at the Austin Gigafactory in Texas, USA. With multiple variants on offer, including the rear-wheel-drive version starting at $60,990 (437,000 yuan), the all-wheel-drive model at $79,990 (~574,000 yuan), and the high-performance beast version priced at $99,999 (~717,000 yuan), Tesla aims to cater to diverse consumer preferences. Microsoft enhances code search capabilities in Visual Studio 2022 17.9 Preview 3

Microsoft has unveiled the Visual Studio 2022 17.9 Preview 3, bringing significant enhancements to the platform’s built-in code search capabilities. The update allows users to perform comprehensive searches within Visual Studio, including scouring local variable names, comments, parameter names, and various string types.

Users can now enjoy advanced search functionalities and improved plain text views

To leverage the improvements, users can utilize familiar shortcuts such as “Find in Files” (Ctrl + Shift + F) and Quick Find (Ctrl + F), offering a more streamlined and efficient coding experience.

One of the key features highlighted in the release is the upgrade to the original default code search function (Ctrl + T or Ctrl + ,). Microsoft has implemented “accurate text matching,” enabling users to obtain search results for items like comments and local variables, which were not included in the previous version. This enhancement aims to boost productivity by providing more accurate and relevant search outcomes for developers navigating extensive codebases.

In addition to the revamped code search capabilities, Microsoft introduced improvements to the plain text view. Users can now access functions such as “Match Case,” “Match Whole Word,” and “Use Regular Expressions” through buttons located on the far right of the search bar.

The enhanced plain text view allows users to apply filters, narrowing down results to only text-related outcomes. This flexibility empowers developers to tailor their searches based on specific criteria, improving the precision of search results.

The press release notes that the upgraded code search functionality has undergone testing since Visual Studio 2022 17.9 Preview 2 and is now fully available in Preview 3. However, Microsoft advises that certain features “may not be defaulted in the preview channel.” Users who do not immediately observe these changes should manually enable the preview function in the settings to fully experience the advanced code search capabilities offered in Visual Studio 2022 17.9 Preview 3.

E-Bike

High Demand for Apple Vision Pro Leads to Sky-High Prices in China’s Grey Market

As Apple gears up for the global launch of its much-anticipated Vision Pro mixed reality headsets, an interesting trend is unfolding in China. Tech enthusiasts, eager to get their hands on this latest gadget, are facing a unique challenge – the emergence of a grey market where prices are soaring.

Customers are willing to pay more than double the original price of the headset

In China, the Vision Pro has sparked a frenzy among buyers, with resellers seizing this opportunity to double the asking price. According to reports, eager customers are ready to shell out twice the official rate to secure this high-tech device. The original price range of $3,499 to $3,899, depending on the model, has been dwarfed by the grey market rates.

Apple Vision Pro

This trend is not entirely new. The practice, known as Daigou, involves agents traveling overseas to purchase luxury items, which are then sold back home at marked-up prices. While the pandemic had put a damper on this market, the easing of travel restrictions has seen a resurgence. With Apple’s new product launch, Daigou sellers are back in action, promising deliveries from the U.S. to China.

The Vision Pro is expected to make waves in the mixed reality sector, a domain where companies like Meta and Pico have previously ventured with limited success. Apple’s entry is seen as a game-changer, potentially revitalizing the market. Industry experts believe that this could be the turning point for VR/AR technologies, projecting a significant growth in headset shipments this year.

However, the industry has its challenges. For instance, Pico, a major VR brand, recently scaled back operations due to lower-than-expected sales. But with Apple stepping into the arena, the dynamics might just shift in favor of augmented and virtual reality technologies.

For Apple, this venture is more than just adding another product to its lineup; it’s about diversifying revenue streams. With the iPhone being a major revenue generator, the Vision Pro offers a new avenue, especially in tech-hungry markets like China.

Riot Games Cuts Workforce by 11% to Refocus Amid Market Challenges

Riot Games, the powerhouse behind the cult favorite “League of Legends,” has announced significant staff layoffs. This decision, affecting approximately 11% of its global workforce, translates to around 530 employees facing an uncertain future. This news comes as a shockwave in the gaming community, casting a spotlight on the challenges even successful digital game publishers face in today’s economic climate.

11 percent translates to roughly 530 employees from the organization

Riot Games, a subsidiary of Tencent Holdings, has been a prominent player in the online gaming arena. However, the company is now grappling with the harsh realities of a stagnant market. High inflation rates and a trend among players to limit their spending on new titles or stick with a few favorites have hit the industry hard. Riot isn’t alone in this struggle; last year, Electronic Arts trimmed its workforce by 6% and scaled back on office space, signaling a broader trend of belt-tightening across the sector.

Riot Games

CEO Dylan Jadeja’s letter to employees revealed a critical introspection within Riot. He acknowledged the company’s loss of focus and the unsustainable growth in costs. This admission is a rare glimpse into the internal workings of a major gaming company, one that is often perceived as invincible by its fan base.

The restructuring is not just about cutbacks. Riot aims to sharpen its focus on its most successful titles: “League of Legends,” “Valorant,” “Teamfight Tactics,” and “Wild Rift.” However, it’s the cessation of new game development under “Riot Forge” and the scaling back of certain features and staff in “Legends of Runeterra” that underscores the depth of this strategic shift.

Riot’s pivot comes amidst Tencent’s broader involvement in the gaming industry, including stakes in other U.S. gaming giants like Epic Games. This reshuffling at Riot Games might be a harbinger of changes we could see across the industry as companies strive to adapt to the evolving gaming landscape and economic pressures.

Meizu 21 Pro bags 3C certification, Q1 2024 launch expected

Normally, Meizu releases its flagship phones in pairs, offering both a standard model and a Pro variant. This pattern held true in the previous year with the launch of the Meizu 20 series in March, which included the Meizu 20 and the Meizu 20 Pro. However, Meizu deviated from its usual dual-release strategy in December 2023 by introducing only the Meizu 21. The absence of a Pro model fueled speculation that the company might be abandoning the Pro line altogether. But recent developments suggest that the Meizu 21 Pro could be just around the corner, potentially arriving within a few weeks.

Last month, two Meizu devices bearing model numbers, such as M481Q and M481S, were approved by China’s MIIT certification platform. It is speculated that both model numbers are associated with the Meizu 21 Pro. The same models have now emerged in the database of the country’s 3C certification.

The 3C certification of the alleged Meizu 21 Pro reveals that it may ship with an 80W fast charger. The power brick (UP2040) mentioned in the certification suggests similar fast-charging capabilities to the Meizu 21, making the Meizu 21 Pro likely to support 80W wired charging. Being a Pro model, it may also arrive with support for 50W wireless charging.

The rumor mill is yet to reveal concrete details about the Meizu 21 Pro. However, the device will likely be equipped with a larger display than the Meizu 21, which is equipped with a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen. The Pro variant’s display may support a 2K resolution. Like the standard model, the Pro variant is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

A recent report revealed that the Meizu 21 Pro may house a 5,020mAh battery, which will be larger than the Meizu 21’s 4,800mAh battery. In addition, the Pro variant’s rear camera module may include a telephoto or a periscope telephoto camera.
